Some things are meant to stay as books !! Nice effort but it’s a no for me 😍!! I still enjoyed the characters overall just execution was odd. How do you turn 17 pages into 1 hour and 30 minutes is a stretch but it’s been done before..

Reto 2021 : Un libro con menos de 100 páginas
Es un relato corto y bastante ligero, era narrado por Mark, el protagonista adolescente que está encerrado en un bucle temporal.
Todos los días son 4 de agosto, pero de momento a él no le molesta, entre sus entretenciones están el ir a la alberca, a la biblioteca y leer las colecciones de fantasía y ciencia ficción o sólo andar por ahí. Un día, cuando decide pasar su tarde en la alberca, se percata de una chica que antes no había estado ahí, se le acerca y como sospecho ella también se encuentra viviendo el bucle. Y hasta ahí lo dejó xd.
No es una historia muy profunda que digamos ni que no se haya tratado antes, el tema del bucle es sólo usado para hablar de otro tema pero aún así me gustó. Me agradaron los personajes, el como estaba escrito y lo que me querían contar. Esta especial para desconectar un rato.
Lo que no me agrado tanto fue la nota del autor, explicando como se hizo la película :'v pero como eso es externo, no lo tomate en cuenta xd.

What a powerful little read! I was indulging in one of my historical dramas on Amazon Prime when the preview for this movie came on. I immediately wondered if it had been developed from a book and quickly discovered that it had. Needless to say, Kindle had my purchase within the next couple of minutes and I read it right away!
The idea of time loops have always captured my attention, and I’ve secretly always dreamed of magically stumbling upon one myself. I suppose I did in a way as I comfortably left my world to follow the main character Mark into his unique and entertaining story. Though the story ended with a twist that pulled my heart strings till my eyes watered, it was very beautiful and understanding. It also couldn’t help but remind me of my own conflicted obsession with time. Often, I feel so trapped in the demands of my illness versus the normal daily functions of life that I feel robbed of my precious time.
“…for the first time in my life I was looking up and seeing what a crazy, enormous, beautiful world I’d been living in without even knowing it.�
When I feel good enough to experience something as simple as the sun on my face and see the world in action for a normal minute on a normal day, that quote describes exactly how I feel.
Not only did the story warm my heart but so did Lev Grossman’s letter at the end. It left me full of hope and inspiration, grasping onto the interpreted message of “never give up.� I admire his devotion to this story as well as his fight in becoming a writer. I absolutely look forward to watching the movie!

I watched the movie awhile ago. So I naturally had to read the book as well. It was jut okay. I definitely thought the movie was better. I didn’t like the language in it, and I felt like if it were longer I might have enjoyed it a bit more.

Fue un libro divertido, muy corto, pero sin dudas que la nota del autor es la mejor nota del autor que he leído en mi vida. Incluso es algo que me impactado porque el autor menciona cosas de su trabajo que me han sucedido y me han frustrado, pero leer su nota de autor me hace ver las cosas desde otra perspectiva.
¿Estar en un bucle repitiendo siempre el mismo día es realmente malo? Bueno, todo depende de como veas ese día porque para el protagonista de esta historia siempre es un buen día para iniciar y hacer lo que le gusta porque siempre va a tener tiempo para hacerlo. El siempre lee, el siempre evita ciertos momentos, el siempre observa instantes perfectos y memorables que cuando los días corren uno tras otro nosotros no nos damos cuenta.
Este libro es super corto como ya he dicho más arriba, sin embargo muestra bastante de las cosas que se nos pasan por alto, como las sonrisas genuinas que pueden ser milagrosas, los sonrisas que tenemos al recibir un mensaje en nuestro móvil, el truco en patineta que sale Perfecto después de tantos días intentándolo� son tantos momentos perfectos que no nos parecen perfectos porque nunca nos detenemos a ver la vida y dejamos que el tiempo nos pase por encima.
Otra de las cosas que nunca observamos o creemos es que no todo gira a nuestro alrededor, a veces giramos nosotros, no todo pasa por algo, al menos no un “algo� que tenga que ver con nosotros, mas bien tiene que ver con otros, con nuestro alrededor, no todo tiene que ser para nosotros, a veces solo somos elegidos para contemplar y formar parte de eso, para que lo compartan por nosotros, pero casi nunca nos damos cuenta de ello porque una gran parte de nuestro yo es bastante egoísta.
Divertido, emocionante, incluso hasta triste, así defino yo este libro.

