How to Catch a Bad Boy was an excellent read featuring a great second chance romance between a private investigator and the man she's investigating.
After being accused of embezzling millions, Asher Edmond has no idea where to start to clear his name. That is until his onetime lover Lani Li, a private investigator based out of Dallas, bails Asher out of jail with the goal of using him to find the money for her client. The pair agree to work together to find out who stole the money. With everyone around them suspicious of Asher, the pair have their work cut out for them if they're to find the true culprit. But as Asher and Lani work closely, old feelings come back to the surface.
Second chance romances are some of my favorites, so I was excited to pick up this book. Asher and Lani have amazing chemistry despite their past issues from their first relationship. At first, Lani believes Asher to be the embezzler due to the evidence against him as well as the fact she has some resentment against him due to how their relationship ended five years ago. Reluctantly she agrees to work with him as it's the only way she can get the information she needs. I enjoyed the scenes of Lani and Asher investigating the embezzlement as they actually work well together despite their differences. The case proved to be quite interesting and I enjoyed the direction the author took things. Asher and Lani's relationship deepens as the book goes on with the attraction between them building until they inevitably give in to that attraction. Ultimately I was happy with the way their romance played out.
The Texas Cattleman's Club: Heir Apparent series is a sub-series of the larger Texas Cattleman’s Club series that in total includes over 100 books. Each story works as a standalone with the connection between them being the club and side characters. In How to Catch a Bad Boy there is only one scene that actually takes place at the club when Lani takes an interview there. A number of the side characters in this book make up the main couples in the other books in the series and I definitely plan to pick up other books in the series in the future.
Overall How to Catch a Bad Boy was an enjoyable read and I will definitely be picking up the next book in the series to find out how some loose plot threads are tied up.
I liked the chemistry & I felt sorry for Asher. I felt like Lani & Asher focused more on their chemistry than Asher's innocence. I wish this story was an Harlequin Intrigue instead of Desire.
Terrific second chance love story combined with a mystery of missing funds. Arrested for embezzlement at the end of the previous book (), Asher Edmond sits in jail wondering what happened. He insists he is innocent, but no one believes him, not even his own family. SO he is shocked when former girlfriend Lani Li bails him out of jail.
Now a private investigator, Lani bailed Asher out for one reason - she needs him to lead her to the missing money her client wants recovered. If she succeeds, her PI business will get the boost it needs to survive. She neither knows nor cares if he is innocent.
I liked Asher, but I have to say he wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed. Adopted by Rusty Edmonds when he married Asher's mom, Asher spent years trying to earn Rusty's approval before giving up. Instead, he lived down to Rusty's opinion, spending his time as a playboy polo player. After that, he took a job with the family business and barely paying lip service to that. But as the story went on, I saw a different side to Asher and realized there was more to him than initially portrayed.
I also liked Lani. A strong, determined woman, she fights every step of the way for the life she wants. She has a tough, cynical exterior that hides a heart wary of being risked again. Like Asher, I saw changes in her as the book progressed.
I enjoyed watching the development of Lani and Asher's relationship. Their previous romance occurred between two young, somewhat immature people who had differing goals in life. While Asher wanted Lani to go with him on his polo matches, she had her eyes set on a career with the FBI. Their parting affected them both when it came to future relationships. When Lani showed up to bail out Asher, the sparks between them flared again. Dismayed by her reaction, Lani fights her feelings, determined not to fall for his charms again. At the same time, Asher would love to pick up where they left off. He doesn't give up when Lani shuts him down.
I liked how Asher found ways to keep himself close to Lani. All that time together gave her the chance to see Asher in a new light. Complicating matters, the attraction between them proved to be irresistible. Slowly, the new Asher replaced Lani's memories of the old Asher, and the walls around her heart crumbled. At the same time, Asher admitted his past mistakes and struggled to become the man he thought she wanted. But none of it would do any good if Asher wasn't cleared of the embezzlement charges.
