It is a cliche but again I was happy to be coming home to Cedar Cove. Another safe bet after attempting a very weighty read by the name of .

This offering was centred around a murder, which does feel a bit odd in this series, but it's lightweight and meant for fun and fuzzy.

Ms Macomber has a way of presenting us with a group of characters, mostly wholesome, and if not, they're only mildly bad. Most attend church which is a funny and refreshing twist in these trying times of constant bad news. I must admit her sweet storylines are refreshing in general as it's all positive. A break from the real and less forgiving world.

A little hint of a cliffhanger was found at the end. What's really happening under the guise of the fruit basket and the cryptic postcards?! This is suspense, Macomber style!

This is a Romance/Women's Fiction/Chick-Lit, and this is the 4th book in the Cedar Cove series. Debbie Macomber is one of my favorite authors. I have watched the Cedar Cove TV shows, and I have read most of the books. I some how did not get to reading this one before. I found this one just ok. I did not love this book because I found their was no real storyline/plot. It just had drama that went no where. I did love the characters, and I was happy to be back with the Cedar Cove characters. This one was a bit more slow moving than the previous installments but it never moved into 'boring' territory for me. There was enough momentum with each story arc to keep everything going and we get answers to the mysterious man at the Thyme and Tide.

A few times I did want to shake these people... Ian's feelings and Jon's were understandable and I don't blame Olivia's brother for wanting to be careful.

Some of the 'conflict', while making sense of a sort for each situation, felt off to me. I know everything can't be sunshine and roses all of the time but these ones felt a bit contrived and overlong. A couple I felt were wrapped up too quickly.

Not too happy with a love triangle between Nate/Rachel/Bruce, hoping that resolves itself quick.

The dog/bachelor auction was fun to read/watch:) and amusing in one instance with a certain person.

I was happy with the Grace/Cliff story though, those two are perfect for each other and Charlotte's story had me smiling alot:).

The murderer of the man at the B&B wasn't a total surprise but still well done.

I was gripping the pages at one point in Bob's story, so happy when Peggy's call came through. He should tell her how close he came to going in there but maybe that's just me?

A twist at the end with Roy has me very curious as to what all that is about and what this postcard sender means.

Not a perfect addition to Cedar Cove but still a good visit :).

Now have to wait for books 5-7 from paperbackswap *waits semi patiently*

This was just an okay installment in the Cedar Cove series. I thought that Macomber often glossed over really serious issues with no real communication between couples (Cecilia and Ian; Jon and Maryellen) and that the whole mystery with Bob and Peggy was a big washout. It could only have been one person behind the whole thing so color me unsurprised by the reveal. That said, I did enjoy reading about certain events (the bachelor/dog auction was hilarious) and cracked up at Jack and Olivia having to get used to being a married couple now.

"44 Cranberry Point" takes place a few months after the events in the last book. This book focuses on Bob and Peggy Beldon who live at 44 Cranberry Point. The long married couple are still shaken by the man that came to their Bed and Breakfast and died. Finding out the man's connections to a local man who committed suicide as well as to Bob causes the couple and the local sheriff to think that someone could be out to hurt Bob as well. The Beldons decide to not allow visitors for a few months while hoping the sheriff can figure out what's going on. Per usual Macomber jumps around and catches up with previous couples and also introduces who will be upcoming couples in future books.

So I thought Bob and Peggy's story was kind of far-fetched from the extreme. As I already said above, it could only have been one person, so I was bored waiting for everyone else to catch on.

The story-lines involving Cecilia and Ian was just too much. I get why Ian was scared to have a child. But these never really discuss things, Cecilia just seduces her husband while he gets angry at her for doing so since he feels tricked into having sex with her. Yes that's an actual line in this book. I honestly wish that Macomber had actually allowed the character to be up front about being scared and also maybe saying he was worried about being gone again while his wife was pregnant. Everything is handwaved away a bit too much.

