Attack on Titan Omnibus 1

Rate this book
It's never been easier to attack Attack on Titan than with these new, giant-sized 3-in-1 omnibus editions! If you've been waiting for the final anime season to check out the do-or-die shonen adventure that defined a decade, now's your chance. These new books tuck almost 600 pages of manga behind a specially-embossed cover, all in a larger size than the regular version. Includes Vol. 1-3 of Attack on Titan. For eons, humans ruled the natural world. But a century ago, everything changed when the Titans appeared. Giant, grotesque parodies of the human form, these sexless monsters consumed all but a few thousand human beings, who took refuge behind giant walls. Today, the threat of the Titans is a distant memory, and a boy named Eren yearns to explore the world beyond the wall. But what began as a childish dream will become an all-too-real nightmare when a Titan finally knocks a hole in the wall, and humanity is once again on the brink of extinction¡

One hundred and five years ago humankind lost most of the planet to a giant-sized vaguely humanoid race called the Titans. The last human state of survivors lived for 100 years safely behind three massive concentric Walls. Five years a super-giant sized Colossal-Titan breached the first Wall destroying the lives of three friends. Today those three friends are trainees in the defence forces whose job it is to protect the masses from the Titans and maybe one day instigate humankinds first ever attack on Titan!

I don't usually share the premise of work in such detail, but I felt compelled, as the premise of a forever in jeopardy from the seemingly mindless but human-hungering Titans, human race possible reliant on a group of teenagers to save them feel like it would work well in this reality. The only, but string negative is the artwork, which was difficult to distinguish for me. The intricate back stories set in this dystopian reality where another huge threat is humankind of limited hope and desperation. So far, so good, but I can feel that there's a lot better to come, due to the measured pacing and holding back of key information. A Three Star, 7 out of 12 read for me.

¡°We don¡¯t have to go outside the world for our whole lives. We can eat, sleep and survive just fine here, but isn¡¯t that like being a caged animal?¡±

Attack on Titan takes place in a world where the human race is being driven to near extinction and cowers behind walls to protect them from the inhuman, deathly predators that are the Titans. And the struggle to fight and rise above incredible odds will resonate with many a reader easily.

In this near post-apocalyptic tale, we can find many difficult matters addressed and deep thoughts explored by our defiant band of heroes.

With great action as well as profound emotion, these early issues shape the potential of an incredibly interesting and nuanced story that can shape to be as epic as soul-filling in a fellswoop.

¡°I don¡¯t know what he is either but we have to give our lives for him with as much bravery as we can muster! Pitiful, isn¡¯t it? That this is the only thing we humans can do. We¡¯re probably going to die like insignificant worms, for something we have no guarantee will pay off. So, what will you do? This is the battle we can fight. This is the struggle we can undertake. [¡] I can¡¯t go along with that. I¡¯ll follow the plan. I think what you¡¯re saying is right. But while I struggle, I¡¯ll teach them how terrible human beings can be. Because I refuse to die a dog¡¯s death.¡±

From the beginning, we are introduced, slowly and quite cleverly, to a pretty significant cast of characters. All of them are more different than the last and bring so much personality and charisma to the story, even in their short interactions.

There is certainly enough diversity in the characters to suit anyone's tastes.

Funnily enough, I fell absolutely in love with a couple of secondary characters but find the main trio a little bit annoying, though not really frustrating.

Having so many personalities in such a complicated world already makes it feel real and raw. Which at the same time enriches the experience of the overall story and helps really take you in and transport you to the feelings and sensations of the moment.

¡°This is a cruel world. And yet, so beautiful.¡±

Don't let it deceive you, this is a brutal, cruel, raw, and gory world. Certainly not for the faint of stomach or heart.

Though certainly not a horror Isayama did not pull punches when depicting what living in a war-torn world, plagued by human-eating monsters would signify; and that is often not pretty.

So, yeah, some trigger warnings need to be taken into account before you start reading this fantastic series.

Yet, as savage as the world we are presented is, it is through the human interactions that we are witnesses to that we can see beauty and love and, therefore, combat the bleakness and gloom that would be too thick otherwise.

There is hope at the end of the tunnel. Is the most prevalent message.

¡°Fight!! Fight, damnit!! If you don¡¯t fight we¡¯re gonna die. If you win, we live. If you don¡¯t fight, we can¡¯t win.¡±

As it is always important to note with mangas/comics/graphic novels the art was... an interesting experience.

Though certainly not the best one I've ever seen there were some very beautiful and breathtaking pannels. And, often, when they weren't they provided a nice comic relief sequence that amused me to no end.

Simple and less-polished doesn't mean bad, necessarily, and we can see a prime example of it right here. Besides, the plot highly makes up for any shortcomings the art ever had.

¡°However, five years ago, that peace came to an end. The Colossus Titan destroyed the gate. And the titans, released from 100 years of hunger, laid waste to the human race again. The humans abandoned their outermost wall. Twenty percent of the population and a third of their domain was lost. The human race was forced to fall back behind the second wall. However, at the same time, humanity awakened.¡±

Though just the beginning, these first thirteen chapters made me fall obsessed and in love with this story already.

It is easy to feel how special it can become.

After all, if we went through so much in just the very beginning of it I can hardly imagine the kind of twists and turns we are going to get as the story progresses and develops.

Certainly, I will be making the journey to find out to the very end.

