Great little mystery with the taste of forensics. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This story was intriguing from the beginning. I couldn’t resist the mystery aspect of a doppelganger! What a great story idea!
We are introduced to some marvelous characters and wound through a case that wraps up quickly for the forensic investigators. Then we're introduced to a few new characters and a different case for the investigators. I found myself wondering where the story was going. How are the two interrelated?
I didn’t have to wait long to find the intersection of characters. Soon we are given a big twist and then there’s another big twist. Now things are perking up!
With plenty of intriguing characters, a great plot, and a little bit of suspense, this book was full of different factors that made it a superb read. Tough to put down and enthralling thoughout, this is perfect for a cozy weekend!
I know this is one of a series and I enjoyed it enough that I’m definitely going to check out her other books so I can get the full background in this ongoing series. One great part is I did not feel lost in the least picking up in book 6. But I do want to read the rest. I really enjoyed this book!
This is actually not the first book in the series, it is the sixth but it did read well as a stand alone novel for me.
We have all heard about doppelgangers, right? Growing up, I was told that somewhere in the world there was someone who looked just like me. Was that supposed to make me feel better or creep me out? Either way, I didn't buy it. But what would happen if one day you were walking down the street someone you have never met comes up to you and begins talking as if you are friends? Who tells you that you looks EXACTLY like someone you know! Intriguing, right?
That is what happens in this book. Gina and Dani have never met before. But after a chance meeting with a woman on the street who mistook one for the other, they correspond online and decide to meet. They are immediately intrigues - the DO look just like each other. So much so that they begin to think that they are twins. It could be likely, they are both adopted. What if?
But what if, someone did not want them meeting? What if someone did not want the truth to come out. Ahh...herein lies the mystery of this book. Once they meet in person and take a DNA test, strange things start happening and they contact the Forensics Instincts investigators and learn that there is definitely someone out there with a huge secret, someone willing to do anything to keep the secrets of the past from being known in the present day. But wait, there is more! This is where you need to read the book to find out the rest.
I enjoyed this book. As I mentioned, it works very well as a stand alone novel. I possibly may have enjoyed this book more had I read the other books in the series, possibly. I thought this book had good pacing and did not feel rushed or overly long. So why not a higher rating from me. Although, I enjoyed this book, I really did not feel connected to any of the characters. As I mentioned, maybe if I had read the previous books, I would feel some connection but nope none from me. I am sure that fans of this series will love this book. There is nothing wrong with it. It is enjoyable and entertaining. I would go so far as to even say that fans of mysteries who do not like violence, gore, explicit scenes will enjoy this book. It is on the more tame side for a mystery/thriller.
One thing I really appreciated about this book is that the characters are behaved in believable ways. This is the first time I have read this Author and I would be willing to read more of her books in the future.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to Andrea Kane, Simon & Schuster and the Life of a Book Addict group for the opportunity to read this book.
I struggled with this book more than I should. I have already read some other mysteries by Andrea Kane, they weren’t my favourites, but they were acceptable. Ìý Let’s start with the good things, I really appreciate the plotline. It’s worthy of note, it’s twisted and I was truly involved in it for most of the time. Gia discovers that she has a twin sister Dani and just after that both young women are in danger. First, Dani’s childhood photos are stolen, then someone puts a fire under Gia’s home. Scared women ask for help Forensic Instincts, a privet team of investigators. As I said, I find this part well-done. Ìý Unfortunately, the story is soooo slow. Nothing happens up to half of the book. The whole story drags on page after page. First, there is this Brianna case â€ which could be interesting on it’s own but it’s too simple to be truly remarkable. But it takes time to go through this introductive subplot. Then we are waiting while Gia and Dani slowly make connection and in the meantime keep an eye on their everyday life. It’s just too much. And there are also those completely meaningless dialogues that could be omitted without too much fuss. Ugh. Ìý I’m also dissatisfied with the final solution. There is no mystery, no suspense and just a tiny bit of action. Everything is so predictable and time-consuming. Ìý I will probably read another book in this series, I quite like the members of Forensic Instincts. It will be nice to meet them again, hopefully in some book with faster pace. As for A Face to Die for, I’m giving it very weak three stars, I would give 2.5 if I could.
