Getting Hot with the Scot is book one in the Sometimes in Love series by Melonie Johnson. This is my very first book by Melonie. Put together one hot Scot, one American tourist, some alcohol and some hijinks, what have you got? A recipe for trouble.
Cassie Crow works hard at her job as pop culture reporter for a television network in Chicago. She doesn’t have time for dating, for socializing. But now it’s time to let her hair down. She and her four girl friends have been planning this vacation for years. They are touring five different countries, each friend having chosen one of the countries. Cassie has never done anything like this before, every experience is a first for her. She has one more experience she’d like to check off her bucket list, to have a fling with a sexy man from one of the countries. She just can’t seem to find the right one. But, while touring a castle in Scotland, after a few shots of whiskey and a wrong turn, she finds herself face to face with a very sexy highlander.
Logan Reid stars and produces an internet show, Shenanigans. It’s a show of practical jokes that has caught the attention of a major network in the states. It’s all he wants, to prove that he can take this to the next level. Cassie bulldozes into his life and turns Logan’s world upside down. She makes him forget everything he has been wanting for so long. All he wants when he’s close to her is her.
“He was the right man, this was the right moment, and she was done waiting.
Their one night stand turns into two which turns into more. Feelings start to enter into things but soon it’s time for Cassie to go home. Little did these two realize their story is not yet over.
Cassie wants to get away from pop culture and prove that she has more. That she can report more important stories. There is no room in her life for anything else, is there? Logan has his own agenda. Neither of these two have ever been in a serious relationship, both too busy dealing with their own lives. The chemistry they share, though, the bond that has begun to develop between them, is too much to ignore. Can they find a way to make it all work?
This was a sweet book. Logan was indeed a sexy Scot. I enjoyed watching things develop between them. I have to admit that the story lagged at times. I found myself wanting to skim and tried to force myself to slow down and read it properly. I did enjoy getting to know the secondary characters. I’m particularly intrigued with Logan’s best friend, Theo and Cassie’s best friend, Bonnie. These two will be featured in the second book in this series, Smitten by the Brit. All in all, this was a fun, sexy book. I really liked the ending. Cassie and Logan really were perfect for each other. It just takes them awhile to figure that out for themselves.

Three Weeks ago, Cassie Crow left Chicago armed with a naked charm bracelet and a full box of condoms No longer bare, her bracelet was loaded with tiny keepsakes she’d found in shops all over Europe. The condom box, however, was still full.
Bonnie was a library whore. The mere glimpse of an old book got her more worked up than a boy-band fangirl with a front-row seat and a backstage pass.
Contrary to her fantasy version of Scotland, hunky, shirtless guys in kilts weren’t sprinkled liberally across the country.
“Shakespeare, Cass. He’s quoting Shakespeare! Good thing her best friend had an on-the-brink -of-setting-a-date fiancé back home, otherwise Cassie was pretty sure Bonnie would have climbed Logan like a tree and made him her personal Scottish jungle gym.
My Review:
I knew I was in for a treat when the first sentence already had me smirking. I believe I read most of the book while sporting a delighted smile. This lively tale was brimming with irreverent humor, sassy banter, and clever wit. Each character was endearingly and distinctly drawn with unique traits and odd little quirks that kept me curious and eager to learn more about them. I was knocked out of my favorite pair of red crocs when noticing this well-crafted story was the author's debut publication. Her writing style was fresh, crisp, and unfailingly engaging with steamy and heart squeezing storylines as well as highly humorous ones. And it was brilliant casting to feature a devilishly sexy and mischievous ginger who spoke with a Scottish burr and owns his own kilt Logan was irresistible.
I hit the mother load in Scottish Words to add to my British Isle’s Word List with fearty cat chickenhearted; clatty slovenly; bampot - Scottish slang for idiot; fashed bothered or annoyed; fouter - of no value; winching kissing with tongue; clootie dumplings a dessert; guffy someone whose behavior is annoying or getting on your nerves; shavie - a joke or prank; bridies - meat pastry; Hogmanay Scottish New Year’s Eve; and first-footing the Scottish custom of going house to house visiting friends for food and drink on New Year’s Eve. Clatty and fearty cat are my current favorites.
