MF & MM Anthology 4 Stars ⭐️ for Apocalyptica by Yolanda Olson (MF)
I browsed this anthology but the only one I was truly interested in was Yolanda Olson’s and it did not disappoint. This author writes the most depraved crazy shit especially in anthologies and if I see her name linked to one I’m always going to read it. I didn’t expect this to be crazy though because this isn’t a dark romance anthology and I’ve found the twisted stories are not usually in these more generic ones. But she hoodwinked me because holy shit did this have a total WTF moment I wasn’t prepared for and it turned the whole story on its head and then in true YO fashion, it ended. She never follows up on her short anthology stories so I’m always left with my mouth gaping open yearning for more and it’s why I keep a lookout for them. She’s captivated me with her dark and twisted mind.
This is MF and honestly I’m shocked it’s allowed on Amazon because it’s a bro/sis story that takes place in a Walking Dead type environment. The only reason I feel like this wasn’t banned was because it’s hiding inside a non-assuming anthology but anyway it’s taboo and I devoured the 10 or so chapters it had. A few years ago had someone told me I’d be reading these kind of tropes and loving them I wouldn’t have believed it but if you’re like me and love the taboo I’d give this a try.
Also…I read some of the other stories in this and I chose not to review them because they weren’t for me but that doesn’t mean they were bad. I just don’t read a lot of MF romance now and the stories here just didn’t reel me. However, the MM one was terribly one dimensional and boring imo but it was about an anxiety ridden author finding love with his cover model if anyone is interested. I chose not to review that one though because I’ve been in a terrible slump and YO’s story was the first that has captured my attention in weeks and I chose to focus on the positives instead of putting out yet another jaded fucking review. 💗
*Review for Crossed Crimson Lines by Cora Kenborn * This is a prequel about Eden and Val story they’re a beloved couple from the Carrera Cartel series I absolutely love this world and I love this couple! The chemistry was absolute fire and their banter had me grinning from ear to ear this is a must read for fans of Kenborn and mafia romance lovers!
This is a review for Crossed Crimson Lines by Cora Kenborn.
CCL is a prequel novella about Eden and Val, two characters who Kenborn's readers know very well from Blurred Red Lines, her first mafia romance. If you've read the Carrrera Cartel series, you probably know the circumstances in which Eden and Val turn into lovers, but in this novella we find how what happened before the events of BRL. I like to go back to Caliente Cantina and revive the sizzling attraction between Eden and Val, and this novella was not only packed with that, but also with a lot of sexy moments! So, if you're looking for something to turn your day around, this is what you should be probably reading.
I've always liked Eden and Val. Eden, in particular, is a girl who comes from a poor family and lives with her abusive father. To earn her keep after tragedy stroke, she has to work in this indecent bar Caliente Cantina, where the clientele is very questionable. Eden is not just a character anyone can empathize with, she's also funny and has a pungent sense of humor. Since most of the characters are told through her POV, you can feel her struggle as she sees Val: tall, dark and dirty, watching her from afar like a hawk. She can't resist him, yet she knows that if she gives into temptation...
Val is also a deep character who is conflicted about the life he's supposed to lead as the son of a cartel boss, and the expectations that come with it. He has enemies, but he also has cravings, and in this novella we see how his resolve breaks when it comes to Eden, his "cereza". He has creative ways to pleasure her, and I'm sure she'll never forget him.
If you like mafia romances, don't miss on this one!
As a huge fan of Cora Kenborn, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this anthology to read Crossed Red Lines and it did NOT disappoint! We’ve all seen books with alternate endings but in a unique twist, Cora has provided us with an amazing alternate BEGINNING for power couple Val Carrera and Eden Lachey from Blurred Red Lines, book 1 of the Carrera Cartel series. In this short story, Val doesn’t resist his attraction to Eden, resulting in a scorching hot read that had me fanning myself and wondering how strong willed Eden would respond to his later offer. If you’ve read the original story, you’ll love revisiting these characters but if you’re new to Cora’s Carrera world, Crossed Red Lines is a perfect introduction that will have you binge reading the entire series!
