A Pumpkin and a Patch

Rate this book
Every person has that one thing they’re known for, and it doesn’t matter what you do, that one thing—whether good or bad—follows you around like a bloodhound for the rest of your life. For me it’s a story I wrote when I was fifteen. Forever more I will be known as the Reece the Rogue Pirate girl, instead of Josie Peterson. Why couldn’t I be known for all the cute children’s stories I’ve written about my family’s pumpkin patch?

Tragically, the torrid story I wrote as a teen was based on a real person, Reece Cavanaugh. And guess what? He grew up to be a pirate—okay, lawyer. Same thing. To make matters worse, the man is representing my ex-fiancé who wants to steal my treasure, aka engagement ring. If that wasn’t the icing on the cake, Reece has an adorable daughter who happens to be my new student. That’s right, I must now have actual conversations with him after avoiding him for half my life, even by hiding behind banana displays when needed. But the more I get to know Reece—the real version, not the imaginary one who ravishes me on sandy beaches—I can’t help but wish we could roll around in the sand together. There’s a problem though, the school I work for frowns upon relationships between parents and teachers. And it’s pumpkin season, which means all my free time is spent on the family farm. But when he kisses me, I can’t help wanting to break all the rules and get tangled up in the barn. The burning question is, am I brave enough to make my story a reality or will it be another bad ending?

This story was so much more than I expected. It's full of the fall vibes I was looking for, and the characters are likable. What surprised me is that it's also a story about overcoming childhood bullying.

5+ Stars!

Y'all! Can I just tell you how much I loved this book?! Once I started it, I had the hardest time putting it down! And once I finished it, I wanted to read it all over again! Talk about all the heart eyes and dreamy sighs... I. Just. Can't. Even. Right. Now! 😍

Josie and Reece are perfection! Oh how I adored these two! I loved watching their relationship grow from friendship into love. Their journey is absolutely beautiful! I couldn't help but root for these two from the very beginning. The way Reece was with Josie had me falling head over heels in love with him. She desperately needed him in her life to help her face and conquer her fears, to stand by her side and cheer her on. He left no doubt in her mind that he would be by her side always. The feels are most definitely real in this one and I loved every single minute of it.

And can we take a minute to talk about little Andi? Y'all. She almost stole the show! I fell in love with her from the first moment she was introduced. I mean, how could you not fall in love with that adorable little girl?! She was absolutely precious! I loved that she needed Josie just as much as Josie needed her. Their relationship was seriously so sweet!

Y'all. My words aren't doing this book justice. It is seriously AMAZING! I couldn't devour it fast enough and I never wanted it to end! Trust me when I tell you that this book is a MUST READ! It's one that I know I'll be reading over and over again! Ms. Peel never ceases to amaze me with her talent! I cannot wait to see what she has in store for us next!

As for my casting, y'all. These two were playing hide-and-seek. It took me forever to find them! But I am totally in love! What do you think?!

I'm in love!!! This book is darling! I couldn't get enough of Josie and Reece! I laughed out loud so many times! I'm sure my family kept looking at me like I was crazy. But, honestly, I couldn't help it! It was hysterical. I've read and listened to this book and loved both ways! Stefanie Kay is a favorite narrator of mine and she has brought this story to life. I loved how she portrayed Josie and Reece. Read it or listen, either way is awesome!!!!!!!

The whole cast of characters were wonderful. Josie's family were a little crazy at times. Mostly just "the sisters." Who are the sisters? Josie's mom and aunt. Poor Josie. She wrote her dreams into a story about Reece the rogue pirate and her brother kind of shared it with everyone. *jaw drops open* I would have been beyond mortified y'all!!! I had my fair share of embarrassing moments in high school, but Josie's torrid story being circulated around not only the school, but the whole community, definitely takes the cake! Poor girl! She does some evasive maneuvering to avoid Reece. Oh heavens, super funny! Definitely one of those laugh out loud moments I was telling you about!

