Generations of secrets. An ancient curse. Love has never been an option.

Lauren Ambrose has made a life for herself as a fledging artist, far from the ancient secrets and cobwebbed past of her family’s historic estate in Texas. Generations of the Ambrose women have suffered at the hands of a curse, and the last place Lauren wants to spend time is at the Ambrose Estate, among the tragedies of the past. But when her grandmother, matriarch of the Ambrose fortune, requires Lauren to attend an urgent business meeting, she reluctantly travels home.

Nick Matthews is ready for a battle. Lillian Ambrose, co-founder of Ambrose Oil, has agreed to hear his investment idea, but no one has ever successfully partnered with the business tycoon. When he arrives at Ambrose Estate, prepared with weeks of research, the last person he expects to meet is Lauren, a dynamic and captivating woman with a past full of secrets. As Nick gets to know Lauren, he discovers she is mostly perfect for him, except for one, major drawback . . . The curse that has the power to destroy everything between them.

This was a perfect book to snuggle up with and get lost in this week. Life has been busy and crazy for several weeks and I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed my time disappearing into the world of the Ambrose family and estate.

If you've read the first book, that one really delved deeper into the history of the family, the estate and the curse. This book alluded to the curse and some of the family history but focused more on Lauren and Nick. Their learning to adjust to life and to keep moving forward.

If you've read books by Heather B. Moore, then you'll know she's a master storyteller. She knows how to create characters that are easily relatable, and who make you want to cheer for them. And yes, I was cheering for them! How could I not? I loved Lauren and her goodness. She exuded peace and acceptance for what her life was. Did she have longings and desires for more? Yes. But she had learned to find something to make her happy and content with what her life was. If that's vague, the only hint I'll give is, the curse. Duh, duh, duhhhhhhh! *Cue ominous music* ;-)

And Nick, well Nick was Nick. As another reviewer said...Nick, oh Nick, oh Nick! Hahahaha! Not only does Heather B. Moore write great characters, but she writes great romance for said characters. I always know going into reading one of her books I'm going to be smiling and giggling and sighing over the sweet romance between the couple. Lauren and Nick were funny. They harbored some misgivings and heartache. But they also found enjoyment in the moments that they could. I loved their banter. I loved their friendship. I loved their sweet and tender friendship. I loved their beautiful love story.

There were plenty of ups and downs throughout this one. But the resolution was fabulous! The family of both Lauren and Nick had some humorous moments, some frustrating moments, but most importantly some redemptive moments.

If you haven't read either of the books, do it! I love the writing for both of these authors so for me it's an instant read and enjoy! You can read them alone if you don't want to read them in order, or both of them. There are more books coming in this series and I can't wait to dive into the other sister's stories. The women of Ambrose are plucky and resourceful women. The matriarch of the family taught them well. I hope we'll continue to see her in the forthcoming books as well.

Content: Clean. Some sweet kisses but nothing further.

I received a copy from the author. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.

Happy Reading!!!

2021: I listened to the audiobook. It was nice to read this again, I'd forgotten some things. I liked the narrator and liked that she didn't overdo the Texas accent for the family matriarch.

The saga of the Ambrose women continues with Lauren's story, which is written by one of my favorite authors. Lauren's an artist and really different than her older sister Sofia (who we met in ). She doesn't let people know she's an Ambrose, she's learned people tend to treat you differently when they know you come from wealth, and she never goes on more than five dates with a guy because of the whole curse thing. Lauren's not sure why her grandmother summoned her to Ambrose Estate, but when she gets there she's not happy to discover the venture capitalist her grandmother wants to do business with is Nicholas Matthews.

I loved Lauren and Nicholas' first meeting--arguing over a cab--and that he knew exactly who she was, but she didn't know him from Adam. Their second meeting in the library was also pretty good when she "uninvites" him to Ambrose Estate to give his business proposal. Sparks were flying.

What can I say about Nick that hasn't already been said by other reviewers? He's about as perfect as a guy can be. Even though he and Lauren had a super rocky start he came when she called in the middle of the night. As someone else said "he pays attention to the small things", what woman wouldn't fall for that kind of guy? I also loved that he kept buying her paintings, and not because he's a nice guy. Nick has his work cut out for him if he's going to win Lauren over to his side, as she's never allowed herself to fall for anyone because of that blasted curse. Speaking of the dreaded curse, I wondered what she would have to do to break it; I figured it out about the same time she did.

I really like this new series, I know I say that about every series Heather B. Moore writes but she knows how to write characters that make me care about them. I can't wait to read about the other Ambrose sisters and what they'll do to break the curse.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are mine.