The Jon and Maryellen storyline will never not aggravate me. As readers know, Jon was sent to prison for 7 years due to his parents lying about him in order to protect his younger brother.

description

Like I don't know what people have heard, but prison is freaking terrible. Also he was innocent! And instead we have Maryellen going behind his back to talk to his parents and how upset they are that their son is bitter and has no forgiveness in his heart. I could not. If I was Jon I would have punted these two fools into the sun.

And then we also jump around to Olivia's mother's new romance, Grace still full of regrets on her romance ending with Cliff, and Olivia and Jack's new marriage. We also get introduced to a woman and man who I am sure are going to be subjects in future books.

The writing was typical Macomber, mostly fade to black for the love scenes. And a lot of talk about love and forgiveness. I wonder now why Macomber doesn't push herself out there into Christian romance more, but I guess the whole having sex before marriage like some of the characters do or did would be frowned upon.

The flow was actually not that great this time through. I think Macomber was trying to juggle too many things and it showed. It should have really focused more on Peggy and Bob, with maybe some of Olivia and Jack's frustrations at living together. A little of Grace would have been good too, but instead it was jam-packed with people and not enough time to focus on everyone's plots.

I always love the sound of the town of Cedar Cove. It always sounds lovely and full of good and hard working people.

The ending of the book leaves things on a cliffhanger though with a private investigator and his wife who just moved to town a few months earlier.

I thoroughly enjoyed coming back and rereading this book after a number of years. It was a good one. I really enjoyed the storyline with Grace and Cliff. I was sorry to see friction between Cecelia and Ian, as well as between Olivia and Jack. It was great to be back with all of the Cedar Cove characters. Love this series!

"44 Cranberry Point", the fourth book in Debbie Macomber's Cedar Cove series, focuses mainly on solving the mystery of the man who died while staying at Bob and Peggy Beldon's Bed and Breakfast. Cedar Cove in general is excited about a "dog and bachelor" auction fundraiser, but several of the residents also have other things on their mind. Jon Bowman and Maryellen Sherman are in love and have a child, but disagree about Jon's relationship with his parents. Grace Sherman is still dealing with the consequences of her on-line romance with Will Jefferson, and wondering if Cliff Harding will ever forgive her. Newly married Olivia and Jack Griffin are struggling to adapt to each other's lifestyles - she's a neat freak and he's a slob, plus she worries about his eating habits. And who is sending Roy McAfee those mysterious messages?

Out of the four books I've read so far in Debbie Macomber's Cedar Cove series, I liked this one the best. I enjoyed the plot line about the man who died while staying at the B & B, although the identity of the murderer was pretty obvious. Macomber does a great job describing Bob Beldon's struggle with alcoholism, especially at one point when he almost gives in to his cravings. Other characters are equally well written especially Jon Bowman and his troubled relationship with his parents. Macomber introduces several new characters and sets up an interesting love triangle between hairdresser Rachel, single dad Bruce, and navy man Nate, who has a girlfriend back home. Finally, she ends the book with a cliffhanger, which makes me want to immediately pick up the next book in the series.

"44 Cranberry Point" is a nice, cozy read.

Book 4 in the Cedar Cove series focuses on Bob and Peggy Beldon, owners of the Thyme & Tide B&B. After Bob's Vietnam buddy is found dead in one of their guest rooms, the Beldon's are worried about Bob's safety. They don't know who killed Max (the war Vet) and aren't sure if an incident that happened long ago in the military has come back to haunt him. When Max's distraught daughter arrives on their doorstop searching for shelter answers, Peggy welcomes her and they try to solve the mystery.
In addition to the Beldon's, we continue to follow other Cedar Cove staples like Grace, Olivia, Charlotte and Mary Ellen. Once again, Macomber spends a lot of time rehashing previous books. While I enjoyed certain sections of this book, the mystery was not hard to figure out and I became bored with Bob and Peggy's narrative.