I've found a new author to follow too. Can I give this a 10 star review? WOW had me hooked from the beginning. Had everything (thinking about) time-traveling Scots (wink-wink), kilts, great friendships, some heartbreak, hot steamy connections and great locations! And...personally (because it's my favorite Disney movie) I loooovveeed the reference to The Little Mermaid with Bonnie and Theo.
When a reader takes a chance on a new author, she's never quite sure what to expect. This book was delightfully unexpected, and my risk paid off in spades. Flirty and frisky, clever and charming, and tender and touching, this hot Scot hero and his heroine have a palpable connection and surprising depth and vulnerability. But it’s author's ability to bring characters alive and humanize them that bonds me to the characters and fully invests me in the outcome of their story.
Not only does this author have a comfortable, engaging style that showcases her talent, but she clearly displays her knowledge and love of the English language, even teasing about her word nerdy-ness by way of an impromptu grammar lesson from one of Cassie’s friends. I’ll never understand an author publishing a poorly edited manuscript riddled with typos, but you can rest assured that is absolutely not the case with Johnson's books. Her care for her work and pride in her product shines through on every error-proof page, and you can bet this is one author I'll be reading for a long time to come. I’m especially grateful for St. Martin's Press for bringing this book to my attention and making an advanced copy available through NetGalley.
All of the characters are well thought out, relatable and endearing, and I easily, eagerly devoured this book in one evening. I love Cassie's strength and the way she knows her own mind just as much as I love Logan's devil-may-care shenanigans that play a large part in covering the pain and loss he's carried around for years. Cassie and Logan are a poignant example of how two opposites can compliment and strengthen each other, making them better together than either is alone. I wholeheartedly recommend this heartfelt, humorous read, and I can’t wait for the next book in this series!
*I reviewed an advanced copy of this book freely and voluntarily, having made no commitment to provide a review and receiving no compensation of any kind from any source for this review.
This book made me want to drop everything, pack my bags, and head to Scotland, to find me a man in a kilt. Seriously Logan f*cking Reid would probably make any girl rethink the whole kilt thing. Although apparently Cassie and her friends had a thing for kilts. Melonie Johnson has written an engaging story packed with an abundance of humor, steam, and love. This book had everything I love in a romcom; a likable female protagonist, a strong female friend group, and of course a hot guy with a heart of gold and a killer sense of humor.
Cassie and her besties are on a dream vacation in Europe. They are spending their last few days in the UK and Cassie has yet to fulfill her desire for a foreign fling. SO when she runs across Logan in a kilt, in a castle, she is willing to overlook certain things and throw caution (along with other things) to the wind. What transpires is a romance full of push and pull, and will they won’t they? Will Cassie and Logan be able to let their guards down and allow love into their lives?
This book was just so much fun! I loved Cassie and her friends, this was a group of girls I would love to hang out with. I also loved Logan‘s friend Theo, and I cannot wait for his story. Logan was a great guy a little selfish, but he came around. The chemistry between Cassie and Logan was pretty darn sizzling. Something I really appreciated about this book was the drama was pretty realistic, not too over-the-top, The perfect amount of angst. I really love romances with more humor than angst, I like to laugh more than cry.
Simply put this was an engaging story that left me wanting more! Cannot wait for Bonnie and Theo‘s book!
*** many thanks to St. Martin’s Press for my copy of this book ***
I have to admit that a foreign accent will catch my attention. And if he’s cute and in a kilt? Yeah, I’d probably be out of control flirting. The heroine had a goal on her foreign vacation: a one-night stand with a sexy stranger. The story was a cute premise and a sexy read. For the younger, uncommitted single reader. NOT YA.
I don’t care for pranks or practical jokes which put me at odds with the hero from the start. He redeems himself by the end with his Mam and his deep feelings for the heroine. Mam = mother. Lots of local Scottish slang I was unfamiliar with, some I could find in a dictionary or figure out from the sentence, some I could not. bejants - dictionary didn’t work on this one.
