I’m starting to want them both, not just my protector... the villain as well.
After an eviction notice and one too many apple martinis, I wake, stripped bare and alone in a cell.
No, wait, not alone. My evil garbage fire ex, Andrew, who suggested he’d let me stay with him "for a price" is here, too.
He’s the whole reason I lost my job.
My head is throbbing, my vision fuzzy.
"Andrew, you piece of... what are you doing?"
"Who's Andrew?"
My blood runs cold. That's not Andrew's voice. Oh god. Oh god. Oh god.
As my vision clears, the heart-stoppingly beautiful monster comes into view. He is definitely not Andrew.
And just when I think I'm locked in a cell with my captor, a second male voice comes through a speaker: our actual captor. He has a game he insists we will play... all for his brutal twisted amusement.

Kitty began publishing in early 2010 with her bestselling, COMFORT FOOD.
I must begin by gushing on this cover, how delectfully relaxed this guy looks and is ray-ing sinister vibe. I absolutely love it!
Another mind-numbing, dark, psychological erotic romance and it's twisted, no surprises there. Kate was evicted from her home and is now jobless. Considering to whore for her ex-moron-boss she finds herself taken captive. Waking up to find Seven, her prison partner, both play the erotic game of The Game Maker. Kate finds herself vulnerable and unbalanced in many situations but the lust and loathing she feels has her guiltily entrapped in the game.
There are carnal scenes and deceptive characters. I've no complains from this book. I enjoyed it so much!
Kate is broke, unplowed, because Andrew, her boss, fired her after she broke out with him. Now, she's about to lose her house, too. Her parents died in a car crash, so she's alone. She's forced to call Andrew, and now, instead of being his girlfriend, it's only for sex. Kate agrees to meet him in a bar. Next thing she knows, she's in a cell with Seven, a sexy stranger.
They both were kidnapped by The Master. He will put them through sick games, and a lot of BDSM plays. Kate starts to enjoy the Game...
This is Kitty Thomas we're talking about, so this will have a lot of twists and turns, sick games, and expect the unexpected. Please, pay attention that my favourite Kitty's book is , and this comes next. This may have a lot of triggers for some people.
I can't say this was not what I expected because I wasn't even sure what to expect. But now that I finally finished it, I have to say it was actually pretty good. It's important to go into this book blind, so I'll try to leave you in the dark as much as possible.
What I liked: it was actually dark mindfuck was brilliant hot and filthy sex Seven and Declan 🖤🖤 the ending
What I didn't like: the heroine got on my nerves most of the time way too much heroine's inner monologue the story picked up too late (the last third of the book) the whole thing about Declan and Seven was not explained enough
This was my first Kitty Thomas' book (I'm not counting the one I DNFed) and it sure won't be my last. Now that I know what to expect in her books, at least I won't have false expectations next time. If you like crazy mindfuck, dirty sex, and very little romance, then this one is for you. Master Declan and Master Seven are waiting to play with your mind.
It's been a while since I've read Kitty Thomas. She writes erotica, do not get confused with BDSM. 😬 I feel that I need to stress that out. The Game Maker is not BDSM.
Oops, my bad! There is no safeword. 😬😖
The elements she added to this one and a few other I've read in the past (abuse, non-con, slavery, dubious consent) endorse that.
Her style is more daring. There is a seductive edginess in her stories to the point of letting me feel uncomfortable because this is wrong, very bad-wrong, something that I love. 😈 The tension is always present, keeping me on the edgy of my seat. Not to mention the level of hotness. Phew!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
was dark and scorching hot. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 That said, I have an issue with her stories, I don't get to know the male characters. They are extremely twisted! But I can't see inside of them. What makes them tick? How they end up so screwed?
Interesting is that I don't feel the same regarding the female lead. Could the lack of male character development be on purpose to add a mysterious aura and even more tension? 🤔
Finally, I have a criticism to make about the end. Andrew happened, and there was no need for that twist. Anticlimactic and disappointing. Hard to rate this one.
