Danica Winters is an Amazon bestselling author who has won multiple awards for writing books that grip readers with their ability to drive emotion through suspense and occasionally a touch of magic. Most recently, Danica was the winner of the Paranormal Romance Guild’s Paranormal Romantic Suspense Book of the Year Award and Chanticleer Media’s Paranormal Book of the Year for her novel Montana Mustangs. When she’s not working, she can be found in the wilds of Montana testing her patience while she tries to understand the allure of various crafts (quilting, pottery, and painting are not her thing). She always believes the cup is neither half full nor half empty, but it better be filled with wine.
A Loaded Question begins the STEALTH: Shadow Team series with an intense, gripping story that brings Troy and Kate into each other’s lives and not only romantically but professionally, as well. A sniper’s miss will propel these two into the other’s orbit, and for Troy, the one person he didn’t need knowing what he and his partner were doing was FBI Agent Kate Scot. Professional courtesy grows into personal emotions as his case takes an unexpected turn for them both.
To keep this a spoiler-free review I’m going to end up being a bit vague for there is so much going on in A Loaded Question, and in so many ways, they all lead to the surprising conclusion. That ending I’m not often totally surprised by an ending, I usually have some idea where we’re heading in a book, but this one did catch me off-guard for I did not see that coming, at all.
Understanding Troy’s recent past (as the story opens) is, I believe, vital to understanding who he is today. I admit, there were moments when I wanted to shake the man to get his head out of the past and see what’s right in front of him. Yet. Knowing his past gives another layer to this complex man, and in many ways made him more human, more relatable to me throughout this story.
Kate is smart, stubborn, and professional. And her internal “what the heck alarm is going off strong when her dad tries to interfere after a sniper tried to take out Troy right in front of the local FBI office. I loved seeing her catch Troy at certain things he’s doing. Not a bad way, just knowing that Troy was meeting his match gave me some chuckles along the way for I love when a heroine can keep the hero just a bit off-kilter.
A Loaded Question is fast-paced, with sizzling chemistry between Kate and Troy, a complex case, vile villains to be dealt with, and an ending that will leave you wondering how you didn’t see that coming. I had an absolute blast with this opening story to the series, enough so that just one page that brought in a main character from the original STEALTH series had me deciding to go back to that first series sooner than I’d thought I would. I love this author’s work, and cannot wait to be taken further into her world. If you love romantic suspense that keeps you on the edge throughout then STEALTH: Shadow Team would be perfect for you.
I thought I would like this STEALTH book just as much as I have the others in this series. Yes, I have read them out of order. But this one was more romance (and hot thoughts) than suspense. Not what I expected.

Danica Winters delivers a heart-pounding thriller as the first of her newest series - STEALTH: Shadow Team.
Hired by the CEO of ConFlux to investigate possible weaknesses in the company's security, STEALTH assigns contractor Troy Spade to the case. But when a sniper takes a shot at him on a crowded city street, Troy has no choice but to cooperate with the FBI.
Agent Kate Scot is shocked to the core when Troy reveals he's contracted to investigate ConFlux, her family's company.
Who is trying to eliminate Troy and Kate? Why? Is it to keep them from finding out the truth or something else? When Kate's father is murdered, even more questions are raised. Who is Sal Baker, besides an engineer for ConFlux? What's going on with Kate's mother - Deborah Scot - and the head of ConFlux's IT Department - Alexi Seigal? Who's behind the selling of company secrets?
This edge-of-the seat read is exactly what I expect from Ms. Winters and she definitely delivered. I look forward to reading future books in this series.
If I could have read this book over 2 days, I think I would have gotten into it more. With work, and family commitments it took me two weeks to finish it. With that being said my review may not reflect the book the way it should. Troy Spade blames himself for the death of Tiffany who he loved. The convoy they were in was attacked. After her death he threw himself into work. He is now a private contractor. He meets Kate Scot after an attempted sniper attempt. He didn’t know at the time that the company he works for is actually owned by Kate’s family. I loved the way he was guarding Kate’s house after the shooting. He thought he was being sneaky. Kate wasn’t shy at all. She invited him into her home. I enjoyed the banter between the two. I was expecting more action in this book, but it was more suspense than anything. It may have taken me forever to finish this book, but it turned out to be a decent book.
Talk about a great story that Danica has written. She draws you into a story of mystery, suspense and romance. It has some neat twists in this story about Troy Spade and Kate Scot. They meet in unusual circumstances and have to deal with unique situations. Its fast paced but not to fast on the romance side. For love takes time. Its nice to be back with Stealth. I like that Troy & Kate have to learn to trust in this story. For it shows how they both grow. The ending will surprise you. Danica does a excellent job of writing this book. I look forward to the next one in this series. J
I enjoyed this intriguing romance. I bought this at a local store and I voluntarily chose to review it. I've given this a 4* rating. Because of the language and the sexual content, this is not for the under 18 readers. Put a FBI agent and a stealth agent together and you get all kinds of sparks flying. When neither want to share information but want to get to know each other, more sparks are happening. Add an unknown sharp shooter in the mix and stir it up, you get this story. Lots of things to draw you in and keep you turning the pages. And this has a very interesting ending.
I can always rely on Danica Winters to provide a heart pounding romantic suspense. This is a start to a new series with sexy, strong characters and plenty of action. Looking forward to reading more in the series!
Read this over the weekend and its only bleh. Hero seems like a fantasy who in real life would be problematic same with heroine. Very poor writing, very passive, so many 'was' makes point of view a problem. Author needs to find more deeper insight and empathy will help her be a better writer.
Awesome book! This book was such a ride, I never saw that ending coming. The characters in this book was great, I like seeing that both characters had their moments where they opened up. It made the characters more realistic.
