Martin Luther King, Jr. was one of the pivotal leaders of the American civil rights movement. King was a Baptist minister, one of the few leadership roles available to black men at the time. He became a civil rights activist early in his career. He led the Montgomery Bus Boycott (19551956) and helped found the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (1957), serving as its first president. His efforts led to the 1963 March on Washington, where King delivered his “I Have a Dream speech. Here he raised public consciousness of the civil rights movement and established himself as one of the greatest orators in U.S. history. In 1964, King became the youngest person to receive the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to end segregation and racial discrimination through civil disobedience and other non-violent means.

King was assassinated on April 4, 1968, in Memphis, Tennessee. He was posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Jimmy Carter in 1977. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day was established as a national holiday in the United States in 1986. In 2004, King was posthumously awarded a Congressional Gold Medal.

Beautiful speech, a monument of history indeed, but it is definitely not just an old relic of the past, but a clear reminder that we still need to fight for this dream.

This edition starts with a foreword by Amanda Gorman, followed by a reading of the speech narrated by Blair Underwood, and finally the audio of the actual speech by Martin Luther King Jr. I usually listen to audiobooks at 1.5x speed, but to increase the speed of this narration would have done a disservice to this important speech.

These short books are great. It is a different experience reading Dr. King's speeches, especially since most of the short videos presented from that day don't contain important elements of the speech's theme. I liked the afterword by Dexter Scott King much more than the forwards by his brother and sister, but my focus was on the speech itself, which of course was magnificent.

A wonderful version of this so famous speech, presented in both a new remastering as well as the original recording, complemented with a worthwhile preface and an afterword.

Highly recommend audiobook, something to come back to again and again to get the necessary piece of hope and inspiration in tough times.

“My poem may have been a solo performance, but I was just one voice in a chorus of people who continue to call back to Dr. King's surviving vision.

[Meinung]
“I have a dream, der wohl berühmteste Satz der Menschheit.

Dr. King's I Have a Dream speech isn't just one of the best delivered speeches in American history, it is also one of the best written*. Of course, the text is still best read while listening to audio of the actual speech :)

As for this particular edition, the manner in which lines and phrases appear on successive pages seems to line up pretty well with Dr. King's actual cadence. So to the extent to which this can actually be considered a "book," I'll say it does a good job.

*Perhaps even more impressively, it was also partially .

So refreshing and powerful!

Reading over the “I Have A Dream speech ignites a fire in me that says “continue to run on. “Don’t ever stop; pay day is coming after while. Inspiration thru time. Dr. King still speaks to us thru the change of time.🤗🙏🏾

Perhaps the best speech ever written. Everyone should read or listen to these amazing words, and try to live up to the ideals represented by Dr. King's message of hope, endurance and acceptance.
