My reviews can also be seen at:

Janey Markham and her family just moved into their new home on Buckingham Crescent. Janey’s husband, Isaac recently started a new job with a much higher salary which was how they could afford the move to this upscale neighborhood.

Janey’s mother passed away four months earlier. Just before she died, she told Janey a secret she’d been keeping for many years. She also gave Janey a box and told her that the contents would explain everything. So far, Janey hasn’t felt strong enough to open it.

Janey's eight-year-old son, Rowan is nervous about being the new kid at his new school. Janey is also worried that she won't fit in with the local mothers. Then Janey meets Tanya. Tanya really helps Janey settle in. Janey's husband, Isaac worked late almost every night at his previous job. He tells her this time their family will be his priority. Unfortunately, so far nothing has changed. Janey can tell something is bothering Isaac and he keeps warning her not to get to close to their new neighbors.

Janey and Tanya's friendship grows. Janey feels she can trust Tanya. But then one night after a few drinks, Janey shares something very personal. Immediately she regrets it, but Tanya promises she won’t say a word to anyone. But something happens that has Janey terrified her secret past is going to come out.

Janey will soon realize she’s not the only one keeping secrets. Around here, EVERYONE had a skeleton or two.

This was a fast-paced and easy read. There were some good twists and an intriguing story-line that held my interest from start to finish. Most of the novel is told from Janey’s perspective. We learn about Janey’s past and her life with her mother. I was curious about the big deathbed secret. I made plenty of guesses, but I wasn’t even close. I couldn’t wait to read how everything would come together in the end.

Another engrossing and entertaining read from K.L Slater!

I'd like to thank the publisher for providing me with a copy of this novel. All opinions are my own.

New, Neighborhood, New Home, New School, New Life......

Sounds like a dream, but will it be everything she hoped it would be?

Janey Markman is happy that her family is moving to Buckingham Crescent, a highly desirable address in a fabulous suburb. She has been under stress lately, having cared for her mother during the final stages of her life. On her deathbed, her Mother shares a secret with her - a very shocking secret.

But now that her husband has been offered a new job, with more pay, things are looking up. It's time for Janey and Isaac (her husband) to re-connect and for them to have a better life. Janey is soon befriended by Tanya a woman on her street and Janey is happy to finally have a friend and acceptance. After enjoying some wine, Janey tells Tanya her secret...oops...but Tanya is her friend, so she does not have anything to worry about, does she?

Then there is her husband and his long hours and strange behavior...is that something to worry about?

This one started a little slow for me but once Janey got settled on Buckingham Crescent, I got settled in with this book and found myself getting enamored with it just as Janey was getting enamored by her new friends. After the slow start, this turned into a fast read for me. This book is entertaining and light. It hits the spot right now providing the perfect escape from everyday life.
I had no idea what was going on and had the wool pulled over my eyes. Another solid book by Slater.

Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.

EXCERPT: When I turn around I see there are lots of parents on the playground now. They all seem to be watching me with interest, and it's eerily quiet compared to the usual background chatter at pick up time.

I head for the Buckingham mums group, immediately noticing that Tanya isn't among them. I nod to a couple of parents I recognize on my way over, but I can't fail to notice there's a definite chill in the air, despite the warmth of the sunshine.

I stop in my tracks as I see someone walking towards me. Small and thin, Jasper's mum's face is twisted and pale.

'The other parents told me! I know all about you . . . who you are,' she says breathlessly. 'You had no right to be near my son. Don't you think he has enough problems?'

'Charlie,' I say calmly, ignoring the rush of heat in my face. 'I owe you and Jasper an apology. Shall we take this inside?'

I'm desperate to avoid putting on a show for everyone here.

'Is it true?' she says, her voice cold. 'What they're saying about you?'

MY THOUGHTS: I tend to run hot and cold with Kim Slater's books. Never icy cold, because she's a good writer, but lukewarm. And I am afraid that I am only lukewarm about her latest, Little Whispers.

There is a lot of dialogue in this book, and I mean a lot, and it is exceedingly difficult to create an atmosphere by dialogue alone. That is what is missing from Little Whispers - atmosphere. It is decidedly absent despite the Real Housewives merging with a Trumpesque business empire setting. Or perhaps because of it.

