FBI Code Red by Lee Gimenez is a suspenseful, intriguing novel following the exploits of J.T. Ryan and the lovely Erin Welch in the latest installment of this award-winning series. The FBI has learned of an alleged connection between the prominent Veritas Foundation and the government of China. Insiders are concerned that a uranium transaction may be in progress. Congressional investigations have led to the murder of Congressman Rodriguez and a near-hit on Elizabeth Hawkins. An underworld strongarm thug named Marco Alessi takes them to the threshold of Veritas executive David Grayson. Only the mysterious Amber Holt casts a grim shadow along their path. Fraught with danger and deception, it is a treacherous road leading to the truth only will it cost J.T. and Erin their very lives?
The author’s work reflects the accolades he has received from his contemporaries. His research brings the series to life, making us feel as if we’re behind the scenes with the movers and shakers of the shadowy world of espionage. Of particular note is the fact that Gimenez took a trip to China to validate his narrative. Going halfway around the world to make your story real is as thorough and dedicated as you can get.
Gimenez’s work also resonates with the headlines of today. As of this writing, the American President remains atop the watchtower in vigilance over the nuclear proliferation agendas of Iran and North Korea. His predecessors underwrote a deal with Russia which allowed our rival to purchase a large amount of uranium for unspecified use. We are living in a world where uranium is becoming a commodity being exchanged on markets, and works such as this suggest where this all may lead.
Suspenseful and intriguing, well-researched and highly contemporary, Lee Gimenez’s FBI Code Red is a worthy addition to anyone's library.
As the story opens, Erin Welch, the agent in charge of the FBI’s Atlanta Field office, is meeting with the FBI director in Washington, D.C. Erin is frustrated when she learns that the director has pulled the plug on yet another case. Rather than explain his actions, the director hands her a red file with the FBI logo on it. She is charged with bringing in a terrorist who has been added to the watch list, J.T. Ryan. The story then goes back to a month earlier when Erin Welch hires her friend and outside investigator, J.T. Ryan, to follow up on a tip that a certain company is laundering money. J.T. is an ace investigator with an impeccable background. He’s sometimes heavy handed, but always gets the job done. J.T. and his new assistant, Lisa, do surveillance on the Summit Corporation, but nothing happens. There’s one car in a parking lot and an office connected to what appears to be a large garage. J.T. goes in and introduces himself to the one employee of the company. She’s an older woman who knows nothing about the company and comes to work every day and sits at her desk until it’s time to leave. J.T. returns to the Summit Corporation at night and watches the building. Around three o’clock in the morning, a van and a Mercedes Benz truck pull into the large garage attached to the building. After the truck drives away, J.T. notices that it has Chinese Embassy plates on it. He blocks the driveway with his Tahoe and a gunfight erupts. The van driver escapes but leaves behind suitcases containing a hundred million dollars. J.T. turns over the money to Erin Welch and the FBI. They both are sure that they’re on to something. Computer searches by J.T.’s assistant Lisa show a connection between the Summit Corporation and a sketchy foundation called the Veritas Foundation. As J.T. shakes the bushes and makes noise, a beautiful redhead named Amber Holt is in China preparing to return to the States. She’s powerful and vicious and intends to remove J.T. from the planet. As the story unfolds, the depth of corruption in the U.S. and Chinese government comes to light. J.T. is a marked man and the FBI and other agencies are hunting him down like an animal. His only choice is to contact his friend Rachel West of the CIA. He gets to China on a forged passport and visa and then he and Rachel start putting together the pieces of the puzzle. The action and excitement in this story is non-stop. J.T. is a powerhouse surrounded by women. These women are not shrinking violets but kick-ass gals who can handle any situation. The dynamics makes the story more interesting and realistic. From the beginning to the end, this novel takes the reader on a wild ride and never lets go. This is not the first J.T. Ryan book I’ve read, and it won’t be the last. There are a handful of writers who are so good that I read their books as soon as they are published. Lee Gimenez is now one of them. He never disappoints.
Lee Gimenez writes this as a fast and furious ride. The plot is awesome. I love J.T. Ryan. He's likable, smart, gullible...not your typical character. That's why I like him and his race to stay ahead of his own employer, the FBI no less. Having been framed, his supervisor Erin Welch, helps as much as she can without losing her job. Ryan teams up with CIA agent Rachel West to prove his innocence and crack open this conspiracy. But do they want the truth? Gimenez has a knack for description. The cities and venues come to life under his eye. This is a great read.....
TJ Ryan is a PI and he and his new assistant are ready to take on cases, sometimes for the CIA, This case in particular is very scary as the goal is total control of the nation's uranium. A thought provoking tale.