I've had this books since 2021 and I watched the movie back then, I finally read it. I guess yes it tells the point but I didn't enjoy it. didn't engage with the characters or the story. it lacked so much.

Este relato lo lei originalmente en la antología de de summer days and summer nights y como no me gusto nada, entiendo que resaltó esta historia por tratar de uno de mis tropes favoritos, el time loop, y le dí 3.5/5.
Ahora lo re-lei porque acaba de salir una película para Amazon Prime. La historia es ok, nada espectacular, así que le bajo media estrella.
Mark esta viviendo un bucle temporal, reviviendo el 4 de agosto una y otra vez, hasta que nota algo diferente, una chica, Margaret, que también está dentro del bucle. Juntos deciden vivir el día al máximo, encontrando aquellas pequeñas cosas maravillosas, esos momentos especiales y únicos que pasa en ese día.
Está bien, un poco cursi pero la recomiendo.

Es un libro muy muy finito, tiene 78 páginas de las cuales las últimas 15 son una nota del autor, así que es perfecto para desconectar y pasar unas horas de entretenimiento. Que además la historia es bastante curiosa, sencillicita y cuqui, así que como lectura veraniega es un diez. Aunque tampoco podéis esperar una bomba súper novedosa porque se trata de un tema bastante visto, sí que podéis disfrutar con unos personajes cercanos y algunos puntos bonitos y originales. Es una historia de autodescubrimiento, de esperanza y miedos todo ello con un toque romántico bastante bien llevado.

Wow! Sure a lot of unpack in that short story. It was beautiful! I had tears in my eyes as the read the ending, but there were so many other things I loved too. The idea of these small miracles and perfect moments that are in front of us every day, and how we need to remember to live in the moment. The author's note was fantastic as well. Loved it all!

En mi opinión, el mayor gancho de este relato es el bucle temporal. ¿Quién puede resistirse a un misterio de este calibre científico-paranormal? Desde pequeña me ha fascinado este interrogante espacio-temporal que detiene la vida sin asfixiarla. El potencial es inagotable, como han demostrado libros y películas que han tratado este tema.
¿Qué ingenio se le habrá ocurrido a este autor en particular? Eso es lo que yo me pregunto antes de zambullirme en una nueva versión del bucle temporal. El relato alcanza las 60 páginas. Es bonito y fluido, y maravillosamente capaz de contar una historia completa, divertida y conmovedora. La premisa sitúa a un adolescente en un pueblo aburrido en pleno verano. Ni qué decir tiene que, cuando se da cuenta (bastante filosóficamente, por cierto) de que puede vivir el mismo día una y otra vez sin consecuencias, se dedica a robar bancos y matar hormigas... No, jajaja, se lo pasa pipa leyendo. ¿No os sentís identificados? :-D
Mark no llega nunca a perder la cabeza en su disfrute del día estancado, aunque se pregunta algunas cuestiones y pone a prueba algunos límites. No es hasta que se topa con otra inquilina del extraño suceso, Margaret, que su mundo se trastoca aún más vertiginosamente. No veáis lo que cambia la cosa cuando ambos cruzan sus perspectivas del evento. De ahí nace el título del relato, ese mapa de sucesos portentosos y dignos de enmarcar a lo largo del pueblo. Cada día puede ser igual, pero siempre ocurren cosas que vale la pena atesorar.
Juntos, Mark y Margaret comparten un viaje in situ a la curiosidad, los sentimientos y un secreto que rompe, no sólo el misterio que envuelve el pueblo, sino también el corazón. Así que, aunque hay más amor que romance, el resultado es mágico.
La narración tiene un toque inocente, casi dulce, sin que falte la voz de un sarcasmo inofensivo. Humorística, pero de un modo sencillo y amistoso. Está repleta de referencias cinematográficas que traen buenos recuerdos y el epílogo cuenta ampliamente el proceso de adaptación al cine, el cual resulta de lo más interesante. Además, incluye un minucioso mapa del pueblo y sus instantes especiales. ¡Qué gracia me hizo la mención a cierto actor! Ojalá hubiera podido materializarse en pantalla.
La historia se puede disfrutar literalmente. Sin embargo, encierra un significado metafórico en ese bucle temporal tan enigmático que le da un trasfondo mucho más profundo, enriquecedor y tierno a toda la experiencia.

