Clan Beginnings #5

Clan and Command

Rate this book
Losing the one man he loved convinced Piras he would never have a chance at happiness. He is too different from the other members of the Dramok breed to attract a Nobek warrior and Imdiko nurturer to his clan. Unwilling to pretend to be someone he is not, he faces a lonely future. Nobek destroyer captain Kila’s one night with Piras was a shocking revelation. Yet he can’t stop thinking of the temperamental Dramok admiral he has grown to respect. A dangerous mission in the midst of Kalquor’s civil war throws them together once more, and Kila must decide if Piras’s needs are an obstacle…or an incredible gift. Meanwhile, he has the added headache of an obstinate Imdiko chief engineer undermining his orders at every turn. Lokmi’s dual breed designation of Imdiko and Dramok has caused him problems in work and personal relationships. While he coddles his ship’s engines, his need to control puts him at odds with commanding Dramoks and fierce Nobeks. Dealing with hothead Admiral Piras and overbearing Captain Kila is everything Lokmi hates…until he discovers his unique qualities fit their needs. Could it be that he isn’t fated to walk through life alone? Three outsiders fight to save themselves, each other, and the Kalquorian Empire.

Tracy St. John

Born in a small town on the coast of North Carolina to strict parents, Tracy St. John started out as a quiet, shy child. She was typical for her small town: studying hard for good grades, fishing with her dad on Saturdays and attending church on Sundays.

When adolescence kicked in, so did full-on rebellion. School, family and church fell by the wayside as Tracy partied too hard with the wrong people. Somehow surviving her wild-child phase, she pursued several careers before finally settling on video production and writing.

A string of failed relationships prompted her to give up on love…which of course meant fate immediately tossed Mr. Right her way. After only 4 months of dating, she eloped with the love of her life. They just celebrated 14 years of wedded bliss.

Prior to penning her first erotic novel ‘Alien Embrace, Tracy wrote commercials, television and radio promos, and training films for various government entities.

Tracy St. John now lives in coastal Georgia with her husband and son. She still enjoys fishing, and you’ll often find her haunting train museums with her locomotive-loving son. Besides writing, she also works in video production both in front of and behind the camera. She’s usually cast as the gun-toting bad gal, getting handcuffed in the end. She has no complaints.

The Kalquorian Empire will strike back!
There is civil war. The Basma has set Kalquorians against Kalquorians.
Three dedicated men will help to defeat Basma and bring peace back to Empire.
They will have to sacrifice their reputation and to live with their guilt for the loses of a large number of honorable men.
They will have to be ready to die by both the enemy and by their ex-friends.
For honor and Empire.

“No clan. No Matara. I got that.
PIRAS. Dramok and Rear Admiral:
Piras was treated like garbage by his lover for 16 years. Lidon found a much younger, much fitter lover with a true Dramok attitude in bed. So he replaced Piras. Just like that. Being deeply in love, Piras would have killed himself for sure if he was an Imdiko. But he is a Dramok and an Admiral. He has to pretend he is strong and powerful to the outsiders. So he watched the love of his life getting clanned, finding a Matara, being happy, while he has spent most of the years after the breaking up being alone at the offices of Fleet Command and at his almost empty home surrounded by his favorite model ships.

“One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.
KILA. Nobek and Destroyer’s Captain:
Kila wants Piras, but Piras confuses him. The only time they spent together, Piras did not behave like a Dramok not that this displeased him. Piras surrendered straight away without fighting, without resistance. And that made Kila wonder if Piras is truly like this (that would be awesome!) or if Piras was just playing with him. Certainly Kila was not playing with Piras. He truly wants him and he is a keeper.
The main problem is that Piras has a huge emotional burden to carry. Not that Kila understands much of this emotional shit. Ancestors! He is a Nobek. He is not allowed to “feel or “understand anything.
And there is also this Chief Engineer who caught his eye. He is supposed to be an obedient Imdiko, but he has a huge problem following orders. Why can’t he leave the machines of his ship alone?
A Dramok who needs to submit and an Imdiko who refuses to submit. What a mess for Kila!