I really didn't warm to any of the characters, other than Angel, the teenage daughter of Tanya, spoiled but with an ambition her mother regards as beneath her. I found Janey quite immature in an 'I want, I want, I want it all' kind of way, and yet she was so wonderful with Jasper.

The overall idea was great. I just think it could have been done better. The occasional flashbacks with Susan didn't add a lot to the story and, although it all ties in at the end, were repetitive and not particularly useful.

This is a fast, easy read. Ideal for that situation where you need a read that is not too demanding.

This is not a psychological thriller. Not by any stretch of the imagination. Nor is it breathtaking. It is an okay read, but not one that I will be rushing to recommend. Slater can write and has written much better.

😐😐😐

I'm always happy to read a new Slater book and this one is filled with secrets, gossip, and lies.

I felt some vibes of Big, Little Lies with the school moms, "in" groups and so many secrets from the past. Janey is new in town and doesn't seem to fit in with the glam yoga moms. She will develop a friendship with one of them though and over a bit too much wine, she shares a deep dark secret.

Her husband, Isaac is also acting very strange. What is he hiding?

It was an entertaining and light read with an ending that surprised me.

Thanks so much Bookouture for my review copy! Out on May 21, 2020

Janey’s mother keeps a terrible secret until she’s on her death bed, now she carries a diabolical burden. To make a fresh start Janey, her husband Isaac and young son Rowan move from Mansfield to affluent West Bridgford, Nottingham when Isaac gets a dream job with a good salary. They move into a nice house although it’s considerably smaller than some of the ‘footballers wives gated mansions on Buckingham Crescent . There she meets some designer mums who vary in the warmth of their judgemental welcome. Eventually, she becomes friendly with Edie and Tanya who spend their husbands earnings lavishly . One booze fuelled afternoon Janey makes a mistake along the lines of ‘You can trust me ... I won’t breathe a word ....your secrets safe with me and so she offloads her burden and immediately regrets it. Little did she know just how serious an error of judgement this would prove to be as her world unravels and her secret is used against her and Isaac. . Janey narrates her story.

This is an entertaining, easy read which perfectly suits the mindset of right now. I always like reading K L Slater partly because I was born in West Bridgford so I take especially pleasure in strolling down Central Avenue with Janey! Janey’s optimism at the start of the move is well captured and I can picture the eying up and down on the first day of school for Rowan from the designer mums! The clique of Tanya is easy to imagine too and it’s easy to see why Janey gets sucked in especially when you want a fresh start. You realise fairly quickly that Isaac’s job is not what it seems and I like the intrigue of that. The story has a number of twists and revelations and I did not see those coming!

There are a number of morals to the tale - beware of false friends, all that glitters is most definitely not always gold and the most important one, understanding and accepting the past and not making yourself a victim of it. Recommended for fans of K L Slater and this genre.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC.

After having read Single by K. L. Slater, I was really excited to delve into Little Whispers and was not disappointed. This book instantly reminded me of Big Little Lies. (I haven't read the book but I've watched the show.)

The story begins with Janey's mother telling her a secret before she dies. We don't find out until the end what the secret is but we see Janey struggling with it as the story progresses. Her husband, Isaac has secured a new job with a high salary which makes it possible for them to move to a high-end neighbourhood, Buckingham Crescent in West Bridgford, Nottingham. Janey's son Rowan starts to attend the school there which leads to her meeting the other 'Buckingham mums', Tanya, Edie and Ky. They form a perfect clique and spend time together gossiping and shopping. A lot of ominous warning signs are ignored by Janey and she drunkenly confides her secret in Tanya who promises not to tell anyone. With Isaac acting strangely and the fear that her secret could be revealed to the world any day, Janey's new life seems more and more like a curse.

I finished this book in a day because I couldn't stop reading. That's one thing about K. L. Slater's stories—they're rightly called unputdownable on the cover. If I'm being honest, the reveal and the story as a whole isn't mind blowing but Slater's style of writing and the drama surrounding each character makes it really gripping and enjoyable.

If you've enjoyed Slater's works in the past, I would definitely recommend this one!

