Ice and Snow Christmas #3

Snowball's Chance

Rate this book
Christmas is a time of love, second chances…and getting stuck on a project with the one coworker who drives you insane.

Adam Reynolds loves working as a graphic designer for Roland-Wainwright, but he could do without being tied to so-called marketing genius Jason Edmond. The man might know his way around a campaign, but he’s boring and far too demanding. Though, Adam has to admit that the man is incredibly sexy and maybe there is a little mystery about what he does when he’s not wrapped in his form-hugging suit all day.

Jason ecstatic to be selected to work on this unique marketing campaign for Roland-Wainwright, but he’s not looking forward to dealing with Adam’s know-it-all attitude. Okay, so maybe the guy creates visually stunning graphics that are so far ahead of his peers…and maybe he is occasionally distracted by Adam’s sinful mouth.

Jason and Adam must find a way to work together to complete the campaign without killing each other. And if they succeed, the prize at the end stands to change both their lives in ways they never imagined.

Well, that just put a humongous smile on my dial.

Adam and Jason have worked together at Roland-Wainwright marketing firm for a while now. One is a graphic design whiz and the other is a marketing campaign genius, but they rarely work together on joint projects. They have a bit of an adversarial vibe going on, although they each wonder if that feeling of frustration and annoyance stems more from an unwanted attraction than anything truly disagreeable.

When they are paired together on a huge campaign to rebrand the image of their own company, they must put their differences and preconceived ideas of each other aside to get the job done, with the mutual goal of devising an epic marketing ploy to win the campaign and the $25,000 bonus (each) that goes with it.

Although Adam and Jason's working dynamic gets off to a rocky start, each acting more stubborn and in opposition to new ideas as the other, they eventually rein themselves in and rise above their differences to get the job done.

Somewhere along the way, beyond the long work hours and the intense planning sessions, Adam and Jason swiftly begin to develop some major feelings for one another, and the lines between co-workers and lovers are soon blown to smithereens.

This was one tasty enemies-to-lovers office romance. Featuring two easily likable MCs, this Christmas treat was fast paced and engaging, with some truly heart-warming and moving scenes and some even steamier moments to keep things equally sweet and sexy.

Although I loved book one in the series (Walking on Thin Ice), I actually I liked this one even more! It was great to see the previous series MCs make brief but memorable appearances here, and although it might be a long-shot, I'm desperately hoping that next year we get a story about Adam's lovely brother Jack!

The bar has now been set high for M/M Christmas reads of 2018. Let's do this!

I liked this story fine, but it wasn't on quite the same level as book 1, "Walking on Thin Ice", which I absolutely loved.

In this story, Adam was a dick and Jason was a dick, until they weren't. And they really hated one another, again, until they didn't.

I enjoyed seeing the guys get over themselves and start to fall for one another, but that did happen pretty quickly. Maybe a little too quickly for my slow burn tastes.

It didn't feel *completely* insta-lovey, but didn't miss that mark by much. They fell into an easy camaraderie, quickly feeling comfortable spending time with one another, both in and out of bed, but I didn't get quite enough heart-to-heart talks, opening up about their true feelings, to completely satisfy the romantic in me.

The level of steam was fairly high, but the angst was kept to manageable levels, which I enjoyed.

I was also glad this story wasn't super-duper Christmassy. The story happened in December and a few pages at the very end, where they exchanged gifts, but that was about it.

If that makes this a Christmas story, then I guess every book with events occurring in June *must* be about my birthday, too, right? heh ;- )

I'd rate this almost Christmas-free story at around 3.75 stars and do plan on going back and reading book 2 when I get a chance.

I enjoyed this book so much more than I did the previous one. Although it's a short and fairly fast read it held all the things that were missing in Ice, Snow & Mistletoe. Enemies to lovers is one of my favourite tropes provided the pushing away and angst for angst's sake is not dragged out too long which is why I think this one worked so well for me.