I got sidetracked...back to the characters. Josie's cousin Jenna is her best friend and has had her back for years! I loved their relationship. Then we have the best brother ever...yep the one who leaked the story, or rather handed it out like candy, Oliver. I'll let you read the story and have some laughs and develop your own thoughts and feelings towards him. Kitty, wife to said story spreader (love her spunk). Friends at the school Josie teaches at-there are so many great moments around the school, the secretary and the principal especially. Hahaha! Then we have the ever roguish Pirate, Reece, and his entourage. There are several more wonderful characters, some we've seen in previous books. Oh I loved all the dynamics created by these different characters.

The whole pumpkin patch stuff was just adorable! I loved Josie's roll in her family's farm. She had me hoping that Josie would follow through with one of her dreams. I'll let you read to discover for yourself. Let me just say she's darling! Between that and her being a teacher and interacting with the little kids, my heart endeared to her even more! I just love her goodness. So much! And her goodness has me hurting for the pain and ache that she experiences. I loved how the author addressed Josie needing to heal and discover who she is, not who she hides as due to the pain of the backlash from her brother's story spreading. Josie is strong and wonderful and smart and I loved watching her heal. Bullying is real. It has immense consequences. And can last for a long time. Please be kind. Don't allow bullying to happen. Don't shame people. Nobody needs to be treated that way!

The chemistry between these two is off the charts! *Happy sigh* I couldn't help but know that something very humorous was going to happen every time that Josie sees Reece, or he shows up without her knowing. Hahahaha!!!! Y'all, I'm giggling just thinking about these awesome moments.

I just want to gobble this one up again! It's yummy, charming, full of heart, swoony, giggle inducing, sigh worthy and oh so unputdownable! You won't want to set it down once you start. I promise! I only did because I was sick and my body begged for sleep. If I wasn't trying to get better, you better believe that I would have stayed awake for hours upon hours to devour it all right away!!!

All the hearts and stars for this one! Jennifer Peel has done it again! She's pulled me in and wrapped my heart up with these two pirates! And I'm really hoping that she might just give us Reece the rogue Pirate's story as a bonus. *If I say pretty please with a cherry on top does that help?*

Content: The main characters kiss and make out several times throughout the book. There is nothing more than some steamy kisses. There are some innuendos throughout the book mostly in reference to Josie's story but we don't see anything in detail. It isn't squeaky clean, but I would consider it a PG-13 clean. No sex. A couple swear words. No fighting.

I received a copy from the author. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.

Happy Reading!!!

I had really high hopes for this fall-themed romance, but unfortunately it was not for me.

In high school Josie Peterson wrote a scandalous pirate romance featuring the handsome boy with the eye patch, Reese Cavanaugh. And you can imagine how mortifying it would be to have it leaked by her brother. Now an adult and actively avoiding Reece for years, Josie is forced to face her embarrassment when his daughter becomes a student in her classroom.

Reece was incredibly sweet. Honest and straightforward, I loved how unapologetic he was about his attraction towards Josie. This charming single dad was definitely my favourite aspect to the story! The kisses were great too.

But the conflict surrounding the pirate story was quite silly. It was odd having Josie, her family, and even the town locals dwell on something so juvenile for fifteen years. It was an embarrassing moment, yes, but Josie constantly referring to herself as "pirate girl" was really repetitive. I love a lighthearted romance, but I had a hard time taking this one seriously.

Move over pumpkin spice, there's a new flavor in town and his name is Reece Cavanaugh. Get a fan ladies because he's coming in hot and determined. And HOT. 🔥

Josie is one lucky girl. Here's my one line to her: Resistance is futile.
Seriously, she tries to run and avoid at first. Then she tries to hide. Then she is angry. Then she is in denial. Then she sets boundaries that shrink with every encounter. Like I said, resistance is futile. That's because Reece is really that charming, that attentive, that considerate, that determined and that hot. He doesn't try to hide the fact that he is one hundred percent into Josi. He's full on and I absolutely LOVED him.

I think I've reread the first kissing scene, well, I won't give a number. Let's just say a few times. hee hee.

Other things I loved?
Reece the dad.
Reece the rogue pirate.
Reece the room parent.
Reece the lawyer.

If you are looking for some romantic entertainment, this is your book. The tension and build up is great, the kissing is fantastic. You will fall in love with Josie, Reece and the pumpkin farm. It's a feel good kind of book that will have you smiling the whole way through. And then later too, when you think back on it.

