Geralyn Dawson moves to the next level of sophisticated romantic suspense in the tradition of Jayne Ann Krentz.

When ex-Military Intelligence officer Mark Callahan discovers that someone is murdering members of his former unit, he must join forces with the only team member more dangerous than himself—his estranged wife, Annabelle Monroe.

A private investigator, Annabelle would rather trade in her gun for a slingshot than partner with Mark. But she can’t deny her old loyalties—or the sudden threat to their safety. So together, she and Mark will follow the bloody trail of a killer, only to come face-to- face with betrayal—and an overpowering desire...

Wow--what a book! Truly un-put-down-able! If I had the time and was capable of reading a book in one sitting, this would be one of them! This one pushed all my buttons, and had everything I enjoy in a romantic suspense. There's action, sexual tension, romance, hot sex, family problems, regrets, forgiveness, mystery, love, and one big whopper of a surprise ending. (Please, don't ruin it for yourself like I did and 'accidentally' read the last page!) The hero and heroine are fabulously drawn characters (I felt like I knew them personally), both stubborn and hard-headed, but courageous, with big, generous hearts, and oh-so-right for each other! This one had me alternatetly biting my nails, tapping my foot in frustration, smiling, --even crying. I truly did not want this one to end, yet I was so satisfied when it did!

Mark Callahan is an ex-military intelligence officer, a former member of a special covert military unit nicknamed 'The Fixers'. The 12 men/woman team worked as troubleshooters for everyone from the US Army to the CIA through espionage efforts aimed mostly at criminal organizations involved in drug trade and smuggling. When Mark becomes aware that someone is murdering the members of his former unit, he must join forces with his former wife (once a member of the same unit), to catch the murderer.

Annabelle Monroe was the 'siren' of the unit--the distraction, the 'woman-as-weapon'. She could get the drop on a target before they could react, since they would be too distracted by her 'assets'. While members of the unit, Mark and Annabelle were attracted to each other, but couldn't do anything about it. But once the unit disbanded and they were no longer in the military, all bets were off. Because Annabelle had strong beliefs against sleeping with a man before marriage, after a friend's wedding in Las Vegas, Mark and Annabelle are inspired to elope. They are fantastically compatible sexually, having trysts in hotel rooms, linen closets, against walls, and on beaches during fun-filled, romantic getaway weekends all over the world. But they never settle down and commit to having what would be called a 'typical' marriage--no home, no family, no dreams of a white picket fence. Basically, they just have a 'legal' affair. And that works for a time. But when Annabelle has a pregnancy scare, they are forced to confront the state of their marriage, and face what each expects out of it. Annabelle realizes she's ready to settle down and have a family, yet Mark (because of his troubled past) is vehemently against the idea of a family. The idea of a family is a huge stumbling block that they can't get past, so they agree to divorce and go their separate ways. But being forced to work together closely to capture a killer makes it hard to deny their feelings any longer--they are miserable apart. Can Mark finally heal the wounds from his troubled past in order to give his heart completely to Annabelle? Can Annabelle forgive Mark for breaking her heart and give him one more chance to win back her love? And can they find the sicko who is trying to destroy them and their families so they can have another shot at happiness?

If you enjoy romantic suspense in the style of Marliss Melton, Beverly Barton, or even Suzanne Brockmann, I urge you to give "Always Look Twice" a try. Although it can be read as a stand alone, it is book three of the Callahan Brothers series. Do yourself a favor and start with the first book, called "Give Him the Slip"--it's about Mark's twin brother, Luke. This is an outstanding series which just gets better with each book. An easily recommended 5 stars!

Always Look Twice is my favorite book so far in this great series about the Callahan Brothers. Both the hero and heroine in this novel were very likeable, and I found the story to be intense and emotional. There was plenty of action and a good storyline. I am eagerly looking forward to the next book by this author.