Book 2 in the Women of Ambrose Estate. I finished Mostly Dangerous and couldn't stop myself from picking this up right away. It has a bit less of the sense of dark mystery that Mostly Dangerous had, but was still very gripping.

Lauren Ambrose is an artist, like most of her sisters, she has stayed away from the Ambrose Estate, and from relationships in general, trying to avoid the Ambrose curse. Lauren meets Nick Matthews when he pitches a business partnership to her grandmother. She wants to protect her grandmother from someone she thinks will take advantage of her. After their first meeting, Lauren runs into Nick when they're both back home in San Fransisco, and she starts to realize that he might not be the mercenary businessman she first made him out to be.

I liked how Lauren and Nick dealt with the curse differently than Sofia. I liked their romance, the chemistry, and the different obstacles that they faced to their relationship. While you could read this book independently, I'd recommend reading Mostly Dangerous first.

Content: clean (some kissing, no language, no violence)

Romance, clean; series, but stand alone read
Lauren and Nick's story with alternating points of view, is a wonderfully written romance with a bit of mystery mixed in. The mystery is really a side note to their building relationship.
As they meet at the airport in Lauren's hometown, their attraction is well described. The impediments to their relationship, the family curse and business dealings, resolve over the course of the novel. What makes this perfect is their moments. Nick's gentlemanly demeanor, his sincere efforts to 'see' her, both of their attractions to each other, and of course, their undeniable attraction and the chemistry between them that develops the more time that they spend together. Fortunate for them that they live in the same city, and as fate throws them together initially, then as Nick seeks Lauren out, the lovely, honest, heartfelt, and romantic moments naturally come about as they spend more time together. Lovely, sweet, honest and well done! I will definitely be reading more in this series.
I received an ARC but my opinions are my own, and in no way influenced by this, other than the pleasure of reading.

Nick, Nick, I love Nick. 😍 And yeah. That's how I'm going to start out my review. I love Nick because he pays attention. It's all in the small things.

The idea behind this series is a fun one. This is the second book in the series and I have to say that I didn't read the first book by a different author. I started it but didn't finish it. It just wasn't pulling me in like I wanted and honestly I just don't have time for books that don't click for me. I knew I would like this one because I haven't read a Heather B. Moore book that I didn't like.

There is a family curse that haunts the Ambrose sisters. It means no falling in love and no getting married. Lauren has been able to stick to the rules until Nick. Nick is just determined to win Lauren over. He is persistent, kind and demonstrative but Lauren is rightly freaked out by the curse and can't help herself- pushing men away is what she does.

The story was frustrating and it was sweet. I am very interested in the remaining Ambrose sisters now! I want to know how each of them will deal with love and the curse.

While I didn't care for the writing style of the previous book in the series which is written by a different author, I think it helped me to understand the backstory of the family and the curse when I read this book. I loved Lauren's personality and her quiet confidence in herself. She knows what she wants and what she likes. It was easy for me to relate to her boho artistic vibe. Nick is definitely too good to be true! He is kind, charming, and intrigued by how different Lauren is from the rest of her family. It was pretty sweet how much he loved her art and kept reappearing in her life. Her fear of a long-term relationship because of the curse was hard to swallow, but it's the premise of this slightly paranormal series, so I just had to run with it. Overall it was just fun to read about two interesting people falling in love and how they overcame their hangups.

Dallas

-‘“He’s a swindler, Grandma, Sofia said. “I looked him up, and he takes over companies and crushes them. Turns them over to someone else, making money. He’s nothing but a used-car salesman. He doesn’t care about this land or our legacy.”-

This is Lauren’s story. When a venture capitalist comes calling, intrigued by the possibility of more oil to be refined at Ambrose Estates, grand-daughters Sofia and Lauren don’t trust the man as far as they can throw him. And that’s just what they hope to do: throw him out!

-‘He was a bloodsucking, pompous, interfering . . .-

I’m very pleased that the books match each other in style, despite being written by different authors. There is a smooth flow from one story to another. This reminds me of the old show from the 80s ‘Dallas.
Well-written and recommended. This is a clean romance.

Enjoyed listening to this fun, swoony romance with a hint of the supernatural thrown in. Lauren Ambrose is the granddaughter of an oil empire matriarch. There’s a curse on the men of the Ambrose Estate; they die early. Lauren has sworn off marriage because she doesn’t want to risk losing someone she loves. She’s an artist living in San Diego and prefers to keep a low profile. When she’s summoned back to Texas, she shares a ride with a handsome, charming man who happens to live in San Diego as well. But, Lauren has no time for an ill-fated romance. Imagine her surprise when the handsome stranger shows up at Ambrose Estate.