I read this beautiful short story back in 2018 in the Summer Days and Summer Nights anthology and was completely in love with it! I'm so glad to see it has been turned into a Netflix movie because it was just so lovely, and that means we'll be getting more content from the story, too. Definitely recommend this one.

When I first came across this book I was intrigued by not only the concept (time travel in 50 pages, how are you going to manage that?) but also by the fact that the author Lev Grossman had written a YA romance when I only knew him for his popular adult fantasy series The Magicians.
The plot was short-lived, which was to be expected considering this was a novella, but the pacing was exceptional despite that. The idea itself was perfect and on one level very touching until the ending revealed the true mechanism behind the time loop and that really burst the sweet bubble the protagonist and the love interest lived in, both literally and conceptually. How could a story with complex notions behind it think it could’ve pulled off the “it’s all because of the power of love� idea and not undermine the integrity of the story and it’s science fiction roots that were woven in throughout?
Yet, whilst the power of love angle put on a dampener on it all, for the most part this was pretty good. And as a concept it’s not hard to see that it would’ve been a great full-length book with a little more planning and a lot more pages.

It takes immense talent to make a short story full of such a magnitude of profoundness. This little gem is itself, a tiny perfect thing. Loved it just as much, probably even more than the movie. The author’s note only added to my love for this. A forever favorite.

I saw this pop up on my library's Overdrive page and I was like, "Whoaa, Lev Grossman has a new YA book? And it's a movie? And I didn't hear about it??" Wellll it's really a short story. (Or novella? Long short story or short novella?) and it's ebook only. and the movie is an Amazon Prime original. so anyway that's how I missed it.
It was cute! It reminded me of the Magicians books (my problematic favs) in that it seems like Lev Grossman thinks he needs a white boy protagonist as like a Trojan Horse to trick you into realizing that surprise: women characters can have agency and feelings too. And I would submit to Lev that actually, what if next time you just tried making a woman main character? Could you try it????

I read this before I watched the film. I love these sort of farfetched ideas in fiction (one of my favorite books is H.F. Saint's Memoirs of an Invisible Man). I wrote a farfetched story that I hope to flesh out into a full novel this year, thus my interest in this.
Mentioning other similar stories (Groundhog Day, Edge of Tomorrow, Time Bandits, Flatland, etc.) took away from this story and made it even less original and more of a fraud. The author seemed so self-conscious about stealing the idea from the elsewhere that the story never really took on a life of its own.

I loved this story, it has the same melancholic and somewhat nihilist tone as his other works I've read in the past. Lev Grossman is probably my favorite (living) author. I haven't read a bad story by him yet and I always enjoy his sense of humor. I will be glad to read anything he writes in the future. Highly recommended if you want something that will make you think deep thoughts and feel deep feelings, but also make you laugh out loud. The audio was a great way to spend a couple of hours.

I saw an ad yesterday for this new movie on Amazon Prime and immediately had to know if it was a book. I was so happy that it is and bought it right away.
The story is so sweet and beautiful and I was so afraid that it would be too short to cover everything I needed to feel reading a story but it wasn't at all. It's perfect! Then if possible Lev Grossman's Author Note was even more beautiful and made me cry I'm not ashamed to say.
10/10 recommend and will read again