Content: kissing. Mild innuendo.

Cute, fun read for the fall season. The characters are likable: Josie is funny and Reece is very romantic. If you like Hallmark movies, I think you’ll enjoy this book. My one tiny complaint is the repetition....so 3.5 stars rounded up.

I’ve never read a companion story told by 2 different authors before. If you didn’t know this book and Pumpkin Spice and not so Nice by Becky Monson are companions. I’d recommending reading this one first.

Since I read them out of order, I knew somethings that would transpire but not enough to spoil this story or ruin the fun. In fact, the 2 stories don’t really meet up until about half way through the book. In this story we follow Josie Peterson (Jenna’s cousin) as she teaches during the week and works on her family’s pumpkin farm on the weekends. When Josie was in high school, she wrote a steamy story about a pirate and she based that character on a real person, another student at her school who she had a crush on, Reece Cavanaugh. And unfortunately for her one day her brother found the story, read it over the school PA system, and handed out copies to all the students. Josie became known as Reece the Rogue Pirate Girl.

As an adult she again has to face Reece when he represents her ex-finance, and then his daughter becomes the new student in her class. She’s done a good job of avoiding him, but now she has no choice but to face her insecurities about her past and find out if she’s brave enough to find a happy ending. I’d like to say I enjoyed this story as much as its companion but Josie really got on my nerves. She’s one of those characters who have a really annoying catch phrase and it definitely stood out. I also had a hard time believing she was that traumatized about the story leaking, but everyone handles things differently so just know my rating is not based on that. From the beginning Reece made it very clear that he wanted to be friendly with Josie but she kept holding back because of her contractual obligations at her school. But she liked him, she felt things for him and his daughter, and it was clear that they liked her too, so it felt like it was trying to be a slow burn until Andi, Reece’s daughter, was no longer her student.

There are definitely some funny moments and heartfelt moments, plus it’s a clean romance just keep in mind because of her pirate stories steamy things are definitely alluded to, a lot. In the end I am happy I read both books, but I definitely preferred Pumpkin Spice and Not So Nice a bit more.

I told myself not to say this but I wish I had read this before Pumpkin Spice and Not So Nice...
It’s just that the Josie we got in that book felt confident, more annoyed by the ‘Pirate thing but in this one, she was so different.
(Not to mention this story begins way sooner than Jenna’s.)

I don’t want to get too in depth about the main theme of this book as it can be a sensitive topic for others. And every experience and subsequent reaction is different.
In saying that, I felt Josie focused a little too much on the story she hated. No one brought it up more than her, in her own mind.

There were moments I felt total empathy with her trauma but overall, I felt her inner voice was a tad conflicting and her journey to get to a more self confident state took a little too long. In a book that was essentially a fall romance story.

I quite liked Reece in the fact that he had some really great one liners and that he supported Josie’s healing journey. There were just some moments where, I felt, he pushed a little too hard.

I loved the moment between Josie and Jenna where the cousin encouraged rather than pushed Josie through a healing exercise.

Honestly, the first 60-70% of the book felt a little too repetitive. I would not have finished this as quickly as I had if not for a personal reading goal (that I didn’t even accomplish 😭).

Something I did appreciate (that I felt was lacking in Pumpkin Spice) was that there were more mentions of Halloween.

Side note: There’s a couple of characters from the author’s previous books and while I appreciate you want to build a shared universe or show your loyal readers what your previous characters are getting up to now, I could tell they were Easter Eggs from the very first sentence and so it felt a little forced to me. I feel like things like that need to be a more subtle.

This was a fun, closed door, small-town, single dad/teacher forbidden romance. I really liked that Josie, the FMC was a secret wannabe romance writer who wrote a steamy fanfic story in high school that has haunted her ever since. When Reece, the inspiration for her story returns to town with his young daughter, the two can't resist the instant chemistry. There's some great disability rep in this book too, as Reece lost an eye in a car accident as a child. Perfect for fans of Sarah Adams, The player next door by KA Tucker or Compared by Kortney Keisel and good on audio too.