Nick Matthews is an investment broker. He sees Ambrose Oil as out-of-date but with the potential to make an even bigger fortune. When he shares an Uber with an intriguing woman, he’s immediately interested in her. His interest grows when he learns she’s Lillian Ambrose’s granddaughter. As he gets to know Lauren better and passion flares between them, he’s determined to find a way to break the curse.

I liked both Lauren and Nick. Nick is thoughtful, handsome, and the proverbial dream. I loved that he was always upfront with Lauren about his business dealings and there were never big secrets between them. I loved the way he was willing to let Lauren ultimately choose her own destiny. Lauren has grown up with this curse and so I can’t blame her for believing it, but I wanted her to fight more instead of passively accepting it. I liked Nick’s persistence and Lauren’s willingness to finally open her heart. The curse and the breaking of it stretch the imagination a little bit, but it adds a fun element to the story. I enjoyed the side characters including feisty Lillian Ambrose.

There are plenty of passionate kisses in this romance, but it’s definitely clean. The audiobook version was enjoyable to listen to. The narrator had a more sultry sounding voice that lent itself well to this story. I sped up the narration to 1.25 and it was the perfect speed for me. She does a good job of distinguishing each character. If you like narrators with a more mellow sounding voice, you’ll enjoy this. While it’s the second book in the series, it can definitely be read as a standalone.

It’s a fun story and I’m looking forward to the other books in the series. I received a complimentary copy of the audiobook from the author. All opinions are my own and I am voluntarily leaving my review.

I listened to this on Audible. The narrator has a southern accent, but it isn't quite right for the Texas setting. This was a minor thing though and I got used to the narrator's voice.

In Mostly Perfect, Lauren has no interest in marriage primarily due to a believed family curse. Lauren comes from a very wealthy family and has a controlling interest in the family business. Nick, also wealthy, meets Lauren when he pursues buying her family business.

This romance novel was quite different than the historical fiction novel I've read by the author.

My gratitude to Heather B Moore for a complimentary audio copy of the novel. I was not required to post a review and all opinions expressed are my own.

Wow!

I’m so glad I found this book, I actually found this then looked for book one - I like to read sisters in order. Mostly Dangerous, by Kimberly Montpetit, started us off very well then Ms Moore carried the ball here. Lauren Ambrose is an artist who paints miniatures. Nick is a venture capitalists who wants to be in business with the Ambrose matriarch. I love how organically they traveled from meet to match through front to know each other to learning details of “The Curse. I would maybe subtract 1/4 star because of how Kevin the Jerk disappeared, but it was a minor blip and I loved everything else about this story! Not I have to wait a month for the next installment? 😬

DELIGHTFUL! This book is one in a series of the Women of Ambrose Estate. There are five daughters in the family which has been cursed for many years. It was such a wonderful read. The books stand alone but having read Mostly Dangerous first helped a lot with the background information. The characters were so much fun. I loved Lauren and her guarded artistic heart. I loved Nick's kindness and honesty. Great plot!

Do you believe in curses? Well, the Ambrose women definitely have a curse that's extended through the family for generations and it basically means they can't fall in love and get married or something tragic will happen. A hilarious mistaken encounter between Lauren and Nick is all it takes for the chemistry to start to sizzle, but it can't. And that's sooo frustrating because Nick is the catch of a lifetime.

Lauren is a strong-willed woman and doesn't like to rely on her family wealth, but has found her niche in the art community. Artists are passionate, right? Well, this one is and that spills over in her friendship with Nick, whom I absolutely adored. The swoon is definitely strong with this one!

I thought the secrets and curse would play a bigger role, but the romance definitely stole the show for me and I wasn't mad about it. The characters are strong and the subtle hints are intriguing. I haven't read Book 1 yet and need to fix that because I'm very curious about this family of sisters and how the curse will affect them all.

Content: mild+ romance (some innuendo, kissing, swoony)

I liked this book quite a bit better than the first one in the series; it had a lighter tone to it and just seemed a better fit for my tastes. I thought the plot flowed well, and the romance was really delightful. I liked how Nick was willing to put himself out there and be open with his feelings, and Lauren's hesitancy to get involved with people (but her inability to resist Nick) was well-developed. The romance was sweet and the chemistry was great without being too hot and I definitely can recommend this to readers looking for a quick romantic escape.

I read an ARC provided by the publisher. All opinions are my own.

Another delightful book in the Ambrose series.
I wasn't able to put it down, I just had to know how Nick and Lauren were going to make it past the curse, if at all!
I liked the development of the storyline and the characters. How both beautiful, rich people were able to use it for the good of others and stay "untouched". I also liked how the distance both experienced with family members was a bit of "reality" in a fictional book.
There is a good mixture of drama, romance and joy.
I look forward to more of the series!