Cassie just loves to tease her man, “well, until you started to strip for me, he admitted. “And now that I ken what kind of knickers you’re hiding under there” he quirked an eyebrow at her, pointedly staring her up and down— supper is going to be torture for sure. Logan loves to have a good time with his girl, "...She smiled and tossed him a towel, her gaze straying lower. “Ye’ve a wandering eye, lass, he teased, smacking her on her towel-covered bottom..." I liked this book, I fell in love with Logan.
Have I ever told you how I love historical Highland romances? No? Well, now you know. So, of course, I was interested when I read the blurb. A book that includes a kilted Scot in the modern times? I mean, sign me up or something.
The first chapter basically sucked me in. It was just so good. The ending of that chapter made me excited. It promised fun. And it delivered, big time!
I was laughing during reading and that happens rarely.
Cassie is like me a sucker for historical romances and of course, when she first sees a dishevelled Scot who looks lost she thought she can’t be that lucky. And because she had only one mission on her holiday to have a foreign fling she thought, why not. Now imagine her surprise when seconds later after a scorching kiss she realizes the man she kissed is no other than the guy who is hosting a web sensation called Shenanigans in which he pranks famous (and not that famous) people. What follows is a hilarious story of cat and mouse which then led to HEA.
I can’t tell much because I’m afraid I’ll spoil the book but if I got you just a little bit curious then I suggest you buy this book as soon as it is out.
If I still didn’t persuade you, maybe this will: I loved this book so much I had to request an ARC of the second book. Luckily, I got it and I started reading it the minute I was done with this book. A truly wonderful book for a debut author (I was so surprised when I learned that but at the same time also relieved that I don’t have a lot to catch up 😉 ).
5 stars of course.
A small note for the ending: It did bother me that it was not that clear when one POV started and when it ended but since this was an ARC, I’m sure all this will be corrected until the release.
ARC provided via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Witty, fun and filled with humor and heart, GETTING HOT WITH THE SCOT by Melonie Johnson will leave readers smiling at the romantic antics of one American woman and the sexy man-in-a-kilt who will check off the final “to-do item on her list!
Cassie Crow took a walk on the wild side when sexy Scot, Logan Reid melted her libido with his oh-so-hot accent. Will one night together be enough or will these two discover that even an ocean cannot keep them apart, in spite of their fear of the pitfalls of commitment.
As bright as a sunny day, this love story has passion, emotional upheaval and two adorable characters who just can’t seem to get on the same page when it comes to love. Witty dialogue, clever clichés, sizzling, enthusiastic dances between the sheets, grab a beach chair and fall in love with love!
I received a complimentary ARC edition from St. Martin's Paperbacks!

What will happen with Cassie & Logan? Will there be a HEA??? READ THE BOOK TO FIND OUT!
══════════════════
Well, that was adorable. Funny, cute, british. I loved this group of girls. And Logan and Theo too!
Since this is the first book, a bit too much time was used to introduce us to all the girls and the boy from the 2nd book. That made this book a tiny bit too long for my tastes. BUT it didn't bother me much - I really liked allll the characters and I can't wait to read the other books!
The writing is also something that I need to get used to. We switch between his and her 3rd person POV so fast, I got lost plenty of times. I prefer first person stories and I prefer to have a little break before the other person starts talking or thinking. It was a bit complicated here. Plus the fact that I read an unproofed ARC, and there were NO breaks at all between scenes and locations. Lotsa complicated for this reader - but I'm sure that the finished book will have separate paragraphs for you!
Something I didn't love-love about the story? Logan was a bit too immature about life and love. He's not 17 anymore. It's totally understandable to still grieve for a parent after years, but ... he should've/could've done something about things. Aka see a therapist or talk to his family. I guess he needed to face losing someone else he loves to finally get it.
Great Romance - with lots of adorable moments, touristy moments, sexy moments, funny moments. Plus a few serious moments about their jobs and their future and their pasts and their families ....
I really enjoyed reading it! Now I can't wait to get Bonnie & Theo's story!!!!
Aww so sweet and Logan?? Total yum! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Just as the title suggests, the story is a cute romcom that takes a hold of you and will not let go. It starts with a wild and wacky scene and just keeps on going.