When Lani arrived in Royal, she was convinced that Asher was guilty of the charges. All she wanted was for him to admit it and tell her where the money was. She didn't believe his claims of innocence, but Lani also knew he couldn't help her from jail. Bailing him out came with the condition that she was responsible for him, requiring her to stay with him at his apartment. I liked how Asher's apparent cluelessness about some of the embezzlement's details opened Lani's eyes to the possibility that Asher had been framed. Some interesting scenes of their cooperation showed that they made a good team. I loved following their investigation and seeing that it ran along the same lines as my suspicions. I was glued to the pages when Asher took matters into his own hands and ended up in trouble. I felt the frustration when their quarry escaped but cheered when Asher managed to come up with a crucial bit of evidence. I can't wait for the next book and to see if the thief finally gets caught.
I loved the ending. Lani had a bit of fun jerking Asher's chain at the jail. Asher's big moment was terrific. I loved seeing his vulnerability as he opened his heart to Lani. I hope to see a little more of them in the next book.
This reunion of first loves is packed full of intrigue! With the next book in the Texas Cattleman’s Club: Heir Apparent series Cat Schield picks up the saga just after one of the Edmond family members has been arrested for the missing money from the Soiree on the Bay fundraiser. The premise was quick to catch my attention and I enjoyed watching these two find their way back towards each other, but there were a couple of plot holes that left me perplexed a bit. First off the author mentioned in her letter to readers at the beginning of the book that she enjoyed writing this strong woman of color, but there was no development in the story that led me to believe she was a woman of color. No description other than black silkly hair, no cultural enrichment portrayed, no development of her heritage. I would expect a lot more before describing her as a WOC honestly. Secondly, I felt really disappointed that the family connection between Asher and his siblings was left so empty. There was no interaction before they turned their back on him and even once things changed at the end there was no big grand reconnection where they admitted any fault for doubting the guy they have claimed in the past to love as one of their own. Overall I enjoyed the general arc of the story and look forward to wrapping up the series with the next book coming up. It’s been quite a ride with the Texas Cattleman’s Club as always!
How to Catch a Bad Boy by Cat Schield is the seventh book in the Texas Cattleman’s Club: Heir Apparent series. I found this story to be amazingly good. Unfortunately, this isn’t a standalone read. How to Catch a Bad Boy is an enemies to lovers, second chance romance five years in the making. The story contains spoilers relating to books three thru six.
From the moment Asher appeared on the page in the first book, Back in the Texan’s Bed written by Naima Simone, I had a little crush on him. He is definitely book boyfriend material. There's more to Asher than meets the eye. He has a lot of layers that he doesn't show people. But he definitely has his reasons. Asher is the adopted step-son of Royal’s Rusty Edmond. With his step-siblings, Ross and Gina, and Ross’s best friend Billy Holmes, the group with Rusty’s backing organized Soiree on the Bay, the luxury food, art, and wine festival scheduled to be held on Edmond family-owned Appaloosa Island. Proceeds from the event were earmarked to help at least one charitable organization in the area.
Rumors have been circulating for a while that money has been disappearing from the event coffers. When tragedy strikes, the rumors become reality and the extent of this reality is staggering. Asher, whose name keeps coming up in transactions becomes the prime suspect and is left to find a way to defend himself, once his own family turns their backs on him.
Enter Dallas private investigator Lani Li. Lani and Asher share a history, one that involves her ending up with a broken heart. This time, she’s determined not to fall for his charms. If Lani can find and recover the missing money, she has the possibility of truly making a name for herself in the PI world.
If I could give a book more than 5 stars, Cat’s How to Catch a Bad Boy would be the book! Asher and Lani really and truly owned my heart. I will admit to my heart sinking when I read the blurb for this book. I never imagined this would be the story for Asher. My heart broke for him and everything that he had to endure. Lani was the perfect heroine for him. “She was methodical. He was spontaneous. Yet they both loved a challenge and never let fear stop them from engaging in thrilling adventures. Lani made Asher drop his shields and reveal his true self in order to be with her. I wish I could look into the future and see how these two are after this story ended.
