Book four in Katie Reus Redemption Harbor series is one of the strongest, and after finding the last offering a little steadier than its predecessors, Innocent Target sets things right back on track.

description I kill people for a living.

What did come from book three was the introduction of Brooks sister, Hadley so for her to have her story told so quick was a treat. And having a huge protective extended family around her is about to prove an advantage as it becomes evident that someone wants her dead.

description I…don’t want to be someone you regret.

Sometimes a H/h need to fall hard and fast and this was exactly one of those occasions as Axel realises that Hadley is the one contract he doesn’t want. And with a good dose of humour coming courtesy of her big brother playing his role perfectly as well as plenty of steamy moments as they get to know one another, Hadley and Axel quickly shaped up to be my favourite couple of the series so far.

description I think I fell a little in love with you when you spilled coffee on me.

Looking forward to book five!

5 - "I... kill people for a living..." Stars!

We return to Redemption Harbor for book four in the series; Innocent Target giving newcomer Hadley Lane her special someone. Her brother Brooks Alexander has featured in the story-lines since the beginning, but his knowledge of his sister was only revealed in the previous book Dangerous Witness, where he was delivered his own action packed Happily-Ever-After.

Someone wanted her dead He hadn’t figured out who yet. Whoever it was, was a dead man walking

This is a story where the enemy becomes the protector in that Axel O’Sullivan is initially one of the Hit-men for hire, who have been tasked with taking Hadley, and delivering her to an unknown enemy, an enemy whose plan becomes more clear as the story progresses as the author gives his POV too.

He wanted to know everything about this woman with the sweet smile and the adorable dimple

But that soon changes when he realizes just how innocent Hadley is. There connection over spilt coffee, soon deepens to more, and Axel knows that in order for things to progress further he needs to be honest with her about who he is, and his motivations for being in Redemption Harbor.

He life was lonely. And she was the bright spot he was soon going to lose Because in the reality he lived in, no way did they end up together

I think this may be my favorite book of the series so far, because although everything between them happened super-quick, and their connection was 100% ‘insta, I loved them as a couple, and although the less experienced one of the pair, Hadley wasn’t shy in showing Axel exactly what she wanted from him.

"I don’t want to be someone you regret."

There were a few giggles when Brooks goes alpha-protective older brother, but Axel stood up to him, and his integration with the rest of the Redemption Harbor team was a really good fit too.

All-in-all another great addition to the series, and I look forward to reading more from it in the future.

ARC generously provided by the author, and it was as it always is, my pleasure to provide the above honest review.

I loved the first two books in the Redemption Harbor series, but I found Dangerous Witness to be slow going at times. However, I’m way back into the series after really liking Innocent Target. I fell hook, line and sinker for Axel. He was so totally in to Hadley and was even prepared to walk away if that’s what she needed. He was all alpha protective, caring and hot without being an a*hole.

Hadley’s a lot younger than Axel (10 years) but is an old soul. She didn’t have the best of childhoods and had to learn to stand on her own two feet from a young age. She’s sweet, strong and definitely not stupid .... no TSTL here! They both fell for each other hard, with no pushing away or living in denial.

This is a fairly fast read, KR brought all the suspense and action with some awesome cameos from Skye, Colt and Gage. Which brings me to Gage’s book I can’t WAIT to see what transpires there! I’m thinking he’s got his work cut out for him.

When someone is out to kidnap and torture Hadley, Axel immediately steps in. Just a look at her picture is enough to send his protective instincts into overdrive. Once he meets her face to face, he’s completely gone for the sweet innocent woman who is in a madman’s crosshairs.

Hadley had a rough upbringing and now that she’s met her brother and father she’s finding a contentment she never knew, even if they are a bit overprotective. When she spills coffee on a handsome stranger she immediately feels attraction to him, not knowing that he’s been monitoring her actions. As they become closer Hadley has stars in her eyes not realizing that Axel is keeping a deep dark secret from her. One that has the potential to rip her heart out.

