Heidi Joblowski has her life perfectly on track. Education: check. Career: check. Marriage: soon-to-be checked. Has she missed anything? Yes, actually: Kyle Trapper. Tall, blue-eyed, blond hottie. Check, check, check! The problem? She's just about to marry Kyle's best friend, Jesse. But that doesn't stop her and Kyle from indulging in some incredibly perfect sex....
Hmm. With her careful life plan off track, Heidi needs a new blueprint, and fast. And it just doesn't have room for Kyle Trapper in it.
Unless, of course, he has anything to say about it. Which he does--every time he lures her back to his bed!
Author Tori Carrington is the penname of husband and wife writing team Lori and Tony Karayianni.
Hands down, penning a bio is always the most difficult writing challenge we take on. What do we say? What do we keep a secret? Considering we've been writing together for over twenty-two years...well, that reveals more about us than anything you'll likely read here. We're fiction writers simply because we enjoy escaping into an exciting, colorful, fictional world of our own making. Take great, shameless pleasure in delving into the lives of others. Revel in living vicariously through our characters, trying on career hats we'd never otherwise put on, stretching muscles we'd probably be better off excercising in reality. We won't even discuss how our writing allows us to voice opinions on society, romance and human sexuality that aren't subject to public ridicule but rather presented as entertainment. To go there, well, we'd be revealing a little too much, now, wouldn't we?
So we'll stick to just the facts, ma'am -- or sir, depending on your preference, which may or may not have anything to do with your sex. Should you desire more information, feel free to e-mail us and we'll provide you with our phone number, or -- our preference -- arrange to meet with you one-on-one where we can learn as much, or perhaps more, about you as you will about us. Depending on our mood, we may spill everything we'd prefer to keep a secret, like which traits we would change about the other if given half a chance. Likewise, we may wisecrack our way through the interview, sprinkle our responses with what we find exciting about our latest book, and blissfully skate over personal details that might bare a little too much.
Trust us, this is not an attempt to create an aura of mystery. We're not quite that saavy. No, we're just very protective of our evolving selves and consider ourselves open-minded, known to change an opinion the moment we voice it or are presented with further information, so we're hesitant to commit any to writing. Guess we're very Socrates-like (as opposed to Socratic) in that way, which isn't altogether a bad thing..
So rather than dictate to you here, we'll lay out the basic facts, then provide a number of links to others who have interviewed us.
I'm (Lori Schlachter Karayianni) a Holy Toledo, Ohio, native, having attended Central Catholic but ultimately graduating from Macomber-Whitney with certification in computer science. After working in the computer industry for a number of years -- and after Tony and I endeavored to write our first novel -- I switched to temp work which ultimately led to a four-year stint as a secretary/sales clerk in the engineering and international sales departments of Owens-Illinois, the international container company that put the "glass" into The Glass City. I put the brakes on before I reached the five-year mark, however, the point of no return for most dreamers who get caught in the corporate trap (more vacation time? Better benefits? Probably I should stay until retirement).
Tony's background couldn't be more different from mine, but thankfully it led him to me. Born in Smila, a small hillside village in the area of Ancient Olympia outside Pyrgos, Greece, (where his family has deep roots and an older brother still maintains the family olive groves) he was raised in Athens during a time of political and cultural upheaval, although neither stopped him from becoming a drummer in a successful pop band that often played with Greek singer Teris Chrysos. He immigrated to the U.S. in late 1976 and with the help of the Greek community achieved the American Dream. Only the hunger for something more, the restless searching that originally compelled him to turn his back on his successful music career and brought him here, remained. It wasn't until after we'd become a couple, and he turned to me and suggested that we try our hand at writing, that both of us discovered the true meaning of th
I typically really enjoy this author, but the topic of 'acceptable cheating' in this book wasn't for me. The hero/heroine cheats on her fiance/his best friend - who is also a liar and cheater. And the hero used to lie for the best friend so he could cheat on the fiance. No one is particular upstanding or honest, so I didn't warm up to anyone in this book. But hey, the sex was hot - if you can handle a sex scene on a public men's bathroom wall & floor. That one didn't do it for me as I could just imagine the smell and the sticky floors.... Ick. But like I said, the author is usually a winner so I will read more. I just have to pay better attention to the storyline before buying.