The Forensic Instincts team is hard at work again in this fantastic story. I waited a long time for this one and I assure you, it was worth the wait. The premise was also quite different from anything I've read previously.
Gia Russo is minding her own business on the streets of New York when a stranger comes up and calls her Danielle, wanting to know what she's doing in the city. When Gia goes to correct the woman she pulls out her phone and shows Gia a picture of the girl she's referring to, named Dani. Gia's shocked when the girl is a mirror image of Gia, even though their hair styles are different. In short, they end up getting together and after talking, decide to do DNA testing which confirms they are identical twins. So what happened? Why were they separated at birth? Who are their real parents and where are they? Are they even alive?
Before they can really delve into an investigation, an attempt is made to stop them by dark forces who will do anything to keep the girls apart. As a result, Gia and Dani turn to Forensic Instincts for answers. What the investigators discover will leave them reeling and put them in even greater danger.
This was such a good book. There were several twists and turns I didn't see coming but what really made it 5 stars for me were the characters. Casey, as the fearless leader is a no nonsense kind of person. She takes life and her business very seriously. She's also very protective of her team. Claire is a clairecognizant, someone with a gift for seeing things about others just by touching them or being in a room where they'd been or picking up on a feeling or emotion. Ryan, Patrick, and Marc help with investigations, each bringing their own set of skills to the game. Emma works as their receptionist but has now earned a place on the team as well.
This book was filled with suspense although I really wouldn't classify it as a mystery or what I consider a thriller, even though it had elements of both. It certainly kept me turning the pages and I enjoyed the teamwork involved in the story. It reminded me a little of P. J. Tracy's Monkeewrench crew, also a favorite of mine. Now, I just hope we don't have to wait a long time for the next installment.
I finished up A Face to Die for which is essentially about a team of investigators who find themselves between two of their cases that could have a major conflict of interest. When one of their intersects with another, it is their job to find a link and unearth who is pulling strings and why.
The writing by Andrea Kane was organized. Her writing was easy to follow and it made the story a pleasant one to read. The plot was intriguing and it is what caught my interest in wanting even read this novel. This book is for you if you enjoy investigation type/ police procedural type novels. The characters made the novel interesting and you felt invested in their story. The ending was tied up very nicely and there were no unanswered questions. It felt nice to have a good ending. Overall, I enjoyed the plot. I did not have any complaints about the writing or the characters. You can tell that Andrea Kane spent a great deal of time researching. I liked this novel and I plan to read more by her.
Two women. Twins. Sharing the same face. They didn’t know each other existed. You may have read something along similar lines, or seen a movie like it. But the author adds her own twist and it’s a doozy.
It’s always a good sign when I connect with a character quickly. This happened more than once as each entered the story. I’m always drawn to character driven stories and a good thriller and I had high hopes for this book. The author delivered and it was a page turner.
Once you get to the part about the two sisters finding each other and realizing they’re twins, you think most of the surprises are over. Not so. There’s another huge one that ramps up the thrills. And it gets more suspenseful as they get closer to the truth about themselves and why they were separated.
Weird things happen and the sisters know they can’t handle this by themselves. Enter the team from Forensic Instincts. I first encountered the team in the fifth book in this series and it was fun to meet some of them again. And don’t worry if you haven’t read the previous books. They can stand on their own.
Why were they kept secret from each other? Who is behind it? How far will they go to keep them apart? I couldn’t wait to find out. A Face To Die For is such a great title for this book and it’s a white knuckle read that will keep your teeth clenched as you’re swept into a whirlwind of murder and suspense.