I loved Axel so much! He was so totally in it with Hadley. Every step he took, every decision he made was to keep her as long as he could before the inevitable would happen. Once his secret was revealed there was no way she would want to be with him and my heart hurt at his assurance that all would be over when that day came. And that day must come soon, and he’s the one who must reveal all his secrets to her, quickly. That was just additional angst to an already fraught situation.

Hadley was so sweet. She deserved all the goodness life could offer and she has fought hard to become something more. When things take a drastic turn she never loses her control. She may not be able to physically take down a threat, but she keeps her emotions in check and handles each change in her perceptions with a strength that was compelling to read about. She was the perfect woman for Axel and together they were amazing.

Each book in this series has gotten better and Innocent Target is no exception. Definitely my favorite of the group at this point. Axel and Hadley both checked all my boxes for a great hero and heroine. This is a fast paced read with lots of action, well developed secondary characters that added to the plot rather than bog it down, so much steam you’re going to need a fan, and an ending that will leave you with a happy and contented sigh.

Axel became disillusioned with the justice system and the endless politics and greedy ambitions of the higher ups when he was working for the FBI. That’s how he found himself quitting and becoming a killer for higher. But as messed up as it is, Axel has a code, never harm innocents and only take out the bad guys.

When his contact sends him a file, in the hopes that he’ll intervene, Axel takes one look at Hadley and all his protective instincts demand he protect her. He doesn’t know why someone would set out to hurt her but he pulls all the stops to keep her safe. The plan was simple, keep her safe and alert her and her family to the unknown threat and leave. But the more time he spends with Hadley, the more Axel can’t fight his feelings for her.

His whole life was about secretes, but he didn’t want to have any from her.

Hadley is still settling into the idea of no longer being alone. Now she has a doting father and an affectionate if a bit overprotective brother in her life and more friends than she ever thought possible. Things are finally looking up for her, until she almost gets kidnapped and then rescued all in one harrowing night.

There was something so sexy and, okay, a little fierce about him that turned her on.

I am in love with this series and loved Hadley and Axel. They were sweet, funny and perfect for each other. This was a pretty insta-love story that had very likable MCs and a little bit of everything to keep things interesting. There was action, suspense, some mystery, great supportive characters and a steamy romance between two awesome characters. I loved seeing a bit of all the previous couples in the series, especially Sky and Cole. Can’t wait for Gage and Nova’s story next!

Memorable Moment:
My favorite moment has to be when Axel finds himself texting with Hadley and catches himself sending an emoji, LOL! It was too cute :) I loved seeing how Hadley’s positivity rubbed off on him. He’d been living so long in the gray but Hadley brought him lightness and reminded him that love and goodness still existed.

The second best moment is actually when Sky meets Axel she was just so funny and protective of Hadley but also kind of a matchmaker when it came to Axel. It was a really funny scene.

Would I recommend?
For fans of this series it was another solid addition. I'd recommend and it can be read as a standalone but does have past couples/characters making appearances.

This was just too easy. The suspense was not exciting. The romance was too sedate and they didn’t really have to overcome anything. I love this author and the series started off great. But I have not found it to be her best. But I will keep reading!

We met Hadley, Brooks half-sister, at the end of the last book. Axel is a killer for hire, but in this case he on it to save Hadley. Axel was sweet, as well as hot and sexy and smart and overall a great guy. He didn't run away when Brooks confronted him, but stood his ground and fought for Hadley. I thought the bad guy was going to be nastier than he turned out to be. What a wimp. Loved seeing all the gang again.

When I read the blurb on this book I knew this one was going to be my favorite of the series. I love the idea of a contract killer falling for a target. Already being a fan of Katie Reus and her Alpha's, I knew she would do this particular story line justice.

If you have never read this author before, she doesn't go very dark in her series. While the hero is a contract killer, he is still very much a good guy. He's just lost faith in the system and has taken it into his own hands to bring down the bad guys.

Hadley is a fairly new character to the series. We got introduced to her in the previous book when she approached Brooks letting him know she was his half sister. Her mom kept her from her father and Brookes growing up and is just now getting to know them.