Oh, my hearts and stars! This book is absolutely adorable in every way. The fall vibe with the pumpkin farm was perfect! The plot is delightful, the characters are charming, and the romance is super swoony!

Josie's worst nightmare? Having a conversation with her old high school crush that starred in a torrid love story Josie wrote in high school.

At least she thought it was.

Turns out that having his daughter (he's a single father) assigned to Josie's class is even worse because, despite her best efforts, she can't avoid Reese anymore. And pretty soon finds she doesn't want to.

Josie tries to run and hide at first but you can't blame her for falling because seriously, Reese Cavanaugh, aka the rogue pirate, is pretty irresistible! The way he supports her and sees her and helps her to own who she is? That, my friends, is what dreams are made of. Josie's journey was empowering and inspiring.

And can we just talk about the chemistry between Reese and Josie? The page practically lit on fire every time they were together. They had some oh-so-sizzling kisses (the tractor ride!!) but things were always on the sweet side of things.

I seriously am in love with this book! So many dreamy sighs and laugh-out-loud moments. As soon as I finished I just wanted to pick it up again and start over!

So grab your pumpkin spice and a cozy blanket and settle down for this crazy adorable romance! This is one you absolutely do not want to miss!

I received a complimentary copy of the book but a positive review was not required.

CW: swoony kissing but nothing past. There is some innuendo but mostly related to Josie's story and none of it is direct. A couple of mild swears.

A wobbly start but fairly entertaining

I always enjoy Jennifer Peel's books, but they're not all equal. I've taken to categorizing them. I consider this one somewhere between The Holiday Ex-Filers & Facial Recognition. It's mostly sweet & funny, but a little redundant & even cringe at times. In case that doesn't sound enthusiastic enough, let me just say that I do like it enough that I'll be buying the audio, & I only buy those when I know I'll be listening to it more than once!

I was a little squirmy at the beginning, as Josie was kind of frustrating, & I was wondering, "What about her (jerk) of a brother in all that cruel mess he created?!" We begin to get answers, but they're not esp satisfying; however, at 44% in she finally calls out some of her family members, & the story begins to shift for the better.

I love Reece's story. He was a kind of victim, too, but he decided to reject that mantle - which puts him in a perfect position to encourage Josie to move out of hers as well. Stories where the hero & heroine help each other find healing & grow are always favorites with me!

*Romance level: passionate kisses, dialogue's a little heavy on the spice, but nothing graphic

Cute! I was in the mood for a Halloween/Fall story that also had a fun romcom type feel and I immediately thought of this book. I enjoyed the fun fall setting and the charming pumpkin patch that Josie's family has. It is totally a place I would love to take my kids. Josie and Reece had fun chemistry; I liked that Reece wouldn't let Josie push him away. When Josie was in high school she wrote a steamy romance about her school crush Reece. Her brother thought it would be funny to read the story to the entire school. Which kicked off years of Josie being made fun of. It was a fun plot idea, and I liked to see how Reece handled the whole thing. Even though it had happened in their past, it plays a big part in the story.

Overall, a fun pleasant read for an autumn afternoon.

Content Rated PG+
Clean romance - mild innuendo, descriptive kissing, mild language, no violence, brief mentions of substance abuse.

I’m so impressed with these two author’s ability to write romance books that I haven’t read before.

This book follows a girl named Josie who wrote a very steamy pirate themed romance book in high school about Reece, guy she went to school with. But when her big brother made copies of it and passed it around to everyone at school, she became known as “the pirate girl, and was bullied about it endlessly. Since then, she been plagued with horrible self down and self loathing, and has made it her mission to avoid Reece at all costs.

Fast forward 15 years, and she’s now meeting Reece for the very first time. First as a lawyer representing her ex-fiancé. And then, as a parent when his daughter becomes a student of Josie’s. (She’s a third grade teacher at the private school).

The story follows their romance as well as Josie’s character development and inner turmoil over this traumatic and embarrassing event that’s haunted her for most of her life.

It’s also a bit of a forbidden romance since teachers and parents are not supposed to date each other.

I loved everything about it. This story is truly unique. I love their romance, the characters, and their backstories. I also loved that the MMC had an eye patch after loosing his eye in an accident when he was a kid. That added a really interesting and unique layer to the story as well.