Beyond the sheets is an anthology bringing together new to me and fave one-click authors. Crossed Crimson Lines by Cora Kenborn is a reimagined prequel to the Carrera Cartel collection. One of my all time favourite mafia couples is Eden and Val. As always, Val and Eden are explosive! Their chemistry is intense and their attraction is undeniable. Of course, Eden holds her own to the cartel boss and their banter is amazing! It was so great to get a new twist on a fave story that stoked my obsession with mafia romance. It was hot and nostalgic and I devoured this story, wanting so much more from the Carrera cartel. There are so many great authors in this anthology and it’s a perfect way to add to your list of one click authors!
I do love a good anthology, there's always some familiar and new to me authors to tease me with their stories. A few chapters is all I need to find some hidden little gems.
I've read one story so far and I'm excited to start the rest.
Crossed Crimson Lines - Cora Kenborn ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Now, I'm no stranger to The Carrera Cartel series it's one of my favourites. So being back with Val and Eden was as intense, exciting dangerous and intoxicating as ever. It reminded me why I love them so much.
One particular scene was🔥 in the words of Terrorvision - ' Tequila, it Makes Me Happy ' 🤣
I’m a lover of Anthologies because you get to meet new and favorite authors!
One story that stood out to me was Crossed Crimson Lines by Cora Kenborn. Wow! I’m a lover of the Carrera Cartel series and this brought back some vivid memories and made new ones! Val and Eden are just as volatile, just as smoking hot and just as perfect as ever. For only a few chapters it had me falling in love with them all over again!!! You could feel the intenseness of their feelings come right off the pages! Such incredible characters! Absolute perfection!!!
Revenge 2 stars - Why does no one know about Jordan? They knew Derek had been married to Jordan’s mother. The insta-love between him and Fonda just didn’t do it for me as there was no clue about what caused mutual attraction. Sex was meh. No details about how Jordan went about framing his half brothers and sister for Derek’s murder. Didn’t like Lacey at all, although I see that she and Rock are apparently featured in a different book.
Crossed Crimson Lines 3 stars - This is apparently a “what if to the already published story about Val and Eden. Not having read Blurred Red Lines I can’t say whether this version is better or not. Unless I missed it, there’s no explanation as to why Val is so enraptured with Eden. She appears to be a slave to her hormones and agrees to his proposition more for this reason than any interest in getting her father out of trouble. Their “affair seems more like rape than romance.
Guided Corruption 2 stars - Some mistakes: shutter should be shudder. daft experience should be deft. his eyes baring down on me should be bearing. The only character I liked was Maverick. I found Elijah Giovanni to be a pretentious prick who got off on bullying and belittling Kody. It seemed she picked him up at the bar to use as inspiration for the story she was writing. I wasn’t enamored with Elijah’s creepy confession telling her she reminded him of his late wife. He came across as a pervert.
How Fireflies Dance 3 1/2 stars - reign in my emotions should be rein. There was enough character development in this novella that I would like to read more but none of the author’s listed books seem to be about these two. Kane appears to be a member of an Irish mafia and most of her books are about motorcycle gangs/clubs.
Apocalyptica 2 stars - Creepy post-apocalypse tale of a brother and sister who apparently are the only humans left on earth. There are some deformed creatures that used to be human whom they battle and interact with. I felt the ending was unresolved as I wasn’t sure whether Malus had been infected or what Clovis was going to do next.
Stud for Hire 3 1/2 stars - Adrian is a paid male escort. He encounters Miranda at an event when she spills her drink on him. They later are reacquainted at a bar where he has stopped for a drink after refusing a customer’s request for his services. Something about Miranda makes him want to change his ways so he meets with his boss to advise her of this decision. Between turning down a job and now announcing his retirement from her stable, she is not pleased.
Off Guard 3 stars - Cute story about a couple of friends with benefits whose relationship deepens despite her intentions. Dom moves to Nashville from Seattle and unbeknownst to him, starts working for Sara's brother. An embarrassing scene occurs when Sara visits Nashville and her brother finds them in flagrante delicto in her hotel room. It all works out in the end.