Hadley isn't from the world that Axel, her brother and all the other characters in this series are from. She's still young and somewhat naive but she gets a fast introduction into their dangerous world when she becomes the target.

This is an awesome series and I'm looking forward to the next book. ARC provided by NetGalley.

I’ve always liked Katie Reus’s Redemption Harbor series and the fact that they’re standalones are pretty enticing. ‘Innocent Target had been on my to-read list for a long time and when I finally settled down for Axel/Hadley’s story, it wasn’t hard to get sucked into the plot, apart from the rather odd beginning that had me stumbling a little. The hit man who falls for his target is another ‘taboo trope all on its own and it’s one I’ve always wished to read more of.

The appealing bit about Reus’s couples is pretty much the maturity they show (and that’s quite a consistent and much-appreciated trait in her books), regardless of age and that the conflict that you think is coming to a head from afar is pretty much resolved in a way that’s unexpected but so welcome. That they communicate reasonably is a huge draw for me, along with how much they fight for each other once they decide that they want more of this relationship growing between them. Axel/Hadley is a pairing that falls comfortably within this Reus-writing-matrix, and this much I can say: Reus goes all in with them: no regrets, no turning back, which is as always, a wholly refreshing change when the push-pull vibe in romancelandia seems to be the primary objects in so many books.

I wasn’t entirely comfortably with the instalove however; falling in love over an ‘accidental coffee spill pushed the envelope too far for me, along with the frustrating switches in POVs to other characters than just the protagonists which had me skimming in parts. The clichéd protective big brother role felt a little much too, though given Axel’s past, I imagine it’s more justified than in other cases where big brothers are almost expected to be arses…just because.

Still, ‘Innocent Target is a solid addition to the series—my rating just reflects my own personal quibbles about it—and I’m already looking to see what Reus will tackle next.

Innocent Target by Katie Reus

He thinks she is adorable. Everything from the dimple in her smile, to her sweet innocence and clear want in her eyes. Even the silly pajamas with the dogs all over them is adorable.
He will change who he is for her. “He’d been drowning for a long time in his own loneliness and meeting Hadley had been like seeing the light. Because that’s what she was, a light in the darkness.
Not that she’s asking for him to change.

A romantic suspense novel. 4th in the Redemption Harbor series. Can be read as a stand alone but don’t miss the others.
I’m so looking forward to reading the next book. Fantastic adventures and series.
These are not “nice men, but they are good and they will do anything to protect their family.

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley. I have also purchased a copy to gift.

Innocent Target continues the Redemption Harbor series and brings everything I love about Katie Reus. You get peeks into the characters from previous books, creating a 'family' for characters. You get danger. You get romance. What more could I want in a book? There is a reason Reus is one of my go to authors!

Hadley has just moved to Redemption Harbor to be close to her new found family when she is attacked in a parking lot at school. Turns out, someone wants her dead and Axel was given the job. These two meet but Hadley doesn't know exactly who Axel is or what he does.

I was surprised at how vulnerable Axel seemed at times. He is a badass but there are these flashes of insecurity or something that pop up once in awhile. I thought it made him seem more real. Hadley was sweet and likable; not my favorite heroine, but she was still enjoyable. Skye and Colt play a big part of the story (given their history with special operations and such) attempting to find out who is targeting Hadley. Brooks is obvious a large part of the story since he is Hadley's newly found brother! Axel takes on the role of Hadley's protector while they try to find out who wants her dead. He isn't honest with her about who he really is though, which creates tension in the relationship. They have some instant attraction, but overall, I found their relationship sweet.

Innocent Target is a great addition to the Redemption Harbor series and I am really loving the world Reus has created for these characters. Certainly looking forward to more books in this series!

Having read all three previous books of this series, I can attest each one is a standalone that ends with a HEA for a main couple you can’t help but root for, folks. Katie Reus also once again gives us a handsome, alpha protective, lethal weapon type hero who has a heart of gold beneath a mountain of muscle.

