Embraced By A Highlander by Donna Fletcher is book Two in the "Highland Warriors" Series. This is the story of Hannah MacFillan and Slain MacKewan. I have read the previous book (and loved it!) and feel you might enjoy this one more if you do too, but with that said this can be a standalone book. Hannah now free but knowing she has to hide ends up with Slain the savage. Slain's own clan fear him and with his dark secrets it might not be such a bad thing. Hannah thinking to stay safe from one monster would be to stay with another monster. Slain is instantly attracted to and drawn to Hannah but he doesn't have time for her as a distraction. But neither can stop themselves from their feelings growing. This was such an exciting story...I could not put it down.
I can never put into words how much I love Ms. Fletcher's writing....she is just simply the best!

In a word: worthwhile

This is the second installment in the Highland Warriors trilogy that focus on three mighty warriors ("Beast," "Savage," & "Demon") that are equal parts revered and feared throughout Scotland. This book is about Savage, aka Slain MacKewan, the reclusive chieftain of his clan. Slain blames another clan leader for the demise of his clan while the "Savage" was away fighting for Scotland and his father was the clan chieftain. His father was not known for his intelligence (that was his mother's strength, but she had recently passed); thus, he was swindled by an opportunist, leaving his clan practically impoverished and vulnerable to attack by neighboring not-so-friendly rivals. Upon his return from battle, Slain has stayed hidden away in the castle plotting his revenge and is rarely seen by the people under his protection. When the villagers do have interaction with the Savage, it is often not pleasant; they fear him but know he will do all he can to protect them.

Hannah has recently escaped a brutal, wrongful captivity, and she seeks the protection of a strong clan leader. Upon her arrival to the village, she is given some food by some of the women, and then they ask her to take on what is considered to be an unpleasant task: working in the castle for the chief (and his very demanding head of household). As she has nowhere to go, Hannah agrees, and she is soon living in a castle with many mysteries, one of which is her true identity.

What I liked:
- Intriguing plot line
- Mysterious laird
- Damaged yet still strong heroine

What I didn't like as much:
- A little too "instalove" for someone considered to not have feelings
- I didn't feel like what Slain was doing was fully explained (why he was so secretive about what he was making) --- possibly something that is explored further in the final installment

Overall, this was another excellent and worthwhile read from Donna Fletcher!

Plot --- 4/5
Main Characters --- 4.5/5
Supporting Cast --- 3.5/5
Steam Level --- 2.5/5
Violence --- some (not graphic)
Language --- minimal
POV --- 3rd throughout

Hannah is a woman running from evil, she’s hiding in the only place her tormentor would never expect her to be.....THE SAVAGE’S lair!
She’s seen torture and was tortured in the Demons torture prison. She needs to have a place of security, when the women of the MacKewan clan let her know of a position in their lairds home she’s ready to make it work no matter what the repercussions.
Slain MacKewan has no time for women they serve only one purpose, to satisfy his needs until he sets eyes on the red headed woman who dared entered his keep. She’s not like the rest of them she shows no fear of him, and that has him wanting her, she’ll be perfect for his plans when he sets them into motion. His goal is destruction of his enemy, the man that cost him everything he held close to his heart. He never expected that Hannah and his enemy were closely intertwined! Secrets and evil will battle for destruction of the weaker, can the love that Slain and Hannah found in each other survive the ultimate test?

Slain and Hannah have sizzling chemistry and I loved their banter. Loved Hannah the lady has backbone she doesn’t back down no matter the situation, she’s spunky and curious to reveal what secrets Slain keeps from her. Slain is a tortured man he keeps his heart well protected but Hannah wormed her way into his heart and now he’ll do anything to protect her.
Donna Fletcher keeps the tension going with descriptive detail. This is a fast paced book that will definitely keep you reading well into the night! Hot sexy highlander and the woman who tamed him is a winner for me!

I was gifted a copy from the author for my honest unbiased opinion.

Donna Fletcher can sure weave a brilliant story.

Once again I am in love with a new release by Donna Fletcher and can't wait until Warrick and Adara's story. There is still so much mystery surrounding what really happened at Warrick's and I can't wait to find out.

