The American Civil War divided North and South and became the most destructive conflict fought in North America. On one side was the Union and on the other the Confederacy, divided over the future of slavery. Meet the North president Abraham Lincoln and the South, Jefferson Davis. Witness keys events like the draft riots and the Battle of Gettysburg. Simple History, telling the story without information overload.
After graduating in history at University College London, I missed writing about history whether it was Tokugawa Japan or the American revolution. As a graphic designer and writer I wanted to combine history with a fun graphical style. Now I present a gift to children who have a curiosity about the world around them and its rich past, in the form of my series 'Simple History'.
It does cover the main points of what led to the civil war and how it ended. I can't say I disagree with Lincoln's goals as I find them admirable. However there was great loss of life as there is in any war. Although the numbers don't seem to reveal how many slave lives were lost as I think they should be counted as well. At least the end result was that slavery was abolished officially although as we all know it took several years before the last remnants were done away with.