Loved Adam and Jason, loved their build to a relationship and .... gasp .... for a girl who is not a fan of Christmas novellas, I loved this Christmas story

A cozy, charming winter story.
I didn't like the beginning so much. The mutual dislike that Adam and Jason had was understandable, but I'm usually not a big fan of that sort of thing. I always find that makes it hard to bond with the characters.
However, the story gradually grew on me and by the end I was literally melting away.

“He’s hotter than hell. I want to do horrible, dirty things to his mouth and then the rest of his body. 🤭🤭🤭

Maybe it was the excitement he could see sparkling in Adam’s eyes or the pink in his cheeks. Or maybe he was just tired of fighting something that felt so natural. Reaching out with his free left hand, he cupped the side Adam’s face. When his lips parted in surprise, Jason took advantage of the offering. He kissed him, finally basking in the warmth and sweetness that had tempted him for too many days. 🫠🫠🫠

“Ever thought a person’s laugh was the single best sound in the entire world and that you wanted to dedicate your life to making it happen as often as possible? 😍😍😍

This was a lovely story, sweet and warm. I really liked Adam's relationship with his brother.

Re-read 12/2019: I liked it just as much this time around. As with book 1, everything happens a bit too fast, but the story is so sweet and heart-warming that I'm more than willing to look past that. Off to read Jack's story.

Like the previous one, this one didn't grab me like the first installment of the series; it had both too much detail on the whole marketing campaign (not a fan) and too little with both MCs working in their offices separately. I get why there would be little romantic interaction there with Jason not wanting to make their fledgling relationship public, especially at work, but considering these guys were working on a project together there seemed to be too much distance for even that.

And unlike another book I finished today, I felt the Insta-love was too quick. For some reason I have a harder time buying that trope in a contemporary story.

As someone who also didn't often socialize with other employees, I did appreciate that Jason was practically a recluse due to financial obligations and not really a snob. That's a hard label to break and changing people's attitudes can be difficult even when they know the truth. Also, OMG, I loved how Adam's brother handled his bigoted wife, and how Adam let him discover the truth - eventually, after years of her crappy treatment - on his own; sometimes that's the only way for people to see the truth as being told doesn't always register the same way.

So, I liked it...but I didn't love it.

Although, if Adam's brother gets a book I'll totally read that.

Disappointed, party of one, your table is ready.

The first book in this series was one of my favorite reads of 2016, and although I completely understand that you can't expect the same magic with every book...I do have some expectations.

Unfortunately, here everything felt underdeveloped.

With the exception of one or two differentiating factors, Jason and Adam had the exact same voice. I couldn't tell whose POV I was in half the time.

The enemies to lovers aspect is very short lived, so if you're picking this up because that trope is your jam....don't come in with high expectations.

This book can't figure out what it wants to focus on...is it the project the two guys are working on? is it the fact that Jason wants to hide their romance at the office because he's not out at work? is it the fact that Adam's sister-in-law is homophobic and he's hiding the truth from his brother?

Each of these plots would have carried a novella of this length wonderfully, but rather than developing each or focusing on just one, the author gives you enough crumbs to get you interested and that's it. I was left wanting more. Needed details were missing or glossed over and the resolutions were rushed. I still have so many questions.

So, unfortunately, I end my 2018 reading year with a disappointment.

Third one's a charm

This is another gorgeous Christmas romance from Jocelynn and a delightful enemies to lovers office affair.

I loved both Adam and Jason and their hopes and fears which meshed so well together once they got over themselves.

There's also a cute catch up with both couples from the first two books too.

Liked it, it was well written and a cozy Christmas office romance that reminded me a bit of NR Walkers 65 hours, but it was too insta love for me, one of my least favourite tropes. I get that you can do just so much slow burn in a 140 paged story, but they went from hating each other’s guts to love and moving in way too fast for my liking. But then again, it’s a Christmas story, so all this sweetness and coziness is supposed to part of it.

No soy nada fan del trabajo de contemporánea de esta autora, pero me encanta esta serie suya de Navidad. Personajes adorables, la dosis justa de dulzura y angst. Bonito, agradable, lo he disfrutado mucho.