K.L. Slater's latest novel is a mix of domestic drama and thriller with no one quite being who they seem and secrets being kept with far reaching consequences.

When Janey's husband starts a new job the family move into a bigger house in a smarter neighbourhood in a new town. Dropping her son at his new school, Janey meets some of her neighbours, well dressed women who she feels are out of her class, but seem eager to befriend her. While she is settling in to her new house, social life and a new job, she is concerned that something is wrong with her husband Isaac who is working longer and longer hours and is stressed and worried. She's also still getting over the death of her mother a few months ago and the terrible secret her mother told her just before she died.

This novel is slowly addictive as you want to find out if Janey's neighbours are really all they seem to be, what Isaac is hiding from her and what terrible secret her mother kept until she was dying. The plot moves along at a good pace and the stunning climax clicked all the pieces very believably into place.

With thanks to Bookouture and Netgalley for a digital ARC to read

I am a big fan of KL Slater, having read and enjoyed all of her books. She is an author that I will never hesitate to read or recommend. Little Whispers is a twisty domestic thriller that will keep you guessing right until the very end. It is a book that I read quickly, caught up in what was happening

Janey is excited when her husband is offered a new job with a substantial pay increase. They move to a new, flash home in Buckinghamshire Crescent. At first she struggles to fit in with the clique of school mums, but she soon becomes friendly with Tanya down the road. Soon she feels better about herself than she has in years, and her confidence is high. One afternoon after a few glasses of wine she confides a family secret to Tanya. But nothing is as it seems on this street, and nobody is who they seem. Be careful who you trust.

Thanks to Bookouture and Netgalley for my advanced copy of this book to read. All opinions are my own and are in no way biased.

Glamour, manipulation, blackmail, lies. K L Slater has written a captivating and entertaining twisted domestic thriller. Janey and her family have moved to a new upscale town into a gorgeous home. At first she gets a cold vibe from the neighborhood moms. So when Tonya start reaching out to Janey she is more than eager. Now Janey is one of the cool kids play dates, shopping trips, mom’s nights out. Then one night after several glasses of wine Janey spills a big dark secret. But she can trust her new Besties, can’t she? And this is only half of it Jney’s husband Isaac has also been acting very strange. Perhaps this move, was a bad idea?

This was an entertaining fast-paced domestic thriller. I was furiously turning the pages, just waiting for the other shoe to drop. I completely did not fault Janey for embracing these new “friendships but I just knew it would be her downfall. What I did not see coming was the end to this book. It wasn’t mine blowing or crazy, but it was definitely surprising. Another engaging and addictive read from Miss Slater.

What a story this is!
Kim Slaters 11th psychological thriller is the biz it really is, I try not to use the word ‘twists so wont so lets say ‘unexpectededness thats coming at ya from every chapter....

Janey ambles along, just about, her marriage and house and life could be better but now she has the horror of knowing a secret, a secret her Mum told her on her deathbed...I read lots of secrets in books but this is one no one would want to find out, Janey is now struggling

But then her hubby gets offered a new job, a career lets say, double wages, with a move to a new area and they find a house almost immediately, perfection...and off they go to Buckingham Crescent
By this point the book had me, I LOVE a ‘move of house as a subject of/ in a book, the new neighbours, the gossip, the vile school gate Mum’s and the newbie trying to fit in and then making friends and little by little things not seeming quite right and it all being less than perfect

But for Janey its just starting, things are about to go terribly wrong and then just when it cant get worse, it does as her secret becomes general knowledge and well, chaos erupts

The horrible, awful secret is dealt with in small chapters that explain and allude to the horror of the secret and its menacing and dark and chilling

Everything comes together in a series of raw surprises to Janey and also to us the reader and its pure psychological thriller, done really really well

Superbly written with a cast you dream of and here you have what we all love, a book you truly cant put down

Woohoo! K.L. Slater has done it again with this latest psychological thriller, Little Whispers. Having read most all of her books and having enjoyed every one of them so far I am always hesitant going in thinking I’m might be disappointed but yet again I walked away impressed.

