Came across her Brides of Chance Creek series and am loving that one, so decided to give her Cowboys of Chance Creek series a go.
My conclusion: It's free so I'd still go ahead and say give it a try, but I am disappointed with this series so far. More so because I love her newest series so much.
The first story I'd give a 3.5 star rating. Started off with me hating the heroine but I did come to like her as the story progressed. Wasn't a bad story at all, but I think it'd have been an easy 4 star rating had it been longer and the story to have more "filling." I wouldn't say this was rushed, just fast paced. The author was able to bring the story together pretty well but it felt minimal. Really would have been so much better had things been allowed to develop further.
The second story was a shaky 3.8 star rating. There was just too much deception/obstacles that kept popping up that it felt more like things were bipolar versus a roller coaster ride. And this story, I'm going to say was rushed and too many things jam packed in. But, despite all this, I still somehow came to enjoy the story.
And speaking of emotional issues.....the 3rd story was irritating and what really has me not wanting to continue the series. (Whether I do is still up in the air). This gets a 2 star rating. The only reason it's not a 1 is because the quality of writing was still somewhat there and I do appreciate the storyline attempt. It had potential. Unfortunately, Claire was just too....much. Way too much.
Still think the author is extremely talented, but this series might just be a miss for me.
THE COWBOY INHERITS A BRIDE: 4 Stars Great fun! Loved the story. Didn’t need the steamy bits to make it thoroughly enjoyable. THE COWBOY’S E-MAIL ORDER BRIDE 4 stars Great story. Truly did not need the explicit sex scenes. Would have been 5 stars without them. Good plot, good characters, great dialogue. THE COWBOY WINS A BRIDE 4 Stars Claire’s a total mess - unable to see the love all around her. Jamie, the infamous womanizer, finally stakes a claim to the only woman he’s ever really wanted, but she can’t believe he’s serious. Great story with romance, silliness, fearsome action, and lots of surprises. Rated R.
I’m very sorry to give a negative review, but I’d rather give my honest opinion than hedge the truth. Ms. Seton’s writing is technically very well done; grammar, spelling and punctuation are not lacking (and therefore distracting). My negative feedback is regarding the characters and dialogue portrayed in her stories - basically, I didn’t like any of the characters at all. The women are weak, ridiculously display a lack of common sense or intellect, and are all pushovers. The men, whether they’re described as “smart or “intellectual, act, think and speak like they’re still in high school; they are bullies acting with very little restraint and a lot of childish behaviors. These characters remind me of the bodice-rippers I read back in the seventies, but please...we no longer want to be coerced into a kiss, hug or assignation by force or threat - that’s just not sexy or romantic at all. If you want a good Hero type, think Rhett Butler or Jamie Fraser, whose desires seem to be prompted by passion, sensitivity and love versus their uncontrolled juvenile lust, but please stop writing men as boors and bullies.
I do love a good cowboy romance. Testosterone filling every page and the women swooning at their boots. ÌýThis collection did not disappoint. ÌýThe first book is really only a novella but introduces the main characters for the rest of the series. ÌýI was a little disappointed that Cole and Sunshine did not appear in the next two books but after looking into this I found that their story was actually published two years after book 1 and they will return with a continuation of their story in book 9.
These are definite feel good, HEA stories that have their ups and downs but ultimately the cowboy will get his bride. ÌýEach story focuses on a different main character who, whether they know it or not, will tread a rocky path in the name of true love.
Wide open ranch land, good friends, and plenty of horses. A very enjoyable read. I will be continuing this series at a later time.
The Cowboy Inherits a Bride Book 0.5 Sunshine is looking forward to a new beginning after losing just about everything to her ex. The inheritance of a restaurant with an apartment from her Aunt Cecily is a godsend. That is until she finds out there are a few underlying provisions to be met.
Cole wasn't happy with the provisions either, he had been led to believe that he would inherit this building from Cecily so he would be able to carry on like his father had.
To say the provisions were a bit over the top is an understatement, since not only do they have to share the business space, the small one bedroom apartment and show a profit for their respective businesses. Four months and no more than one night spent away or they lose everything to the other.
Their first night Sunshine has to admit she can't move his stuff out of the bedroom and would have to stay on the couch. If that wasn't enough her ex calls her to yell something about keys.
Now a vegan restaurant sharing the space with a firing range isn't something you see in small town Montana. Sunshine has her work cut out for her and Cole isn't going to make it easy on her.
I loved the way this relationship grows from animosity, to friendship, to love. That journey is filled with so much emotion on both sides, with others seeking to possibly date Sunshine.
This is so much more than a simmer to sizzle relationship and the resolution of Cecily's will is such a surprise. I can't wait to read the next book in this series.
