Goodsprings Georgia is home to a secret witch's coven. Sam, earth witch, owns the local smoothie shop. She likes to put a little magic in her brew and she can cure most ailments with her smoothie potions. Her one employee, David aka Tank, has tattoos out the ying yang and a Harley in the parking lot. Regular customer Phineas and his pet rooster Chuckles enjoy lounging in the shop's courtyard seating. Chuckles gets his own shot glass of magic brew. Lucky bird.
Tessa, fire witch, owns the hottest grill in town. Mara, wind witch, can hear the whispers of the town, which comes in handy when an investigation is needed.
Amelia Windemere was the coven's water witch until her untimely demise. She wasn't the most loved person in town....oh heck, she was the most despised. But how does a water witch drown? Are there witch hunters in town or something more evil? And why did the police force hire two new twin detectives just in time for a murder?
Find out in the first installment of the Happy Blending Witch Cozy Mystery Series
Constance Barker lives in the Midwest with her husband and two Akitas where she can look out from her screened porch onto a wooded area brimming with activity. Since she was a young girl she read mysteries, often given to her by her grandmother. She loved figuring out who the culprit was and sometimes she was right and other times startled at who the author picked as the assailant. Now she enjoys writing mysteries herself. When she isn't writing stories, she can be found in her favorite vacation spot, Las Vegas or shopping for bargains.
A very fun book of witches and magic and mystery. The ladies had great personalities and powers were different than I have seen in other similar type cozies.
The Happy Blendings Witch Cozy Mystery Series, Bk 1, EB-k M, Kindle, @ 2019, read 10/10/20. Fiction, Cozy Mystery, Witches. A silly tale involving a coven of witches, and the murder of one. Sometimes I just need a silly book in between my heavier books just to lighten the load. This one was silly, but it did make me laugh. Probably won't read any more of the series though. 2's = Okay.
Samantha Greene runs the local smoothie shop. She’s always coming up with new concoctions to try out on her friends and customers. Sam likes to add a bit of “magic to each drink. After all, she’s a witch and part of Goodsprings witch coven. Sam isn’t alone. There are a couple of close friends who are also witches - Tessa and Mara.
When the group gets together, the sparks more than fly, especially when Amelia Windemere (the water witch) joins them. Amelia is not a very likeable or popular person. Her untimely death is proof of that. She drowns, which is unheard of for a water witch. Sam and her friends know something more sinister is going on and they intend to find out what it is.
This is a fun cozy filled with some offbeat characters. It’s a much different cozy mystery than I’m used to. Magic and mystery are mixed together for an explosive story. I can easily see some of these scenes played out on a movie or TV screen.
This is the first book in the series. It moves along at a fast pace and can be read in one sitting. I’m looking forward to reading more of this series.
This was fast paced with an interesting story, quirky characters, plus a nice resolution. I’m thinking there’s potential for Sam and her man Friday, David (aka Tank), to venture into the realm of ‘more than friends and I’m wondering what’s up with Phineas and his rooster.
Our murder victim was not a nice character, and she pegs off towards the beginning of the story, however the race to solve her murder has a few twists on the stereotypes found in paranormal books that I found interesting (i.e., Mara’s ability).
If you’re after a quick read that has no bad language, sex, or violence, but still want that paranormal cosy hit, then this might be worth a try.
I hate to give a two, as the author went to so much effort, but it's a 2.5 for me.
Interesting premise, ok characters, ok plot. Maybe not enough back-plot masterfully woven in to the story, or maybe the next in the series would help seed the characters for me - who knows. I'd probably read the next one.. some day.
A good cozy mystery has to have certain elements a small town, engaging characters, cute covers, a mystery, an amateur detective, low on-page violence, and happy endings. The Potion Commotion has all of these, making for a quick and fun read. The author has created a quirky cast of characters that truly drive the story.
The main character is an earth witch, one of the four town witches. She and the other three within the coven are the latest in a long line of elemental witches, secretively working together on behalf of their town. However, one of their number has been misusing her powers, causing a rift in the coven. When two of the witches make an effort to bridge the rift, they instead find her dead. And so begins the mystery
They have kept the secret coven hidden, as had their ancestors before them. Just the four make up the coven but they have had run ins with their water witch. She has been abusing her powers and this latest meeting has her going off in a tiff. Hoping to make peace two of them try to see her later but only to discover her lifeless body. How can a water witch drown? The new detectives in town managed to let that slip. Add in the Otter King, shady dealings, advice from an old timer, a break in, black magic and a showdown. Will they be strong enough to take down the culprit?
Earth witch Sam runs a smoothie shop in the small town of Goodsprings. Tragedy strikes when Amelia Windmere, the water witch from Sam’s coven is found dead. It’s being treated like an accident but Sam knows that a powerful witch like Amelia could never drown without foul play and takes it upon herself to investigate.
The Potion commotion was a quick little read with a cast of quirky characters and an intriguing mystery to solve.
It has the usual hallmarks of a cozy mystery, a small town, a determined amateur sleuth, an unlikeable murder victim and a limited pool of suspects. Of course this has the twist of having a witch as the amateur sleuth with a few supernatural occurrences along the way.
I’m always intrigued by the magic systems that each other puts in place for their witch characters, this time it was elements, earth, wind, water and fire.
I did wish there may have been another suspect or two as I kind of guessed the murderer quite early on.
If you’re looking for a quick supernatural read and you just happen to love a cozy mystery too, I’d recommend this book.
Sam is an Earth witch, and owns a smoothie shop where she might add a little magic to her blends. She’s a quarter of the town’s coven, so when the water witch of their bunch is found dead, she and her friends want to find out why. This cozy mystery is set in a small Georgia USA town, and features no romance for our heroine. That might have been a small disappointment for me, but it didn’t detract from the story, which was an enjoyable and quick read.
The witch coven is unknown to most of the residents of Goodsprings but when the water witch is drowned it raises the eyebrows of the remaining witches.
Everybody is putting their power together and they discover some very interesting facts.
Will the new local police detectives solve the crime with or without the help of the witches?
Excellent fun imaginative book. Marred by the grammatical mistakes that affect this former English teacher worse than fingernails on a chalkboard. PLEASE PLEASE FIND A BETTER PROOFREADER!!!
A fun, new paranormal mystery series! This was a hoot to read! The characters were fun and delightful. I loved Sam, David, Mara, and Tessa! I am looking forward to more books!
A bright beginning to a new fun series about a witch, Sam, who owns a smoothie shop. She always seems to know exactly what to put into the blender to make the perfect drink. The fact that she is an earth witch and grows fabulous fruits and vegetables to use in her shop certainly gives her an advantage. However, the biggest advantage that benefits the entire town, is she is a member of a small coven that protects the town and insure its good fortune. When the water witch in their coven is found drowned, Sam and the other two remaining coven members (Tessa-fire witch and Mara-wind witch) join forces to figure out who killed the water witch, and how.
This fun book was over all too soon as I enjoyed getting to know the remaining coven members. The secret group ends up having to reveal their abilities to a pair of detectives to save the detective's lives. Along the way we meet interesting people and animals, as well as get to know the remaining witches and how their skills work. The author has created a town and coven full of fascinating people that I look forward to spending more time with in the future.
So a Water Witch drowns? It should never have been able to happen!, Amelia Windemere wasn't the most popular Witch in Goodsprings, Georgia, now she is dead and, as a Water Witch the last cause of death should have been drowning, who could have done it? Was it another Witch from the Coven, or was it Witch Hunters? And is it just a coincidence that the town have hired new detectives (twins at that!) just as there is a murder?
I really enjoyed this book, it was an interesting read, there is a good story and a good who dunnit, There is a well established friendships between the coven members (not forgetting Chuckles the rooster) and romance is in the air as they all come together to find out who killed Amelia!
There is a lot of humour in this book, which I enjoyed, This is a great start and I look forward to seeing where this series will go