In this novel, the heroine (Heidi) ends up cheating on her fiance. That's a no-no for most people, me included, but in this case I made an exception because her fiance was such a jerk. The cheating aspect didn't detract from the book for me, and Heidi and Kyle felt appropriately guilty about it.
It's a Harlequin Blaze, so you know it's hot. All I can say is, the bathroom scene was OUTSTANDING!
This book was tepid for me. All the characters were morally questionable, which made it difficult for me to connect with any of them. (Please don't misunderstand; I love morally-grey characters. But these characters were just...not good people. I found it hard to see any redeeming characteristics in them.) The spicy scenes were fast-paced and hot, but one happened inside a public restroom, and it just felt very icky. Not my cup of tea, but reviews are subjective. Someone else may love this book.
Outside of the storyline given in the description, this book doesn't have any triggers to my knowledge.
I only want to complain again about not me being able to read the book I chose. Each time I clicked on read, I don't see where I can read from. Where am I supposed to read from when I click on read?
Heidi is sort of OCD - she has plans for her life and those include marrying her long-time, high-school sweetheart, Jesse. He works in Boston, while she lives in Fantasy, Michigan, so their relationship has been long distance...but he's back and so is his friend, Kyle. Kyle has always been sort of cold tpwards her, but she had no idea it was because he was attracted to her. And she realizes that she's equally attracted to him. Suddenly, Heidi is faced with the decision of whether to give up on her pre-planned future with Jesse and the comfort and stability that would ensure or to throw it all away on the passion and intensity she feels with Kyle.
I will say that this author puts out some very good writing. I was engaged throughout the story and found scenes to be quite passionate and chemistry to be intense. My problem was that I couldn't get past the total lack of morality on the part of just about all characters in the book. There's Heidi who has sex with her fiance's best friend, repeatedly and contemplates never telling him. There's Kyle who repeatedly makes a play for his best friend's fiance knowing that she's engaged and conflicted about sleeping with him. Does that stop him trying? No. I'll grant that he gets to play the "I-Love-You" card and I'd take it easy on him, but that doesn't excuse the other issue. Kyle has been covering for Jesse's infidelity for nearly 8 years. Instead of manning up and refusing to aid him in his asshole behavior, he went ahead and helped him. To me, it says a lot that Kyle would be a party to lying to an innocent woman and would even remain friends with Jesse in the first place.
And then there's Jesse, who went off to college, supposedly in love with his girl, and was unfaithful nearly the entire time. And this is where the ending just kills me. I hated how Jesse and Heidi just kiss and make up and retain their friendship like he wasn't lying to her for 8 years. His excuse that at first it was just sex with Mona (the OW) should have made Heidi even angrier. That meant that while he supposedly loved Heidi, he was unfaithful, not for love, but just for some sex. Even if she was no longer in love with him, that is a HUGE betrayal to their friendship. So I couldn't understand that at all. So I wasn't able to connect with these characters and really feel like anything they did mattered. Though I will give the author major props for this: she is awesome at creating deeply flawed characters who seem to lack morality and turning them around - making them see how truly awful they have been and improving them. For me though, it's too late for me to like them by then.

Good, semi-quick read. It covers some of what happens between Shameless and Restless by the same author. Loved Kyle, sort of hated Jesse, because he lied first. The ending could have used something better, but it was good enough considering the other 2 books.
Lying and cheating and sex in public restrooms. Not really my idea of a good time. This husband-wife writing duo is usually really good, and this book isn't a deal-breaker for me. Just not my cup of tea.
I read a romance! It was fun. I would say that if you haven't ever read a romance novel, this or one of the books in this series would be a fun one to try. Quick read and entertaining.