“Forget Love, I Just Want to Fuck.
LOKMI. Dual Breed (Classified as Imdiko, but with a Dramok attitude). Chief Engineer:
Lokmi has enough money to live happily and not to be there. He has built the engine prototype that led to the superfast mini-shuttles that were all the rage these days. He has also been a howler in a famous lemanthev band and he had a really famous hit tune. He could be a well recognized inventor. He could be a big music star.
Instead he joined the fleet.
Instead he has to listen to the nuisance of each stupid Nobek and obey the orders of each power-driven Dramok. But Lokmi is not just an Imdiko. He is also half Dramok. He has a strong personality and he is much cleverer than most of the men he knows.
Fortunately when the time comes, it will be clear (even for him) that Piras, Kila and Lokmi complement each other. Now that they are facing the most dangerous mission of their lives, they should have some fun. Maybe Lokmi can submit this time, as long as there is a willing Dramok on the side to play with.

The book deserves five stars, but I felt it was a bit incomplete with this cliffhanger in the end.
Anyway I hope Piras, Kila and Lokmi will be ready to meet their Matara in Summer 2017.

Rear Admiral Dramok Prias has a dilemma.

Total loyality to the Kalquor Empire and the Imperial Clan, he's now being asked to side with the rebellion and it's leader Basma for the purposes of infiltrating their inner circle as a spy. The problem is the actions needed to solidify his supposed loyalty and trust to Basma would include doing something so monstrous that every Kalquor citizen would seek his death via a long slow agonizing process. The question therefore arises: does he stay loyal and true risking years and years of continued civil war or does he shorten the war himself by cutting off it's head: Basma.

To add to his ever growing list of problems is a PITA (pain in the ass) Nobek, Captain Kila, who would be his contact with Basma. Kila, a double agent, is also the man who Prias had a one night stand with months ago. Is he now looking for payback by exposing him to Basma as a spy or is he looking for a reason to spend more time, including his bed, together.

Decisions. Decision.

Oh Ms. St. John, how I've missed you.

Nothing better than a Kalquor warrior getting some with some hot and heavy BDSM action. Man on man to boot. ok. Man on man on man too. :D

I totally stand up and applaud that the author included a Prologue. There's been many times I've had to hand write info to keep titles, terms, and historical facts straight. Thank you. Now if you (author) could only include a couple pictorial examples to solidify my understanding of the actual Kalquor unique anatomical mating practices to clear up that up I'd appreciate it. Yup. Totally would bow down and thank you for a few pictorial graphic clarifications which I would classify as educational tutorials for your fans. :D

OK. This is the 5th installment in the Clan Beginnings series. It's all about the men with m/m and m/m/m and BDSM play scenes. Not a DV in sight. So, any potential readers now know it's all about the men and THEIR beginnings before their matara (female) enters the picture.

The total love fest I have with this author continues as she takes on the subject of high profile successful characters who are closet submissive's in nature.
Insert:
OK. She also includes a story line that rings all my own personal bells and whistles: BDSM; SciFi; Action/Adventure; Suspense/Thriller; Snark; Alpha; EROTICA. And lest I forget to mention: alien men with unique anatomical appendages. I was a kid on Christmas morning.

The story opens with our central hero Admiral Dramok Piras being asked to betray his world by his peer group. On one hand he can continue in his role to fight the rebellion as a loyal Kalquor warrior .. or .. he can become a traitor to his race but with the ability to bring civil war to an end. The kicker though is if caught, the very peer group who is asking him to make this sacrifice, would disavow any knowledge of his spy status. Talk about pressure.