When Mark Callahan crashes a party planning to rescue a family friend from his hometown who is in a bad situation, he is surpised to find a gun held to his back by none other than his secret wife, Annabelle. Mark has blundered into an operation she is involved with, and they join forces to make certain that they both get out safely. A few days later, Mark's family pushes him to brave facing Annabelle. The two have been secretly married for several years and estranged for the last two. Their unconventional marriage worked for both of them for a few years as they experienced passionate reunions all over the world. When Annabelle had a pregnancy scare and decided that she really wanted a child, Mark was adamantly against their ever becoming parents or making a real home together. The two parted two years ago after this last encounter under hostile terms, but have not taken steps to sever their legal relationship. Mark's family forces him to realize that he is keeping Annabelle from moving forward and obtaining what she wants, so he goes ahead with a divorce. Months later Mark and Annabelle face each other at a funeral for a fellow member of the former elite military unit with which they were once associated. Annabelle has realized that several unexpected deaths have claimed members of their old unit, and she is unable to make contact with several other members. It soon becomes apparent that someone is out to eliminate the team. Mark and Annabelle must work as partners to find out who is targeting them. As they spend time together, they are no longer able to deny their strong feelings for one another. They soon resume their passionate relationship, but Mark must overcome serious issues from his past before they can possibly have a future together.

This was a great romantic suspense novel. It had very appealing main characters and updates on the two Callahan brothers from the previous books in the series. It was great to read more about Luke and Matt Callahan and their wives. I liked the interaction between all of the Callahan family members, but especially that between Mark and Annabelle. This book was fast paced and difficult to put down.

5 stars Romantic Suspense

As good as the first two books in the Callahan Brothers series are, this third installment is even better and totally blew me away! Where Give Him the Slip and Never Say Never leaned more towards wacky humor mixed with some action and light suspense, the drama, romance, and suspense elements take precedence in Always Look Twice. I really enjoyed the way Ms. Dawson weaved events in such a way as to give the feel of reading a good contemporary romance and a thrilling romantic suspense all in one.

I loved the main characters, Mark Callahan and Annabelle Monroe, and enjoyed their explosive chemistry and deep emotional connection. The serious involvement of the other Callahan brothers and their wives and kids and the Monroe family is a nice addition to the story and gives credibility to the relationship building between Mark and Belle.

It’s a truly outstanding read and the best of the series so far, which is saying a whole lot! I highly recommend this series to romantic suspense fans, especially those who love hot, former bad-boy military heroes. I give it 5 stars!

I found a new favorite author. This was a wonderful romantic suspense with neat characters, good action, suspense and well written. It moves right along and had some surprising twists that I didn't see coming. I like that.

There are a lot of regrets in this book. Making amends for past mistakes and deciding how much a person can take before they have to walk away. I didn't think I would like reading about a couple that worked together, married in secrete, met whenever they could (for sex) around the world, never had a home together, then the man just walked away because the woman wanted more. But, the way the author portrayed the characters had me glued to the pages. There were a lot of extenuating circumstances that were brought into the picture.

I laughed and got choked up on ****BLANK*** when the Callahan family all gathered to include the father. Can't say more without posting spoilers.

One thing I will say, Aw hem, when making chocolate chip cookies, you NEVER use a mixer after you pour in the chips. Stir by hand. ;-)

I'm gong to back up and read the first three in this series and I recommend to anyone contemplating reading this one that they do the same. There were times when I felt lost because two other brothers (and their wives) had a good deal of time in this story and I had not a clue as to what some of the past events they mentioned were about. (darn it)

Always Look Twice the final book in the Callahan Brothers trilogy has the bones of a really good romantic suspense - the balance between the backstory, action and the romance between Mark and his ex-wife Annabelle thrown together on another mission which forces them to confront what is unfinished business between them makes for exciting reading.

Where the book falls down is the overload of resolution in the final chapters between about three storylines which is rushed and the facts become a little hazy and don't quite ring true. And what a cliffhanger to end the trilogy on! As I read on with the novella, A Callahan Carol an author's note explained the problems with her publisher that left the storyline hanging and was thankfully resolved when she began her new series Eternity Falls under the new name of Emily March.