Wonderful story and such great characters. Slain was terrific and so was Hannah as well as a few of the secondary characters, I had a guess that Warrick would be the next book to read, sounds like it will be another winner! Donna Fletcher is another one of my favourite writers.

Rene's Thoughts:

I haven't read a highlander novel in a while, so it was fun to step back into that world. Fletcher always creates complex characters who despite being in a historical period feel very modern and relatable.

This novel had several of the troupes usually found in Fletcher's novels, but instead of seeming repetitive this novel felt different. You had the usuals such as a heroine who's being targeted for murder, mountains of secrets between the couple, spies and enemies, not to mention questionable paternity. However, there was little forced or contrived drama within the narrative.

I really liked Hannah's character from the very beginning, she was tough, smart, and not prone to doing stupid shit - for the most part. Unlike some of her predecessors, I never yelled at her while reading, for something she was doing. Hannah made the most of situation she found herself in, and never complained. She exemplified the motto "Keep Calm and Carry On"!

Slain, the savage, is not someone who you want to be on their bad-side! He has a rough exterior, but like every swoon-worthy hero he's a total sweetheart to his lady. I also loved how Slain was mysterious, and how every time you learned something new about him you wanted to know more.

As a couple Slain and Hannah were great, they both needed each other and in that way were very much equals. They had similar life goals, love and family, and were completely suited for one another.

One of my favorite things about this novel, was how sexual Hannah was. She may have been a virgin when she met Slain, but she enjoyed sex and wasn't afraid to incite intimacy with him!

Happy Reading!

I received a copy of this book from the author for my honest review. The second book in the Highland Warriors trilogy introduces us to Hannah and Slain. Hannah is running from danger and what better place to hide from your own family, then to hide with their enemies. When she arrives on MacKewan land she looking for shelter, she is quickly volunteered for the keep. All the ladies seem to be afraid of the woman that is running the keep along with the Master. When she arrives, she finds a dark and dismal place with as many secrets as her, but if she can find sanctuary here she will. No one can ever know who she is and what she is running from.

Slain is drawn to the red head beauty that has shown up at his castle. It has been a long time since he has been drawn to a female like he is her. When he saves her from a fall he finds himself ready to protect her and keep her for himself. Can he use her to fulfill one of his commitments? And is he willing to expose her to the Savage? As the days go by he finds that he cannot resist her and when he finds out her secret, he is determined to protect and keep her at all costs.

Great story about two people that don't trust easily. As they fall in love you see them struggling with keeping secrets from each other. Hannah tames the Savage in Slain, while Slain provides Hannah with the strength to face up to those who would do her harm. Can't wait for the next installment in this series.

Even his own clan feared Slain MacKewan. He had lots of dark secrets and planned to revenge the evil done to his family. When Hannah shows up and volunteers to help at the keep he didn’t realize what changes she had brought with her to his life.

I love Donna Fletcher’s books. I haven’t read one yet that wasn’t so hard to put down and didn’t want it to end. This story did not disappoint, as the plot was smooth and seamless, strong and interesting. There were lots of twists, turns and many secrets. The story pulls the reader in on page 1 and doesn’t let you go until “The End. This is a story of evil, betrayal, lies and loss but also of strength, honor, devotion and love. The characters were well developed, strong and I loved both the H & H right from the start. The descriptions of the land, people and situations make you feel like you are right there in their world. Donna Fletcher definitely is a master at a Highlander story as it is evident she has done her research into the life and times of a Scottish Highlander. I very anxiously await the next book. I received an ARC for an honest review.

Embraced by a Highlander by Donna Fletcher
Highland Warriors Trilogy Book Two
Slain MacKewan aka the savage has much to do, it's not the best time for a woman in his life. But, there is one in his keep all the same. To solve one of his problems...he'll take advantage of her being there. Yet, he'll keep his secrets to himself...just as he knows that Hannah is keeping secrets from him.

Hannah MacFillan needs to hide after escaping her months of torture. The other women she escaped with had to go their own ways. Just as she had to go where she wouldn't be found. The home of the enemy. It would take a monster to protect her from other monsters. The question was; how far would she go to stay safe?