Bidding on the Texan by Barbara Dunlop is the final book in the Texas Cattleman’s Club: Heir Apparent series. I’m excited to see how this series ends, after all the revelations of How to Catch a Bad Boy.

“It’s not a bad thing to rely on yourself, but when you can’t let yourself count on anyone else, then it stops being something positive.

This is the 7th book in the TCC: Heir Apparent series.
This story involves Asher Edmonds who the adoptive son of Rusty Edmonds, who is in all the previous books. The story revolves around an entertainment complex being built on a Island he owns. In this book Asher has been accused of embezzlement and who should come to bail him out of jail when he was arrested but the woman he left 5 years before Lani Li.
Lani Li was sure that Asher was guilty of this crime, but as she was hired by another to find out where the money was, Lani can’t put her feeling for Asher aside, and the passion the two had five years ago comes back like a fuse to a fire. Does she think he is guilty or does she believe his pleas for her to believe that Asher is innocent of the crime. He needs someone to believe in him. And he will do anything to prove he has been set up. Because of their past relationship Lani has trouble trusting Asher, but as the information she has found may just prove that he is right, her heart is involved, but is Asher's. Can she trust that he is no longer that “Frat boy Polo player and he wants a future with her. Can she find the truth and give her heart back to Asher...
I like this story line and love how it takes the readers back to Royal, Texas. Asher is a devil may care former Polo playing who has a secret he has not shared with anyone, not even his family as to why his adopted father threated to cut him off from the family funds. They both have trust issues. Asher got to me from the first page of this book. Who cannot love a guy who has been falsely accused of a crime and thinks his family is leaving him in jail and believe he really would betray his family in this way? The reunited lovers will work together find the truth, both about where the funds went and where their future together goes. Lots of intrigue and passion in this story that keeps you turning the page and cheering Asher on to innocent of the crime. The only crime he has committed is falling in love with the woman he never should have let get away...
I received an ARC of this book for my honest review.
I really enjoyed How to Catch a Bad Boy. As the seventh book in the ‘Texas Cattleman’s Club: Heir Apparent series, part of this book’s purpose is clearly to start pulling together all the various threads introduced through the rest of the series, which it does very well. There’s a big mystery as the story opens, and some distinct answers by the time the story finishes, but in the middle of everything that’s going on is a phenomenal second-chance romance. Schield develops the relationship between Asher and Lana carefully, revealing sympathetic, emotional and relatable characters that are fun to be with and that you definitely root for. There’s a lot of explicit sex in the story, but it doesn’t overwhelm Asher and Lana getting to know each other again. And I loved Asher as a hero. He’s wounded, a bit naïve, a former ‘frat boy, but very, very clearly a hero with a lot of heart. His feelings for Lana are never in doubt, and I loved that. Schield did a great job taking a ‘bad boy and a man who is portrayed as a villain and turning him into a hero. Series readers should definitely be picking up this Heir Apparent title, as crucial things are happening, but I am sure that the book would be enjoyable even if you’re not all up on what’s been going on in Royal, Texas lately.
How To Catch A Bad Boy by Cat Schield is a September Harlequin Desire release. It is a a part of the Texas Cattleman's club series. Quite honestly I haven't read any other books in the Cattleman's club series. However Cat Schield is my favorite Harlequin Desire writer and I find Harlequin Desire books to be quick, light reads (which is much needed when I read a lot of dark fiction).
While I do feel like I am missing some backstory by picking it up at this book, it works fine as a standalone title. While the premise of a PI investigator getting her former lover out of jail for an investigation on him would be very questionable ethic in real life, somehow having it in a juicy romance novel seems quite sexy. It's definitely a testament to how fiction can take us places that we can't go to in real life. I have mentioned on other occasions that Schield is really excellent at writing sizzling sex scenes, and this book certainly lives up to that standard.