Hadley, the sweet 22 year old veterinarian school student, may be the doe-eyed, innocent target here, but she sure shot a cupid’s arrow bullseye straight through the unsuspecting heart of Axel, the hero, who started falling for her before laying lips, hands, or even eyes on her. Yeah, this good guy assassin hasn’t lost his soul, despite his nefarious occupation, and still fights for goodness and justice. Unlike many other associates in his line of work, he won’t turn a blind eye just to fatten his paycheck. What he wasn’t expecting was to lose his heart so easily and quickly. Hadley ultimately had it just as bad for Axel, pretty much from first glance. So it is a very quick to love type of read.

Honestly, there’s not a lot of reason to say much more, because the synopsis spells the storyline out really well. I breezed right through this one and enjoyed seeing familiar characters from previous books intermixed with the plot. Overall, this romantic tale seemed more direct and less complex than other books in this series. Other than wishing the leading lady was older, which is just a personal preference, I enjoyed this quick romantic read.

Title: Innocent Target, Series: Redemption Harbor (Book 4), Author: Katie Reus, Pages: 250, standalone but part of series, younger/vet school student heroine, alpha protective assassin hero, some steamy scenes, some violence, romance safe, non-virgin main couple, very quickly fall in love. This is the story of Brook's half sister who we quickly got to meet in his story (). A contract has been put out to kidnap Hadley in order to extort ransom money from her father who is a multimillionaire business man. The job was passed on to Axel so that he could stop the kidnap and protect her from the vicious man who plans revenge on her father and has no intention of releasing her regardless of what her father pays.

Innocent Target is a much shorter book than the previous ones in the series but it is still packed full with action and felt much longer than what it was. Normally books that seem longer is due to them dragging but it's not the case with this one, it was just that it had so much content. As an added bonus we got to catch up with some of the other characters of the series and spent a fair amount of time with Skye & Colt () as well as Hadley's brother Brooks

The only complaint I have about this story is the insta-love that went on between Hadley & Axel, their time together should have been fleshed out a bit more therefore cementing their relationship and their declarations of love.

I was given a free audio copy (via Audible) by the author with the request to leave a review, but it was not a condition and not compulsory to do so. The story was read by Sophie Eastlake who in my opinion did a really great job - I have listened to quite a few books read by her and have always enjoyed them and have her rated as a good narrator.

This is the 4th book in the series and while it could be read as a stand alone the secondary characters are all from previous books so I recommend starting with the first one. I like this series, the characters and it certainly has plenty of action and suspense. It also has two MC's I liked. The hero, Axel is very straight forward, sexy, protective and Alpha. I also liked the heroine who was a bit younger but still strong. I liked that while she was out of her element with the changes in her life she also understood that her life had changed and wasn't afraid to realize that not everything is black and white. She didn't judge the actions of Axel or her brother and his friends. It was also VERY instant love which was a bit much at times but I overlooked that and still thoroughly enjoyed the book. I'm really looking forward to Gage's book.

A copy of this book was provided to me by Netgalley and the publisher with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book and my comments here are my honest opinion.

Advanced Readers Copy Courtesy of Netgalley...:)

This is the 4th installment in this series and I have to say I was very eager to start this one.....I mean who would not want to read a book about a contract killer falling for his target......pure gold!!!

Axel (great name) and Hadley's book is a fast paced romantic suspense (which in my opinion Ms Reus owns this category) and I devoured it cover to cover.

It can be read as a standalone but since all the characters are interwoven and appear in each book, I would suggest starting at the beginning and reading them all.

The blurb pretty much sums up the book and I dont want to give too much away, but I highly recommend it!!!

I’ve enjoyed the first three books in the Redemption Harbor Series and did a little fangirling when I got my ARC for Innocent Target. Yes, there have been some plot hole and timeline issues that have taken away from the experience, but I’m really getting into this group of characters. They are all loyal to each other and have each other’s back through thick and thin. What I’m really enjoying is the diversity of the character types. They are each strong in their own way and I’m relishing getting to know them. For instance, Skye is the ultimate badass female character whose favorite accessory is explosives, but the heroine of this story is Hadley, who is sweet, kind, and more than a bit naive but who has also had a rough childhood that she didn’t let break her. She’s not tough at all in a lot of ways, but a strong character nonetheless.