Recommend: NO, skip to the next book, Macomber rehashing all the important details so you won't miss much

44 Cranberry Point is the fourth novel in the Cedar Cove series by Debbie Macomber. Olivia and Grace and all our favourite locals in Cedar Cove make an appearance. Olivia returns from her honeymoon with Jack and tries to adjust to married life. Grace goes all out to win back Cliff Harding after having lost his trust. Maryellen and Jon tie the knot, and there’s another surprise wedding.. The mystery of the man who died at the Thyme and Tide B&B is finally solved, but another mystery, this time involving Roy and Corrie McAfee, develops. The Cedar Cove series continues to leave the reader feeling satisfied: another Macomber classic.

Bob and Peggy Beldon run the Thyme and Tide bed and breakfast in Cedar Cove. Things have been weird since a man died in their home. Turns out the dead man has unique connections to a couple of folks in Cedar Cove - which makes a cozy-type mystery to be played out in this novel.

Bob receives mysterious postcards. He had no idea who could be sending him these cryptic messages.

Grace is still upset about her unwanted breakup with Cliff. Can she win him back? She's sorry about the online love affair she's had with Will, her best friend, Olivia's brother.

Meanwhile, Olivia still tries to get her husband, Jack, to slow down. He's a workaholic and they should be spending more time together. She also attempts to get him to improve his eating habits.

This book reminded me of a movie script or a TV show instead of a novel. There were lots of characters. I suppose that's why they made a TV show from this series of novels.

SPOILERS**SPOILERS**SPOILERS**SPOILERS**SPOILERS**SPOILERS**

I have read all the books in this series up to this point and a few things are very clear:

1. None of Macomber's characters have a clue how to talk to each other. In this book, we're treated to marital troubles between Olivia/Jack, Mary Ellen/John, and Ian/Cecilia. All of the troubles presented could have easily been solved with a little communication between the characters. It's so irritating to be reading about their troubles and thinking "For God's sake, have a conversation! Talk to each other!"

2. Olivia's treating Jack like a child was really annoying. She's trying to get him on a healthy eating plan and says things like "It's for his own good!" UM...he's not a child and perhaps you're having marital problems because you treat him like one! You knew who and how he was before you married him. What's your problem now? For a family law judge, she sure is an idiot when it comes to marriage.

3. It really bothered me the direction Macomber went in with Grace and Cliff. So, Cliff tells her he doesn't want to see her anymore and Grace's solution to this is to send daily e-mails and twice-a-week cards?? So when a man tells you he doesn't want to see you anymore what you clearly need to do is stalk him??

4. I knew who the killer was before this book even began. That was incredibly easy to figure out if you're paying attention at all.

I don't know why I keep reading this series, probably because every book leaves you hanging so I have to keep reading the next to find out what happens.
Nothing really happened in this book and it focused on most of the characters that I don't really like.
It seems like the people in this town are oblivious to everything and everybody around them, until something is spelled out for them. And every married character wants to end their marriage as soon as they have a fight with their spouse.

Still...

Totally in love with this series. Macomber is amazing with how she weaves these stories together. The silly moments, sad ones, and anxious ones fill the pages as the lives of the Cedar Cove residents are spilled before us.

This was an incredible read. I am disappointed that I did not see how the wedding actually went between Olivia and Jack, but at least they are married now. In this instalment, we see main characters of the first book return as we get reintroduced to Cecilia and Ian Randall. The story also introduces us to a new couple, Bob and Peggy Beldon, who own an bed and breakfast. The story is beautiful and I am happy that we get to see more of what happens in their lives. I can’t wait to see how the series grows and develops. Now it is time to go onto book 5 called 50 Harbor Street. Overall, an amazing read.

A number of Debbie’s books are being released this year in e-book format and audio. I have read a few in the Cedar Cove series, so not reading them in order. These could be standalone books; however, it would be ideal to read in series order as you will find a number of the familiar characters mentioned in the books. Hallmark Channel will feature Debbie Macomber’s Cedar Cove Series which I plan on checking out.