While on a trip of a lifetime with 4 other friends, Cassie finds herself wrapped up in a hunky, kilt wearing Scot who is so worth the intense ribbing she gets from her friends. After all, who could resist, especially when the hot Highlander returns the heat and ups the passion.
This fun, lighthearted story is loaded with adventure, a few ups and downs, and some hot and heavy hooking up that takes them all by surprise. A better surprise is the way the author takes the two personalities and balances them beautifully.
He is a wounded soul that hides everything behind jokes and fun. She is a hardworking gal, aching to get ahead at her work and enjoying her European fling. After all, that is why she brought a king size box of condoms with her on vacation.
Sweet, funny, sexy AF, and just a wonderful all around read, Getting Hot with the Scot by Melonie Johnson is a fabulous first time novel and sets the bar high for other up and coming rom-com writers. A definite must read!
* copy received for review consideration full review -
If someone was to stand directly in front of me and say BOO, there’s a good chance I may break down in tears. I’m one of those overly sensitive little snowflakes who screams blue murder if someone tries to scare me. I think my boys did it to me once when they were younger…and my tears brought on their tears. The whole thing was a bloody mess and hubby had to calm us all down and give the boys a little talking to. *Don’t scare mummy or she’ll FREAK OUT!!!*
So, you can imagine my surprise (and slight horror) when I started Getting Hot with the Scot and found out that Logan, our hero is aPrankster. I’m an absolutely dodgy reviewer. When the review request came through, I didn’t even look at the blurb. Modern-day Scot…I’M IN!! Because I didn’t do my due diligence, I decided that I should bury my bias, and give the poor bugger a chance.
Let’s just say that Cassie was a better woman than I ever could be. I guess the hardest part of falling for Logan is that it’s hard to trust a prankster. Big gestures, spontaneous dates and out of character actions are hard to take seriously, and even I found myself doing the old squinty eyes trying to work out if it was a prank or not. Luckily, Logan is not just a prankster. He’s also a sweet, thoughtful and considerate man. I found myself swinging from squinty-eyed to goofy lovey-dovey eyes, with the turn of the page. By the end, I even managed to forget his past misdeeds and looked to the bright future Logan and Cassie were meant to have.
I enjoyed Getting Hot with the Scot and found Melonie Johnson’s writing entertaining, sexy, funny and sweet. The journey for Cassie and Logan was far from smooth and I even had my doubts that things would work out in a way that I could believe in their happy ever after. It all worked out perfectly in the end and I finished with a smile on my face. I loved meeting Cassie’s friends and Logan’s family and his best mate, Theo. I hope to hear more from them in future instalments and I can't wait for The Little Mermaid to see her Prince Charming again.
If you’re looking for a fun read and curious to know what a Scot wears under his kilt, I highly recommend giving Getting Hot with the Scot a go.
Stacey is Sassy, received a complimentary copy of this story. The copy provided is not the final copy and may be subject to edits and changes.
An adorable modern romance with wonderful characters. Our heroine and her friends are finally on the trip for which they had planned and saved since college. Each girl chose a country in Europe for them to visit together. They have reached the last country, the U. K. But our heroine still hasn't fulfilled her goal of having a torrid and short romance. Then she comes across a seemingly misplaced Highlander while visiting a castle in Scotland. Quickly she recognizes him but not before she embarrasses herself on video for his web show. Our hero must get her signature in order to show the highly entertaining and career producing video. If only he could keep his mind off of her and on business when he is with her.
I absolutely loved how rich, well-developed, and sexy this book was. Cassie and Logan feel like whole people, with friends, families, career ambitions, and individual concerns, and Melonie Johnson shows us how their relationship really grows from first lust to real love. I read this book in one night I couldn't put it down!
Cassie Crow is a pop-culture reporter for a morning talk show in Chicago called ChiChat. She loves her job and friends. She made a pact with her girls that five years after graduation the five of them would take their dream vacation. Three weeks ago they left to travel all over Europe, and are now nearing the last leg of their once in a lifetime trip. Currently they are in Scotland touring an ancient castle when she stumbles upon a hot, brawny highlander. It just so happens a fabulous, fantasy fling is on her vacation bucket list. She hasn't been able to check it off her list, so this gorgeous ginger might be just what she's been looking for.