Hooked factor: 4.5 stars Hotness: 4.5 stars Tension: 4 stars Mind fuckness: 5 stars Male character dev: 2 stars Plot: 2 stars Good luck with interpreting my rate.😬😬 One thing for sure, it was very entertaining.
Ok we all know that I always have plenty to say, but it has taken me a few hours to let me feelings stew and to garner my thoughts into some semblance of coherency. Just where do I start with this one? I guess that would be with the statement that I loved it! The Game Maker is so very wrong in all the right ways, taking the over-used captive sex slave trope and giving it a whole new breath of life. I came to the dark side through , it opened a door to a whole new world of temptation and titillation. That world had started to lose it's sparkle and shine, but The Game Plan has not only refreshed my thirst but taken the trope to a whole new level. Just as you can kill them with kindness, you can
Kate/Pretty Toy/Kitten is at the lowest point possible in her life when things take a really bad turn for her. Or do they? I guess they do at first, because her fear of what Master might do, or make her do, is overwhelming. There is a game to play and until she learns the rules, and figures out how to follow them, how can she not only stay safe but protect Seven too? It's so difficult to tell you how I felt without spoilers! I was so in that moment there with Kate, in that cell, in the bathroom, in the dungeon. With her while she was tormented with the exquisite agony of pleasurable pain. Witnessed her own desires and emotions shatter her into a thousand sharp pieces.
I guessed one thing that happened in the book, before it happened. I think that comes from being highly suspicious of things, along with a bit of logic. Other twists and happenings I would never have guessed at. This has an ending that I'm sure some people won't care for, though I loved it. It's as ambiguous as you want to make it. But then again I loved the ending in too. Broken people and sociopaths ruins a dark book in my opinion.
There isn't really any detail on how Kate fell prey to her fate. There is a very brief mention of her having been watched for a while. There is no real background on any of the main characters either, but then what does it matter when everything that went before is null and void? Kate, and I suspect both Seven and Master, were all (very?) different people before the captivity. Those people no longer exist, so knowing who they were has no influence on who they are now or on what they want. It's a very "in the present" book and I loved it.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
Kitty Thomas has reached a new level of DARK with The Game Maker. And she’s republishing it,with a brand new delicious cover.. If you were wondering how good this standalone is,now’s your chance. Because it is BRILLIANT! It keeps you guessing, and wanting, and hoping..... And still the end is só different from where you thought you’d go....
You read the blurb? About Kate hitting rock bottom? So desperate she’ll even beg the man that ruined her for help? Where she ends up,she can’t be sure what begging will get her...... If you want to find out what happens to Kate,i suggest you read the story. Because i’m not telling you! You really need to follow the clues and play the Game....
I think Kitty Thomas has officially made the ranks of one of my favorite author. I was so shocked by how much I loved this story. Kitty managed to paint a picture which a twist I didn’t see coming. All I know was that I wanted to be at Seven and Declan’s feet begging for them to be my masters.
I was the best at what I did in advertisement that is until I slept with the boss. When I broke it off with him because he was the worst lay a girl could EVER have, he blackballed me. Now I'm desperate about to be evicted. I made the worst call I could have out of desperation & alcohol, I called to the man who ruined my life.
When I first woke in a cell confused I thought I would see him but it was a another man who I thought was my captor, but as I came to find out he was just like me, in this prison a sex pawn. We were given rules but we broke them and got punished for them, but Seven my cell mate is beautiful, protective and kind. I want him so much I can barely breathe. He wants to protect me from our captor all we have is each other each night.
My new master tell me don't trust Seven but how can I not he holds me, protect me, takes my punishments and gives me the best orgasm ever. Until I find out I am in a game I can never win. They train my body to make me want them and now I am not sure who I want the most my master or my cell mate Seven. Will my master let me have both men? First book I read by Kitty Thomas I give it 3 1/2 stars
I don't mind kinky books..at all but the heroine here is just ... no and there is no plot..like why and how and what.. even if I was aware before starting this that this is that kind of read I still wouldn't like it...cuz steamy times were meh.. soooo
Not my typical cup of tea, and there were certainly some aspects that took me out of my comfort zone. However, it kept me engaged and flipping pages to see WTF came next.
