Natsuki Takaya (¸ßÎÝ ÄÎÔ Takaya Natsuki, real name Naka Hatake) is the penname of a Japanese manga artist best-known for creating the series Fruits Basket. She was born on July 7, 1973; (Tanabata). Takaya is left-handed and once revealed that she wanted to be a mangaka since first grade, when her sister started drawing.
She was born in Shizuoka, Japan, but was raised in Tokyo, where she made her debut in 1992. She enjoys video games such as the Final Fantasy series or Sakura Wars, or working on her different manga series, such as Fruits Basket, which is the second best-selling sh¨jo manga ever in Japan, and the top selling sh¨jo manga in North America. Fruits Basket has also been adapted into a twenty-six-episode anime series.
In 2001, Takaya received a Kodansha Manga Award for sh¨jo manga for Fruits Basket.
According to Takaya (in a sidebar of a Fruits Basket manga volume), she enjoys drawing girls (girly ones) more than she does boys. Takaya also enjoys electronics and music, but dislikes talking about herself. Also revealed in a sidebar of Fruits Basket, Takaya broke her drawing arm (left) after Fruits Basket volume six was published. She had to go into surgery, and as a result, had put Fruits Basket on a brief hiatus. Takaya made a full recovery, but complains that her handwriting had gotten uglier, due to the surgery. During her hospital stay, she gained an interest in baseball.
Another backstory of one of my favorite characters, more sweet Kyo and Tohru moments, and plenty of Shigure scheming (TBD if good or bad LOL). Good volume!
I can't say enough about how much I love this manga. Every volume has it's unique and beautiful story to it and I loved this one so much. It was packed filled with emotional and fun moments. I loved that this volume, Hanajima's backstory is given and it makes me so happy to read as she suffers but she eventually finds happiness in her friends and her family supports her so much. The first half oft this gives some backstory and more background on other characters and their past so there is a better understanding of how they are and the second half of this volume though takes place at another Sohma vacation house where everyone is together and enjoying themselves. I love reading these volumes because you can see the characters start to open up and change and trust and love each other. Particularly Kyo who has changed so much from the first volume alone and who I am growing to love more and more as you can see how much he has changed since Tohru has come into his life. Tohru is so good for all of the Sohma and I adored this volume because it was pack full of fun and hilarious moments and touching moments and I loved every moment of reading it!
Akito! Why are you always bringing everyone down? No, really, why? I would like to learn more about the curse at some point. Sooner rather than later. And what's Shigure's plan? I'm ready for some answers, but I'm not even half way through the series yet.
Also, I forgot about Kureno as like a human being. Like I forgot he existed at all. When he showed up, he seemed VAGUELY familiar, but I forgot so much omg.
We also get Hanajima's background in this one!
TW: emotional and physical abuse, violence, gaslighting, manipulation, bullying, alienation
I feel so so bad for the family and having to deal with Akita. He¡¯s so manipulative and also why does the ( I forgot their names so I¡¯m going to go by their zodiac animals) dog and seahorse guy seem to be up to something as well with Akita ahhh so many wonders

3 stars ??:*?:?? idk what to say. This one kinda just felt like a bit of filler. Not that much happened. It didn¡¯t make me squeal as much as the other ones. Hoping the next one will be better. I just really love these characters.
Vol. 9 - Tohro¡¯s best friend Uo-Chan meets a charming and mysterious man while we learn about her other best friend Hana-Chan¡¯s troubled past when she developed her psychic powers before meeting her best friends. Later, Tohru and Kyo visit his karate master¡¯s home and two shocking surprises come before the volume¡¯s end.
Vol. 10 - Tohru and the Sohma boys have a nice summer vacation at a summer house and soon enough a few other members of the Sohma clan join in. During that, Shigure interferes in Hatori¡¯s romantic issues and emotional baggage comes in for Yuki during a visit with Akito.
Here the story oscillates between uninteresting and messy. Way too much unnecessary character development, making hard to follow the main plot. Yet, Yuki¡¯s development still is the most consistently compelling arc of Fruits Basket.
4.5 ? initially was feeling like a filler book and really sucks we didn¡¯t get more transformations cuz thats been lacking recently. however it was a good look into character insight development for almost everyone in the book, even characters you wouldn¡¯t expect. we also see the abusive side of akito in action of the plot aside from narration, which i¡¯m curious to see how it¡¯ll be handled cuz that man has some audacity to be acting the way he does regardless of who he is. "back before...when i'd walk home alone, i'd look up...at the setting sun. it seemed so lonely. it's strange...somewhere along the line...it began to look warm and friendly...when my long shadow was no longer alone" - hanajima
This volume increases the impression that there are a few too many characters in this story, or that there are too many that the author is trying to create tragic backstories for. Read in quick succession, the situations get somewhat repetitive, so it's probably time to take a few weeks' break before I read the next one.
Author Takaya's recovery from hand surgery is reflected in stiff art at the beginning of this volume, but she's back in good form a few chapters later, and there are quite a few strikingly beautiful panels before the end. Takaya's career is still ongoing, fifteen years later. The human body and mind are amazing!
Reread July 2020 There are definitely a lot of tense moments in this volume. A lot more of wicked, nasty, ass-hat of Akita (if you aren¡¯t guessing my vibes... I hate the guy with a strong passion). There were so many emotional moments that squeezed at your heart and the hilarious moments that made you pee your pants.
What I love most about this novel is you start to get a feeling for Shigure¡¯s plan.
There is one thing that I don¡¯t like: I feel like these middle books are just filler books and the author definitely shows it. The writing has become super slow, the dialogue has take forever to get to the point
Eterno amor a Kazuma (!).