In Little Whispers we meet Janey, a wife and mother who is used to penny pinching and coupon clipping to get by as the bills piled up for her family. However, now Janey’s husband has found a new job paying twice as much and has excitedly moved them to Buckingham Crescent, a well to do suburban neighborhood.

As Janey tries to get comfortable in their new richer life she does her best to begin to fit into the new neighborhood and make friends with the local mothers. Janey finds herself fitting in with a new group including with Tanya who has a son the same age as Janey’s son. Before long though Janey finds herself spilling her own secrets over too much wine and hoping she doesn’t regret it.

As soon as I picked up Little Whispers I knew I would having trouble putting it back down and sure enough the pages just kept flying by. Being an avid reader I’m always looking left then looking right and all around for the twists before they come but somehow K.L. Slater always seems to manage to surprise me and this was no exception to that. When all was said and done with this one all I could think was how does she think of these things??

I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.

Janet's mother is on her deathbed and she a devastating family secret before she dies. Now, Janey is carrying the burden of the secrets from the past. Janet's husband, Issac tells her that he's received a job offer that will pay him double the amount he gets just now. It also allows the family relocate to an exclusive community. Buckingham Crescent is a posh area. Jenny struggles in the beginning to fit in when she picks up her son, Rowan at the school gates. Issac becomes withdrawn, hes hiding a secret. As Janey and Rowan make new friends, Issac is working even longer hours than before. But then Janey confides her family secret to her new best friend. Janey witnesses a serious attack in the street. Ow she's facing blackmail threatsand her trust is betrayed.

This ook is a it of a slow burner for the first 70%. Theres secrets and lies throughout the story. The last 30% of the book was well worth waiting for. It's got twists and it gets intense. I was second guessing what was happening. K.L. Slater never disappoints. She always has you hooked by the end.

When Janey’s husband gets a new job they move to a new upmarket area.
At first Janey and her eight year old son find it hard to settle down and make friends and the fact that her husband is at work all the time doesn’t help.
Janey is delighted when her son finds a new friend at school and she befriends some other mothers at the school gate but something isn’t right and Janey can’t settle until she finds out what it is.
A good thriller they kept me engaged throughout.

Janey Markham has moved to upscale Buckingham Crescent with her son, so that her husband can start a high profile new job. When Janey falls in with the socialite circle of women from Buckingham, she can’t believe her luck. After a child hood of her mother telling her constantly that no one was trustworthy and friends were a liability, Janey is excited to finally have time for the female bonding she so craves. One night, while drinking wine with her new friend, Tanya, Janey reveals a long-kept, deep dark secret from her past that no one, except her husband, even knows. Tanya promises to keep her secret but after Janey sees Tanya’s daughter Angel, hanging out with some scary guys that are twice her age, and threatens to go to the police, things change. Soon, Janey’s secret is out, jeopardizing her job and her son. But who told? And why? When Janey finds out who else on Buckingham has secrets to keep, the questions only pile up.

“Little Whispers is K. L Slater’s twelfth novel. That sounds impressive- and it is! I, myself, have only read four novels by the British author, but I hope to slowly make my way through them all. Slater is known for her psychological thriller suspense stories, full of family drama, doubt, intrigue and nasty closets full of skeletons.

I thoroughly enjoyed the second half of this novel. It was well-written, full of suspense, and I didn’t even come CLOSE to guessing the ending. It played out at a fast pace and I was glued to every page. I wish I felt the same about the beginning of the novel.

I will openly admit to my personal bias here. I am NOT a fan of the “petty housewives genre, where bored trophy wives with nothing to do compete with each other, gossip and join little clubs so they can make themselves feel important. I am sure it holds some interest to some but it is pretty much the bane of my existence. The first half of this novel was full of Janey trying to get in with the “cool Moms, and although it is supposed to add to Janey’s background of a woman desperate to fit in and be socially included, I found her choice of friends vapid and extremely irritating. It felt like I was trapped in a “Real Housewives of(well, any one of them I guess). Needless to say when the plot moved on from this, I was finally pulled back into the writing style of Slater that I have come to enjoy.