“I don't understand why. WHY?
Honestly, I didn’t understand why either. I didn’t really connect with Kate/Pretty Toy/Kitten and that was the only POV this story had. Her actions left me scratching my head sometimes and wondering why she just accepted her circumstances and fell into a puddle of lust around these men.
He possesses the most terrifying combination of brilliance, evil, and patience. And I’m the unlucky lottery winner of his attentions.
The men....under different circumstances I probably would have been fangirling all over them. Very strong alpha males that exude massive amounts of testosterone and power. In this case, I’m not so sure I was ok with their actions so it was hard to really like them.
Character depth was lacking and I did guess one of the plot twists. I marked this as dark, but I've certainly read much darker, mind-twisty stories than this. I guess I would categorize it as light-dark, if that makes any sense. Besides the plot twist I guessed, I had a couple wrong guesses too. So, things aren’t obvious. I’ve read captivity books before, but this one had a unique element so it got extra points for originality.
”Death promises an end. But my captor is offering the possibility that there will never be an end. And now I'm afraid there won't be. I was so busy worrying about him killing me that I didn't bother to worry about what would happen if he didn't.
This is erotic, but there is also a story here. Consent was questionable. There wasn’t violent rape, but there was a blurry line because although her body responded and she was attracted, I would still say it wasn’t completely consensual.
The ending.....hmmm 🤔 It ended a little abruptly for me and although it wasn’t explicitly stated, i believe the characters were at least content with their lives at the end of the story.
I've just re-read this, this time on audiobook and it was just as amazing as the first time, even though I knew the twist. I'll definitely re-read/ re-listen again and again.
*** 5 Mindfuck filled stars.
Kitty has done it, I didn't think I'd ever say this, but I think she's topped Comfort Food and Tender Mercies, I think The Game Maker wins.
In true Kitty style, the twists are great, it's dark, kinky and the heroes are to die for.
I don't want to say too much and anything could be a spoiler and this book is best going in blind. But if you like dark romance, this is one of the best.
This is another book where I want to rant a LOT but, self control is my best friend nowadays. I will say a few things though
🌑 The steamy scenes are really hot and that one star is for them. However, it's an erotica, not a romance so please don't hide this fact. It does nothing else except confuse the readers.
🌑The writing was great. There were no errors or mistakes. But there was little to no personality development for the characters, the climax was really anticlimactic and I could see the "big reveal" coming when I was just 3 chapters in.
🌑I hate the FMC. She was meek and i think she had the city's whole water supply in her tear ducts, she cried that much🤦 Not only that but she was really stupid. I wanted to dive inside the novel and shake her saying "Honey, your brain is above your shoulders, not between your legs. Please don't think with your vagina"🤦🔪
Everyone is told to be afraid of the Stranger with a candy. In this case, a manipulative psycho with a well endowed hot body. There is a reason for that!!! You can't just go fall in love with them after seeing their dick🤦when they have captured you. I can't even explain fmc's infatuation as trauma bonding and stockholm because all she bonded with were two dicks of the mMC's. I just can't!!
🌑There is NO BDSM here. There are non-con and dub-con scenes, yes.
There are some psychology references that irked me a lot but I am a psych student and if i start ranting about that, i don't think I'll be able to stop so I'll leave now.
Oh this book... it will lure you into thinking things that aren't true. It's like a spell is cast. I truly enjoyed this wicked ride. I don't want to spill anything from the book. Try not to read too many reviews it will spoil it. Kitty does an excellent job of creating a believable story to torment and delight you.

“Don’t worry, Pretty Toy. You’ll get your turn soon enough.
I am the game maker, and Kate is my perfect, beautiful prey.
