Running with the Devil tells the true story of how the ATF (Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives) successfully infiltrated the Arizona chapter of the Hells Angels motorcycle gang, despite major doubts and several close calls.
I found this book to be extremely interesting, and I'm glad that I entered the giveaway for it, even if it did take me a while to get to it. Reading Running with the Devil has given me an even greater respect for the men and women of law enforcement and the job that they do.
Good book. It is over all look at the ricks taken by ATF agents to penetrate the Hell Angels motorcycle gang. Kinda a dry read and a bit sugar coated for my tastes but it does give you a clear picture of the whole ordeal.
Another true crime outlaw motorcycle story to read. I have always found them interesting. Don’t get involved or near these people mostly due to when another outlaw motorcycle gang will try to kill them. Don’t find yourself in the cross fire.
Kerrie Droban does a great job keeping the book interesting and chapters were just long enough. Here is another book read during breakfast coffee.
I only skim-read /Running with the Devil: The True Story of the ATF's Infiltration of the Hells Angels/
It's poorly written.
The story is excellent, but Jay Dobyns, the actual agent who infiltrated the Hells Angels, wrote his excellent book /No Angel : My Harrowing Undercover Journey to the Inner Circle of the Hells Angels/, covering the same story in the first person.
Read /No Angel : My Harrowing Undercover Journey to the Inner Circle of the Hells Angels/ instead.
Undercover ATF agents infiltrate the Hells Angels and the federal prosecutors let them down, doing essentially nothing with all the evidence delivered to them on a bloody platter. I'm not surprised--they were probably busy conjuring up a case against Trump.
Chronicles an ATF operation to infiltrate the Arizona Hells Angels. A career agent with a family and a local rookie cop spend a year and a half trying to become full fledged members. A turned criminal who agreed to join the operation had to be removed near the end because he was about to crack. A female agent joined to give the lead agent a reason to not bang all the tweaker groupies hanging around and ended up being a crucial asset by getting info from the "old ladies". Any of them could have been murdered at any moment for the slightest mistake.
After the operation, the prosecutors bungle the case, no one receives major jail time. None of the infiltrators received adequate protection afterward.
Fairly well written, there's a huge cast of characters that aren't always kept clear, mostly the bikers. There are some big goofs about guns in here, which brings the fact checking into question. There have been several books written about this operation, including one by the lead agent (Jay Dobyns) who's gone public hoping the exposure increases his family's safety. Since protecting them isn't in the ATF's budget.
After risking his life over and over, breaking up his marriage, and compiling a bounty of evidence against the Hells Angels, the undercover officer had his cases weakened, diluted, and tossed. The ATF mishandled much of the prosecution. As a result the undercover officer lives under a death threat and isn't protected under witness protection program. Quite a depressing ending; makes his sacrifice seem like a total waste of time.
Good book. Laid out well and it was an easy, interesting read. What a life for both the ATF agents undercover and the actual Hell's Angels Members. As a female and a bike rider, I wouldn't even think of living like that. Can't believe how we treated the agents once they were done with 'Black Biscuit'.
Cool book, one amazing UC op. I have buddies that know this guy, and MOST of it's a true story. ;) Fairly good work. Under and alone is a better read on the same kind of subject.
Good book, u'd have to be dedicated to what u do to go undercover with people like that. Goes to show u that you really cant trust the government to protect you either. Well worth the read.
A retelling of my brother's/ATF's operation "Black Biscuit" vs. the motorcycle gang the Hell's Angels. Kinda flowery, a romantic type of writing, but tells a pretty accurate story.