-The man was too sexy for his own good.
-She hadn't thought it possible, but he'd managed to turn the charm factor up another notch.
-Electricity pulsed, zinging along an invisible current connecting her to him.
Cassie wanted a steamy foreign encounter she would never forget, and that's exactly what she gets with Logan. She wasn't the type to have a one night stand with a perfect stranger, but vacation Cassie was going to take risks, let loose, and indulge. For once she was going to take a chance and be impulsive. When he was near her inhibitions flew out the window, and logic was replaced with lust. She wanted him so desperately nothing else seemed to matter.
Logan Reid is the internet host for a web show called Shenanigans known for its juvenile prank videos. While filming his latest hoax he crosses paths with a beautiful, sassy American. She's a challenge and full of attitude, but he finds her irresistible and intriguing. One touch and he realizes one night with her will never be enough. Will he put his career first or take a chance on love?
Getting Hot with the Scot by Melonie Johnson is book one in the Sometimes in Love series. It is the authors debut novel, and a fantastic contemporary romance that is extremely sexy and funny. I really enjoyed this story and all the supporting characters. I look forward to the other books in the series that will feature the friends and different couples.
A review copy of this book was provided by St Martin's Press in exchange for an honest review.
When St Martin's Press reached out to me about reading this book, I was a little hesitant given my recent experience with this genre. All too often, reading a romance book feels like reading a checklist - all the main points are the same, the only things that change are the names and the backdrop. While this book was a bit predictable, it has massive heart and an enjoyable plot that will hold a lot of appeal to people who are looking for a fun, fast read.
Getting Hot With the Scot follows Cassie and her horde of friends as they are finishing up their dream European vacation. Cassie's at a pivotal part of her life - she's ready to trade her safe career for a more challenging and serious (read: more unstable) role at her company. In the meantime, she's also trying to break out of her shell and push her boundaries - be more daring in her life. Enter Logan: a YouTube prankster who pulls a con on Cassie and starts following her around Europe to get her to sign a release form.
I can't say that the plot to this book was wholly original - it was definitely predictable, but I was pleasantly surprised with the pacing of this book - it was snappy and quick and lagged in very few areas. There was a good mix of cutesy romantic stuff, real life challenges (both in the form of Cassie's new job and in the life hurdles Logan has experienced), and drama. These three were balanced well, and made me not want to put the book down.
Cassie was surprisingly likable - she wasn't a pushover and stood her ground on things that were important to her. For example: when Logan repeatedly confronted her about the release form, she didn't bow to his pressure. She stood her ground, was daring in her career, and was just generally a pleasant character. I only wish that she had cared more about her friends: Bonnie is clearly going through some tumultuous times, but Cassie doesn't really try to help her. I was a bit more on the fence about Logan - he started out being a bit of a tool, and then just kinda spiraled into being a very generic romance leading man.
One of my gripes with this book is about the sheer volume of side characters and how underdeveloped they were. I'm sure the plan is to give each character a spin off from this book (including the already scheduled one about Bonnie), but they really added nothing to the plot. The only side character I was even remotely invested in was Bonnie, because she was the only one given any semblance of character out side of a single trait (one of Cassie's friends' only defining characteristic was that she never ever gained weight no matter how much she ate). Honestly, the book would have been better (and smoother) for trimming the fat that was these characters.
This was a bubbly, cliche, and quick read oozing with charm and sweetness. While it's not necessarily the freshest of plots, it's a fun ride that makes for perfect beach reading. If you're on the hunt for a new romance author to follow - Melonie Johnson is your gal. I'd give Getting Hot with the Scot 4/5.
I picked this up despite the schmaltz practically dripping off it. I mean, the title, the cover, the cover copy all scream "lower your expectations because nobody cared very much if this was any good." But hey, the library had a copy so I gave it a shot. Or, at least, not quite a quarter of a shot.