The Cowboy's E-Mail Order Bride Book 1 What was a practical joke has gone way out of control. A video of a drunk Ethan describing his perfect wife is put out on the web by his friends. They picked a woman and now she's arrived. Ethan plans to have her right back out on the next flight, that is until he sees her.
Autumn with the help of her best friend put together the response to Ethan's video. For her this is a last ditch effort to keep her job at CityPretty, the article that would come from this would be priceless. Then she starts to realize Ethan really is everything she's ever wanted in a man. No matter what her mother and sister's philosophy on the subject is.
The one thing Autumn didn't expect was to start loving this place and the man who runs it.
A visit from Ethan's sister puts some interesting facts on the line and new decisions to make.
Plenty of ups and downs, and more interesting facts about Lacey as this tale unfolds.
Filled with Love, Laughter, Tears, Solutions and so much more, I can't wait to read the next book in this series!
The Cowboy Wins A Bride Book 2 I love Chance Creek and I'm pretty sure I haven't been reading the different series in order. I am however trying to catch up on all the books before either a new series starts or another book gets added. I've only read the books in the bundle for this series although I own them all. So now I'm going to catch up.
It's Ethan and Autumn's Wedding day, and once again Rob has pulled a prank, this time on Claire. Little did he know that Jamie already had plans, just not for today. Although when Jamie finds out Claire's plans for the money she received from the buy out of her share of the ranch those plans change radically.
There's a bit more to the bet that's made and quite a few conditions Claire puts on it.
Fate has plans too, and Claire's ex shows up with his wife and takes over 'his' business, firing her in the process. Now she needs to design the perfect home for Carl Whitfield. It's a huge contract and will garner the attention Claire needs to start her design business. Oh and a letter found explains their mother's absences from the ranch, what an interest twist.
All this while living and working with Jamie on the guest ranch. Her conditions aren't easy ones, first he can't touch and he can't flirt with any of the women guests at the ranch.
I'm starting the next book now, I love these Cowboys!
Was pleasantly surprised at how interesting all three stories were. I also appreciated the fact that although there were some sex scenes, they were not overdone, which made for pleasant reading as we all know how to do it and do not require abundant tutorials. But, each had an interesting story to tell and it was told beautifully. Were it not for the third book, I would have given 5 stars, but it annoys me when sufficient research is not done and erroneous information is given to readers who might classify it as truth. Point given: Should you be in a position to sell your interest in a piece of property, you would be entitled, monetarily, to whatever percentage you own of its market value LESS the same percentage of liens and encumbrances on the property. Therefore, seeing as the property in question was on the verge of being foreclosed, etc., there is no way that Claire would be entitled to receive $600.000 for her interest in the property. But, even putting that aside, I disliked Claire when she appeared in the second book. That dislike turned to hatred during the course of the third book. She is a mean, self-centered, self-absorbed, rude, crude, miserable excuse for a human being who lacks any semblance of empathy or sympathy for anyone but herself. She carries on while Morgan is the one who got the short end of the stick. Claire got to have her mother when she was a baby and toddler, while Morgan got her grandparents; Claire got to live her childhood on a beautiful ranch that offered much, while Morgan received none of those goodies and, finally, Claire got to inherit a percentage of a 1.2 million dollar ranch while Morgan got bupkis. And, although Morgan was the first child, Claire treated her as though she was the interloper, when it was the two that came after her that were the interlopers. But according to Claire, the world was all about her and no one else. Basically, this girl is mentally unstable and was in need of mental help. Now, you can say, well she got it together and turned around at the end, but, does a leopard really change it spots? If this was real life instead of a book, I would say "Jaime, run". Or at the very least, arrange for some mental help for Claire before committing himself to heaven only knows what in the future. It was one of the times in my reading that a character in a book aggravated so much that I found myself literally hollering out loud at that person and reprimanding myself for getting too involved with the characters in the book. But, then again, that is part of really enjoying a book and delving into it as opposed to merely reading words. And I do look forward to reading more by this author and highly recommend her work.
The Cowboy Inherits a Bride-4 stars-when Cole, rifle range owner, and Sunshine, vegan restaurant opener, vie for the same building, things get hot and messy, in more ways than one. As per Cecily’s will, they’ll fight for the building, while coexisting at work and at home, for 4 months. Cole can’t even let anyone else help Sunshine, and she keeps coming up with ways to build up his business. Lots of laughs, very funny premise, and great friends that support them both. Excellent couple.
The Cowboy’s Email Order Bride-4 stars-Ethan’s friends post a video of him when he’s drunk online, asking for what he wants in a woman. He thinks it’s all a big joke when Autumn comes in from New York to marry him. Autumn is writing an undercover news story for the women’s magazine she works for, answering Ethan’s ad to show him as a bumbling cowboy. Neither get what they bargained for when they find out they want the same things and fall in love. But, each secret must surface and be dealt with, from their lies to their finances and families. Great read, very abrupt ending, part of why I don’t enjoy novellas.