La verdad no se que decir de la historia, es que me falto mucho, se que es corta, pero creo que el autor la pudo haber desarrollado más y la calificación que le dí es porque ya por el 60% de la historia mejora, no mucho pero si se ve un avance, pero sigo sin saber muy bien que leí.
Es que esta es una historia sobre un chico que es Mark que se queda atorado en un Bucle, creo que desde ahí empezamos mal, por que solo con ese hecho empece a imaginarme la historia de Miss Peregrine, por el hecho de que es la única que he leído que igual maneje este concepto de los bucles, pero por lo que veo son historias completamente diferentes, ya que en una es un bucle hecho para sobrevivir, pero en esta simplemente por una extraña razón que no sabemos, pero que al final se me hace muy absurda la razón, esta atrapado.
Pero que por cosas nada creíbles conoce a Margaret, una chica que por lo visto igual esta atrapada dentro del mismo bucle, otra cosa que no me creo nada, es que si no mal entendí (les digo comparo mucho el concepto del bucle con Miss Peregrine) los bucles, no salen de la nada uno los crea, por alguna situación (vuelvo a Miss Peregrine, ahí es para sobrevivir, por el hecho de la bomba nuclear)
Pero es que en un principio no le vi trama al libro, algun argumento, no se a que queria llegar al autor, esto por que a Mark en todo momento le daba igual el bucle, lo unico que no le gustaba es que fuera en un día de verano donde hace mucho calor, pero por lo demás el bucle le parecia bien, por el poder ir a la biblioteca a leer, la situación cobra medio sentido cuando conoce a Margaret que eso se me hizo demasiado absurdo.
Perdón pero no de la nada vas a llegar con alguien y decirle "oye, ¿conoces los bucles temporales?, por que creo que estamos en uno" eso nunca sucede y ya de la nada se hacen amigos, ¡What! eso no es creíble, ahí es cuando digo que al autor le falto profundizar mas la historia y desde un principio ya se notaba que fue una relación muy forzada, Margaret ni siquiera estaba interesada en Mark y el desde el primer momento ya la amaba, que eso se los crea su abuela.
Y la historia tenia algunas cosas que me hacían ruido, por ejemplo, se supone que en un bucle temporal, a determinada hr en este caso de la historia a las 12 am todo volvía a su lugar como si fuera el inicio del mismo día, ok, hasta ahí entiendo y todo bien, pero si todo vuelve a su lugar, como es posible que Mark pudiera seguir mandandole mensajes a Margaret por que hay una parte en donde ella hace alución de que se dio cuenta de que su cel volvía a configurarse como al inicio del día, entonces supongo que perdía el cel de Mark que tenia apuntado, ¿como es que se podían volver a comunicar? Como no lo conocía obviamente tendría que perder el cel, a menos de que se escribieran y se quedaran de ver en algún sitio y siempre pedirse el numero de cel.
No se pero creo que la historia tiene muchas incongruencias con respecto a lo que es un bucle temporal y como les digo hay una parte en la cual el libro mejora, que es el hecho de que entendemos el motivo de Margaret para seguir en el bucle por que ella no quiere arreglar las cosas, es que de hecho ni Mark quiere, el simplemente por que se siente cómodo, pero ella tiene un motivo más fuerte, que la verdad es muy predecible y ya lo veía venir, no me sorprendió para nada, pero que es muy entendible y que hasta yo creo que haría lo mismo.
Pero el final, dios, que final tan malo, muy abrupto y nada creíble, cuando lo lean sabrán por que lo digo, solo dejare el hecho de que se me hace muy tonto que el amor sea la respuesta, cuando se nota que fue algo muy forzado y eso hizo que me tardara un poco en dar mi calificación para el libro y traerles mi opinión, por que me puse a ver la película, que la vedad me aburrió y la vi solamente para ver si podía cambiar mi opinión sobre el libro, cosa que no sucedió y la película me confundió aun más por que hay una parte en donde Mark conoce a una chica y todos los días trata de hablar con ella, ahí es donde comprobé mi teoría con lo del cel.
Pero bueno, creo que el libro no fue para mi, fue muy corto, creo que al autor le falto desarrollar más las cosas e investigar un poco más sobre el concepto del bucle, que por las notas que deja al final del libro es una cosa algo filosófica, pero que de todas maneras no le veo sentido, sorry pero a pesar de la calificación que le dí, este libro no es lo que yo me esperaba y no lo pondré en lo peor del año, por que te entretiene eso que ni, pero gracias, yo paso y como siempre les digo en casos así Dreamers, léanlo bajo su propio riesgo.