Loved the story. The story started in To Love a Highlander, as the heroine in book one helps two other women escape, one of which is Hannah. Several characters in the story are keeping secrets...and that never ends well. Looking forward to how the author can redeem the last character, Warrick, in the final book, Highlander: The Demon Lord.

4 stars ( 5/4 stars Margaret Mallory, Julie Johnstone, Monica McCarty, Lynsay Sands, Donna Fletcher)

4 stars: This book was good, worth reading in a few days. It hit pretty much most of my personal markers for a good read and well roundness of the book. my personal markers for a great read...1. smart and engaging writing, 2. Humorous, 3. sexy interactions and 4. stories with family/friends.

The development and interest in main characters and Secondary characters was enjoyable. It kept me wanting to know and read more.

Laugh out loud with humorous moments. The give and take dialogue was wonderful as well as action.

I loved the writing around the women empowerment (it wasn’t over the top for me). Badass women rock.

Movement of the book flowed for the most part. Book writing/conversation engaging. Not a lot of historical accuracy (no big deal to me), not a lot of internal character dialogue and not a lot of descriptive scenery written out.

Romantic /sexual content (kissing, oral and love making scenes) was throughout the book. Nothing over the top and was intertwined rightly in the story telling. 3/5 rating hotness and steam.

Recommend book and looking forward to series.

I received a review copy of this book from the author.
This is another win for Donna Fletcher! I am always excited to read her books, and this was no different. I appreciate that her heroes are flawed and Slain is very flawed. Everyone calls him Savage, but I like that Hannah doesn’t seem to let that bother her. She is strong and independent, and relatable. That doesn’t always translate across centuries but Donna does it again and make me think I could be friends with Hannah if we lived in the same century! After reading this one, I am very excited to read the final installment of this trilogy!

This definitely deserves more than 5 stars!

I honestly thought after Donna Fletcher's Cree and Dawn series no other would come close to being my favorite, but Slain MacKewan and Hanah are right up there. Embraced by the Highlander is a definite keeper for me!

This is book two in this new series and it is my favorite! Of the two stories, this one was by far the best. Now I wish that after Warrick's story which I'm assuming is the next in the series, that this author return to Slain and Hannah to continue their Saga. They are just as good as Cree and Dawn.

Now, I look forward to Warrick's story!! I hope it comes out soon and is not delayed months and months.

So many secrets.

Slain the Savage, is basically a recluse living alone in his castle with a staff of one. Hannah recently escaped the dungeon of Warrick and was seeking safety the one place she knew her father and step-brother would never suspect; with the Savage. She started as a servant in the castle but quickly caught Slain’s attention and he caught hers. So many secrets on both sides kept this story exciting and suspenseful. Both afraid that their love would end when the secrets were revealed. This was a really good book. I like the first book in the series better but this one is definitely read worthy as well. Can’t wait to read the next one.

A wonderful read! The 2nd book in the series was so good, it was hard to put down. Hannah is running for her life after her step brother sold her and told their father she ran away. Hannah ends up in a village that needed someone to work in the castle with their Chief Slain, known as the Savage! He is a Warrior like no other and he protects what is his. Since the death of his parents all is has been after is revenge. When Hannah comes to work in the Castle she starts to thaw the Savages heart. A powerful story about love and revenge.

I loved this book! I have to say I loved the story from start to finish. Slain is so dark and secretive but you know there is more to him than that. I loved that both had secrets and it took love and trust for them to come out. This book is full of intrigue and romance. I loved both Hannah and Slain. I have always enjoyed Donna Fletchers books and this one did not disappoint! I can’t wait to read Warwick’s story next! I would definitely recommend this book.

Another quick read. Not a bad book. I liked it.
My only gripe is for someone called The Savage, Slain was not really savage like to me. He was standoffish and abrupt in the beginning, but he got over that pretty quickly and fell in love with his wife soon after. The next book is Warrick, "The Demon" and supposed to be the worst of the three. We shall see 👀😂