In the midst of this whole thing enters a face from his past. A previous sexual partner who knows his inner sexual conflicts and therefore could expose those secrets thus further damaging his career and standing. Or. Could be the very anchor he needs. Whats a decorated war hero Rear Admiral to do? For any potential fan of this author and/or m/m futuristic alien SciFi the answer is sit back, grab your popcorn, beverage of choice and enjoy. :D

All is not lost for our couple when a dual breed Imdiko enters the picture. This has got to be my favorite Imdiko character of the series. Lokmi. If I ever had the opportunity to have a alien gay BFF Loki, you're my man. The trouble we could cause ...... For a rough ROUGH character comparison for Lokmi think Scotty from Star Trek fame. :)

As for the adult content scenes. BDSM all the way. I am really reluctant to say much about the actual erotica scenes as this is a new release which the author has chosen not to say much about. So. I guess I'll do the vague non-spoiler thing myself. What I do want to say is I loved and lusted over the action between Prias & Kila, then Kila & Lokmi, followed by Prias, Kila, & Lokmi. Toe curling, five alarm, massive battery use are three consequences you can expect if you're anything like me. A good time was had for all. lol.

Just so you realize, this story isn't all about man romance and angst. Nope. The author does draw in history from previous installments (in other words I don't think this could be read as a stand alone) and emotionalism over lost love. Baggage. I also feel the author has used this as a bridge installment so fans of the series would benefit reading it. The kicker is that the ending does have a teaser quality (not quite a cliffhanger in my opinion) that I'd liken to a HFN ending. I guess this is confirmed as Ms. St. John posted December 15 on her face book page (yes I stalk her and a few auto buy authors): " I feel a little note should be made. There is a bit of a cliffhanger aspect to it. Not all issues are going to be resolved because the events of this book are timed to occur right before the next Clans of Kalquor book, Alien Revolt (to be released Summer 2017)"

My official rating for this book was a 4.5 star.. but heck as I'm smoking my mythical cigarette (I don't smoke) in afterglow I'm siding with a 5. Now, to go through withdrawals until Summer 2017....

Far better than I imagined. 5 Stars!

Better than I imagined. I followed the author's blog, reading the WIP posts that featured this book. Those posts were so good it had me going back to purchase and read her earlier Clan Beginning Books. Those were great as well.

The emotional toil each of the characters goes through ties you to their experiences. By the end you are rooting for them. If you've read her other books you will be surprised by the ending. Don't worry, it's believable and will still keep you on a high waiting for her next book.

Tracy St. John is an author I read and re-read. This book will be added toy re-read list. She is one of the few authors that successfully weaves plots and subplots through several books. I've re-read a book to find a character that pops up again two or even three books later. That is also why I love her books.

Know this, you can read this book as a standalone. But, you won't you'll happily pick another until you own as many as possible.

Heartbreaking

Kalquor sinking to a plot to sacrifice their own people for the greater good sickened me.
It was supposed to be Piras story but Kila who is a Nobek was running the show.
Really don’t know if I want to read the sequel to this.
Piras has his own people’s blood on his hand and I’m sorry the hero’s I want to read about are the ones who save lives.
Piras after Laro Station fell he was no better than Maf.

Wowsers!! I'm still waiting for my Kindle to cool down!!

Admiral Piras reluctantly accepts a risky undercover assignment that could mean a victory in the Empire's battle against the rebellion being led by the Basma. He becomes even more upset when he meets Nobek Kila, who's his mission contact, and Kila's new ship's engineer, a dual-breed Dramok/Imdiko, Lokmi. The pushy Nobek reminds Piras too much of the man who broke his heart years before, and Lokmi's unsettling duality calls to a part of Piras that he doesn't want to face. However, for their plan to succeed, he needs Kila and Lokmi....and also he can't deny the sizzling attraction that brings them together. Piras is determined to keep his emotions safe from any entanglements, but Kila's equally determined that Piras face his isolation and discontent and embrace their developing connection. However, as the war begins, and his harrowing mission gets underway, Piras discovers how much he needs the support and caring from the two men who've come to mean so much.