¡°Since the titans appeared humanity hasn¡¯t beaten them, not once. With them always advancing and humanity always retreating, we¡¯ve been stripped of all but a sliver of our territory! But when this operation succeeds it will be the first time we¡¯ve ever taken our land back! And at that moment for the first time, we¡¯ll triumph over the titans! Compared to what¡¯s been taken from humanity it may be a small thing. But it will mean we¡¯ve finally managed an attack on the titans.¡±

Oh, this brought all the feelings back.

It's absolutely amazing getting to revisit the story from this new angle.

I've missed reading mangas or comics this past couple of weeks and, well, I have always meant to read Attack on Titan, properly this time and not just the missing chapters.

Excitement does not cover how I feel. To get to see the missing scenes, further characterizations, and, well, just to expend more time with this story that I adore and these characters that stole my heart is everything for me right now.

I already have the tissues nearby because I'm sure to be a crying mess through it all.

I¡¯m just beginning my journey into manga but I¡¯ve got to admit. This lives up to the hype. It¡¯s bizzare, brutal, and beautiful. Can¡¯t wait to keep reading!

Been hearing about this for ages, particularly because, for some time (many moons ago), my elder was somewhat obsessed with it, and so (belatedly and for unclear reasons) I finally took the plunge.

I very much see the attraction of the head-scratching (OK, seeming non-sensical but troubling premise and) world-building, primary characters, and the, for lack of a better word, quest. At the same time, the text is relatively light (except where the author stops and explains with dense prose, which is helpful). As a general rule, my preferences for graphic novels and manga very much skew towards the more talky offerings. So, even if the drawing is surprisingly effective at communicating action and drama, for me, well, it's all about the words, vocabulary, prose, and not just the dialogue.

On a positive note, I'm glad I dove in with an omnibus, including 3 volumes (and 13 episodes). Frankly, if I hadn't have had the opportunity to cover so much ground ... if I'd just read a few individual issues, I probably would have abandoned it relatively early on.

I don't expect to run out and buy the next installment, but ... instead ... I'll do a little surfing to see whether readers thought the story got better (or at least more entertaining) over time. I'm guessing there's got to be more to it, given the scale of its popularity.

Kinda crazy to think of the interpretation that is required for the anime. Like there is a whole arc in the anime that doesn¡¯t even exist in the manga. Regardless though, it¡¯s a great read and I¡¯m looking forward to the rest of the series.

This book was so good and the only reason I found this book was from a friend although he told me to watch the show. I went to the library with my mom and my sister showed me where the book was.
I couldn't believe it I was so excited and couldn't wait to read it. There was some cuss words in the book and if you watched the show like I did you would know what it was gonna be in there. The books are just like the show so if you don't get a chance to watch the show it's ok you wont miss anything.

It is about a boy named Eren and Mikasa is not Eren's sister but later in the book there is a flash back and there you will see...

Armin and his friends are supper smart, Eren's dad Dr. Yeager he is a doctor and he goes to work and the only time you see him Eren's dad is a flash back. The book can get boring, but what book doesn't when you are learning the back story. I later got so into the book that tears where going down my face. It was so so sad, I will not give up the details haha you must read this story yourself. Make sure though that you have the second book on hand for this one leaves you wanting more...........

MI VOLT EZ A BESTIA? Hatalmas t?bb sz¨¢z oldalas k?tet, r¨¢ad¨¢sul olyan izgalmas, t?vig tudtam volna r¨¢gni a k?rm?m mik?zben olvastam.

Finally starting it after being told to by many people over many years. I remember watching some of the anime but never really getting into it, but after devouring the omnibus in one sitting, I want more. I already kind of know the end because of the discourse going on surrounding the last season right now, but so much in the middle remains a mystery to me and I can¡¯t wait to see on how the plot twists and setups in this issue affect things down the road.

Great story, great characters, intense action and a lot of tension. Despite the title of the manga, it isn't about the giant monsters eating everyone. It's about humans, about what we can and cannot do, and about desperate survival.

I'd flipped through the first book before discovering the anime and immediately put it back on the shelf; I was appalled at how amateurish the drawing was.

I've since seen the anime and know how thematically rich AoT is. I know that the characters are detailed, in multiple shades of grey. I know that the action will go even further, on the sometimes slippery slopes between good and evil, freedom and predestination...

But what a torment it is to know all this and to have to endure such visual ugliness. I sincerely hope that with each new volume the artist will develop a better mastery of his art, because at this stage my eyes are bleeding. And as the future themes haven't yet been tackled, I can't go beyond 3*, and only because I know that the story will eventually deserve a better rating.

Quite a wild ride of a manga. I love the concept. The last of humanity are trying to survive the assault of hungry giants with an appetite for human flesh. It's an interesting spin on the Kaiju genre. There are also some steampunk like elements like flying knights propelled through the air with jet packs and rapier like swords. The art is a bit rough in the first volumes of this omnibus but gets better near the end. Looking forward to omnibus 2.

Precisely because people generally say the anime is better in this case, due to it having benefited from the mangaka's input to improve upon the story, is why one should read the manga first.

It's a really good and engaging manga, don't get me wrong. It has a nice mix of existentialist reflection upon the definition and purpose of humanity, dreadful horror scenes, action combat, mystery, and some really good drawing.

I don't know why, but GoodReads deleted the fact I read this book, all my reading updates and theories on this book, my whole review, and basically all the evidence of me ever reading this book??? I realized this because it suddenly said my reading goal was a book lower than it should've originally been.

Anyways, the book was amazing and I'm pretty sure I gave it 4.25 stars.