Paradise Plus One 3 1/2 stars - I’m going to make an observation here that not only applies to this story but many, many others. Having the guy pull out at the last minute does not guarantee that the woman won’t get pregnant. Aren’t they teaching basic safe sex in health classes nowadays? It only takes one drop, folks, and pre-cum can sometimes include those sneaky little swimmers. There was no discussion of STD precautions either. So, a woman is dumped by her escort to a friend’s wedding and looks for a replacement via Bumble. The man who responds is beyond perfect and will soon be moving to where she lives. HEA is practically guaranteed.
Alpha Daddy 4 stars - Daddy Doms and Littles: Another learning experience. I had to google this as the terms were new to me. According to an article the Daddy Doms act as caregivers or parents. The submissive will regress in age and state of mind, and will play as a younger child. The most common age regression range is in between 6-12 yrs old. Ryan and Bryanna haven’t started role playing in this story but have definitely agreed to it. This will be Bryanna’s first time being a Little but it sounds like Ryan is pretty experienced as a Daddy. (Trying not to be judgmental, but ick)
Serenade of Delirium 4 stars - Gabby has checked herself into rehab. Nate is the lead singer of a famous rock band who is also a patient. After a rocky start an attraction blazes to life between them that continues after their release. Gabby had written a poem that Nate turns into a song and plays at the band’s comeback tour.
Crashing into Him 2 1/2 stars - Lola is rushing through the airport terminal to catch a plane to Hawaii. She crashes into Garrett and misses her flight. It turns out he is a famous hockey player with a private jet headed to Hawaii so he gives her a lift. Insta-attraction and they join the mile high club. Garrett invites her to stay with him and his friends on Maui. They have a great time and agree to continue the relationship after returning home. It seemed as if Garrett had decided he wanted to settle down and Lola just happened to be in the right place at the right time.
Skin Deep 4 1/2 stars - Cannon witnesses a hit and run accident and remains with the passenger until medics arrive. Amelia’s husband was killed in the accident which she discovers after awakening from a coma. She also finds out she’s pregnant. She remains in Cannon’s thoughts and one day she appears where he works to thank him for his assistance at the accident scene. Her pregnancy triggers an undisclosed memory for Cannon.
The Cover Model 2 stars - Two grown men acting like insecure teenagers. Luke/LJ gets bent out of shape when he finds that Colton, a model, has a photographer in their shared room and is doing a shoot. Despite Connor dismissing the photographer and kissing LJ, he flees to the hotel bar where he proceeds to drown his sorrows. (Connor has a lame excuse that the hotel only had a room with one bed available for them. Um, LJ is one of the featured authors for the book signing. I’m pretty sure the hotel would have reserved a room for him before everything else was taken) Anyway, they kiss and make up the next day. A fan named Rebecca insists that they need to meet her gay friends. Why? If they had been a heterosexual couple would she have felt compelled to introduce them to her hetero friends? Just weird. Then they later exchange phone numbers with her gay friends. Again, why? Are they planning on swapping partners or something? Story was just too contrived for my taste.
A Latte Billionaire 4 1/2 stars - I enjoyed the character development and that the mystery surrounding Indie was revealed. Her bestie Jess was a hoot. I appreciate that the story wrapped up without a cliff hanger.
Ladies Night 3 stars - Dakota is a nurse coming off six days of 12 hour shifts. She falls asleep at home but then is awakened by loud music. It’s curious that she’s never had this problem with her neighbor before, but whatever. She knocks on his door and discovers four male strippers practicing their routine. Eli, one of the men, finds her attractive and slips a couple of VIP passes under her door. She and her friend go to the club that night. Dakota and Eli flirt and she invites him to her place after the show is over. The rest is history.
Spilled Milk and Dream Vows 5 stars - Ginny recounts the various loves of her life and how they have the common denominator of spilled milk. Although the “About the Author blurb indicates she doesn’t always write an HEA, this story definitely has one.
I Can’t Stop 2 1/2 stars - Miranda is a famous artist. Jade is a runway model. They meet at a women’s rights rally in D.C. and were immediately attracted to one another. Miranda lives in San Francisco and Jade works out of New York so the logistics of them seeing each other takes a bit of maneuvering. Miranda shows up at a show Jade is working where they reunite and fly back to San Francisco together. Miranda reveals a painting of Jade that she calls her masterpiece and will be featured at her gallery. Story seemed a bit cut and dried to me.