There’s something really great about a hate-to-love story, especially when it’s set at Christmastime; the time of year for cheer and goodwill, but that’s not what Adam’s feeling; he’s stuck working with a guy he can’t stand (even though he is super-hot!). I adored the standoffishness and disinterest Adam gave to Jason when they were first designated to work on a special project together; I could just picture Adam; lip curled and sneering at every suggestion Jason made and that made me smile. But first impressions are never usually right and here’s the perfect example when these two start spending time together. There was so much to enjoy here; I adored watching Adam and Jason peeling back each other’s layers and really getting to know each other and finding out that there’s much more than meets the eye. I was willing them on in the race to win the project, and it was interesting and fun seeing them come up with ideas and run with them. Do they win? You’ll have to read this wonderful Christmas tale to find out. A really funny, heartfelt and happy story which is just perfect for snuggling up with on a cold winters evening.

Jason and Adam have worked together for over a year. One in marketing the other in graphic designs. When the company is looking to launch a new campaign the two are paired together. The problem is neither of them like each other very much. However, they have to put aside their differences and bring their A game for the new campaign and a $25,000 bonus that they could both use.

Overall, I like it. It was an angst free, enemies to lovers, Christmassy romance that was super sweet.

Snowball’s Chance is an enjoyable sweet sexy read, Adam and Jason are work colleages who do not like each other until they are teamed together for a project with the winning team winning an impressive bonus which Jason desperately needs.

This is Jocelyn Drake’s third Christmas novella in her Ice and Snow Christmas series, they are all stand alone but I have read them back to back again this month.

I did not find this one very Christmassy compared to the other two that is why the 4* rating but Adam and Jason are still HOT together.

A Delightful Holiday Read

Snowballs’s Chance is a sweet, romantic holiday read. It is Jocelynn Drake’s third Christmas book in this series. Although characters from the previous books make appearances, you don’t need to read them in order to enjoy this book. (I highly recommend reading the other two books at some point though, because they are just as wonderful!) Drake has a knack for packing a lot of story into a novella.

Adam and Jason are coworkers who are polite to one another at best, but prefer to work separately. They each acknowledge that the other is excellent at what he does, but aren’t quite as ready to acknowledge their attraction. They’ve worked together in the past on smaller projects but it hasn’t been easy because of their very different styles and ideas. Now they must work solely on a big campaign for the next two weeks.

Adam is out at work, but Jason is not. Adam is outgoing and likes to take creative risks. Jason is a loner who prefers to play it safe. Can these opposites be patient and open-minded enough to merge their creativity and win the marketing campaign? Can they keep fighting their growing attraction as they work together?

Still not as good as Walking on Thin Ice for me, but much better than Ice, Snow & Mistletoe...although the couple featured in the latter story do actually celebrate their wedding in this one. Good riddance to the homophobic sister-in-law 😠, and a tentative happy and hopeful future for Adam and Jase. 4 stars.

I realized too late that this is the third instalment in a series of Christmas novellas, but it didn't matter too much.
I enjoyed the 'enemies to lovers' theme between two colleagues in its own right, and it was a fun read, but nothing that really rocked my boat too hard. Maybe my rating is suffering from the fact that this is the third Christmas story this year dealing with the same trope. That is neither the MCs nor the author's problem though.

Have a go, I am sure you'll enjoy this one!

Happy, happy, happy.

I liked that a lot.

It was the perfect office enemies to work partners to super sweet and super hot lovers with a tiny bit of Christmasy magic thrown in.

I am so glad there wasn't a huge misunderstanding. I felt like it was coming but loved how it got resolved without any necessary angst.

Thank you, thank you for doing right by the Brother too. That was so uncool and needed to be dealt with.

My only regret is my memory. I can't recall the first two books at all and I wish I had at least refreshed my memory a bit due to the cameos. I may have to give them a re-read next year. Maybe I'll do a Christmas in July or something...

Overall this wasn't overly Christmasy but it was very enjoyable and heartwarming.

Sweet story about colleagues being enemies, becoming frenemies and ending up being boyfriends.