3 stars: Fast paced mystery suspense thriller with some romance

We met Mark Callahan in the earlier books in the series. He is one of the Callahan brothers, sons of Branch, and a former military squad leader. We learned in a previous book that he had been secretly married and his wife had his baby, but they were killed. In this book, we learn that he secretly married again to Anabelle, a former squad member but that they are estranged. They work together to track down a killer targeting their squad members.

The first half of the book was pretty good, but it didn't pull me in as well as the earlier books. The last half was full of twists and turns that kept me turning the pages--really great! I liked the surprises uncovered towards the end. I enjoy most of the characters in this series, with the exception of Mark the lead character in this book. He was just too much of a jerk and so much of his angst could have been avoided if he'd just communicate a little better. The romance parts of this book I had a hard time buying. Annabelle was such a sharp, successful, strong character I just didn't see her pining away for Mark for so long or putting up with his crap.

This was the weakest book so far in the series (good not great), but still entertaining and worth reading. Overall I really enjoy the Callahan series and look forward to reading the next book about John. From what I've read from the author's site it will be a bit different from the earlier books in the series:

Great who-done-it/reunion romance. Mark and Annabelle were great together and the chemistry between them was smokin'!

Really enjoyed this one and am thrilled to know John Callahan will get his book in her new series under the Emily March pen name! I was worried.

Overall reaction to this book:

WTF final chapter and WTF overall suspense.

*** mega spoilers ***

The MCs are supposed to be these super trained, cartoon like superhero/superheroine, yet neither could see what poor little untrained (and against any glorification of militarism) me could see a mile off, that the 'gallery girl' was a fake, who had 'suspect' written all over her in bold, fluorescent print. It took two dead bodies, bloody footprints on the floor leading up to 'gallery girl' (being shot at by her) for them to work it out. Stupid beyond belief, both of them. The story about the ex-Fixer who killed so many of the Fixers was ludicrous and never really managed to be even minimally convincing (not to say what his presence revealed about the real abilities of the Fixers. My hamster is more competent than those guys).

The whole had an air of 'I don't know WTF I'm writing, I'll just make it up as I go along...who's gonna notice'. Unfortunately, I read to the very sorry end, where everything and the kitchen sink was thrown in (seriously, you'll be pelted with last second ideas): discovery of adult sons, formerly thought to be baby daughters, who then turned out to be not one's own, but, wait, no, cross that out, turn out to be one's own (biology is all there is for such writers); fathers who lied and then did not lie and then were lied to; evil ex mother in laws and ex wives who died and then did not die and then died (in the same way they died when they didn't die); baby girls (for the majority of the story) who turned out to have been baby boys (I've mentioned that above, but the WTF value of it cannot be milked enough); risible schemes to get a woman free of her evil mother and her misunderstood father in law (without the husband/love of her life/father of baby-with-fluid-gender knowing anything about anything); and then murderous spies, colonels married to spies, villains who are very villainous but also turn out to have a heart of gold, and, finally, a cliffhanger! I personally couldn't care less about the latter, as I, half way through this book (before the WTFckery went on overdrive), knew I was never going to read another line by Geralyn Dawson. Apparently, the writer herself is of the same mind (five brownie points for self-awareness), as she has given up on this series, and, hopefully, on RS writing altogether. Good decision, Geralyn.

We learned at the end of the previous book in this series that the hero of this book resents his father more than his brothers because he not only blames dad for the death of a 4th brother, but for the death of his wife and baby. At the beginning of this book, we discover that the dead wife is not the only wife he ever had. He walks into an op he and his brothers are running against the bad guy he blames for killing their dead brother, and runs smack into his ex-wife, the one who divorced him only a year or so ago. They were both members of an elite, undercover government ops team of some kind, and for him their marriage was perfect. They turned up in the same town every so often, had some hot steamy sex, then went off to the next mission. Then she started making noises about settling down and having kids. He wouldn't cooperate, so she divorced him. The team is dissolved, and the hero has to find something new to do. And he's having trouble doing it. Only now, somebody-- probably this bad guy he and his brothers have been after-- is killing off members of his old team, and he has to team up with his ex to figure everything out. Lots of action, quite a bit of angst, some secrets revealed and a happy ending. Enjoyed this one.