The Secrets of Your Skin 2 1/2 stars - Josh is working as a masseuse at a tropical island resort. One of his clients turns out to be a woman he’d had a hot and heavy night with in the past. Neither London nor her baby are Phayed but they could be turned, I’m not quite sure how. Anyway, one of London’s friends helps them to escape on his giant yacht with explicit instructions for Josh to stay aboard as much as possible and to avoid other Phayed.
Finding Jackson 2 stars - Jackson is a highly skilled skateboarder. Two years earlier he crashed, receiving a head injury and leaving large gaps in his long term memory. He is haunted by the memory of an unidentified girl that no one else recalls. Oakley is the girl and has since relocated to New York. She feels drawn to Jackson so returns to Houston on vacation to seek him out. Once again he crashes after catching a glimpse of her. This time there is no serious injury and he recovers most of his memories. They move to New York. He wants to return to Houston but she wants to stay in New York so who knows how this affair will end.
Cupid’s Corner 2 stars - "I sit down in the hot water and try to relax. More dialog, then, "I light the candles around my tub and then submerge myself into the hot water. So which is it? Are you already in the tub before lighting candles or what? Then, ...walking out of my en suite bathroom into my bathroom... Pretty sure she means walking into bedroom.
Joey and her friend Tiffany own a bakery. Joey gets into a snit when her brother and his friend buy the building next door which she had hoped to expand into. She is holding a seven year grudge against his friend since said friend took her virginity and disappeared into the night. He feels terrible about this and despite the fact that they see each other frequently, he’s never managed to apologize in all that time. They connect at a masked ball (why she didn’t recognize his voice is beyond me) and clear up all the misunderstandings. They have sex later but it reminded me of bad porn. Yes, the actors are obviously committing the act and saying dirty things but you can tell there's absolutely no passion involved.
Was so excited to jump back into Eden and val that when this hit my kindle I dropped what I was currently reading and dived straight into this. As always it did not disappoint full of spice and hot scene 🌶️🌶️🌶 All I have to say is that tequila scene 🥵🌶️🌶️ Definitely made me want to reread the whole series again. Looking forward to reading the other short stories in this book I’ll update this review when I’ve got round to it Amazing writing Cora as always
I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review.
This is an anthology and I am sure there are probably a lot of great stories in it. But I want to focus on Crossed Crimson Lines by Cora Kenborne. If you are familiar with her books then chances are high that you have read the Carrera Cartel books. If you haven't you are missing an amazing series. Crossed Crimson Lines is the prequel to that series. It was so great to be back in the Carrera world and I loved every second of this story. This story is about Eden and Val. If you know them then you know you're in for a great story. Blurred Red Lines is the book in her series and that also is the story of these two getting together. But now we are going backwards and getting to see the event that happened before Blurred Red Lines. Eden is a girl who comes from a dirt poor and her father is so abusive. When tragedy strikes she has to take a job in a horrible bare Caliente Cantina where she is around some shady people. Val is a man who is very conflicted by the life he is supposed to live and being the son of a cartel boss is never easy. So much is expected of him and he is racking up the enemies. He too is a man who has cravings and to say Eden is something he will grow to crave is an understatement. This book is so good. I didn't quit reading it once I picked it up and I was really sad when the time had come to close the book and I see a Carrera Cartel in my future as you can't stop thinking about this little jewel of a story.
To be back in this world. Perfection. Cora could honestly write a recipe for English muffins and I would read it and then make the muffins, she’s just that good.
Crossed Crimson Lines takes us back to the amazing Carerra Cartel with the first couple you meet in Blurred Red Lines, Val and Eden. You don’t necessarily need to read the other books before, but I’d you want context and to know more I suggest you read them after- also because the series is amazing and highly recommended.
Our two characters are meant to be, the back and forth we get in the first chapter is steamy and amusing. Eden’s internal thoughts are hilarious, the characters are written with such detail- in such a short story- that you’re able to get the whole picture of them and what happens. Throughout the book we see the chemistry (hello second chapter) these characters have and it’s off the pages.
“Let go Cereza. Embrace your darkness.