The Cowboy Wins a Bride-4 stars-Jamie loves Claire. Jamie has always loved Claire. But the timing has never been right, and now she might travel with her money from being bought out out of the family ranch. But, so much more is going on. Claire has been left and had all her money stolen by Daniel, her former boss and boyfriend, and he returns, takes his business back, and fires her. She then becomes obsessed with trying to figure out how to best him, then how to deal with all that’s surfacing about her dead mother, the new guest ranch they’re running, and of course, there’s Jamie’s fake proposal, or is it fake? I like Jamie, Claire worries me. She’s too overwhelmed, and nothing much comes out until the end, which still doesn’t seem like quite enough. There’s fun with the guests, a bunch of young women, and help from the boys next door. Didn’t much like the dead mom, or Claire’s way of managing things until she finally sees the light.
Great introduction to the original Chance Creek series
3 stories set in Chance Creek introduce us to the place. It starts with a girl who inherits a restaurant, she thinks. But it comes with some strings, and one string is the tall, handsome cowboy that owns the indoor firing range in the other half of her restaurant! Who will win this battle? The second story starts with Ethan at the airport to pick up the e-mail bride his buddies have arranged as a gag. Except Autumn, the bride, is planning on writing a tell-all article about her experience! What happens when they both are attracted right from the start? Finally, Jamie has lived Claire all his life. So when he finally thinks he has a chance, he wants to woo her into marrying him! But she is convinced that this is another gag that the guys are doing? Can she ever trust that this is for real?
All the stories have a fast pace and an uncertain yet hopeful tone. The storylines are all character oriented with some steamy scenes and some action. The characters are vivid and engaging. There is a lot of emotion in these stories. These are the first in the Chance Creek series. Then comes the Heroes of Chance Creek, followed by the SEALS of Chance Creek, the Brides of Chance Creek and then the Turners vs. (I can't remember the other family) series. Finally we have 2 new series that just started: Holidays in Chance Creek and one other with a house for sale, Navy SEAL included. So if you are getting started, you have a lot of reading. These stories are filled with emotion and action. If that sounds good, then try this and enjoy!
Very entertaining series. This takes place in a very small Montana town where our first couple's thrown together by a matchmaking aunt and friend. Who knew you could have a rifle range and a vegan cafe work. The second story starts with all the friends from the first, though this is Ethan's. Through a series of extreme pranks Ethan, Jamie, and Rob have played on each other, who knew that his would backfire, least of all Rob. After taking a video and editing it, that Ethan would fall in love. Rob's video ends up on the internet looking for a cowboy wife. Autumn answers the video, as a way to write a story for her sleazy magazine. Next is Jamie's story. He's been in love with Ethan's sister Claire since they were teenagers. Again, Rob pulls another prank that leaves. Claire not believing Jamie when he makes an impromptu proposal to Claire on Ethan and Autumn's wedding day, and slides a bit to smAll engagement ring on her finger. The pranks continue along with the best. It's not until Claire's former boss and drug addict comes after Claire with severe harm that scares everyone. Not to mention Claire's anger at her mother, who along with her father died in a car accident that she discovers her mother's many secrets, including a sister no one ever knew about, .organ. Enjoy these delightful stories! I can't wait to finish the series!
Cowboys of Chance Creek ~ Volume 0.5 - 2 is an anthology with three sexy cowboys and how they find wives to settle down in the small Montana town of Chance Creek.
Story List:
The Cowboy Inherits a Bride ~ Sunshine Patterson opens a vegan restaurant in the lobby of Cole Linden's shooting range while living with him in the tiny apartment above the business. Let the good food and shooting begin in this romance.
The Cowboy's E-mail Bride ~ Ethan Cruz has his prankster friends to blame for bringing Autumn Leeds to Chance Creek after they posted an advertisement for a bride on the Internet. This is not how Ethan planned to find a wife but one look at Autumn changed everything for this hot cowboy.
The Cowboy Wins a Bride Jamie Lassiter has a long term plan to win Claire Cruz for his bride. He faces many challenges to win his bride; the best thing about Jamie is that he is sure of his goal and his determination to have a Labor Day wedding.
All three stories are set in Chance Creek, Montana with three friends finding the love they want to spend their lives with and all have a happy ending. Yeah!