This does not mean that Hadley didn’t have me rolling my eyes a bit with some of her actions. After an attack at her school, she agrees to go out on a date with a relative stranger, to his house no less! At least she took some steps so that if the worst had happened someone knew who she was with, but still. As much as I liked her, this crossed the TSTL line in a big way. The good news is it happened early on and it was her only jaunt through TSTL land. For the rest of the book, she played it fairly smart.

Unbeknownst to her, her date was a hired killer who was given a contract on her. It’s lucky he’s an assassin with a moral compass who had decided to protect her, not kidnap her. I really liked Axel. From the start, something about him tugged at my heartstrings. Like Hadley, he’d had a tough upbringing. He started out as a good guy wanting to save the world, and a convoluted path led him to his current vocation. Still a good guy, but he definitely worked in some dark gray areas.

Like the first and third book, there were a couple things that kept me from awarding this all the stars. As much as I liked Axel, I don’t feel like we got very deep into his character which was a bit frustrating. My main issue was the bad guy. Once again he was almost caricatured in his evilness, and it was never fully explained why he had such a hard-on for Douglas. In fact, when we finally got more info, it confused rather than clarified the issue. None of this kept me from enjoying the story though.

There was suspense, a small bit of action, and time spent with the Redemption Harbor group of characters that I am so fond of. Plus the chemistry between Hadley and Axel was off the charts and they were sexy as hell together. All this together made for an enjoyable read and I can’t wait to see who falls next in this exceedingly interesting group of friends.

Innocent Target by Katie Reus is the 4th book in the Redemption Harbor series. Hadley Lane is a sweet woman. She is getting to know her half older brother and her father. She had a pretty rough upbringing and now after meeting to half-brother and her father, she has found this peace. She thinks its funny that they are so overprotective yet it makes her feel good. When the story starts, we see that someone is out to kidnap and torture Hadley. Axel O’Sullivan is initially one of the Hit-men for hire out to get Hadley yet he couldn’t go thru with hurting her. He was hired by an unknown enemy who wanted him to take Hadley and deliver her to this unknown enemy. Axel realizes how innocent Hadley was and he soon couldn’t do that, especially when they met over spilled coffee and he came to see how sweet and innocent she was. He decided he would do all he could to protect her. OMG I loved Axel! He knew by hiding who he was, and letting Hadley think he was this different person, it could ruin their relationship that was building and yet he was determined to do this all in order to protect her from harm. Hadley was so kind, sweet, sassy and beautiful. She had a pretty rough life and now she is getting a chance to know what happiness is and suddenly someone is trying to take that from her and she doesn’t know why. Hadley isn't from the world that Axel, her brother and all the other characters in this series work in. She is innocent yet has a steel core that amazed me. She rolled with the punches and stood firm. This is a standalone but the previous characters are secondary and are interwoven in. This is fast pace, intriguing, sizzling and exciting. I loved every minute; I’m most definitely looking forward to the next book.

Honestly, I was very disappointed with this book. I have enjoyed the rest of the series, but this plot was thin and too predictable. The main characters were not well developed, and their love at almost first sight was a little too convenient. Also, too much focused on Skye (see book 1 in the series).Hopefully the next installment will return to the quality of the first three.

Release Day Review! Innocent Target (Redemption Harbor #4) by Katie Reus!

From USA Today bestselling author Katie Reus comes the next story in the explosive Redemption Harbor series where sparks fly and so do bullets He wasn’t supposed to fall for her She was a target. A contract that came across his desk by mistake. Axel was simply going to warn her that she was in danger and get out. Then he got a taste of her and fell hard. But they’re from two different worlds. Not only is she innocent, she’s out of his league. He should keep his distance, but he can’t. Not when someone wants her dead. Now he’s driven to protect her, to keep her safe. What happens when she discovers who he really is? Hadley moved to Redemption Harbor for vet school and to be closer to her new family. Now that her billionaire father knows about her existence, her life has changed drastically. She just never imagined that she might be targeted because of her family. And she definitely never imagined she would fall for the one man she should never want. A man who kills for a living. A man who’s obsessed with her. A man who will do anything to protect her from the danger lurking in the shadows.