I enjoyed this book. It was a great continuation of this women of Ambrose series. I liked watching the relationship between Nick and Lauren progress. From meeting on through. It was great to see Nick realize Lauren's hold ups and still pursue and encourage her, with patience of course. I was glad I had read the first book, it led to greater understanding of this book. Can't wait for the rest of the series to come out.

Having read Mostly Dangerous, the first book in this series, I was looking forward to the second book. I surprised myself by finishing it in two days, a record for me! I fell in love with this book as quickly as Lauren fell in love with Nick. I truly could not put it down. The book is well written and moves along quickly. It builds on the two main characters in the previous book, Sophia and Grandmother Ambrose, so we get to know them better as well.
I wasn’t sure how this would work since there are two authors working on this series, each taking turns with the books. I enjoyed Kimberly Montpetit’s writing so much on the first book that I was surprised to find the story flowed flawlessly and Heather Moore did a fantastic job on the second. Of course, I am now looking forward to the next two books in this series and can’t wait until they are available.

This series is amazing for a number of reasons! The first one is that you can read each book as a stand alone. Having read them all is nice to tie things together, but it is absolutely not necessary. The Ambrose curse has been hard at work for years and no men tied to an Ambrose girl has lived to tell about it. So Lauren shies away from the one man who shows he cares, but does he? Is he interested in her for her family's money and business or does he actually care for her? And if he does, how can she actually be with Nick because the curse will kill him; it is only a matter of time. The world building is fantastic and I was completely swept away into the Ambrose world! If you love a book with substance that is easy to read and will have the pages flying, then this is definitely the book for you! I received a copy of this book for free; all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Update: I won an audio version of this book and I loved it. The narrator did a great job.

This is a stand alone but I suggest reading the first one first. I think the curse makes more sense in the first one than if you read this one without that previous background. Just my opinion.

I like the premise of this series. It is unique. The curse itself is rather mystical and in this book there is a little unexplainable twist at the end of the story. The writing is good and the story does not drag. The two main characters are likable though we have to wonder about Nick in the beginning. But he turns out to be an okay guy. Looking forward to reading about the other granddaughters as well.

No sex, language or violence

Mostly Perfect: The Women of Ambrose Estate by Heather B. Moore (4.5 stars)

I liked that there was angst but, just like in book one, it was mostly on the heroine’s side. Nick knew that he felt differently about Lauren and was ready to pursue her. At the same time, when the curse is revealed in its entirety, he waits, hoping but not knowing if she’ll come around.

The fulfilling of the curse is cool; not as heart-wrenching as the first book’s was, but certainly more creepy and mysterious.

A hard-to-put-down read! You can’t go wrong with a Heather B. Moore book!

I love Heather B. Moore’s books! She is such a talented writer. She creates characters that I come to love and care about, as well as weaving an intriguing story with a sweet romance.

I like the fact that you can read this book and it stands on its own; you don't HAVE to read the other ones to understand the backstory or what's happening. This story also made me excited and want to read the other books in the series to see what happens to each of the Ambrose sisters and not just Lauren and Nick.

I recommend this book for any of those that like romance mixed romance it’s intrigue and adventure.

I enjoyed getting to know Lauren and her down to earth personality. She is the 2nd of the Ambrose sisters who are trapped by the Ambrose family curse. Nick is powerful and ambitious yet treats Lauren gently and protects her fiercely. I loved watching these two people who are independent and each used to calling the shots learn how to relate to each other. Their witty banter and strong attraction made for a fun story. I learned a new twist about the Ambrose curse in this story that makes me wonder how things turn out for the others affected by the curse. Looking forward to more in this series!

Lauren is an artist and tends to ignore her rich upbringing. Her Grandmother is one of the most wealthiest women in Texas. Her grandmother calls her home to talk about a possible partnership. Nick is in the business of taking over companies to make a profit. His father taught him well and Nick is all about the research of getting it right to present his plan to Lauren’s Grandmother and the Ambrose empire. There is a curse that all of the Ambrose men seem to die young. Can the strong attraction between Nick and Lauren overcome the business and the curse?

I liked this one a little better than the first one. Lauren is very closed off and very afraid to let anyone get too close to her emotionally because of the curse. This is the second book in the series, and I loved it. I can't wait for the next book to come out. Although this book wasn't as dark as the first, I loved Lauren's story. Lauren doesn't let anyone get close to her, because of the Ambrose curse, she doesn't commit to dating past a few dates, but Nick Matthews might just be the exception. I loved that the story shared both points of view.