I received a complimentary copy. My review is voluntarily given.
In the prologue, a man who made collections for the mob is murdered along with his wife in 1990, New York. In present day New York City, Brianna meets with the team from Forensic Instincts Private Investigations because she is being stalked. Also, Gia, a wedding planner, learns she looks nearly identical to a woman in Minnesota. The two arrange to meet but someone is willing to commit murder to stop their future together.
I enjoy Andrea Kane's romantic suspense stories although this is the first one I've read in the Forensic Instincts series. I wondered what the first stalking case had to do with their second case but the author tied it all together with a surprise in the middle of the book.
I liked the Forensic Instincts team. Each member has unique skills -- computer specialist, clairvoyant, pickpocket, etc -- that complement the team as a whole. At times, I felt like I was watching the TV show Criminal Minds without all the toughness and gun play. Although I didn't feel a lot of suspense, I liked the book enough to look for the previous five in this series.
An amazing read! This seems to be part of a series but can be read as a stand alone. This book will pull you right in and keep you page by page! The twist this book will give you is great!
I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. It has a good plot but what I liked best about it was the characters. They made the novel a delight to read. The Forensic Instincts group is made up of people with unusual abilities. One reads body language well. Another is great at acting. One fellow is a technological expert while yet another senses the psychological states of others as well as their emotional history. It was fun to read how the group worked together to solve the mystery. I really enjoyed the wit and humor in their verbal interaction too.
I recommend this novel to readers who enjoy great character interaction as well as the solving of the mystery. You'll also get to ponder the idea of siblings being separated shortly after birth, being adopted, and then being reunited. I'll be looking for the next in the series. Kane can't write them fast enough for me.
I received a complimentary egalley of this book through Partners in Crime Virtual Book Tours. My comments are an independent and honest review.
Not a bad read. I wished there was less hugging. Seems a bit unrealistic for clients to be always hugging their investigators?
I was wondering how the two cases will intertwined so it was an interesting twist when we found out half way. The killer did become more obvious towards the end.
Personally, I think AK's prose is more suited to historical romances though.
Andrea Kane manages to take what should be a far-fetched scenario and make it seem quite logical. This story is a corkscrew of a tale and quite well done, as always.
God, this book is terrible. The style of writing is just difficult to endure and the conversations seem to have written by a rookie sit-com writer. I gave 2 stars because the story is actually interesting and if you read purely for entertainment you will like it. It was good enough to make me force myself to keep reading for a few chapters but I finally could not take the corny conversations and random observations. I would have enjoyed this book as a teenager. It reminds me of the twilight series a somewhat interesting story to read but bad narration.
This book was recommended to me by one of my Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ friends. Something a bit different for a mystery story. Gia Russo from Manhattan finds out there is a woman that looks exactly like her-living in Minneapolis. She can't help but contact the woman and find out more about her. They decide to get DNA testing and found out they are identical twins. But there is where the mystery and danger starts. Gia contacts Forensic Instincts a detective agency she knows in New York. Unfortunately the same forces who pulled them apart as babies are out there still. The danger escalates. Intriguing cast of characters at the detective agency and the plot keeps getting more complex. A very different premise for a mystery. Enjoyed it.
The team at Forensic Instincts are back and currently working 2 cases. One a stalking case of a Grad student, Brianna, and the other an eerily doppelgänger chance meeting of 2 strangers, Gia and Dani that turns sinister when their lives are endangered. But why?
They realize, after becoming friends, that they have a lot in common aside from looking so much like the other, one being that they are both adopted. They decide to take a DNA test to see if their resemblance to each other could be familial. They soon find out not only are they related but they are identical twins.
The story begins twenty-seven years ago with a mob hit. Does this have something to do with the twins? And why does the Forensic Instincts team think that their 2 cases are tied together in some way?
The story was fluid with believable characters. A captivating and engrossing read!