What a story! Dawson took me on an adventure alongside her characters. The suspense shone through while the love between the characters was impossible to miss. Dawson’s writing throws you right into the fray with her characters, giving you the full impact of this fast paced, suspenseful, yet overwhelmingly emotional tale. It’s definitely a fantastic addition to an already great series.

The dynamic between Mark and Annabelle was unforgettable. I love how easily they fit together even if they wanted to deny it. Mark’s vulnerability was a direct counterpoint to his strength of character and oh-so-alpha-maleness. It made him so very real. It took me a while to figure Annabelle out. She was a walking contradiction from the start. A very intriguing individual and quite likeable once you get to know her. The supporting cast in this novel was one of my favourites to date. Everyone was so well developed and you really get up close and personal with them. On top of that, they were quite likeable. I loved the fact that no one was perfect but that they were willing to try.

This novel was fully, suspenseful, and packed with heat & chemistry. Dawson has definitely created another winner for her boys from Brazos Bend.

Absolutely fabulous last installment of the trilogy with emotionally-wounded Mark. The heroine is great - a feisty, smart ex-military, who, at the end of the day, just wants a family. There are so many great twists in this story that it just gripped me.

One thing I've really enjoyed about this trilogy is that, yes, the hero/heroine combinations are all specimens of physical perfection but their characters are so well drawn that you get sucked in. None of the heroines are particularly sympathetic on paper - a rock star's daughter, a paparazzi and an ex-military investigator - but they are so much more than the one-dimensional types you find in some romances. Nicely done.

Oh the messes those Callahan Brothers find themselves in. This was another great read by Emily March. She just never disappoints. She knows how to balance adventure, humor, romance and solid, great characters. The storyline never fails to keep you turning the pages. Mark really was touching. You see him deal with his past and deal with the issues he has with his Father. Also him and Annabelle are perfect for each other. She was fits into that crazy family like a glove. Thank you Emily for a great series!

I really enjoyed this novel. I did a lot of crying and a lot of being just a little scared. I loved how the whole family unit worked together to save a daughter of someone who worked for them. And to have a couple who belonged together get back together after thinking that he didn't want to be a parent again and she did. And to make sure that his sister-in-law makes it to the hospital. And having son and father make amends after many years. I would recommend this series to all of my friends. I want to read the rest of them.

Another fun read from Geralyn Dawson. It's a bit of a cliffhanger, however, and she didn't write the fourth book. I recently read that she is writing under a different pen name, Emily March, and has a continuation of sorts due out in Jan 2011. She said she changed her pen name because she's completely changed her style of writing. So the fourth Callahan book isn't a romantic suspense. I'd love to see the story completely tied up, but I guess we'll wait until next year for that!

4.5 stars. Great story, loved the relationship between Annabelle and Mark. It was great. Unfortunately, I had not read the others in the series, but the book had me so hooked by the time I realised it was part of a series, I just wanted to carry on reading.

Now I will give it a little time, and then I will go and read the rest of the series.

Reread and still a 4.5 star read

UNEXPECTED ADVENTURE! BOUNDLESS EXCITEMENT! COMPLICATED, UNANTICIPATED, AND UNBELIEVABLE MYSTERY! THERE ARE EVEN INTENSE MOMENTS OF MISJUDGMENT AND DEEP-SEEDED MISTRUST THAT EXIST BETWEEN THE PRINCIPAL MALE AND FEMALE CHARACTERS! AND, OF COURSE, THE EXTENSIVE RELATIONSHIP THAT IS SHARED BY THIS STUBBORN, SHARP-EYED, HANDSOME MAN AND THIS STRONG-WILLED, INTELLIGENT, BEAUTIFUL WOMAN IS FURTHER COMPLICATED BY BROKEN HEARTS...LINGERING HURT...MISGUIDED DREAMS...PAST GHOSTS...HAUNTING SECRETS...PRIDE...PROFESSIONAL PARTNERSHIP... LUST...SEXUAL TENSION...LOVE THAT CONSTANTLY PULLS THEIR BODIES, HEARTS, AND MINDS IN A MYRIAD OF DIRECTIONS! THIS PAGE-TURNER SHOULD DEFINITELY INTRIGUE EMILY MARCH (originally writing as GERALYN DAWSON) FANS FROM BEGINNING TO END! EMILY MARCH'S FANS SHOULD BE CLINGING TO EDGE OF HIS/HER SEAT FROM THE FIRST PAGE TO THE LAST! JUST LIKE THE PREVIOUS NOVELS IN THIS SERIES BY EMILY MARCH (originally writing as GERALYN DAWSON), THIS NOVEL DEFINITELY WILL NOT DISAPPOINT AUDIENCES!

