All I Want #1

Choose Me

Rate this book
I see the good in everyone. My heart bleeds for the people who get a bad rap and no shot at redemption. Being a defense lawyer in a small town is not easy--especially when I am defending the criminals they loathe. And then, wouldn't you know it. I attract the attention of the hottest cop in the entire town. He's smart, rugged, and completely irresistible.

But there's one problem...

Luke Hudson is running for sheriff. And he would be a damn good sheriff. This man never backs down. He sees the law in black and white--right or wrong. I see all the shades of gray in between. Now, with the election looming and our relationship heating up, everything implodes.

Luke's given a choice: it's either me or his dream job.

And all I want is for him to choose me.

Emma Ryan grew up in a small ‘one-traffic-light town. She moved to Baltimore to escape her parents expectations and made a successful life of a public defender. When Emma gets sent to Chestertown as a temporary substitute to Penny Shaw, who is on maternity leave, it is like finding herself back home but with a much improved social life and possibly more. Luke is an attractive police officer whose life ambition is to become the town sheriff. There is an instant attraction between Emma and Luke but the election campaign and politics may throw a spanner in the romantic works. After all, what Emma does for living is defending criminals. Should Luke overlook this potential conflict of interest and treat her as a professional? He also appears to be oblivious of the temporary nature of Emma’s residence in Chestertown. Emma starts getting threatening messages and the mystery part of the story begins to unfold.
What I liked the most about the book was the small town atmosphere, which seems authentic, despite an unusually high crime rate. I also liked Emma’s new friends. I was less convinced by the main couple. I did not find Luke particularly likeable. Emma is supposed to be sassy and sarcastic but actually comes across quiet and shy. I would have loved more banter, more interaction between them esp. in the first two-thirds of the book. The resolution of the mystery is not credible either.
I did enjoy reading the book and will be looking forward to the next title in the series.

This book could fit into the Romance and Mystery/Suspense genres- my two favorites at the moment!

Emma Ryan is a determined, hard-working, and introverted public defender in the city. When transferred to the small town of Chestertown, she isn't sure how she is going to like it or survive. I loved reading about how she stepped out of her shell, made friends and found police officer Luke Hudson.

Speaking of Luke Hudson - swoon. I immediately fell in love with Luke. He could be a little hard-headed and stubborn at times, but it made me fall in love with him, even more, when he finally came to his senses.

Emma and Luke are complete opposites, even down to their professions. But it makes for an entrancing romance. Add in the mystery of someone sending threatening text messages and trying to scare Emma out of town and this book becomes an absolute page-turner!

This is the 1st book I've read written Lea Coll; she has done a great job at writing a good book; I will definitely be reading more of her books.

The story line caught my attention at the very beginning and kept me interested throughout the entire book.

I loved the chemistry between the characters.

I did not like this book at all. The transitions between chapters is so sloppy and the writing feels like it needs major revision. The characters are not very likable and the mystery is so boring. I began to skim read this book because it was just so boring. I am so disappointed because based on the premise, it should be a favorite but it did not meet expectations at all!

Interesting romance/suspense

Emma is a hardworking public defender and she moves back to a little town for a temporary basis. She is trying her best to fit into the small town and that is when she meets the cop Luke. Luke comes across as stubborn. But with his ambitions to become the next sheriff and the politics involved, his character has been etched well.
The small town and the opposite characters are very well brought out in the cute romance/suspense. Liked it.

Emma has been transferred to the small town of Chestertown. She is a public defender on loan from the city to cover for the one out on maternity leave. Emma hates small towns. She is a loaner who tends to keep to herself. She doesn't like everyone knowing her business and she doesn't like to be social. She is much happier with her nose in a book.
When Emma starts to settle in she makes friends. Something she has never had before. They push her to be social. When the hot cop Luke starts to flirt with her, she feels it is a mistake. But when his advances become stronger and he lets her know he wants her, things start to fall in place and she feels like she belongs for the first time in her life. But when she gets attacked she cannot figure out who would want to hurt her. Can Luke find out who is after her before it is too late?
Overall this book was a pretty good read. I did kind of find Emma to be a bit withdrawn and introverted. I liked her character. Luke on the other hand was a pain in the butt throughout the story. I had a hard time falling in love with his character. To me he felt self absorbed and let others influence his decisions. His back and forth with his feelings gave me whiplash.
This book had some steamy and hot moments mixed with thrilling suspense. This helped to keep the story interesting and fun. The other characters were fun and energetic. I loved the girls. They were fun. I do wish that Samantha would have had more of a backbone. But I did find it cool that she did not have a bad thing to say about anyone. So refreshing.
If you like a good suspense romance, then this book will be enjoyable to you. It has thrills, chills and fun.