Picture it a desperate recently-evicted Cinderella waiting on a prince who isn’t coming, tossed mercilessly into a cell trapped with a strange man
That’s Seven, the other contestant in the game. I plan to corrupt him, make him dark like me maybe make his hero armor just a little less shiny. He wants her, too, after all. I can see it in his eyes. And I don’t mind sharing if it breaks her.
They will dance my dance and play my game. As each level unlocks and she falls deeper into my brutal web, she will become mine.
Body, mind, and soul.
She will give herself willingly, not only to the man in her cell, but to me as well. Possibly both at the same time. I haven’t decided yet.
I have so many surprises in store for her. For both of them.
I liked it. It was entertaining, but it needed More It is highly erotic. Great adult steamy scenes.
The ending was my favorite part. It finally felt dangerous. A nice taste of true dark. It was the only part that felt truly dark to me.
My problems are with the female character. She cries so much from page one, throughout the entire story, it really got on my nerves. Also that her situation didn't really ever feel 'dangerous'. It felt like she was a knowing player in The Game. In other words, a fantasy she was playing out with her 'Captors'. The dialog from all the characters felt scripted and didn't help make it feel anymore dangerous.
So, light on the dark. High octane on the sex scenes. Those were awesome.
i predicted what was gonna happen before even starting the book, but still managed to become shocked when it all actually happened. the erotica and details were amazing.
Absolutely OUTSTANDING! Dark, twisted & emotionally gut wrenching. The writing, the characters, & OMG, the plot! Kitty Thomas is a Mistress at grabbing her reader by the throat, heart & most impressively, by the mind. With Ms. Thomas the reader is NEVER exactly sure what has happened, what is happening & never what WILL happen. She keeps the reader gloriously entrapped on her literary tenterhooks, she pulls us through the twists & turns & switchbacks of the deliciously dark journey of her story. I found my emotions were all whipped around, like being in a whirlpool from which there's no escape. And I looooved it. I found myself admiring, supporting, hoping for, lusting for, loathing the characters, sometimes ALL of these for one character or the other depending on the circumstances. And no one is able to impact me with her characters the same way Ms. Thomas does. And I am sooooo frustrated: I WANT to say more. Be specific. Spill EVERYTHING because this dark, twisted, emotionally gutting, sensually intense tale is, IMO, stellar. But I can't because that would ruin the multitude of twists, shocks & deft layers of this story & the characters.
As others have said: GO INTO THIS ONE BLIND. You will NOT regret it. Truly, you will not. You want a story with carnal scenes that sizzle off the page? With characters that are deceptively complex & utterly intriguing? With writing that flows smoothly & with perfect pacing & phrasing? You want to be seriously involved in & CARE about the characters? You want to fear & desire a monster at the same time?
Read this one. Seriously, read this one.
In fact, I would be surprised if you don't reread this one several times. I know I am going to.
this was quite a surprise, concerning all the , even though one shouldn't so much enjoy the fact that abduction and sexual training of one lonely woman in the maestrally orchestrated ploy by two sociopaths *shrugs*
to hell with it, it's the part where you let your own darkness known to yourself in a perfectly controlling environment...in a book
This story was so unique and different from anything I have read before. The Game Maker had suspense, intrigue and sizzling hot scenes! It was twisted and very intense, with these characters hidden behind their masks and pretenses, I never would have guessed that ending! This story drew me in from page one and I could not put it down until the final page!
This was a pretty good read that I wished was longer. This was a dark twisted tale. This was a stand alone dark read. Kate was having a bad day she was fired from her job after breaking up with her Boss Andrew she was being evicted from her apartment so what does she do She goes out for a few drinks. She calls Andrew for help and passed out to wake up locked in a room with another man. This book had a twist that I did not see coming. Master awakes something in her and so does Seven who she thinks she's in love with. I liked Master aka Declan and Seven. At times Kate was annoying with all the crying she did. I have read this author before she writes some very good dark erotic romance story. This book had some very good sex scenes in it. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. If you like reading dark romance this book is for you.
