Who Owns the Numbers?

Rate this book
This book is about the history of numbers for our young readers. Middle and high school students use our current number system daily in their classes as well as in their personal lives. But do they know the origin of our number system -- 0123456789?
There are numerous books about the origin of numbers. They are scholarly discourse, but they are also dense and complex. Young readers do not have time or interest to read such massive materials. This book does not claim to be a replacement of such scholarly books. Instead, it tries to put the importance of the discovery of numbers in a very readable and enjoyable form. It also gives our young readers a sense of the greatest discovery in human history.
The book describes the journey of how our number system originated in the East during antiquity and traveled through time to the West, and how this system evolved as it passed through different countries and ended up in its current form. The book gives credit to all inventors who participated in such a journey and designed the numbers that we use today.