There were so many twists and turns in this incredibly suspenseful story. I thought for sure I had it all figured out, once, twice, and even three times when the author delivers a one-two punch that I didn't see coming. An electrifying and startling ending!!!
A warning, you will be saying to yourself "just one more chapter", but once you start it, you will want to finish it in one sitting because it is just SO good! A definite unputdownable read!!!!
(I received an ARC, from the author, in exchange for my honest review)
This is the type of story that I prefer when it comes to the FI team. I like when they work more as a team and it is what was missing in Dead in a Week. The mysteries are more engaging when they all work together. This is a great set of characters who just fit so well togather. The mystery was really enjoyable. There were several twists that I didn't call. For the most part, it works well as a stand alone book. But books one through five give the reader more of the background behind the team and how they came to work for Casey. So, it would't hurt to read them first. I definitely recommend this one if you missed it.
This is a rather unlikely tale of three young women who discover, with the help of the Forensic Institute, that they are identical triplets, torn from their family as month old infants, and adopted in three different families. There is romance, murder, politics, and mystery.
Good read. This book is not the best one in the series but is enjoyable. I liked the premise. I'd like to see Casey and Hutch's relationship move forward more. Recommended for fans of the series.
It has been a while since I have read a book by this author. So, I was very looking forward to reading this book. I had no problems reading it and finishing it in a very quick manner. No, the issue for me was that I did not feel or experience any heightened build up of intensity in the storyline. Plus, it felt a little disjointed. Nothing really came together until the last third of the story.
Although, I will give props to Casey and her team at Forensic Instincts. The team is what kept me reading. They worked well and smart together. Casey is a good, strong female lead. Who has earned the respect of her team. When the story did all come together in the end, I had no reactions. Sadly, this book did not win me over. Yet, I do plan to go back and read some of the other books that I missed in this series as I want to see more of Casey and the rest of the team in action.
Gia is in the middle of wedding season and thinks nothing of it when someone mistakes her for someone else. When that person shows her a picture the person is identical to her. Dani and Gia get in contact with each other and it is immediatelyÌýapparent that someone wants to keep them apart. Badly shaken by the danger they are in, the girls contact Forensics Instinct. FI find themselves deep in the mystery when they inadvertently came across a third identical sister. FI works quickly to solve the mystery before anyone gets hurt. The truth is more sinister than they ever could imagine.Ìý
In an Oyster Shell - This book was expertly crafted and was one of the best books I have ever read.Ìý
The Pearls -ÌýI had no idea this was a series until I looked on Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ to find information for this post. I am so excited, it is taking all of my will power to not download all the books right now and go on a binge.Ìý
The series focuses on a group of private investigators called Forensics Instinct. It's a group of talented people that solve cases. I am so floored that I have never heard of this series before now. The group is really interesting having ex-special forces and a psychic along with the top behaviorist. They all make an interesting for an interesting troop. Ìý
The mystery kept me guessing. There were random parts of the story at first that didn't seem like they had any relevance. Towards the end, it all went together. The author is a plot mastermind. It looked like shattered bits and came together for a very involved story. Ìý
I thought this was going to be a Si-Fi book but it was much more sinister than that. I liked that this ended up being a thriller. It was much more believable than the plot I had going in my head as I read this book. It was fun that you could make assumptions and be dead wrong. I'm hardly ever wrong!
Wow, absolutely brilliant! I loved everything about this book from beginning to end. This book was exciting, fun, interesting, gripping and even sad in spots! And I am a sucker for sad books. I would dare say this book was flawless in my opinion. And, to put the sprinkles on the sundae - its part of a series! Woohoo! Well, guess what I'm doing? Yep - I'm putting the rest of the books on my TBR list!
LOVED, loved, loved the characters! Excellent character development. I think that will be one exciting part about reading the other books in the series - I am hoping you get to know the other members of the FI team better. This one focused on the clients and mainly 2 or 3 of the team. And - the team! - what a team, I loved them! They are like super heroes of the PI world. What fun. This would make a great TV series!