The ending of the novel was unpredictable and satisfying, and Janey’s “pay attention to me! desperation gave in to parental love and strength, which made her a far more relatable and enjoyable character. She also happens to have the same job as I do, so there was a personal connection made for me there. I was invested in the outcome, and was pleased at how it played out. Although the psychologically suspenseful twists and turns didn’t happen at the beginning, it was still a novel worth reading, especially to those familiar with Slater’s work. But don’t let this one be the first novel by Slater you read, or you will not get a solid picture of her writing talent.

It appears that I am on quite the suspense thriller/domestic drama kick this weekend and I am finding that they are all extremely hard to put down. Little Whispers wasn't at all what I expected by the end of the story and that certainly makes it a memorable read.

When Janey Markham, her husband Issac, and their son Rowan move to Buckingham Cresent, things are looking up for their family. Issac promises Janey that with his new job he will be able to commit more to the family. However, things start looking very familiar and Janey is desperate to make some new friends in the neighborhood for herself and her son. When Janey meets a popular suburban mom, Tanya, she is delighted to be accepted by the "in-crowd." Unfortunately, Janey has never been good at watching what she says, and when a family secret slips out, it has the possibility of ruining the suburban dream she desires.

Yeah, so this read kept me on my toes and went in directions that made the big "reveal" to be a wee bit of a surprise. Well played K.L. Slater, well played.

LITTLE WHISPERS is a psychological thriller by bestselling author K.L. Slater. Having read and enjoyed most of her novels, I couldn’t wait to start this book. Little Whispers will keep you guessing right until the very end.

She shared a secret with the wrong person.

Janey Markham and husband Isaac and eight-year-old son, Rowan are thrilled to be moving to Buckingham Crescent, the smartest address in a desirable suburban town, after her husband gets a promising new job in the IT field which involves relocation. Their relationship had been fading after ten years of marriage, and this was a chance to reconnect and rekindle their marriage, and a fresh new start in many ways.

A year ago, Janey had given up her job as a teaching assistant to be her mum’s carer. She and her son were very close to her mum, and when her mum died four months ago, it hit her hard.

Janey soon realized it wasn’t going to be easy to “fit in the neighborhood, after she overheard a comment of “how the crescent is going down fast, from a snotty group of rich women from the area.

Janey is thrilled when she meets Tanya, the kind of woman she has always looked up to. Tanya takes Janey under her wing, and her teenage daughter Angel is amazing with Janey’s little boy. As Janey and Tanya grow closer, Janey feels she can finally leave her troubled past behind.
But then everything changes

In a weak moment over a bottle of wine, Janey finds herself telling Tanya her most shocking secret. Why wouldn’t she trust her new friend?

Be careful who you trust

This fast-paced suspense novel builds slowly keeping the reader guessing along the way. This is another excellent book by author Kim Slater.

With a striking cover like this, I was very excited to delve into K.L. Slater's latest, Little Whispers! Janey and her husband move into a new neighborhood after her husband receives a fantastic job offer and Janey gets caught up and swept away by the glamorous lifestyles and the mysterious clique of women in Buckingham Crescent. We soon learn that she has secrets of her own and has to quickly discover who she can trust before the seemingly-perfect but power hungry group of neighbors take control of her destiny.

I have to say K.L. Slater did a really wonderful job of creating a cast of incredibly unlikable characters Janey is surrounded with in the neighborhood. I really didn't trust any of them throughout the book, and I honestly felt bad that these were the only options Janey had for friends! It really reminded me of the movie Mean Girls, because as much as she knew most of these people were 'bad', she was drawn to them anyway and still wanted to impress them all. As much as these dynamics were great, I didn't particularly love the side stories/backstory in this one as much as I normally do with Slater's work. I didn't love the 'big twist' and I don't think it's the most interesting ending she has ever come up with by far. I also sorely missed more interaction between Janey and her son Rowan, because I think she writes children well and they're always adorable.

All in all, another solid showing from K.L. Slater even though it wasn’t my favorite book of hers. I continue to be a fan and will definitely read her next book!

3.5 stars rounded up to 4 - I’m a bit ambivalent about this one. When Janey Markham’s husband, Isaac, tells her he has been offered a new job with many benefits, more time at home and almost double the pay - it sounds too good to be true. And when that happens, it usually is. But Janey knows that money is tight and Isaac seems so pleased with the opportunity that they embrace the change..