I started watching the movie on Prime video one night about a week ago, thinking “this sounds interesting, a movie would be nice.� Either I got distracted or fell asleep - which is not a knock against the movie- I do that with just about everything lately- but I didn’t end up finishing it and figured I’d come back to it later.
Imagine my surprise when I’m searching for some new magical fantasy books to read, and search Lev Grossman, knowing I loved The Magicians trilogy, to get some ideas of similar authors. Instead I find that he is the author of the short story that inspired the movie (and also wrote the script). Also- a short story? Teen drama? Something I can read quickly without my fatigue or inattentiveness driving me away? Sold!
I loved the magical element of time loops tied with a story reminiscent of John Green (a favorite YA author of mine), and now I want Grossman and Green to collaborate and create a fantasy-YA love child. This story is sort of already that. What made me love this, and might make me upgrade to 5 stars from the 4 I already gave it, is that it is such a great approach to the meaning of time- something I often say has no meaningful construct during the pandemic. January was yesterday. It was 6 months ago. It’s tomorrow. Ultimately, it doesn’t matter. Time (and life) is full of moments and it’s what you make of those moments that matters. Yes, life is full of loss and pain, but it is also full of beauty and beginnings. Sometimes we all need a reminder of that duality, that the next perfect thing is just around the corner.

I first read this short story as a part of the "Summer Days and Summer Nights" anthology (edited by Stephanie Perkins).
There's just something about time loops that gets me everytime. So when I watched the movie Palm Springs last summer it really reminded me of this short story. And then I found out that there was also a movie adapton of "The Map of Tiny Perfect Things".
Of course, I couldn't just watch it.. I had to reread the short story first. Which is luckily available as an eshort now (I got rid of the anthology ages ago). Initially, I wanted to save the reread for summer (ideally August 4 because this story takes place that day) but since I hated almost every book I read this March so far, I needed something I knew I would love.
And what can I tell you? It's even more beautiful than I rememberd. I loved every aspect of it and cried in the end. Just a tiny perfect short story!

Pensé en lo que es el tiempo, cómo segundo a segundo nos rompemos, perdemos momentos a cada rato, dejamos que se escapen como un animal de peluche pierde el relleno, hasta que un día ya nada queda y lo perdemos todo, para siempre. Y luego, a la par, estamos ganando segundos, momento a momento. Cada uno es un don, hasta que al final de nuestra vida estamos sentados sobre una abundante reserva de momentos. Una abundancia inimaginable. El tiempo era esas dos cosas simultáneamente.
Es una historia muy cute como para pasar el rato pero al ser un relato se quedó corta en profundidad, quizá vea la película.

Es un relato muy cortito que me gustó mucho. Me encanta cómo escribe el autor, autor que conocí con La flecha plateada, un middle-grade precioso. No tenía idea de qué trataba esta historia, pero solo con ver el nombre del autor y el título del libro me decidí a pedirlo -gracias Océano�- y no pudo gustarme más!
Me encanta cómo jugó el autor con el tema del tiempo, básicamente de eso se trata. Los momentos, el instante perfecto, la probabilidad. Sin dudas una lectura fresca y preciosa.

La primera vez que conocí esta historia fue porque vi la película y se convirtió en una de mis favoritas; siempre la recuerdo con mucho cariño.
Este libro es una historia resumida de la película, las dos son fantásticas. Y lo que las hace especiales es que el autor trabajo ambas, poniéndole a cada una lo que necesitaban para ser memorables.

It’s impressive how much can be packed into a short story. There’s plenty to laugh about and think about with this one.

Довольно заурядная повесть про мальчика и девочку и день сурка, зато весьма неплохое послесловие автора � спасибо рецензентам на гудридз, благодаря которым я его, собственно, не пропустила :)