Without spoilers, this story is one you don’t want to miss. Go in excited and prepare to have your mind blown with how much you missed this world and how happy you are to be back in it. After reading it I immediately wanted to reread the rest of the series.
**Reviewing Crossed Crimson Lines by Cora Kenborn** 5+ stars! An alternate beginning....the same f🔥re!
Crossed Crimson Lines is an episode that could've been the very beginning of Valentin Carrera and Eden Lachey's journey, of 'what ifs' and 'what nots'. Faithful to her characters' intricacies, Cora Kenborn presents a snipet of first and second encounters, visceral actions, reactions and an interest that bugs its holder, shows of power and control, false bravados and defiance, a deal with the devil at last.....
Val and Eden didn't disappoint! Very ferocious in their exchanges, under pressure, with agendas to run and pasts weighting down, their conflict is palpable, so is their attraction, desire and consumation.
Where is all that coming from? Neither of them knows, but they want to. We, after this...🔥🔥🔥...will be running for a reread and those who aren't familiar with Cora's Carrera World will want to do it too! Once more, superb!
An amazing group of authors in this collection of novellas. And what’s also awesome is it’s a limited-edition anthology and all of the proceeds will go to Braach Shepherds 4 Veterans!
Crossed Crimson Lines by Cora Kenborn I loved this short, not lacking for anything novella. It’s sexy and delicious dirty. With the smell of danger in the air. Valentin Carrera is the heir apparent of the Carrera Cartel. His aura is one of dark and danger with sexy bundled into the captivating mix. Eden is tough and brave with beauty to boot. She’s loyal to her family. Even when she shouldn’t be. This couple is absolutely explosive together. They’re hot and sizzling in the sheets and beyond. Val just may have met his match with Cereza!
Fonda made the worst mistake in her life by accepting a dinner invitation from Derek Wolfe. She had no idea he was a sadistic inhumane man. There was no escape from his clutches once she found out how cruel he was. He threatened her mother's life if she tried to leave him.
Jordan, Derek's son was enamoured with Fonda the moment he saw her. He vowed to escape his father's grasp and plan his revenge against him. Revenge is a quick read but packs a punch with action and steam. Anyone who has read the Wolfes of Manhattan will particularly enjoy this short story.
I loved Crossed Crimson Lines by Cora Kenborn. I love getting alternate versions of stories that I love. Seeing a "what if" version of Val and Eden's story was fun. It was a spicy, what else do you expect from Val and Eden, and sweet at the same time.
Another story that stood out to me was Apocalyptic by Yolanda Olson. In true Olson style it was an atypical type of tale with a surprise ending. I have to admit that I didn't see it coming, Olson is one to always keep readers guessing.
The rest of the book was interesting as well, with some stories that were good and some just okay. All in all I'd say it's a pretty solid anthology.
This anthology has it all. From the amazing group of authors to the fantastic collection of stories, this is a must grab anthology. It will suck you in and keep you reading. I have been jumping around reading the stories and I had to stop to point out one from a favorite author of mine. Crossed Crimson Lines by Cora Kenborn. I have been a fan of the Carrera Cartel series from this author, and this little treat did not disappoint. It was filled with the fabulous steam and tension only Kenborn can write. This story is only one reason to grab this anthology.
I read Crossed Crimson Lines from this anthology, and it was a short and spicy read. The author’s Carrera trilogy is one of my favorites, so it’s nice to read this little short story that gives you a look into one of the main couple’s lives, Eden and Val, before their story started in the trilogy. Eden is a bartender trying to get through life even though her father doesn’t make it easy, and Valentin Carrera is a criminal boss intent on having her. They meet in a bar and it’s definitely lust at first sight for Val. The rest of the trilogy will give you their story!
I am reviewing the book, Crossed Crimson Lines by Cora Kenborn…I have loved Valentin Carrera and Eden Lachey since this author’s book, Blurred Red Lines…and I loved reading Crossed Crimson Lines because I loved reading more about Val and Eden…I wouldn’t call this novella a prequel…but it offered a different option as to how Val and Eden first got together…It had a whole Sliding Doors (1998 movie reference ) vibe to it for me…I highly recommend this book..and I highly recommend Cora Kenborn’s Carrera Cartel Collection..💜🌼
I originally bought this anthology because one of my favorite authors Cora Kenborn is in it but I've read some great new to me authors who I will be checking out in the future. Crossed Crimson Lines by Cora Kenborn is an alternate version of Val and Eden's meet from before Blurred Red Lines Bk1 of the Carrera Cartel series and what can I say. I f-in loved it! From the first word to the last I devoured their delicious story reading nonstop. Great writing and well developed characters made this a 5-star read for me and getting to read all the other amazing authors was the cherry on top.