Soon Janey, Isaac and son, Rowan, are installed in a swank, large home in a posh neighbourhood and life seems perfect. Of course it never is. The cracks soon start to show. Janey has to work at becoming accepted by the other “Buckingham mums and Isaac spends even more time at work than before. By the halfway point you are sure there is something fishy going on but you can’t quite put your finger on what.

At the same time Janey is still dealing with the terrible secret her mother finally divulged, literally on her deathbed, just a couple of months ago. This secret, which is not hard to guess, is doled out in tiny morsels throughout the book. While the writing was very good and Janey was a credible chief protagonist (I’m not so sure about some of the others) and she wasn’t whiny or too stupid to live, the story didn’t have quite the drama or pace I would have liked. Enjoyable but not memorable. If you’re a fan of character driven domestic noir and/or K.L. Slater this should be right up your alley.

I've been a fan of K.L. Slater all throughout her writing career, and I'm thrilled to say this thriller does not disappoint!

The story is about Janey, who moves to a new town for her husband's new IT job, along with their son. At first, the local mothers at school drop off are cold to Janey. They're prissy and come from money, and her family is blue collar. Eventually, the women warm up and invite Janey into their friendship circle, but a series of unfortunate events change everything when Janey drunkenly tells one of the mothers something about her past...something she should have never revealed.

The suspense builds at a quick pace in this story, with plenty of dark twists. I was hooked from beginning to end, and would highly recommend to fans of domestic thrillers.

Thank you to Bookouture, author K.L. Slater, and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Janey and her family are coming up in the world. Her husband got a huge promotion, but they have to move ... the new company is throwing in a much larger house in a posh neighborhood and where the schools are much better for their son. It doesn't hurt that Janey was a teacher and may have an opportunity to teach again.

She's not sure she will fit in with the glamorous other school moms, but she is willing to give it a shot. It doesn't take long before she has new friends ... Tanya, Edie and Ky.

In a weak moment, over a bottle .. or two .. of wine, Janey tells Tanya her deepest, darkest secret that no one knows other than her husband. Little does she realize that this one action will come back to haunt her in a huge way.

The best secrets are the most twisted.

Janey's husband has grown distant and she worries he may be having an affair. Never would she have imagined anything worse.

Guaranteed to keep the reader riveted to each and every page, this thriller is well written with several twists and turns that lead to a shocking conclusion. Nothing is at is seems.

Many thanks to the author / Bookouture / Netgalley for the digital copy of this psychological thriller. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

Little Whispers by K L Slater is a psychological thriller with a very slow start. Almost three-fourth of the book is just setting up the plot, while the last quarter swiftly delivers answers to all the questions that had popped up. The plot is a family drama involving secrets and lies thus resulting in unwanted consequences.

It is a light read, and the story is entertaining. The suspense was spot on - there was no way I could have guessed it. It wasn't far fetched either.

I will be definitely be picking more books by this author.

Thanks to the author and the publisher for the ARC.

Verdict: A solid read.

Every time I start a book by K.L. Slater - this is my sixth - I know I'll be treated to a good story. It's not very often that I stay up later than usual to finish a book, but it happened here (granted, I had only two chapters left, but still).

This one begins not long after Janey Markham lost her mother, for whom she'd been providing care. She and her husband Isaac and young son Rowan have been able to make ends meet - barely - since she stopped working as a teaching assistant. But now, hope is on the horizon; Isaac, it seems, has landed a new job at nearly double his old salary. A bonus of paid moving expenses makes the switch to West Bridgford, England, irresistible. Sweetening the pot even more is the "perfect" house just waiting for them to buy.

Janey is surprised at the turn of events, but relieved; just before her mother passed away, she revealed a dark secret to her daughter - one that totally changed Janey's view of her world. Now, she thinks, she can start fresh - maybe even land a job at the posh private school Rowan will be attending - and no one will be the wiser.