*I received this book as a gift in exchange for my honest opinion.
Where to start? Well, let's start with the obvious for me. KITTY HAS A NEW BOOK!!!! There, I said it. And like many others out there, there was NO WAY I wasn't getting my greedy little hands on this.
Can we also just take a minute to lick, I mean admire the cover? Have you noticed anything different? Yep, there's a GUY on the cover. I'm pretty sure this is the first time ever. And HOLY HOT TAMALE it totally fits this book. Yum-y!!!
Ok, now to the book. I couldn't put it down. No, literally. I read it in one sitting because I was so incredibly in to the game. It's like that train wreck that you know is about to happen and you can't pull your eyes away for even a minute because you don't want to miss "the moment". Yep, this was that for me. ALL. NIGHT. LONG!!!!
If you've read the blurb, then you know that Kate is desperate. She's without a job, getting evicted and doesn't have any friends she can lean on until she bounces back on her feet. She's basically screwed. And right when she's about to choose to stoop even lower, the choice is taken from her. In fact, she's taken and the game begins.
So what happens in the game? Pfft, like I'd tell. That takes away from the excitement of actually reading the book. But I will say that the game played is hot as hell with the mind f-ery that Kitty brilliantly writes about.
This book hit all the feelings for me. For the very first time, I was not only OK with, but actually felt that the relationships represented in this book were right. In fact, not only right but necessary. And I didn't think I would ever say that. If that isn't the sign of a good book and an excellent writer, then I don't know what is. I loved that all the emotions and feelings, both good and bad, were explored thoroughly and explained so perfectly in such a manner that I could understand them. I could feel what she felt, and why she felt the way she did. I could understand how the censure and expectations of our own culture limits our potential and doesn't allow us to grow in the best direction for each individual's personal journey. I don't want to spoil anything by talking about the book's storyline, so I will leave you with this.......it''s a well written, well thought out and thought provoking book. You owe it to yourself to read it.
“He wants to break me. He is breaking me. But he wants to do it with pleasure. That's the cruelest way to do it. I know this, but still I want him. Every Kitty Thomas book has a unique, immediately recognizable tone and unguarded complexity - she does sociopathic so well 😉 I highly suggest going into The Game Maker blind as it will be so much more fun that way! And if like Kate you’ve learned actions speak louder than words, then this book will unfetter your romantic little heart and let it soar. ❤️😈
Oh and PS - this effin cover y’all! 😍 It. Is. Fabulous.
Hm.... what to say about ? The second part of the book was, IMO, definitely better than the first part! Kate's reaction to the whole kidnapping thing was kinda unreal and unbelievable for me. Although the Seven-twist was a very nice one, I wasn't really surprised about it; somehow I expected something like that. Very creative though! If I'd been in Kate's shoes, I would have taken the money, the nice car and the penthouse... and move on, lol! Somehow... I had a feeling there could have been so much 'more' to this story...?? Maybe if the book would have been a complete novel instead of a short (mere 170 pages) book? Rating: 3 or 4 stars? Let's keep it at 4... but they are not very bright shining stars. 😉
Holy crap this book is amazing! Kitty's books just keep getting better and better and I can't decide on a favorite anymore. I was completely pulled in , then bam I was totally blown away. I couldn't believe it but it was awesome. As with all Kitty books, once I started I couldn't put it down, and I didn't want it to end. The ending though was just so perfect. What an amazing game and ride! Everything about is good, and I love the little tidbits of humor. Read the book people!! You will be brilliantly pleased.
Just listened to the audio and finished it last night, Shirl Rae done an amazing job, it was wonderful!
Holy crap!! I've read a few captive stories but I think this is the best one so far! I was hooked from the moment that Kate woke up in the cage. The Game Maker was hot, twisted and unpredictable. I really loved Kate and Seven, while I hated their captor. Now all of that changed the moment she was offered her freedom and the truth was exposed. I never saw any of what happened coming but I loved every second of it.