It’s light, fun, and fluffy, but it also has some depth to it.

Two things to note:

1. This is a clean romance, so if you only like to read spice, you won’t find it here. There’s only some kissing scenes.

2. And also this is connected to the book “Pumpkin Spice and Not So Nice. They take place at the same time and the FMC’s are best friends & cousins. I would recommend both, but this one was definitely the best.

These books are also “companion books written by different authors. This book is written by a Jennifer Peel, but “Pumpkin Spice and Not So Nice is written by a Becky Monson.

They are also connected to The Holiday Ex-Files (by Jennifer) and How to Ruin the Holidays (by Becky).

I wanted to share that because I was extremely confused when I found these two interconnected stand alones were written by different authors.

I couldn’t tell if the same author had different pen names or if there was plagiarism. That was such a mind fuck until I finally found a thread where Becky explained that to readers.

This is the perfect fall romantic comedy--it even has a pumpkin patch, and the narrator, Stefanie Kay is awesome. 5 golden pumpkins for this one! 🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃

OH. MY. HEAVENS. All the stars and heart eyes for this book. From the dual meaning of 'pumpkin' and 'patch' this book has so many sweet and swoony parts! I kept getting texts from one of my book besties "this is SO good!" "you have to read this when it releases!". Listening to the audiobook was even better than reading the book. The narrator did a fantastic job with Josie and Reece's story, and I WAS NOT disappointed.

Since they weren't allowed to openly date Josie and Reece were just going to just be friends, but I knew that couldn't last forever. Besides the chemistry between them being off the charts, Reece doesn't hide the fact that he's totally into Josie! This guy isn't playing games and it's completely swoony and sigh worthy. I have two words for you 'tractor kisses' (IYKYK). Holy Moly!!

I loved Josi and Reece together. He's so good for her and just what she needed. The man in your life should support you through your difficult times and help you be the best you can be, and that's what Reece did with Josie. When lawyer Reece made an appearance and stood up to the principal of the school that was super hot and swoony!!

Want to know what else women find attractive and sexy? An involved dad who volunteers to be a room parent! Andi's a lucky little girl to have a dad who cares so much about her. Speaking of Andi, she's the cutest and I couldn't help but fall in love with her too. All the scenes at the pumpkin patch with the kids were adorable.

Start your fall off with this amazing and swoony romance--you won't be regret it. Stefanie Kay is an awesome narrator and has quickly become one of my favorite rom-com narrators. I especially love how she did the voice for Josie's inner voice.

Content: super swoony kisses (nothing more) and a few biblical swears (no profanity)

This book is so stink'in cute! I was hoping for a fun and swoony book to start fall and this delivered with all the pumpkiny goodness I was hoping for.

When she was fifteen Josie had a crush on Reece, the cutest and most popular boy in school. When she took her swooning fantasies to paper and wrote a spicy story about a girl and her rogue pirate (played by none other than Reece), she was horrified when her story was suddenly read for all to hear. Including her crush. For years she would be bullied about her steamy story. Ever after, she was known as the pirate girl.

Years later, Josie is teaching at a private elementary school. Her nightmares come to life when her teenage crush strolls back into her life and she becomes his daughter's teacher.

Josie must confront the humiliation of her past, and dare to hope that there may still be a swoony pirate in her future.

While this book has many tender moments, it has a good dose of humor and sizzle. There is a definite autumn vibe going on, with a pumpkin patch, a fall carnival and at least one steamy tractor ride.

I thoroughly enjoyed this. It's the perfect book to read on a cozy fall day.

A Pumpkin and A Patch was brimming with swoony charisma and effortlessly emotive sincerity, and also sparkled with heartfelt allure. Josie and Reese captured my heart from the first page until the last - I was completely enchanted. Heart, humor, and all the sweet - a new Jennifer Peel favorite!

