Every Move I Have Made

Rate this book
A romantic, suspense-filled novel about how falling in love can change everything...

When the phone rings in the middle of the night, Hayley knows it is not good news, and she's right: her boyfriend, Jesse, is missing, and she might have been the last one to see him.

17-year-old Hayley has never had a real boyfriend before, one who phones you just to hear the sound of your voice, one who buys you a gift just to see you smile. So when the hottest boy in school turns his attentions to her, Hayley finds herself having to reconsider her plan, a plan to get her out of her home - where every day darkness threatens below the surface - and away from her life. Will her romance with Jesse help her escape, or can danger can be found everywhere, not only at home, and even within the boy you love? Soon, Hayley needs to make a decision on just how far she will go to ensure that nobody stands in her way.

Hey, I'm Philippa Cameron, the author of three Young Adult books. I love reading Young Adult novels. And books from other genres too. Any of them. All of them. Good thing, then, that I'm also a librarian...

My website contains all my book news, while focuses on my work as a librarian.

I'm the author of three YA contemporary novels, The Day We Are Born, Every Move I Have Made, and However Dark The Night.

In my previous life I was a university lecturer, corrupting young minds in an English and Media Studies Department, as well as a journalist, editor and feature writer. I occasionally write humorous newspaper columns. At least, I think they're funny. So does my brother's mother-in-law.

Last bit about me...
In my current life, I have husband who's a geek in denial, two young daughters who have inherited both their parents' love of reading, and two Guinea pigs that appeared in our home while I was away at a conference whose existence I don't acknowledge to my family. The Guinea pigs' existence. Not the conference's. Update: One of the Guineas has gone to Guinea heaven. It wasn't me, I swear.

Any questions? Give me a shout at [email protected].

Slow to start, but building up to a delicious tension. Loved the characters and dialogue. My first book of the summer - I have set the bar high!

Every Move I have Made is a suspense-filled, roller coaster of a story that will keep readers on the edge of their seats until The. Very. Last. Sentence. Cameron’s prose flows smoothly, the dialogue is witty and humorous (particularly when it comes to Hayley and her friends), and the characters are well-developed. Fans of suspense and mystery will be thoroughly entertained, as will the YA audience with Cameron's authentic teen characters and a story line that will engage teen readers.

I read 's first book last year - - and it was wonderful, and I'm always a bit nervous when an author puts their next book out - what if it isn't as good? But I'm pleased to say Every Move I have Made was not only good, but I think even better than the first one - possibly because it wasn't as heartwrenching, although this book could still break your heart, just like The Day We Are Born broke mine.

Hayley is doing her best to pull herself out of the life she has been born into - she'll do anything so that she won't be like her wretched parents and have to live in their dark, violent home - and she has a plan. And all is going ahead as planned, until Jesse, the school hottie, turns his attention to her. Suddenly, her days seem lighter and brighter as Jesse's family embraces her into its fold - but still, she holds onto her plan, especially when everything is not as it seems, and her world starts to fade into darkness again...

This book is taut and tightly written, and before you know it, you're completely wrapped up in Hayley's world, up until the last, frightening chapter.

Yeah, so I just binge-read Philippa Cameron. Read this one first. Loved it. So read this one next. Loved it. Then found out there was a novella sequel , so read that one too. Loved it. Then found out her next book is only out in 2017. Did not love that.

This author somehow manages to capture perfect preppy teen dialogue with deep and dark imagery. I read a bit on her bio - she's calling her books part of the Elements series. They are stand-alone books (well, not the novella, obvs) and she focuses on one of the elements in each book, and her descriptions are delicious and dark. Bring on 2017...

So I was having a bad week and my mother was like:
description

So I did, and this book was on my TBR pile next to my bed. And I read it in one go while eating a tub of ice cream, and I felt much better afterwards, partly because of the ice cream and partly because I realized what an awesome life I have in comparison with poor old Hayley in the book! At first, I thought I was a bit mad to be reading something that was in turns happy and sad, but then I got into the pace of it, and I raced through it because I knew something was going to happen and... you'll have to read it to find out!

I'm off to buy another book of 's for my next emergency...

Hayley is the main character in this thought-provoking story that reminds us we don’t always know what goes on behind closed doors.
Day-to-day, she goes to school, works hard, hangs out with her two best friends, but she has a long-term plan to escape from her other life at home, one that is dark and always on edge. Everything is going according to plan, until Jesse, the most popular boy in school, starts paying attention to her, and draws her into his world and into his picture-perfect family. But the darkness follows her into this world, and before long, she realizes she could be trapped - and has to decide how far she’s willing to go to make sure her dreams are not crushed..

There are clues through-out the novel that things aren’t quite right, but the tension builds nice and slowly, and a few red herrings are tossed out until all the puzzle pieces come together at the end. A quick and enjoyable read for teens - and you can hand it on to your parents when you’re finished.