The thing is, it just doesn't work. We keep being told about how charming Logan is, but there's none of that evident on the page. And Cassie is all driven and professional and stuff, but all we see is sloppy wishful thinking. The friends are tropes tossed together so you can have a variety in your follow-on romance series. And the plot is a bunch of stuff that happens because the author says it does.
I mean, I knew as soon as Cassie told herself that she wanted to prove to her show that she could "change lives" by doing hard-hitting reports that this wasn't something anybody put any thought into. It's a morning chat show in Chicago, apparently. I couldn't name a morning chat show that does hard-hitting, life-changing in-depth reporting with gummi bears on the line. So it's just . . . yeah, not a thing a reasonable, serious person could make as an actual ambition. The thing is, the name of the show is supposedly ChiChat. You know, a cute way to combine Chicago and Chat so that it'd be like "Chit Chat"? Right. Unless you consider how Chicago is pronounced with a "Sh". Which changes that whole show to something else entirely...
3.5 Is It Real Stars * * * 1/2 Spoiler Free A man with a kilt is always a draw for me. Add all the goods that are under it with a man who is charming, sexy and eventually sees what is important... that is a terrific tale. This concept is explored in Getting Hot with the Scot by Melonie Johnson. Take a savvy reality tv producer who has no love life and pair with a Scot who has had a YouTube show on the brink of crossing over and becoming an actual network show.
What you have are people who never had relationships, who have to figure out when things are real or just for show, and also need to understand what is off-limits when pursuing their careers. Learning to trust in love is the goal.
The characters were engaging and there was a lot of humor, however, there were situations that cause a little unease for me. I do not like practical jokes or pranks so that took a little of the glow off for me. Overall though, it was an enjoyable read.
Getting Hot with the Scot (Sometimes in Love, #1) /review/show... Smitten by the Brit (Sometimes in Love #2) Once Upon a Bad Boy (Sometimes in Love #3)
A gifted copy was provided by author/publisher for an honest review.
It seems like most of my friends enjoyed by new-to-me author , but the story didn't gel with me at all.
It's true, contemporary romance is something that I struggle with, but I maintain that really good contemporary romance can (and does) work for me. I'm just picky about my contemp romances, that's all.
I hated the huge cast of friends that played such a big role in the beginning of the story. It was one person introduced after the other, and I couldn't keep all those characters straight. It was utterly distracting and confusing, like the author just wanted to set up the next few books in the series. I wanted to focus on the main couple, and all I got was a bunch of distracting friends who had no boundaries.
The romance felt shallow and insta-lovey, the plot dragged, and I found it to be a repetitive story that failed to catch my interest. I didn't hate it, but I had to force myself to read it, which is never a good sign. Didn't work for me.
What began as a one night stand, after one wallop of a misunderstanding, developed into something neither one saw coming! Cassie was a firecracker with a fun spirited manner. With a mischievous personality and a sense of adventure, Logan was adorable! (And if Prince Harry could have a Scottish accent...well, that’s who I kept picturing as Logan, lol!) Their relationship came about a bit backwards, including foot in mouth moments and spicy make-up scenes, but I really loved when Cassie and Logan let their guards down and truly opened themselves up, baring themselves emotionally. That level of trust is what finally sold me on them as a couple!
Overall, I thought this book was a cute read! Wacky humor and silly banter, a zany group of girlfriends (and a best mate) who had each other’s backs, and one couple who could-and did!-light a fire with the wild sparks between them...I don’t think it gets much better! Although the sparks flying between Cassie’s bestie Bonnie and Logan’s best friend Theo are leading into what I hope will be another great romantic adventure....
A favorite quote that had me grinning like the Cheshire Cat when I read it:
...smart women read romance.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This book was a lovely discovery: fun to read and really entertaining. I loved the cast of characters, the plot and the setting. I will surely look for other books by this writer. Highly recommended! Many thanks to St. Martin's Press and Netgalley for this ARC
Getting Hot with the Scot was a wonderful start to a new contemporary romance series with an amazing group of characters and a fantastic romance.