If you are on the lookout for something short and sexy I would definitely recommend How to Catch A Bad Boy!
It has been a while since I have read a Harlequin Desire. I have to say the publishers have still managed to maintain their quality to some extent. At the same time, in this book, the story has branched out to a different premise. For a change, it is the hero who is in a difficult situation and the heroine who is bailing him out. I must say it's a refreshing change; it was definitely interesting to read.
The hero gets charged for embezzlement and the heroine is hired by the man, who lost his money, to try and get it back from the offender. Though the heroine wants it to be him due to their past history, she eventually becomes instrumental in helping him and finding the real culprit.
I liked the way the author has narrated the story. It was fairly engaging and slightly intriguing. The main characters were ok but not very likable. I particularly didn't have a very high opinion about the hero. That's the main reason I am giving the book 4 stars.

This is book seven in The Texas Cattleman's Club: Heir Apparent Series and it is Lani and Asher's story and it is a must read. Lani and Asher have past history from year's ago but when he is jailed for something that he says he hasn't done it is Lani that bails him out even though she is still wary of him after what happened between them and wants to know what is going on and see if someone has framed him without letting her heart get involved and she needs to know if Asher is trying to make a fool of her yet again only time will tell. I absolutely loved this book and I couldn't put it down as it was so addictive and kept you on the edge of your seat with all the action. Cat Schield is an amazing author and writer and I have read many of her books and she never disappoints her reader's and I definitely recommend you read this book and others by her and you will definitely not be disappointed.

Asher and Lani have a past and it is due to this she is hired to investigate and prove Asher stole the missing millions, but is that an advantage or disadvantage? Absolutely at times Asher acts like a frat boy, but we soon learn that it is now a coping mechanism and during Lani's investigation they get to know each other again and see how each other has grown, however that doesn't change the fact it still looks like Asher stole the money. Lani's determination to find out who is behind the theft has you hoping it is not Asher as they are so good together, but trying to work out who it really is takes you on a windy path that reveals a secret that could solve the theft. This has the perfect mix of laughs, mystery and romance which has you turning the page to see not only will this time around be the right time for Asher and Lani but also get the right person for theft!

*Spoilers* Cat Shield delivers a great addition to the Texas Cattleman's Club series with this newest book. Bad boy Asher Edmond in jail for embezzlement?? HOW? WHY? But when a former girlfriend, the one he let go a long time ago, comes back to help solve the mystery of the missing money, she's NOT in it to prove him innocent but to find the money. Former FBI candidate, Lani Li, wanted to join the FBI but chose to open her own private investigation company instead. When she's hired by a mysterious benefactor to find the money, she has to join forces with Asher. Twists and turns abound and they rediscover what they meant to each other. This is a great mystery with a HEA included in the love story. Thanks, Cat!!

Oof! Asher broke my heart in this book. He just wants to be loved and valued for himself but everyone who should be doing that have turned their backs on him. It’s no wonder he hides who he really is behind layers of masks and social niceties. Lani drove me a little batty. I completely understand what she feared, but I thought it was cruel that she kept taking those fears out on Asher who just so desperately needed somebody to believe in him for a change. I loved that these two got a second chance, since it sounds like they both botched it pretty bad the first time. I can’t say I was surprised at who turned out to be the ultimate mastermind behind the embezzling, but I was caught off guard by the reasons why. I’m looking forward to seeing what ultimately comes from it all in the final book. I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book through Booksprout.
When Asher finds himself charged with a crime he didn’t commit the last person he expected to see was his ex-girlfriend Lani. Their relationship didn’t end well so finding the guilty party may be easier than convincing Lani that he isn’t responsible, but he is determined to prove that he isn’t the man who hurt her in the past.
Lani is a private investigator who has been hired to find the missing funds but for that to happen she needs to find out who is responsible. Asher is her biggest lead and now she needs to uncover if he is guilty or collateral damage in a bigger conspiracy.