Trying my best to really like it but sometimes you just need to give up.

A slow burning romance that even with exciting storyline is slightly boring and underwhelming.

Emma is send to a small town to cover a maternity leave as a public attorney. There she meets Luke who's running to become a sheriff. And the love story happens. Add a little crime, few scary messages and a cat and mouse game. Could be interesting but the end result doesn't put your pants down in amazement. I actually DNF'd this at 70%.

I just don't feel that attraction between our heroine and hero. They're there but not really. I don't even know what to write in this review as I can't even find proper food analogy. This is just a book that leaves you with nothing. Like you read it, spend your time and you forget about it after few hours. It's pretty sad, considering the great potential the whole story holds.

This is strickly my opinion. If you like slow burning romances you might have a different opinion and that's OK.

The first for me from this author and I am interested in seeing how the rest of the series turns out.
I loved Luke and how he went about trying to get Emma, especially with those cartoons. I loved their interactions but have to admit I did want to smack some sense into him at times. He messed up big time in my opinion and was lucky that he got another chance with Emma. Emma should have made sure he understood her situation if not from the start but definitely once things hotted up between them. However in her defence she wasn't hiding it and someone else could have mentioned it to Luke, but it just showed that they both had things to work on if they wanted a relationship, like priorities and better communication skills. Definitely a page turner for me.

This was a nice and entertaining read that I really enjoyed. Luke and Emma are so sweet together. Granted I wanted to knock some sense into Luke a time or two, but he finally got his act together. I really liked the supporting characters and I hope we get to see their books as well.

Written as a 1st person single POV. I prefer a multi POV, but this was still a good read. This had a bit of romance, mystery, heartache, and a HEA. Nice story line, easy to follow dialogue, good description to detail, and easy to like characters. I wasn't able to grow an attachment to the characters, but I did enjoy them. I think I actually liked Ashley and Logan better. I like how well they played off each other.

All in all, a good read.

Would I recommend this book? Yes

Would I read more from this author? Yes

Ms. Lawyer by Lea Coll
“The lawyer and the sheriff, 3 stars

Emma is a lawyer from the city filling in for another lawyer in a small town while she’s out on maternity leave. She knows how small towns operate seeing how she’s from one. But even having knowledge of how small towns work doesn’t help her here. Some how she now has friends, a hot cop seeking her attention, and some crazy unknown person who won’t leave her alone. Will she stay, or will she leave?
Luke is from Eastern Shore and has always loved his town. All he wants to do is make it better than it currently is, and he has no time for distractions. Until Emma. Emma makes him want more for the both of them. Only it seems like the town is conspiring against them. Will he convince her to give him a chance?
Coll is a new to me author and for the most part I was presently surprised. Ms. Lawyer has all the great makings of a story. But for some unknown reason (could be more or it could have been the story I’m not sure) I just couldn’t fall into the story and stay there. I kept putting Ms. Lawyer down which for me isn’t very common leaving me to give it a 3. With that said, if you take a chance on Ms. Lawyer I hope you enjoy it.

This is the first book I have read from this author and it will not be the last. I really liked Emma she was a great character she is a new public defender and seems to keep butting heads with Luke who is a local cop i have to admit i was a little confused by Luke he kinda came across as two separate characters at times the playboy and the hero but i did warm to him, straight away you can feel the chemistry between these two and I really enjoyed getting to know them and thought they were just great together.

Lea Coll, ‘Ms Lawyer, Eastern Shore Series.

As an ARC reader I received this book for free. And promised an honest review. Here it is. English isn’t my first language. Sorry for errors.

Rating: 3,5 stars (of 5).

In general: Complicated love between two law enforcers.

Main characters:
- Emma Ryan.
Public defender in Baltimore. She is temporarily transferred to Chestertown to replace a colleague on maternity leave.
Emma liked to be alone in Baltimore, but in the little city Chestertown people want to know each other, so Emma quickly has friends like Ashley (her boss), Stella (a journalist) and Samantha (manager of a bakery).

- Luke Hudson.
Police sergeant. Grown up in the countryside near Chestertown. He wants to become the new sheriff in the little town.