All through the book I kept trying to make guesses and almost every time I was wrong. Guess I wouldn't make a very good investigator. They make investigating look like soooo much fun! There were a few "OH MY GOSH!" moments when you found out who certain people were and how it all connected. All the pieces were masterfully pulled together.
Honestly I would not have chosen this book based on the cover. It looks older to me (I hope it gets re-vamped). But I am so glad I did read it! It might be one of my favorite books of the year! Well just proves you really can't choose a book by its cover!
I was at 76% of the e-book and I was trying to watch the Steelers game but I couldn't stop reading! I ended up finishing the book during the timeouts and commercials. Yes, it was that good.
"We have everything. We're coffee fanatics." "We've got great coffee, espresso, latte, and snickerdoodle cookies. What's your pleasure?" - One of everything please! I love a book that talks about coffee!!!
I am ashamed to say this is my first book by this author! She has so many. I can promise this is only the beginning for me! This book earned every one of those 5 stars. You guys really need to check this one out - you won't be sorry!
I voluntarily posted this review after receiving a copy of this book from Partners in Crime Tours ~ Thank You!
Based on the prologue (shown below as the excerpt), it's easy to conclude that this is a case involving separated twins who have discovered each other and so it is but, in a coincidence to top them all, these twins are about to learn some things that will really rock their world. First and foremost, Gia and Dani need to know who seems to want to keep them separated and why. For that, they enlist the aid of the Forensics Instincts crew.
The FI company is an interesting hodgepodge of people who have individual strengths they bring to bear in solving crimes, sort of private investigators on steroids. I like these people (although they're not all people and I like the non-people even more) and the way they interact with each other. At the time we first encounter them, they're working a stalking case in which a college student is being relentlessly pursued by a professor and, once they resolve this situation, the team is ready to take on the investigation into what's happening to Gia and Dani and, just as importantly, what happened in the past. Surprises at nearly every turn and questions leading to more questions take the team and the young women down a twisty road and what develops is alarming and malevolent past comprehension.
This is my first encounter with the Forensics Instincts group and I found them credible with just a touch of wow-ness to their individual strengths. Clearly, they're closeknit, a kind of family, and they rely on each other unreservedly. In some ways, they remind me of the geniuses in the TV show, "Scorpion", and, with all their strong points, they're also touchingly vulnerable. I'm eager to spend more time with Casey, Hutch and all the rest; fortunately, I have five previous books to keep me going till the next one comes out.
The Forensic Instincts team is investigating two different cases. The first one is the stalking of grad student Brianna. The other is a strange case of two women looking exactly alike. Gia and Dani get to be close friends and end up learning that they are closer than they look. But the past is going to come crashing in and stir up these three women’s lives. It’s up to the Forensic Instincts unit to get everything sorted and keep them alive.
Two separate woman are introduced and become fast friends. Then they learn that they are twins that have been separated because of a horrible event in the past. But there is more to this story and the past is not going to stay there. The Forensic Instincts team has their hands full putting together all the pieces and keeping the women alive.
I read The Stranger You Know and really enjoyed that book. So when I was offered A Face to Die For I had to jump for the review. It is so easy to get sucked into these books. I love how everything linked up and all of the action and twists and turns. This is a great story and although part of a series you will not have a hard time figuring out what is happening. I cannot wait to get my hands on this whole series.
I received A Face to Die For from Partners in Crime Virtual Book Tours for free. This has in no way influenced my opinion of this book.