Early on, though, she gets cold-shoulder treatment from a hoity-toity group of mothers who bring their kids to school each day (I felt a definite Stepford Wives vibe going on). They all dress to the nines and have homes far grander than Janie's, making her wonder whether she'll ever measure up. Gradually, they begin to "accept" Janey - or at least two of them do. The third, seemingly jealous of Janie's new friendship with Tanya, the woman she considers her bestie, sulks and makes snarky comments. That's disturbing to Janey, who doesn't have a clue as to why. But when Janey discovers that something may be amiss with Tanya's teenage daughter Angel - and an elderly neighbor warns her about getting too cozy with the snooty ladies - she begins to suspect her picture-perfect life may have a few cracks in it.

Then one day, Janey and her friend Tanya get schnockered drinking "fizzies" in the hot tub, and Janey spills the beans about her mother's secret. Isaac is livid, but Janey argues that her new friend would never betray her. That works, until it doesn't; something Janey sees threatens to disrupt Tanya's life, and she, in turn, threatens to let the rest of the community in on what she knows about Janey. For his part, Isaac isn't much help; despite his promise when they moved, his new job is demanding even more of his time than did his former one.

What's really going on - with the women and with her husband - is a question Janie desperately wants answered. But who can she trust? No one is talking, and suddenly Janey's life turns into a living hell. Readers learn the truth as the story progresses and comes to an exciting end. I did take a bit of an issue with Janey's so-called "shocking" secret; granted, it's not pretty, but neither did it seem to be devastating enough to nearly destroy her life. But overall, I give this one high marks - and thank the publisher, via NetGalley, for the opportunity to read and review an advance copy.

This is very much a book of two halves. The first half introduces us to Janey, her husband Isaac and their son Rowan. Janey had given up her career and spent the last year caring for her mum until the day before her death her mum told her a terrible secret.

Then with her husband successfully landing a new job it’s finally time for a fresh start and with double their previous income they can clear their debts and move to a nicer more desirable area. Welcome to Buckingham Crescent where all that matters seems to be money, gossip and kowtowing to the indomitable Tanya. That woman makes The Stepford wives seem normal.

There is also the addition of the odd chapter interspersed throughout detailing the abduction of a young girl on her way to a birthday party by a couple.

Then we come to the second half where secrets are spilled and the proverbial pooh hits the fan. I loved how slowly the author draws it out, mostly alluding rather than telling so you are urged to carry on reading desperate to know both the secret and who is and isn’t who they seem.

I’m so glad I am happy in my own skin and don’t feel the desperation to fit in. As the characters in this book, although brilliantly fun to read are the last people you would want as friends. Hats off to the author though for making them so realistically vile. It gave me serious Housewife of (fit in any place) reality tv vibes.

This is a riveting domestic thriller with plenty of spills and thrills and a firecracker of an ending.

It is no secret that I devour every book this author publishes and sometimes I’m lucky enough to get an early copy. I was hooked by Little Whispers from the very first page. There were so many characters and storylines that totally captivated me from the outset. The pacing was expertly for so that as one question was answered another one was posed which forced me to carry on reading as I had to know how all these storylines came together at the end. And I was not disappointed and the denouement totally blew me away. It is a testament to this writers ability and skill that I love each book more than the last. Eagerly awaiting the next.

Gosh, I can’t begin to tell you how much I loved this book!

This novel has a great storyline. It feels a bit like one of those American television shows with the neighbourhood and the women always being immaculately turned out. Either that or one of those reality shows.

Things for Janey couldn’t be going much better when they move into their new home in a much better area. Her husband’s job is better paid, so they don’t have the constant money worries as well as her getting friendly with the in crowd of mums. I couldn’t help getting a bad feeling though and screaming at her in my head to be careful.

The twists and turns this story takes sent me dizzy towards the end. I had absolutely no clue at just how this story would play out but I definitely didn’t expect anything like how it did. There is the odd chapter that is set in the past of which kept me on my toes as I tried desperately to see how that was going to fit in with what was going on in Janey’s life.

Little Whispers is a wonderfully dark and devious tale that grabbed me from the very first page. Janey’s new life and her new friendships had me fully absorbed and I enjoyed getting to know these characters better. If you love a story where things arn’t quite what they seem and discovering shocking secrets, you are going to love this book.

My thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for an advanced readers copy of this book. All opinions are my own and not biased in anyway.