Being paired up on a project, graphic designer Adam and his colleague, marketing genius Jason have to work together in close quarters.
Office gossips creating assumptions, making both men want to prove that each is highly qualified.
But clearing the air between them and coming together with their own unique talents, they managed to create the perfect pitch.

Sadly, Adam's sister-in-law didn’t approve of Adam. Or rather, she didn’t approve of the fact that he was gay. Her refusal to accept Adam, is the final tipping point on his brother Jack's divorce scale.

While each book in the Ice and Snow Christmas Series can be read as a standalone, they are best enjoyed when read in order:

As far as Christmas series go I’m loving this one.

Adam and Jason are both good at what they do. Which is why they keep getting paired together at work. It’s just that they rub each other the wrong way.

They find themselves on the same team trying to win the special project. In the beginning they look more likely to kill each other before their project is complete. But then things change and they find out how effortless it is being together.

The question is will the truce only last as long as the project?

Another great one from Jocelynn! Adam and Jason's story is now one of my favorites, I love a great enemies-to-lovers type connection. From their first scene to their last I was hooked, funny moments mixed in with the Holiday season and you will read this in one night. Adam and Jason are different for sure and the way they take the attraction they have for each other to see what more there is out there is sweet and sour, romantic and sexy. Can't wait for the next. I voluntarily reviewed an 'Advance Author’s Copy' of this book.

After reading Jacks book I wanted to read about Adam and Jason.
I really liked this story as well ... but I liked Jack more.
The main reason for that is that I got the impression this was too short - I wanted to read more about their time together and about the campaign!!!!! Would have loved to read more about their work.
with Jack's story there was more development.
All in all a great story for days when you feel the need for love

Yep this is exactly what I needed right now. A sweet little low angsty holiday read. I loved the tension and dread between Adam and Jason when they got stuck working together on the company project to end all company projects. But of course all that antagonism was really just repressed sexual tension all rolled up and unacknowledged. I liked both of these guys and enjoyed seeing them navigate what a work/romance was really going to be like. Sure this was a little insta-lovey but it's a Christmas story so I don't care.

This is the third installment in Drake’s Ice and Snow Christmas series about Jason and Adam who are co-workers who don’t particularly like each other very much. I read the box set version of the story, so I’m not sure if it’s a different version than the original. The proofreading/editing was poorly done (2 chapter 6s, missing/wrong words, etc) and I don’t remember that being the case with other Drake books I’ve read. So, that was a surprise. Jason and Adam’s story was labeled as an “enemies to lovers story, which I usually steer clear of, but the enemies portion was short lived and I didn’t have to witness either of them being outright jerks to the other. There was some friction, but it was dealt with quickly.

At one point, our MCs attend the wedding of John and Oz from book two. That was nice to know about, but I was wondering why the Roland family was not present at the wedding. It was told in books one and two how John was Spenser’s “family because John didn’t have anyone but his sister. (Spenser’s story is book one in this series.) Anyway, I say this because it would have brought into play the whole fact that other work people, namely the CEO, would have been at this wedding when Jason wanted to keep their relationship secret. I felt like that piece was inconsistent with the other parts of the series.

I don’t mind insta-love stories when it feels like the relationship is developed well, and I felt like Drake did a great job of establishing a connection between these two MCs. Overall, I really enjoyed this addition to the Ice an Snow Christmas series, but book one is still my favorite.

Sweet ending to a Christmas series

I love Christmas stories and Jocelynn Drake is one of my favourite authors. I discovered Jocelynn’s Ice and Snow series last year and I read the first two books then. Each can stand alone quite easily.
Snowballs Chance is a lovely feel good story about Adam (who we have met before) and Jason, who are thrown together to work on a marketing team. I love that their romance develops through some realistic doubts. It wouldn’t be Jocelynn without some drama though, and I also liked the way pervasive silent homophobia is shown, and dealt with. I love the cameo appearance from the guys in the other two books as well. Apart from a few serious moments this is a straightforward contemporary Christmas romance. Loved it!