MARK, the third novel included in the Callahan Brothers Trilogy (Brazos Bend Series) is only the third novel that I have read by Geralyn Dawson (Emily March). After reading both LUKE and MATT, the previous novels included in the Callahan Brothers Trilogy (Brazos Bend Series), I just knew that I had to finish the series by reading MARK. Using all of the information that Geralyn Dawson (Emily March) had revealed about the Callahan family in both LUKE and MATT, I surmised that Mark "Devil" Callahan would end up being the man who would have the MOST complex, complicated life story to share. I also surmised that Mark "Devil" Callahan's journey through life would be the MOST fulfilling and heartwarming once it unfolded. After all, MATT, the second novel included in the Callahan Brothers Trilogy (Brazos Bend Series) actually ended with Mark Callahan confessed a BIG secret with his older brothers -- a BIG secret that he had kept buried for AT LEAST 17years. Within the final chapter of MATT, Mark Callahan revealed that he had a wife and child! To say the least, learning that Mark had married as a teenager and fathered a child was definitely an EARTH-SHATTERING BOMBSHELL of an announcement with which Matt and Luke Callahan had to deal! However... Having said that, learning that Mark's child bride, Carrie, and infant daughter, Margaret Mary, had tragically died in a car accident caused by a drunk driver was HEARTBREAKING, SOUL-CRUSHING disappointment to both men! It was apparent that both Matt and Luke both wanted to help their brother move forward to embrace his future. Just like his older brothers, Mark "Devil" Callahan had run away from his past for the last 17years, and that past centered around a shattered relationship with his father. Then, in the opening pages of MARK, Geralyn Dawson (Emily March) artfully revealed another of this man's long-held secrets: Mark "Devil" Callahan has not only hidden one wife from family, but he has actually hidden two wives!

And... The first time that Geralyn Dawson (Emily March) introduced Annabelle Monroe to her audience during the first chapter of MARK, this mysterious, striking beauty proved to be NOTHING LESS than a firecracker! For the third time, Geralyn Dawson (Emily March) demonstrated that yet ANOTHER Callahan brother had entangled himself with yet ANOTHER beautiful, challenging, intelligent, no-nonsense, and strong-willed woman! So... After learning that Annabelle Monroe that was Mark "Devil" Callahan's second wife, numerous questions immediately began:
(1) Why did Mark NEVER tell his older brothers about his marriage to Annabelle either before or after it took place?
(2) Why are Mark and Annabelle not currently together?
(3) How would Mark and Annabelle handle the reality of working together professionally once they discover that EACH and EVERY member of their military team -- including themselves -- have become targets to a murderer?
(4) Will Mark ever be able to face his past? Will he be able to repair his nonexistent, tattered with his father after 17years of hatred?
(5) Will Mark and Annabelle be able to follow a path that actually leads to love? Build a future together?

Thankfully, Geralyn Dawson (Emily March) explained, illuminated, and answered EACH of these questions for her audience throughout the plot of MARK. I truly enjoyed reading this novel. In my humble opinion, MARK proved to be the BEST, MOST SATISFYING novel included in the Callahan Brothers Trilogy (Brazos Bend Series). Geralyn Dawson (Emily March) definitely did an admirable job of weaving a plot in MARK that tied up ALL of the loose ends for the three REMAINING Callahan men. How wonderful! The Callahan Brothers Trilogy (Brazos Bend Series) outlines the unique saga that definitely needs to be embraced and explored! Don't miss it!