In 44 Cranberry Point, Olivia, Grace, Jack, Cliff, Bob, Peggy and all the family and friends are back after 311 Pelican Court and the continuation of the murder investigation at the B&B. The book discloses the murder’s identify and more. Pretty predictable, and light reading of small town with colorful characters.

Not much really happened in this book. We did find out at the very end who killed the man in the B&B, but that's about it. Otherwise it felt like no big revelations in the book, just setting stuff up for the next one... like Cecilia's pregnant again and Roy is getting mysterious messages. Very little of Charlotte in this one. So far, this book was the least interesting of the series. Everything was familiar, it just moved so slowly and felt like nothing really was happening. The bachelor auction was interesting but it felt like not much happened with it either. Felt rather... ho hum. lol

It seems like there is never a dull moment in Cedar Cove. This installment is a little more exciting than some, since it has a mysterious death murder? in it. But there is still the requisite amount of sappy romance included in the story for those readers who like that sort of thing. However, much of the book involves the ongoing complicated relationships of the characters, and these story threads hold much of this series appeal.

This series continues to be marginally interesting and somewhat politically problematic. I enjoy finding out what happens to the characters and I like most of them, but the fact that the story lines are both repetitive between books such that sometimes nothing much happens and also that there are so many story lines that each one is thin is frustrating at best.

I enjoy the TV show and like the characters. The conflicts are sometimes "trying" and you want to shake some sense into people, but otherwise these are uncomplicated, lighthearted romances that read very easily.

Synopsis:

Peggy Beldon
Thyme and Tide B and B
44 Cranberry Point
Cedar Cove, Washington

Dear Reader,

I love living in Cedar Cove, but things haven't been the same since a man died in our B and B. Turns out his name was Max Russell, and Bob had known him briefly in Vietnam. We still don't have any idea why he came here and--most important of all--who killed him. Because it now appears that he was poisoned. I sure hope somebody figures it out soon!

Not that we're providing the only news in Cedar Cove these days. I heard that Jon Bowman and Maryellen Sherman are getting married. And Maryellen's mom, Grace, has more than her share of interested men! The question is: Which one is she going to choose? Olivia--I guess it's Olivia Griffin now--is back from her honeymoon, and her mother, Charlotte (who's in her mid-seventies at least), seems to have a man in her life, too. I'm not sure Olivia's too pleased....

There's lots of other gossip I could tell you. Come by for a cup of tea and one of my blueberry muffins and we'll talk.

Peggy

This is number four in Macomber's Cedar Cove series. The story picks up pretty much where it left off- new marriages are blossoming, friendships growing, but more importantly, mysteries still unsolved. Peggy and Bob have been struggling since a man called Max turned up in the night to stay at their B&B, and died . It was later found out it was murder. They just want this solved. There are other things going on too, such as the Navy boys returning to their families and Grace trying to get over losing Cliff.

I love Macomber's novels. They are pure and simple chick-lit. This story was full of life, love, friendship and family. But with this series there is a slight twist - Macomber has added in the idea of mystery. In this book, and the previous one: 311 Pelican Court, the mystery surrounds this man Max, his death and his connection to Bob. In the next book the mystery will be surrounding Ray, the Private Investigator. I like this addition to the novel. Macomber writes great novels anyway but this just adds something special and lifts it out of the bog-standard chick-lit genre.

Macomber also writes wonderful characters. I love Olivia, Grace, Peggy and the like. Their friendships are special and reading about their families and events in their lives is great fun. I find them believable and I wish they were real! They are full of wisdom - the kind of older female friends one would want to have around for friendship and guidance.

Yes this is a fairly predictable story, and the murderer wasn't much of a surprise but I enjoyed this book. It was a nice novel that I read in 24 hours. Like the rest of Macomber's books, this comes with high praise from me.