I must have loved this book because I read over 100 pages first sitting. The book starts out with two incidents. College professor stalks student Brianna. (Who has an awesome friend Lina.) Creepy guy too. Then we meet Gia, a wedding planner that we know from the first 15 minutes of her life - she has no life. As we clear up the stalker and move our attention to Gia someone walks up to her on the streets of NYC and calls her Dani. This person is so shocked she’s not her friend Dani she shows her a picture of Dani. Wow more than a similarity. Gia and Dani meet, decide to do a DNA test. While Dani is visiting some unsettling things occur. Someone doesn’t want them to meet. Later Lina is back in the story with a father running for the House of Representatives. The gang from Forensic Instincts are all here. We see a lot with Emma as she gets her groove in the group dynamics. Claire is ever right on with her cognitive feelings. Casey get thrown for a loop giving a great understanding of the confidentiality FI has in place. I’m pretty sure this was my favorite in this series.
The team is hired by a student who fears she is being stalked by her professor. As they work that team, a second story is introduced to the readers. The first story is quickly wrapped up when Emily is able to lure the professor into propostioning her. The real story is the case of mistaken identity but is it really? The two woman meet and quickly find themselves thinking could they really be related they look like mirror images of each other and many things in their past are a mystery. They quickly find themselves in danger and hiring the team to find the truth.
This was a fast paced story and the pages turned themselves as I quickly read trying to find the answers the woman were seeking. I would give it 5 stars except the connection between the two cases were weak and the identity of the person behind the mystery left me perplexed.
this is book 6 in the Forensic Instincts series by Andrea Kane and it's a winner. Casey and the FI team first must help a girl being stalked by her college professor as soon as that one is done the call comes in from another woman requesting Marc's help. Gia Russo is a wedding planner and always thought she was a lone child. A friend sees her exact look a like and sends her a picture and the girls face book and then meet. Danielle Murano also always thought she was a lone child knowing she had been adopted, so when she sees Gia and sees an exact copy of herself both girls are thrown for a loop, soon added into the mix is a third girl Angelina Brando, raised as a rich spoiled pampered girl she is the exact copy of Gia and Dani. Casey and her team must find the answers and sort out why the girls are being threatened and why everything was and still is so hush hush about it before all three girls end up permanently gone for good.
Andrea Kane is one of my favourite authors, for when I wish to escape. That said, this one was a disappointment. For one thing, in my opinion, it should have been more streamlined. While lengthy reads can be alright, if there is a lot happening & a lot of character development needed, which is the case in this storyline, the author spent too much time describing how people were dressed, the food they ate, and the appearance of the settings in which the action happened. It made the story drag on too long, and was a distraction.
To be fair, I've never been impressed with people who put too much store in the price of their homes, clothing or other status symbols. Perhaps this aspect of the story is putting me off. I still recommend Andrea Kane as an author.
This is a splendid thriller by an author that I have not read before. Now I will have to find the earlier books in what is most likely a great series. The premise of the book is unique in telling us the story of identical triplets who don't know about each other. There is much intrigue and an eerie sense of suspense that grows as the story goes along. The members of Forensic Instincts, who help the girls untangle their story, are remarkable characters and their expertise helps to ground the story so that it seems to be not too far-fetched. There is a good balance of foreboding and hope in the story.
When a case of mistaken identity in Manhattan results in Gia Russo seeing a photo of a Minneapolis woman who looks exactly like her, she can't resist reaching out to the mysterious stranger. After exchanging messages both women agree to meet in New York . Shocked at the sight of one another, and then comparing their baby pictures, Gia and Danielle decide to undergo DNA testing. The test's confirmation that they're identical twins raises more questions than answers. And with good reason. The forces that separated them years ago are still at large. Awesome book, want to read some more by this author. It was full of surprises!
This was a good, not great, mystery/adventure novel. The Forensic Investigation team is at it again. Three identical women. Two of the three have been threatened. Conspiracies abound. The first "case" was introduced only to bring one of the three identical women into the picture. Then, it was swept away without much in the way of resolution. Also, the Author goes out of her way to explain DNA collection and a few other legalities in a very clunky fashion. (The investigator thinks "this is why I am doing this. I have to do it this way to protect the evidence."--who does that? No one.)