Innocent Target is an electrifying read that held me captive from beginning to end.

Hadley and Axel are two very strong, compelling characters that easily caught my attention and then ensured that I fell for them. Their romance is spicy and full of danger which makes for a very exciting courtship as their sizzling chemistry kept the passions burning hot while distracting them from emotional issues and their determination to keep their hands off of each other.

Excitement, danger and suspense keep readers glued to the pages as anticipation and thrills build throughout the story since Hadley has come to the attention of several killers and it’s a good thing she has caught Axel’s attention or sooner or later one of the attempts on her life would be the end and readers can’t help but become caught up in all the danger and excitement as Hadley and Axel easily drag readers along with them throughout their dangerous adventure.

The thrills and excitement never end in this fast paced story that is full of passion and romance. So far every visit to Redemption Harbor has been exciting but this one really got my adrenaline pumping and had me biting my nails in suspense while I got to know Axel and Hadley and of course renew my acquaintance with the characters that I have already met who by the way added quite a bit of intensity to the situation in regards to Axel’s involvement with Hadley. Did I mention that Axel is one sexy and dangerous hunk that sent chills down my spine…yum! I do believe that Katie Rues has her work cut out for her in bringing another such hunk to my attention because Axel is just so memorable (did I mention, yum!) but I am sure that Katie Reus is up to the task because she always brings her characters to vivid life and ensures that I enjoy each and every one of them.

Resurrection
Savage Rising
Dangerous Witness

Hadley Lane is getting used to a lot of life changes. She's started veterinary school, she's still adjusting to having her long-lost billionaire father and ex-marine step-brother in her life (who may be *slightly* overprotective), and the man who saved her from an attack at school, the same man she's falling for, tells her he's a hired killer. And did I mention there's a contract on her head? Axle O'Sullivan only meant to warn Hadley someone wanted her kidnapped, but from the first moment he saw her, he knew she already owned his heart.

Katie Reus is a master when it comes to action packed adventure, intense drama and sizzling chemistry. I’ve been a fan of hers since I read the first Red Stone Security book, so I jumped at the chance to read an early copy of this book, and she definitely delivered! I loved the unique backstory of the heroine and the hardened, jaded hero with the marshmallow center. Hadley and Axle's story was one of non-stop action, nail-biting suspense and sweet, steamy, soul-deep romance that kept me riveted to the page from the first word to the last. I loved this book and wholeheartedly recommend it. Somehow I've missed the first books in the Redemption Harbor series and plan to read them ASAP, because I fell in love with all of these characters. In fact, I’ve already started reading Resurrection. If you like strong, military heroes, independent, intelligent heroines, intense action and suspense, and tender, steamy romance, you’ll love this one!

Hadley has just moved to Redemption Harbor. She’s just getting to know her wealthy father and brother and although she loves them to death, they can be a little overprotective at times. Good thing too because now that someone is threatening her, her brother Brooks and the rest of the Redemption Harbor Consulting team will do anything to protect her.

Just like the rest of the series, this book packs a fast-paced, full of action, edge-of-your-seat plot that was hard to put down. The first chapter was both shocking and amazing and it was everything I want in a romantic suspense. It pulled me right in and from that moment I knew this was going to be a terrific story.
Hadley and Axel relationship is sweet yet it doesn’t lack passion. Their attraction is palpable from the instance they meet and doesn’t falter, even when she discovers his true identity.

Romance and suspense aside, the best part of the story was the people protecting Hadly, specially Skye, whom we got to meet in the first book in the series. She is a bad-a$$ woman through and through and one of my favorite characters ever. If the book was great, Sky and his loving husband Colt making a big appearance made it even better.

Redemption Harbor series as a whole will leave you wanting more but this book in particular will show you what you’re missing out on if you haven’t started it yet.

** I received this book at no cost to me and I volunteered to read it; this is my honest opinion and given without any influence by the author or publisher. **