This is the 4th book in the Cedar Cove series. I enjoyed learning more about the lives of the inhabitants of Cedar Cove. The 3rd book left the cliff hanger of who killed Maxwell Russell. I am glad we finally find out at the end of this book who it was. I was quite surprised by it. I didn't see it coming even though I should have. I just wish it didn't take the whole book to find out. This book is leaving us with more cliff hangers. I think the most strangest and exciting one is going to be why and who is sending strange messages to Roy and Carrie. I hope it doesn't take the whole next book again to find out.

I am looking forward to reading book 5 in the series. I want to see how the other residents of Cedar Cove continue with their lives. There a lot of questions to be answered. At this point I feel like I live in Cedar Cove which I wouldn't mind living in.

I am so glad I have a list of all the characters in the book and little notes about them. It gets confusing after a while especially since the different subplots intertwine with one another. Each chapter concentrates on one at a time. Just when you are really getting into the subplot, it switches over to another and doesn't show up again until chapters later. So there is a lot of switching back and forth. Quite a few books by different authors use the same technique. I am not sure if I like that but I am compelled to finish reading this series. First because it is now a television series and I am hooked.

Several story lines were wrapped up in 44 Cranberry Point leaving just two remaining unresolved for the next book in the series. The ones I'm the most happy about are...

Grace, mostly because that story line was way overdue for a resolution, even though Grace was a little like a stalker the way she kept sending the postcards and letters to Cliff after he broke things off with her. I broke up with someone once and they did that to me. It did not make me want to see them again, it had the opposite effect. Also wrapped up was the story of the man that died at the Thyme and Tide. We finally find out who killed him and it came as no surprise to me who did it.

The story I was least happy about was the one involving Cecelia and Ian. I was not crazy about revisiting them. Cecelia as a character really bothers me. The fact that she completely disregarded her husbands feelings on having another child bothered me greatly. This is not the way to a healthy marriage, even if this books wants to make it seem like it is.

The communication issues between all the couples featured in this book were annoying. Olivia treated Jack like a child instead of an intelligent man and it was disappointing that their relationship has become so unpleasant to read about so quickly.

That being said, I'll be starting the next book soon because I'm hooked.

CD/abridged audio: What a disappointment. Did Ms. Macomber phone this story into her publisher?

First, let me say that I've listened to some of the Blossom Street series out of order and I liked it.

It is flat. The characters are one-dimensional. The plot line of pregnancy overlaps between too many characters. Either they are trying to get pregnant, secretly pregnant, miscarrying, or tricking their husbands to get them pregnant. With the characters having such common names and there being too many characters, the audio becomes too confusing. Evan, Grace, Roy, Peggy....name someone Roxanne or Thor!

I didn't care about the murdered dude. I didn't care if the other guy ever talked to his parents. I didn't care about the stalker. I didn't care about the chick and her old boyfriend. Or the guy cheating on his wife. There were ten other things happening and I can't think of what they are...and I just finished it.

I felt cheated because there are only five discs instead of the usual six. However, by disc four, I couldn't wait for the bland narrative to end. Then on disc five, I was close to the end and wondering if I was missing a disc (?). Nope, the stupid book ends like a Flash Gordon serial! No ending! Unforgivable.

Olivia Lockhart, Grace Sherman and their family and friends are back in this fourth installment of the Cedar Cove series. 44 Cranberry Point picks up where 311 Pelican Court ended. Bob and Peggy Beldon find themselves in the middle of a murder investigation and are shocked when they learn the killer’s identity and the motive for the murder.

Ms. Macomber continues the stories of the popular characters: Olivia and her mother, Charlotte, Grace and her daughters, Jack Griffin and Cliff Harding. New characters are introduced as well. If you’ve read the previous novels in the series, you will feel right at home with 44 Cranberry Point.

I do like with each book, more is revealed about each character. It’s as though the reader is getting to know a new friend. At times the storyline is predictable, however it doesn’t diminish the reading enjoyment. If you are interested in reading this series, I suggest reading them in order as each book flows from one to the other.
