As the new owner of Stronghold Investigations, Bexley Squires struggles to solve her biggest mystery yet—one that hits far too close to home.
Amidst revisiting a painful past and planning for a potentially more painful future with Brewer Hawkins, Bexley’s given unfortunate news that changes everything. While attempting to make sense of an unfathomable scenario, she’s offered a substantial reward to solve a case for a mob princess that involves the upmost secrecy.
By the time she discovers an inanimate object is the key—pun intended—to something more substantial than a simple theft, it’ll be too late. She’ll find herself knee-deep in another family’s war while trying to make peace with her own.

Ohmygoodness...this is my favorite Bexley book so far, which I always think when I finish one until I read the next one, but this time, this one really pulled on my heart strings AND had a fantastic story line with two great mysteries in it to be figured out. The ending is absolutely perfect and gives you plenty of feels. This book really does have it all, humor and snark with Bexley's personality which totally add to this series so much, heart with a love story thrown in the mix and plenty of suspense and mystery to keep you guessing until the end. I can't wait to find out what's in store next for Bexley (and of course Brewer). This series is so good, I think it would make a fantastic Netflix series!!!
Every time I finish a book in this series, I think damn that was a great book, that one is my favorite. Well, hello broken record…because book four is now my new favorite!
Bexley Squires is now the sole owner of Stronghold Investigations and she is out to make a name for herself! This time around she has her hands full once again trying to decipher who is telling the truth and who is telling the lies even if that person is her!
Lies, secrets and truths are just waiting around every corner for Bexley to solve and uncover, some will be painful, some will lead to more questions and others will set her and the Stronghold Investigation client free.
Bexley’s relationship with hottie Brewer Hawkins is quite literally hanging in the balance. This teeter-totter, push and pull relationship had me even crying at one point. I really felt bad for both of them. I wasn’t moving from my couch until I read the entire book, as I needed to know what happened between them asap.
Ms. Avery also left me with a few lingering questions running in my mind in regards to her family and Sadie. I don’t want to give much away about this because I don’t want to leave any spoilers. Ms. Avery seems to like to keep a little mystery alive at the end of her stories. Well Done!
4th book of The Bexley Squires books and I found it to have good development on “Brexley aka Brewer and Bexley’s relationship- the two of them working together while Bexley dealt emotionally/professionally with her father’s murder and the days before Brewer serves his time in prison, solidifying their long term relationship. We ended book 4 with the introduction to “Captain! 🐕 will Cap round our Bexley’s PI crew and will the Brexley.IPR survive- maybe the final book #5 will share their Inmate Partner Relationship POV!!??
*Side storyline (and the book title) was the hired PI job of discovering the real lock for the key that was the was taken from Elizabeth and her soulmate/catfish??? 💀🗝