This book has it all -- there's loads of intrigue related to the rebellion, and it's all wrapped up in a delightfully kinky story. There's lots of well-paced action and suspense to keep the plot rolling along, so it doesn't get too bogged down by all of Piras's navel-gazing and angst. There's Piras's mission: a seeming betrayal of everything he holds dear. Then there's the Piras who's been isolating himself emotionally because his Dramok nature isn't a part of his sexuality. He must make a leap of faith in both Kila and Lokmi that they can love the man he is, not the man he appears to be.

Kila's wonderful -- he's able to readily accept Piras as both the military leader that he is, and as the pliant submissive who surrenders control in the bedroom. I loved that Kila just pushed through all of Piras's self-doubt and hand-wringing to see that he can become a member of a loving Clan. And...I liked that St. John had Lokmi take a step back, and not jump into clanning right away.

Even though it's Part 1 of a two-part story, it (thankfully) doesn't end in a cliffie....and I absolutely can't wait to read the next book!

Short but good

It as usual lived up to expectations. I like that the revolt is still continued here and we didn't have to read a past history of the clan before the current books come in. Necessary if your following the overall storyline. Not a stand alone. About as short as the Shalia's Diary compilations.

Wow

You have to have read the main series to understand this one, and I thought that it was pretty intense. It was nice to see Piras again, and I'm his own story.

This is my 2nd read of this series , the first one was Lidon's story and unfortuantly i didn't like it , no matter how true much it's about true love kinda a big turn off when it has cheating element specially if the other partner is a good guy , so i felt more about piras than Lidon so i came to this story
And luckily i enjoyed this one , all 3 characters were interesting and like the balance of the power play , now iam looking for the rest of their story

Thing are finally getting exciting, I absolutely love clan Pitas they are one of my favorite clans. But with everything heating up I fear this storyline has to end soon and that makes me sad. I hope the author writes a book about what happened to all the people left hanging in all of her books.

I enjoy all her books - I just had a harder time with this one because I saw the MC as the 'enemy' ( he isn't! Just my perspective) because he treats people horribly when he has a temper.

This book had more errors than usual - not a lot but unusual for the author. A step up from the last book, this one had strong characters and a plot that the reader can feel to their bones - even though the story is to be continued when published this summer, 2017. The anguish comes through the pages as the Admiral has to consider what he must do to turn the tide of the war so that their species and culture stands a chance of surviving. A good read.

I love the entire Kalquorian world. This series is a spin-off from the original Clans of Kalquor series, and this installment is a little bit different than the usual...the other ones are time travel, in a sense, how the clan featured in the Clan of Kalquor book first came together, before they find their Matara.

But this one, is Lidon's former love (it's properly the other way around since Lidon ditched him for Trannis and the mooning DeGorsk), and it's set in the present...and thus far he's only nailed down his Nobek (though we all know who the Imdiko will be)...and it ends on a bit of a cliffhanger to be resumed, apparently, in the next Clans of Kalquor installment.

I really, really love this world and all the characters.

This is one series that i have say always love to read. The characters are having a time as spy to protect their empire and honor. What they will go through to make sure they are able to get to the Rebel leader Maf before he destroy the Empire. We have Dramok that is truly half and half Imdiko. Piras is have a hard time get over the betray of his lover of 16 years. When Kilas come along and bulldoze his way in and show Piras that he can find some happiness. The battle and struggle that Kilas, Piras, Lokmi have show that not all relationship are perfect. Piras has made some hard choices to get close to his enemy. will these struggles and choices destroy him? Cant wait to see what happen next for these 3 this summer.Highly recommend this book and series

Wow

I love this series and I have a few favorites, but they just got replaced with Clan and command. Usually Ms. St Jon's books are not cliff hangers which I like, but this book is one. I usually avoid cliff hangers but this book was well written, and fast paced, I can't wait for the second half to come !

I've really enjoyed reading all of the books in the Clan Beginnings series but I was a bit disappointed with the ending of this story. I don't enjoy cliffhangers and the continuation of this story will be in the Clans of Kalquor series which I'm not interested in reading. Hopefully there will be another Clan Beginnings book at some point.