A wonderful start to a new series. Lively characters, great imagery, wonderful dialogue, humour, witches, murder and so much more. Full pell mell action that leaves you gasping for breath as the story moves at breakneck speed.
A great new supernatural cozy mystery series. A fun cast of characters in a small Georgia town. A small coven of elemental which is her been in around the town since its founding. Their families go all the way back to the beginning. One elemental which from each group is part of the small Coven and performs rituals to help protect the town every year. Follow long as the current group ends up losing one of their Coven members to a murder. Follow along as the remaining members of the Coven and the new detectives in town solve the murder mystery. Very entertaining check it out.
A great start to a new series. Fast paced, quirky characters set in a town that I would love to live in and lots of laugh-out-loud moments. 4 witches, earth, wind, fire and water have made their homes there and form a secret coven, as their ancestors had before them. Which should mean a happily ever after but not so. The water witch starts abusing her powers and this manages to get her drowned.
I enjoyed this book very much and am looking forward to the next one in this wonderful new series.

This was an interesting twist to how a coven works, and it was a really good cozy too! I’ve never encountered a coven that relied on having only 4 members at a time and that each member had one element to their witchcraft. As they found out, losing one of the members and their element, makes for big problems. Plus there was the murder of that witch to solve! I loved how they each used their element to help solve the murder. It was really a fun book.

Goodsprings has a coven and they keep their doings under the radar. Understandably as no one wants to be exposed to a witch hunt. But then their waterwitch dies.....by drowning! Innocent people get accused so detective work is in order. Good story line

Diverse characters created a riveting read. The witches are realistic but still magical and interesting. It’s a great start to a new series, but theres only the first book out at the moment. Most of the book is written well but it is a little bland in some parts with no real romance.
This is the beginning of another wonderful series written by Ms. Barker. This coven of witches seems to be great friends and powerful witches in their own element. The writing is superb along with a quick pace that begs the reader to read until the end. I believe that this series is going to be a hit.

I love this new paranormal cozy mystery and I really enjoy the antics of the characters. Tessa, Sam, Mara, and Amelia are the coven witches until a death occurs. A mysteriously suspicious death. I cannot wait for the next book.

This is number one in what I hope will be a larger collection. In this writer's imagination witches are just regular people with magic inside. I was delighted by the solution to the mystery. I have hope that a romance will blossom between Det. Gallagher and Tessa. Can't wait to read the next installment!
I received an advanced copy of this book for an honest review. I really like this new series. it is what I call a light read. It's about friends and witches but so far nothing dark. Can't wait for the next one.
Well written, great storyline, wonderful characters are a delight to read. This story has all that and more. I loved that each elemental witch had her own personality, magical gifts, and separate personalities. Read and enjoy!
First book in this genre (witch detective) I’ve read that has witches working together with creative combinations of magic. Engaging suspenseful and fun.
I really like the main characters, the fact that the witches have new non-witch friends who know that they're witches and they have to trust them. I can identify with the non-witches and wish to BE one of the witches.