Asher is trying to deal with the hurt he feels when the only person who is willing to give him the benefit of the doubt is the one person who shouldn’t. As he and Lani spend time together the chemistry between them ignites as they realize that it is finally their time.
I liked the first chapter from there on it was downhill and I confess to giving up on this book very quickly and skimmed to the last chapter. If the last chapter was any indication, I am super happy I didn’t waste my time actually reading through the book. Everyone involved were so inept, they let the actual criminal who embezzled get away
This is Book 7 in the Texas Cattleman's Club: Heir Apparent Series and my first read by this author. And I must say that I quite enjoyed the storyline and the characters. It is a heartfelt, second chance romance between former one time lovers, PI Lani and accused embezzler Asher. Once they re-connect, it is a journey of self-discovery as these two flawed characters figure out a renewed relationship between them. It is a love story with enough drama, steam, suspense, family dynamic, twists and turns, and engaging secondary characters to keep the reader interested. Romance with a bit of mystery and intrigue thrown in for good measure. It can be read as a standalone but you enhance your reading pleasure if you read the other books in the series.

An engaging romantic thriller. Lani & Asher have history a passionate Summer romance that fizzled out many years before leaving them both without closure. Present day, and Asher is in jail accused of embezzlement, but insisting on his innocence. Lani is now a private detective whose client has engaged her to get to the truth of Asher’s situation as it is evident that all is not as it seems. I enjoyed the push & pull of the story as Asher & Lani fight the reawakening of their feelings that occurs as they are forced to live in proximity with each other while investigating the crime. I really liked how the author developed both the main characters and Lani’s ethnicity was a refreshing contrast from your run of the mill romantic ‘heroine.
The next installment in the TCC series. Asher is being blamed for stealing money from the big Soiree on the Bay. I have said all along that he was being framed...His ex Lani is there to help him even though she doesn't want to but there is so much history! Can she see Asher isn't behind this in time before he is put back in jail? They start investigating and it turns out I have been right all along who is behind all the bad things happening.. You have to read this story to check out what is going on..You won't regret it!
Part of a series: This was a fairly enjoyable romantic suspense but I think my enjoyment of it may have been enhanced had I read at least some of the previous books in the series. There was a lot of push and pull between the main characters and it took them a while to sort their feelings out. Their past history also kept getting in their way but I liked how persistent Asher was. There was sufficient action, intrigue and drama to keep it all interesting. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. It kept me on tenterhooks until the end. Asher is accused of embezzlement and Lani is hired to find the money. No one believes Asher is innocent. Lani and Asher had known each other before and things didn't end well. Lani tries to put her feelings aside to investigate properly and it works. She finds the true culprit but because of how others feel, he gets away. The only good things are that Asher is free and innocent and that he and Lani can finally have a life together.
Hooked on the Texas Cattleman’s Club series! I love how Lani, the strong female protagonist is determined from the start to follow the trail of missing money from the festival to Asher, her ex. Yet as Asher spends time with Lani, she discovers there is more to Asher than meets the eye. The playboy from her past who had had commitment issues wants nothing more than to commit, but can she trust Asher? I root for the two to discover the culprit behind the festival’s demise and their happily ever after!
This book is a second Chance romance between Asher Edmonds, who has been accused of embezzlement, and Lina Li, who is hired to find the money. Asher and Lina were a couple five years ago and are now reunited as they search for the true embezzler. The book has great characters and a plot with suspense, trust issues, intrigue, and sizzling romance.

This is the seventh book in the "Texas Cattleman’s Club: Heir Apparent" series. I so enjoyed every bit of it. Asher gets his story and finds his love. This story is about Lani, Asher, second chances and embezzlement. It is an interesting and intriguing story that is nicely developed and well written.
I always enjoy 2nd Chance love stories. This storyline was well written to keep the reader’s attention. It had just enough romance and mystery to enjoy on a Saturday afternoon.
