Philadelphia native, Kevyn Mines, pens his harrowing memoir chronicling his journey as a youth minister, gay adult film star, HIV advocate, and now author. Kevyn's confidence dwindled after becoming homeless, feeling abandoned and contracting HIV. The constant tug of war between his spiritual walk and his newfound career as a porn star often left him in conflict.
Despite enduring various life threatening experiences, Kevyn found resolve within himself and he is now ready to inspire others who are experiencing similar struggles.
If I could give this book 10 stars I would. Let me start by saying that the title and cover alone caught my attention, and the synopsis sucked me in. I even had several laughs during the read. This author shares his testimony of being both a pastor and porn star, and some of the many battles he’s had to face with his family and peers. I highly recommend this book to anybody who has made mistakes they don’t think they can come back from. This book will inspire anyone who’s ever hit rock bottom.
It is always interesting to read/hear/see someone else’s life and experience to then realize that at the end of the day we are all just people. And those we look up to - especially our parents - are just people too. Mr. Mines brings forward the understanding that secrets must be squashed out, lies must not stand, and we must be true to ourself if we ever hope to be truly happy. Your path may not be the path of least resistance, but rather the course that brings about the change that makes our existence one of joy and fulfillment.
As a porn star, Venom was iconic. Reading this autobiography reinforces that Kevyn Mines was also iconic as a regular guy from Philadelphia. Imjust wish he didnt have to go through some of the shit he had.