Cassie Crow and her four closest friends are fulfilling their dream of touring five countries five years after graduating college. While she’s supposed to be disconnected from her job, Cassie can’t help but worry about the meeting waiting for her where she hopes to convince her boss to move her from pop culture reporting to more serious topics. After Cassie stumbles upon a sexy Highlander in a kilt, she decides taking one night off from her worries couldn’t hurt. But the more time Cassie and Logan spend together, the clearer it becomes that what’s between them is more than just a fling.
Cassie is incredibly passionate about her work and hopes she can help make a difference through the reporting segments she wants to do. I admired her dedication to her work and I loved that one of the segments she hoped to do focused on literacy. Cassie is actually an avid romance reader which was something I loved about her as that’s not something I see too often in books.
Logan is a prankster who gained fame after creating a website called Shenanigans where he posts videos of himself committing various pranks. Logan’s dream is to have a sketch comedy style television show which he feels will legitimize his choice of career. I liked how motivated Logan was to turn his prank series into something more and I admired his drive and commitment to his work.
Cassie and Logan first meet when Cassie accidentally becomes part of one of Logan’s sketches. While initially Logan’s goal was to convince Cassie to sign a release form, he quickly began to fall for her leading him to set aside that goal. I enjoyed the playful banter in Cassie and Logan’s relationship and how the two were able to make each other laugh so easily. Their physical relationship was very sexy with some fantastic scenes. Both Cassie and Logan have a fear of commitment and it does cause problems in their relationship. I was happy though with the way they worked through those issues and managed to get their happily ever after.
Cassie’s friend group was quite possibly my favorite thing about this book. Bonnie, Sadie, Ana, and Delaney are all such amazing characters and I’m hoping we get a bit for all of the ladies at some point. Bonnie and Sadie definitely have books, Smitten by the Brit and Once Upon a Bad Boy respectively, but I would love to see Ana and Delaney get books as well.
Overall I really enjoyed Getting Hot with the Scot and I’m looking forward to reading the next book, Smitten by the Brit, soon.

Cassie Crow and four of her friends are off to Europe for a trip of a lifetime, each of them have chosen a destination they would love to visit after graduating from college and now, five years later their dream has become a reality.
Logan is a jokester, he makes his living by pranking people and uploading it onto YouTube but now he has a chance to further his career with a television show in America, and an unknowing Cassie walks right into his trap.
I haven't laughed this hard in a LOOOOONNNNGGG time! There were parts that I was afraid I would choke on the drink I was drinking or worse spit it out all over the person seated next to me. The laughs were just one part that made this book a great read, the chemistry between Logan and Cassie was the other. These two couldn't keep their hands off one another, and honestly with a man in a kilt who could blame Cassie.
This was a fun, sweet, and sexy read that had me wanting to get to know each of the secondary characters more. I am sooooo looking forward to reading the rest of the series. Great start to Melonie Johnson's debut into Contemporary Romance! Happy Reading!!!

Getting Hot with the Scot by Melonie Johnson is book one in her new Sometimes in Love series.
Meet Cassie Crow, she and her best friends are on vacation, travelling through Europe and they just arrived in beautiful Scotland. She's a broadcast journslist and life is good. When she mmets a irresistible hunk of a ginger scot her fate is about to change again.
Logan Reid is a man of many talents. And one of it is being a prankmaster on his own show. When he mmets Cassie he doesn't know yet that he met his mistress. They butt heads like crazy, just like their chemistry is a crazy one.
The story is excellent written, beautifully thought out and beautifully told with a great storyline. It's a rom/com of the finest, I greatly enjoyed the bicker and banter of the couple, the twists and turns that kept me at the edge of my seat. I read the book, cover to cover in one sitting and give 4,5 stars.
Yes, this Scot was hot! .......And perfect for that vacation fling Cassie wanted, until he was more. This story was at times fun and flirty, hilarious, serious, and heartbreaking. Cassie’s best friends were fun characters. Their sometimes snarky, but always fond comments were very entertaining. Logan was more of a puzzle with Cassie only seeing small pieces of his real self. I enjoyed the book even though it felt a bit long at times. Definitely worth the read.