I have loved the previous audiobooks in this series and this one did not disappoint. A series, based on the Callahan brothers. Brothers that not only have a strong bond , but they also share their dislike of their Father.
Now each of them has served their country and are respectable men.
This is Mark’s story . He was in the military and when a member of his unit dies, the surviving ones attend the funeral. That includes Annabelle who has a history with Mark. At the funeral they realize that the death might not have been accidental and they are determined to find the killer.
While the plot is complex , filled with suspense, secrets kept from family and friends, intrigue, romance and dangerous situations, the underlying plot is even more complex.
The author shows us that the actions of a parent will affect the individual as an adult. That the death of a loved one can affect someone so deeply, that they avoid loving anyone for fear of losing that person. But also, that love and trust can and does conquer all.
I am sorry to see the series end, and in my mind have a book dedicated to John, the brother these men lost . Only a talented and gifted author can have a reader, in this case me, having those thoughts..
I was gifted this audiobook. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

*I received a free Audible copy of this book in return for an honest review.

I enjoyed this audio book very much. Mark's story is full of intrigue, a few murders, and did I mention a secret wife and a shocking ending?

Someone is killing off Mark's team. He has to team up with his estranged wife Annabelle to find out who and why. Along the way we finally learn the story of why Mark won't forgive his father, Branch. It dates back to Mark's first marriage and his wife and daughter who were killed by a drunk driver when Mark was deployed. Mark is afraid to open his heart to his wife and can't bring himself to father another child, which is what Annabelle wants - family. They file for divorce and try to move on even though they still love each other.

Lots of questions about the Callahan family are answered in this story, and a couple of new questions come to the surface. This will lead into A Callahan Christmas Carol and Angel's Rest (the beginning of the Eternity Springs series).

You won't be disappointed! The audio version is every bit as good as reading it yourself.

Another high action, high emotion tale!

These Callahan boys do not do easy romances, and this one was blistering fast from start to finish! What a rollercoaster ride this was! Mark is the last one to get his romance. He is also the most conflicted of all of them. This story has twists and turns around the twists and turns! Holy cow! Annabelle is an amazing woman and totally his match. There is too much in this story to mention. You have to read it to believe it.

The breakneck pace just sucks you into this intense story with an action oriented storyline that does not skimp on character development OR steamy scenes. The characters are vivid and can kick some butt. The ending is out of this world. Read all of the Brazos Bend books, or at least the 3 books in the Callahan Brothers Trilogy in order and prepare to be blown away! The first two have much less action, than these last three if that helps any. Enjoy!

Oh my, this third book in the Callahan Brothers series was wonderful. Mark Callahan and his now ex-wife, Annabelle Monroe were partners in a military unit that someone was trying to eliminate all the members and no one knew why. It is an exciting story of mystery and romance. Unfortunately the two of them were going to have to work together, closely, to uncover the plot before someone else was murdered. When Caidy and Mark realized that their families were being targeted, it brought the danger closer to the ones they loved. Very exciting book that you don’t want to lay down. Emily March is a Great storyteller.

There's a lot of plot twists family secrets and hurts and gathering in of family and team to fight an unknown foe. Mark is a complex character with a history and his relationships with most need improvement/ at the same time he is a likeable stubborn cuss with a loyalty to his team and the family members he has allowed to be close. I really liked the story and am finding it intriguing enough to want to read more in the series- I read the first 3. Some of the story seems improbable, but I enjoyed it none the less.

A step up

I loved Emily March's books from when she wrote under the name of Geralyn Dawson and the town was called Cedar Dell.
This book is more high-powered, with more death and destruction than the previous Callahan Brothers. It kept me on the edge of my seat, and the last page was a real cliffhanger of an ending. Everything we thought we knew turns out not to be true. I just hope I can wait until I get to the next book in the series.

This was my favorite of the Brazos Bend stories. I loved the character of Mark, who was Luke's twin brother. I also loved Annabelle. It was clear from the beginning that they were connected. But this book brought mystery with it, and it didn't disappoint. I am so glad I stumbled upon these older Emily March books!
