Click Click Boom (War Wolves #2) - a review by Rosemary Kenny
Following on from the success of their recent mission to ally with the Trilords, Riot and the self-named War Wolves/SPEAR team are sent on a similar mission to Planet Raydon. The Wolves still accompanied by Deborah Miller, (now regarded as a valuable team member], Ketrick and Vikta seek to negotiate a second interplanetary treaty to increase the Earth's chances of survival against fearsome enemies. Their ship has been renamed [again, this time to their satisfaction], The Valkyrie, Click Click Boom the latter part of which the Team had graffiti'd over the loathsome 'Peace Envoy 1' a week earlier. They hide groans and catcalls when Deborah suggests that as peace keepers their team/mission name should be PE-1! On reaching Raydon, piloted by Rizzo, [who's only happy when Evonne plays heavy metal rock music on the sound system], they're startled and somewhat amused, to see that the Grovothe envoys (led by Admiral Jaroth Tricon, from their home planet, Shaynar), are all 'dwarves' less than 5 feet tall! [Newly-promoted to Warrant Officer], Riot's counterpart is Major Rippa Gunna, who also has her own band of warrior-comrades, Atlas, Ragna and Brimley. Though tiny compared to Ketrick at 6 feet 7inches and even short against Riot's 5 feet 8 inches, Rippa has the heart of a lion and the attitude to back it up! In battle against the dull-witted, ant-like Zenoths they would expect easy victories, using their 20 foot-high-tech mechanoids to compensate for their lesser numbers.
What has tipped the odds in the Zenoth's favour and how is their evil manipulator related to events on Planet Hoydren? Why are Ketrick and Vikta vital allies against the Zenoths. How do Ketrick and Rippa interact and does it affect Riot? Who does Riot have to fight in single combat to the death? When does the War Wolves past experience surpass Rippa's mechanoid fire-power?
Yet again twin geniuses Jonathan Yanez and Justin Sloan have taken the reader far,far away to a galaxy populated with familiar, well-rounded and believable characters, in an all-action fight-fest that will thrill and engage you, to infinity and beyond, while having a down-to-earth budding romance between the main protagonists, leaves them and us with stars in our eyes!
This is the middle of three short but engrossing books written by a strong duo, with one having good SciFi chops and the other bringing in genuine Marine attributes to make the characters into heroes you WANT to root for! As in the other book the story line is less focused on the future tech except for how it lends itself to the mission. Because the essential truth isn't the weapons or tactics, it's the military ethos that the mission WILL be completed. And nothing stands in the way of watching out for your brother and sisters!
The indomitable spirit of the American Fighter is what counts. Duty and Honor aren't just words, they have meaning and value...
After going through bad author after bad author I ran across this series. Is it original? Nope, it uses tropes from all over. Warriors we know, aliens we immediately see in our heads, tech that doesn't need tons of explanation.
Riot and her team go about their business with ruthless efficiency interspersed with down time you won't skip over. Good fun and characters I hope fill out more in the future. The one downside is the books are short or maybe I read too fast.
This is the second great book of the War Wolves Series, and just as good as the first, and just as enjoyable a read. Our protagonists, led by (now) Warrent Officer Riot, travel the starways meeting interesting species that need a thorough thrashing. Along the way they exchange technology and make new allies. Lots of hand-to-hand combat, a hint of a possible interstellar romance and adventure await them. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED AS BOTH AN INDIVIDUAL BOOK AND AS A SERIES
This was a very humorous quick read. My favorite parts of this book were reading about Vet and his pamper issues although he is right he's always prepared. What I love the most about this series is its so overblown between dragons vs spaceships, dwarfs in mech armor, self healing nanobotes and weapons that never run outta ammo, just pick something over the top an its probably in this read somewhere. Looking forward to the next one.
Better than book #1. Still, it's a little bit juvenile. The Doctor character is not believable, and caused me to cringe. When she made comments about the team's name, I thought she was being snarky; which would have been fun, subtle humor. But no, she "jumped up and down, clapping her hands." Silly, unlikely characters detract from the story. Otherwise, fun sci-fi; with likeable tough girls, and lots of action. Even if it mimics the film, "Starship Troopers".
The Marines/War Wolves now lead by Warrant Officer Riot.
So Riot and her group plus Ketrick meet the Grovothe and helped them to destroy the Zenoth.
The Zenoth had destroyed their planet and were ready to move on to another planet. The Karnayers had come along and gave the Zenoth plans for ships and a way to get off their world.
I've read many series of books. Often they don't continue quality. That's not the case here. This one's as good as the first one. I can't wait to read the next and last of this trilogy. Thank you for Kindle Unlimited.
Much of my reading has been to deal with (escape) things in my life. Most recently, health issues. There's nothing like space Marines to help you when you're in pain. Thank you for writing such exciting stories.
This book makes me want to go on a mission with them and throw caution to the wind I'd join in thier group in a minute, what a great book! Read it twice!
It's really good to see Bubbles become a bit more of a solider and Riot become a woman. Wow, and I thought the first book was awesome. I'm looking forward to reading the next book.
You never know what will happen with these guys!! They are trying to form an alliance with a tech superior race of little people. Them have to help them keep a race of spider aliens from getting into space. What will happen next!!
As good if not better than the first, a riot to read.
The chars are growing, the action more intense and the team just got another member. Can't wait to start the next book. Pick up the series, its great read.
Riot and crew are action personified. I like the snarky characters and introduction of new characters on the same level. Typical bad guys and bug hunt but great fun.
Another page turner. New enemy and new ally. Riot and her squad meets the new threat head on and real mayhem in the process. Enjoying this space opera a lot and looking forward to more.
Fun follow up to the first one in this series. Characters are great and the book just pulls you in and before you know it you are on the last page. Highly recommend this series
whoops...totally didn't mean to read this book that fast. But, I guess that's just because it was fun and engaging and pretty focused in its action. No real crazy surprises, but it was a fun continuation of the previous book in the series (which should really be read first). Totally enjoyed it!