Getting Hot with the Scot is a fun and entertaining romantic comedy from author Melonie Johnson. When I first laid eyes on the synopsis, I just knew I had to check this book out and I am so glad that I did! Now, I’ll be a 100% honest with you, when I first dove into this book, I wasn’t 100% sure about it. For some reason, I had the hardest time getting into the story. But, I gotta tell you, I am so glad I didn’t give up. I am so glad that I kept going and gave this book the chance that it deserved because I ended up totally loving it. Once you get to know Cassie and Logan, they are impossible to not fall in love with!
Cassie and Logan were such a fun pair. Logan was a riot and prankster. I’ll be straight with you, I didn’t know if his intentions were true in the beginning, but I soon discovered that there was a lot more to Logan than meets the eye. Not only is he sexy as ever, but add in his thick Scottish accent and I was a goner. I mean, I just loved hearing his character talk. I felt like I was right along in Scotland with the characters. Add in that the story-line is actually one of my top troupes, I was a goner. I mean, there is nothing better than a night of passion, that suddenly turns into more. Cassie and Logan had some intense sparks between them and I was so excited for the possibility of more between the two of them. The road to happily ever after for these two definitely wasn’t an easy one. There were a lot of bumps along the way. But, I really enjoyed seeing Logan and Cassie’s relationship grow and I especially enjoyed seeing Logan come to terms with his past and taking a risk on a love of a lifetime.
Getting Hot with the Scot was a totally fun read. I loved getting lost in Cassie and Logan’s story. I thought the plot was a lot of fun and the characters were a riot. I loved the friendship that Cassie had with her girlfriends and loved the closeness that Logan had with his family. Together, Logan and Cassie were an undeniable match. Their sparks intense and the tension between the two of them left me begging for more. I loved the will they/won’t they moments along the way. I loved the angst between them and seeing them trying to figure things out. They weren’t perfect, but I loved that about them. They had lots of growing to do and I just couldn’t wait to see how their story would unravel in the end.
Overall, I thought this book was a really enjoyable read. It was sweet. It was romantic. It had lots of humorous moments and others that just tugged at my heart. I had a great time getting to know these characters and had fun getting swept up in their story. This is my first book by this author and it certainly won’t be my last. I can’t wait to see what adventure this author has in store for us next.

Cassie and her four friends have finally taken their trip to Europe, that they planned back in their freshman year of college. They are on their last leg of the journey presently in Scotland, moving on to London, England. Cassie has wanted to have one fling with a man on this trip, but as their travels wind down, her box of condoms is still full. While visiting Edinburgh Castle, she wanders into an off-limits room, and comes face-to-face with the man of her dreams, a Highlander with red, unruly hair wearing a kilt. Little does she know that when she throws her inhibitions out the window, that her life will change forever. Will this just a vacation fling or something much more, that she had not planned for?I wish I had four friends like Cassie does. They are so much fun. They work hard to try to get Cassie and Logan together, for more than just a fling. Cassie Crow is a hostess on a morning show in Chicago, but she has big plans. She wants to be involved in more serious reporting and has her life somewhat planned out, she does not have room or time to become a laughing-stock caused by Logan's web-show "Shenanigans". Logan Reid and his sister are internet sensations with their show "Shenanigans". Logan plays practical jokes on all sorts of people, but will the joke that Cassie stumbled into be worth the harm to her and a possible relationship? I loved Logan's character. He was a hurt little boy, hiding in a man's body. I enjoyed seeing him grow and change throughout the story. This was a sweet story. Logan was indeed a sexy Scot and Cassie a shy, driven woman who sizzled when they were together. I enjoyed watching things develop between them, and was rooting for a happy ending. There were a few slow parts in the story, particularly once they were back in Chicago, but otherwise, the story was well-paced and I read through it pretty quickly. I am looking forward to the next story with Bonnie (Cassie's best friend) and Theo (Logan's best friend). I had a feeling reading this one that something will develop between them once Bonnie dumps Gabe, her fiance that seems to be quite happy with the status quo. All in all, this was a fun, sexy book and I recommend it to romance lovers who enjoy a happily ever after with a lot of sizzle. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book upon my request. The rating, ideas and opinions shared are my own.