Emma and Luke meet when Emma is harassed by the angry boyfriend of an client. Luke helps her. They like each other, but a deeper relationship becomes difficult by their situation: Luke campaigning for sheriff against an opponent who plays dirty and Emma only living and working temporarily in Chestertown.
They keep meeting: Emma is threatened and attacked by an unknown person while Luke investigates her case. The author, Lea Coll, describes how their relationship develops. For me the story was well written, but not quite credible: Luke is stubborn and deeply in love but twice breaks up with Emma without fighting for her and Emma too is deeply in love with him, is clever and assertive but keeps silent for a rather long time after the second break up.
All in all: an interesting book to read, but some doubts about the logic of the complications in the plot.

Very interesting read - it's sometimes better to box pride and ambitions and put them aside to have in life what is most important after all.

That was very enjoyable read for me. I spend really good time with the characters presented in this book and not only the main protagonists. I hope there will be next books in series that will focus on different couples. I see the potential outlined in "Ms. Lawyer".
So we have a hot police officer who pursue the relationship with sexy, strong, independent but lonely Ms. Lawyer. By the way I loved how this nickname was used along the story line. I really liked the language used in the book, mature and professional. English is not my first language and I like that the words used in the books were not from everyday life but gave me feeling like I was in the word of Emma and Luke.
As for the mystery, well it added another layer to the story but I quickly predicted what was behind. There were events that surprised me but didn't influence the plot to make it more interesting. But this is the room for improvement. What kept me interested in this book was how the relationship between Emma and Luke would evolve. There were several issues from the start that indicated that it won't be the fairytale and that if they want to be together and have their happily ever after they will need to work for it. And so they did. I don't want to give anything away so if you are keen to know if they succeed and what was keeping them apart and what issues they had to overcome, give this story and chance. I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

Not to mention the HOT love scenes. The characters are real with very human flaws, which made me love them even more.

This was a good book. Emma is new to town and is filling in for another lawyer. While here she meets Luke. He is running for Sheriff. It was hard for them to spend time with other but they made it work. Yes there was some drama but it didn't last long and it all got worked out in the end.

A little suspense, a little romance, some drama and an all-around cute story. Luke is the hot cop with the flirty words. Emma is the new defense lawyer in town. These two have instant chemistry but don’t immediately act on it. Their flirty banter eventually turns to stolen touches and heated kisses. This was a sweet romance filled with a great group of friends and second chances and maybe even third chances.

Thanks to the author for providing ARC in exchange for honest review.

The story is too simple, a simple love story between a cop and a lawyer. The setting of the story is interesting enough but still the story is still missing something.

Overall I think the author did try her best and definitely looking forward to her.

I enjoyed this story. Lea Coll is a new to me author and Ms. Lawyer was a good read. I loved Emma and Luke and how completely opposite they were. I loved how hard they fought their attraction for one another. I also loved how hard they fell in the end.

I enjoyed the writing and the story. I can't put my finger on exactly what was missing for me in this book, but something was. I did enjoy this story and look forward to more to come from Lea.

Reviewed on my blog, , on 11/30/18.

I liked the characters and loved the setting (a small town on the Maryland shore) of Ms. Coll's debut book, Ms. Lawyer. Emma, the former discontented small-town teen who became a big-city lawyer who finds herself temporarily transported to a new small town, is surprised at how quickly she fits into her new home. She fits right into the quirky group she finds there, and is immediately drawn to Luke, a police officer who is running for sheriff. Will their jobs (police officer vs public defender) be a barrier to their growing relationship, and will dating the public defender keep Luke from achieving the sheriff's position he's wanted for so long? What about the expiration date on Emma's time in Chestertown?

Read Ms. Lawyer to find out!

It's pretty clear that Ms. Coll is setting up most of the friends in Emma and Luke's circle for future books, which could be a lot of fun. As her first, this book does lean a bit harder on the telling rather than showing side of storytelling, and some of the conflicts here tend toward overdone in the moment yet are then easily resolved--I'm sure as Ms. Coll gains more experience, her writing style will develop accordingly.

An author to keep an eye on...

Rating: 3 stars / C

I could barely get through this book. I ended up skipping pages and finally the last couple of chapters. While there was an initial build up with Emma and Luke, it was later hot and cold and made me not really care to see what happened to them. In addition, the amount of time that Luke, who is a police officer, was at the courthouse to testify and therefore talk to Emma, was in no way realistic. It seemed he was at court more than being on the street. I didn't find character development great. I normally finish books to the end but was completely fine to leave this 87% done.