Another of Cora Seton’s tight knit family’s Chance Creek Winning a Bride Vol 2 story. Claire Cruz & Jamie Lassiter were childhood sweethearts but neither one of them would admit it. Claire kept pushing Jamie away & Jamie would be known as the Big “Flirt with everyone but Claire. Claire went off to school to become an Interior Designer & Jamie would be working with his horses, training & riding. Claire moved away from her parents, anger at her mother for not paying attention to her & always traveling away from home, big house & went to Billings, Montana to live & work in Design. This anger came between all her relationships especially Jamie’s & her work. Claire needed to redesign her own life. Enjoyed this Saga, it’s a stand alone but would’ve been better if I read this one second after Vol 0. Can’t wait to read thru them all. Recommend this to all who like Contemporary, Western Romance.
These stories aren't bad. They're enjoyable quick reads.
I have to admit, I didn't love the first story, The Cowboy Inherits a Bride. I hated Sunshine. She was a really bad stereotype of a vegan (and no, I'm not an offended vegan!). She was shallow and clueless and it spoiled my enjoyment of the story.
The Cowboy's E-Mail Order Bride was better. The Cowboy Wins a Bride was probably the best of the three.
Overall, they are well-written and free of typos. The book was a pleasant read.
These books are well plotted. They have interesting situations, a clear sense of place, and flawed but likeable characters. I liked the way we learned enough about the characters to understand their motivations and appreciate their growth. The themes of honor and loyalty were important but in a subtle way. A little too much melodrama in Jamie and Claire's story kept me from giving these 5 stars.
Read all three books. All somewhat stand alone but they do flow together. The first was the best. They progressively got worse with profanity and ridiculous sex. It wasn’t so graphic but they acted like dogs on heat, which to me isn’t romance. The stories were not realistic but then again, I don’t believe these types of books are meant to be. They are an escape and a fantasy, so that was accomplished.
I didn’t feel these were well written. These couples were thrown together and really didn’t work. Only Jamie and Claire knew each other for years but Claire needs a shrink. Two couples come together because of a will to co-own a crappy building. A friend makes a You tube video of his drunk friend looking for a bride. The bride shows up to save her job. A friend proposes to the girl he grew up with in a horrible proposal. Add that the bride to be has way too much baggage.
If you love cowboys, you are going to love this box set of three stories to get you started. All about cowboys and the love they has for their women! I loved each story, and I know you will too. I can't wait to continue this series! Thank you for a great read Author, Cora Seton!
I thought most of the second story "The cowboys email order bride" was a little predictable. The beginnings when the main characters hop into bed right after meeting each other kind of made the stories a little unbelievable but other than that I liked the way the stories are written.
These were fun books to read, first about the girl who inherits a building for a restaurant then learns of some very unusual conditions in the will. Then a young man whose friends advertise for a wife for him and the one his friends have picked is landing now. Finally a girl who wins a bet and a husband in the process. All I can say is ENJOY!!
I actually the overall book. The story line is good. The main lady gets on my nerves a little. She really is blind to what is going on around her, very self absorbed. The rest if the characters make up for it. The self righteous billionaire also irritated me, again, it is easily overlooked. I did buy the series, so obviously it did not concern me too much.
A cute and sometimes silly trilogy of stories. Too short for any in-depth character development, but well-written. The one thing that irked me is that - even though the stories are set in Montana - they could've been set anywhere. I didn't get any real flavor of that state as far as descriptions of scenery and characters, etc., Still a light, easy read on a smoky sky day.
Three great stories. I love the characters and continuing story. While there are three distinct stories it feels as if they were all wrote continuously, leaving no mixed up characters or actions or divides between books. There is lots of humor, seriousness, action and hot, smart, fun, sexy cowboys!
Cora Set on never disappoints, and this box set is proof of the pudding. Cowboys of Chance Creek Vol.0-2 entertains and amuses as studly, strong ranch men and smart, independent women find love only after overcoming personal demons and lurking villains. Some R-rated love scenes not for subadults.
I read this book in two days. It's going on my 'To Be Read Again' list! Interesting characters, varying/intriguing storylines, all tied together beautifully with a pleasing writing style. The stories segue smoothly from one to another, while still being individually complete and fulfilling.
I enjoyed the series so far. The first one was probably my favorite because it was light and funny but I will finish the series because my friend says it will improve. The thing I didn't like was that it is hard to find a reading list and what series to start with
I had so much fun reading this set. The stories went from the most outrageous and hilarious situations to the more angsty ones seamlessly and effortlessly. And the characters were developed so well. I felt I could be them or their friends all the while I spent reading their stories. It surely is a series to keep immersed to.
Three stories about the cowboys of Chance Creek, and the obstacles they have to overcome before the happy ending. I quite liked the first one, the second one was still ok, but the third one had me roll my eyes, as I found the story and the protagonists, especially the female one, to be way beyond believable - and the friend, Rob, I would have shot and buried without a trace long before ...