17-year-old Hayley is desperate to escape from her life - from the outside, things don't look too bad - she has two caring best friends, and now the most popular boy in school keeps hanging around her, but inside her home, there is an ominous feeling that any minute now, something bad is going to happen... When something bad does happen, however, it's not what you are expecting, and so the whole book is filled with this tension. Interspersed with this are many funny moments - the dialogue between Hayley and her friends is hilarious! - and you can't help but feel for Hayley as you learn more about her, and her motives, and the things that make her a flawed and therefore a genuine character. I absolutely loved this book and the issues it raises - as well as its building pace and heart-thumping ending!

I had read Philippa Cameron's previous book, The Day We Are Born, and loved it, so this was an easy sell for me! And I wasn't disappointed. Very different to her first novel, Every Move I Have Made still contains her great dialogue and tight descriptions. I would describe this book as a romantic thriller - I'm not giving anything away when I say that the romantic hero, Jesse, goes missing on the first page of the book, as it's even described it the blurb, and then the rest of the book follows the protagonist, Hayley, as a search is started for Jesse, and she reflects on their relationship. There's a build-up of tension as a clues and hints are dropped in, but it's not until the denouement that all is revealed. Nerve-tingling!

Hayley is an unhappy 17-year-old, whose wrong-side-of-the-tracks existence is temporarily lifted when she gets to hang out with her two affluent best friends. But she is working hard to make this permanent - to lift herself out of the dark cloud of violence that hangs over her home. There's a light at the end of the tunnel when she's offered a part-time job and when the most popular boy in school, Jesse, seems interested in her - she doesn't want to tempt fate, but it looks like her dreams are coming true.

Then Jesse goes missing.

There's a slow but steady build-up of tension in the novel, which comes to a head at the end. It was one of those stories that when it does end, you can't believe that it's over... You'll read this in one sitting, because you won't be able to put it down...

This is Philippa Cameron's second book, and while I enjoyed her first book on teenage depression, this one adds an element of mystery and tension to the storyline, which gets a double thumbs up from me. Protagonist Hayley takes us step-by-step through her young romance with Jesse, while police are searching for him after he goes missing. Hayley has a maturity to her that comes from living in a potentially abusive household, but has no intention of remaining there - she has planned and worked hard for way out, but Jesse's disappearance could put paid to that. The reader had to put two plus two together to work out exactly what has happened and, as the tagline says, figure out just how far Hayley will go to avoid going back...

Hayley has it all - two awesome best friends, the most popular boy in school as her boyfriend, and even a part-time job that is the first step in her future career - and her escape route from her tension-filled home. But she comes to learn that her home-life is not her only danger and not the only thing she has to escape from. When boyfriend Jesse goes missing, her world starts to unravel

I love the relationship between Hayley and her friends - always nice to see some girl power. The tension between Hayley’s two worlds - her home life and the rest of her life - strings you along, and as they become closer, the book becomes taut until the release at the very end.

Fast-paced, edge-of-your-seat ride through a few months of 17-year-old Hayley's life, which would be completely dark if not for her two best friends, and the attentions of the most popular boy in school. The book starts with the revelation that said popular boy, Jesse, has gone missing, and then alternates between the search for Jesse now and how Hayley met Jesse then. The tension builds slowly and achingly as the truth - or is it? - is revealed.

Pitched as a Young Adult contemporary novel, this is also a great cross-over for adults.

Me halfway through this book...

I got into Every Move I Have Made fairly quickly, but, boy, was I speed-reading near the end -I just HAD to find out what was going to happen!

Super-sexy Jesse goes missing, and our hero Hayley takes us back to when they first met as the search for him continues, and the past and present catch up to each other in a sudden ending that makes you miss a heart-beat.

I have been waiting for the next novel to come out, and in the beginning I was a bit worried because it was SO different to and then I realized that the thing I had liked the best about the first book - the imagery and description - was also so beautiful in this book too, and even though the storyline was different, I got into it and loved it. And I'm going to say that when I had finished it, I might actually have enjoyed it even more than the first one!

Apart from really being able to relate to Hayley (sometimes I feel my life is just like hers...), I loved her and her friends and her boyfriend. I got the same feeling, though, that I did when reading We Were Liars - something was off with Hayley. Something was not quite right. I wasn't trying to guess ahead, though, and just lost myself in this awesome book, and shivered at the end as all my dreams were shattered. I guess what I'm trying to say is - just read it! You'll love it!

So I was like this by the end of the book... It's not that it's a big thriller - it just builds up and builds up, and then it ends, and I'm like, "Wha-a-a-t?" I liked it. I liked it a lot.

I'm a big mystery fan but I'm only 14 and often end up reading adult mystery books. So it was really nice to find a teen mystery book that wasn't full of guts and gore and it was more psychological and unraveling what really happened that night at the quarry. I really enjoyed this book and the writing, and would definitely recommend it to other teenagers.

Within the first few pages of this novel, I thought I knew where it was going...but I didn't! So it changed from just another teen romance to something much deeper and darker and thrilling. I gobbled it up!!

Keep reading for the last sentence. Interesting story. Very difficult to keep a book suspenseful until the last sentence but this book does it. This book is written 'then' and 'now'. Some of the 'then' seemed a bit slow but the 'now' made up for it and kept me reading until the end.
