Good, but not great. The way that I got excited to see that Mannix didn't die and planned to continue his mission to stop the Chrononauts. Only to lmao at Mannix immediately being squashed by a T-Rex that gives us a very Steve Urkel like "Did I do that?" look. Does it advance the plot in a meaningful or satisfying way? No, but I loved it. Unexpected and funny so it got me back into the series very quickly.
Danny again surprises me by being the responsible one to recognize what a gawdawful mess they had made and committing to fixing it. Corbin, though, still wants to stay in his place put of time because the life he left behind in the "present" wasn't perfect. This guy's the genius of the group??? Thankfully, Danny has the common sense to put Corbin on course to right his wrongs with his dad and wife so that they'll be there when he gets back. I really would have preferred to see how Danny fixes the timelines, but we instead get a series of panels showing Corbin fixing his life before the Chrononauts reunite in 1492 to complete their original mission with none the wiser to their poor behavior in their time on mission.
I dove into this series after reading the Big Game mini-series event in 2023. I see why Dr. Reilly seemed the more popular character from the Chrononauts when this series was tied into the rest of Millarverse for the event. I can also see why this series and its sequel completely escaped my notice when they came out. I'd give this whole mini-series a 3.75 star rating. Fun and fast with highs and lows that entertain like a blockbuster movie.
Wait, what? I thought the story was building up. It just ended. But Millar has a tendency to provide us abrupt endings. I can understand why this will make a damn good movie if treated well. Let's see what happens. The scope for a big blockbuster is legit. There are time anomalies and there are wars. So pretty good deal.