I picked up this anthology for one story Crossed Crimson Lines by Cora Kenborn. I loved Val and Eden..their dynamic is so freaking hot and explosive! I was not ready to leave their world when finished, so I dove into Red Blurred Lines! You definitely want to give this a read! Will update review as I read the other stories Off Guard by Chelle Sloan I love The Nashville Fury books and getting Sara and Dominick’s story was just a great addition to this series! Loved their story to their HEA
Have a fire extinguisher on hand because this story is beyond en fuego! This alternate version of the main characters from the original story, Blurred Red Lines, is brilliant and masterful and even more intense. You immediately get swept up into the drama and the tension is delicious. We definitely need a full novel following this newer plot line!
This Anthology book was great. I love reading new authors and this collection has some great ones.
Specifically Crossed Crimson Lines by Corn Kenborn was amazing!!! Val & Eden are explosive. This story had everything you want in a novella. It was hot, dirty, and tons of chemistry for Val & Eden. I loved this what if story. I love the Carrera Cartel series I just can’t get enough. Highly recommend this series.
This book is awesome. Such Great Stories. Crossed Crimson Lines with Val And Eden was wonderful. Cora Did not disappoint. These Characters are no stranger to me as I have read their story so it was nice to read this one. Very hot and spicy. The chemistry is on fire. You will want to read their series. Grab you copy of this book with lots of authors and hot stories. As for Val and Eden they will leave you wanting more, you may even have a new book boyfriend :)
This review is for Crossed Crimson Lines by Cora Kenborn. What if...... THAT is what we learn in this what if prequel to Carrera Cartel series. We catch a glimpse of Val and Eden if they would have hooked up under different circumstances and Cora Kenborn does NOT disappoint with the saucy scenes. To be taken back to when it all began brought up so many memories of these characters, I absolutely LOVED IT.
Val never takes no for and answer and that goes for Eden also when he wants something he always gets it no matter what he has to do or who he has to kill.
Eden is not looking to start something with anyone no matter how much she wants Val even for one night she knows that will be nothing but trouble and she has enough drama from her family alone but Val always gets what he wants
My review is for Crossed Crimson Lines by Cora Kenborn.
I love the fact that this author chose to go back to a series that is already written and add a prequel for her readers. I think most readers avoid prequels because it leaves them waiting for books that aren't yet released. This was a fabulous and smexy glimpse into Val and Eden's story. Readers can enjoy this and then dive straight into the Carrera Cartel!
Wow - so many exciting short stories by such talented authors like Helen Hardt, Shannon Youngblood, Kyra Fox, William Joseph, Linney Lawless & Alandra Knight amongst others! And it’s all for charity! Several stories that got me interested in wanting to reading other stories by these amazing authors. I’ve added even more to my TBR now. Such s great book for such a great cause. I’m glad I could contribute by buying this book. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Crossed Crimson Lines by Cora Kenborn. Val and Eden have that chemistry that sets your body on fire. These two are explosive, and I loved their banter. This is the prequel to Blurred Red Lines, so reading their back story had me all giddy. If you love a good Mafia romance where both heroines go after what they want and get it, this prequel is for you. I loved the original Carrera Cartel trilogy, and this prequel was superb. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Yall this book is such a phenomenal read!! All of the authors in this Anthology are amazing!! Crossed Crimson Lines by Cora Kenborn is an awesome read. I LOVED reading the what if about Val and Eden!! Val and Eden are my OG favorite couple and I loved seeing them again!
I love reading anthologies because I get to meet new authors and this anthology didn't disappoint. There was one story I was really looking forward to and that was crimson red lines by cora kenborn and as per usual cora you definitely didn't disappoint. I loved hearing from Val and Eden again this story was so HOT I couldn't put it down.
