I bought this book and first read it more than a decade ago. I don't remember how I managed to find an authographed copy. Re-reading it I found the descriptions of Paris to be so immediate and fresh even though I know the book is more than 20 years old. For anyone in love with Paris....a great read.

A newspaper journalist took his wife and two teenage daughters to Paris for a year - lots of adventures, lots of everyday happenings ... it makes for fun reading. I picked up this book AGES ago in some out-of-the-way bookstore and was mesmerized. It was the first 1st person journal that I had read of someone chronicling a year spent somewhere in Europe. Since that time I have read some wonderful tales (Paris to the Moon, A Year in Provence, Under the Tuscan Sun, Perfume from Provence to name a few); A Paris Notebook ranks right up there with the others. I'm happy to go back to it time and again.

A compilation of 75 of Gusewelle’s newspaper columns that chronicle his acclimation to Paris life and culture during his family’s six month stay in 1984. It is humorous and entertaining, sometimes poignant. Gusewelle paints colorful pictures of his surroundings and the people and animals that share this space.

The author's writing in this book is so wonderfully rich. And he has a great, often hard to find, sense of humor. I found myself smiling at ao many parts of the book. I'm going to Paris this year, and after reading this I think I know what to expect.

I love this journal of his year in Paris with his family. I read this while I was in Italy and could easily transpose the experiences to my experiences in that beautiful country.
