Another excellent reference book in the series of dtv atlases, this Bible encyclopedia presents relevant knowledge and scholarship in a clear, well-researched and concise manner. And although textually dense, dtv-Atlas Bibel is actually (and in my opinion) not all that difficult to read and understand (but yes, you do need to be fluent in the German language, as this is definitely not a book meant for German language novices). With detailed illustrations, timelines, an extensive and nicely organised bibliography, and multiple useful indexes, this is indeed one of the best general reference book on the Bible I have read to date. And to tell the truth, while I, personally, did not and do not find the numerous colourful graphs and illustrations of dtv-Atlas Bibel all that enlightening and helpful (as being a highly text-oriented reader, I do tend to concentrate more and also with much more ease and less distraction on written script), for those individuals who learn and retain information most readily and easily with and by illustrations and diagrams, the accompanying figures, sketches and graphs are an added bonus (and might even perhaps make someone like me, someone who generally relies on text and text alone, take notice). Highly recommended!