This story is so heartwarming and uplifting. This single dad/teacher romance was completely captivating and unputdownable. Josie and Reese have a long history together, having gone to school together. However, Josie is haunted by a pirate love story she wrote featuring Reese when she was fifteen. Fast forward fifteen years later as they become reunited, as Josie becomes Reese’s daughter’s teacher....with hilarious consequences! It’s a fun set-up, and it’s super cute as Reese’s daughter falls immediately in love with Josie. Josie and Reese are wonderful together, with great chemistry and so much history that grows into a beautiful romance. They had some issues to overcome, but ultimately learned how to love without fears and worries. And that's what I adore the most about this story. Jennifer Peel showed the importance of closing the past to fully enjoy the present and the future. She set a beautiful example that if you can't deal with your feelings by yourself, it's not a shame to seek help.

I loved everything about this story. I loved Josie, I loved Reese, I loved the two of them together, and his daughter was an adorable little show-stealer. A little bit bittersweet, a whole lot swoony, Josie and Reese’s love story was one that I devoured in a day. I couldn’t get enough of this story, and these characters. This story was funny, emotional, and so addicting. Loved it!

I am not sure how to rate this book. I've always loved and enjoyed a good Peel romantic comedy. They have always been funny and clean. I've often laughed out loud and they were a great form of escapism. For example, my two favorite Peel books are House Divided and The Side Lined Wife. However, this book while at first seemed a good premise for a story fell a little short for me. It seemed the make out sessions were pushing the narrative more than the story line at times. Don't get me wrong. I do love a good passionate kiss. But this book pushed the limits for me a tad bit. Some will love that and have no problem with it. With all that said, I do love the author's writing style. She is easy to read and has lovable characters. I'm sure I will read her future books because hopefully they will stay clean and wholesome.

When she was 15 she wrote a "smut" story about her real life crush and her brother read it to the school. 15 years later her parents still think it was based on real life and therefore hate the man in her story. 15 years later she still can't be in the same room as him and literally hides when she sees him in public. I get that as a 15 year old it was an embarrassing event, but 15 years later she should really be over it. I couldn't stand how many people were still quoting the novel she wrote, like they've never read another book or couldn't see why she was upset by the reminders. Even she's living in a story she wrote 15 years ago by thinking about it every time he's around her and she treats him like he's the bad guy when she did something and dwelled on it for her entire adult life. While I can understand her parents being weird about the situation when she was 15, I couldn't read about them still thinking kissing was bad when she was 30.

I get that this was all to set up a backstory, but it was frustrating how much of her life was based on feelings and a story she wrote when she was 15. She seemed childish at best.

All the small town feels, plus a family owned pumpkin patch. A romance between a hot, patch wearing single dad and a teacher. Josie has had a crush on Reece since they were in high school, when she wrote the sexy pirate romance about him that ruined her life. Now, she’s his daughter’s teacher and she is finding it hard to resist him.

This was a feel good, closed door romance and I thoroughly enjoyed the characters, the fall vibe, the tractor kisses (IYKYK) and the cozy feel. It made my heart happy.

I thought that this would be a sweet and short, cute little romance. I wanted it to be thematic with fall and all of the lovely fall activities that I adore while we enter this beautiful season.

I enjoyed this story. I was entertained by the FMC's writing career and the premise of writing a story about a high school crush (I'm sure that there a people who can relate!). I felt as though the comedy was done pretty well, I laughed at times but I also felt like there were some cringey lines, and some goofy plot events. I loved the settings where this love story took place. The idea of a pumpkin farm was so sweet and perfect. One of the things that I was confused by was the conflict/resolution between the FMC and her parents. I think that it could have been introduced and written better in the beginning of the book. The family drama was something that I think many readers can relate to, however, I felt as though it replaced any plot conflict to keep the reader engaged. It felt rushed and not fully fleshed out throughout the book so it was confusing when it popped up around the 75% mark. I felt like the romance had low stakes and ultimately no conflict which was ok, but was boring.

I liked this but I don't think I would reread this book. I have another book by this author on my TBR just to get a feel for her writing style. I think that this was a decent, fast paced read. It was lighthearted (maybe too much?), was a bit shallow in plot and depth, but was still entertaining.

u>Recommend: maybe, for a quick thematic seasonal read!

I have started to notice that Jennifer Peel is stearing away from the clean romance and more into the more explicit romance. There isn't anything in this book that is graphic by any means but I have noticed it starting to go that way in her last few books and I am not a fan of that direction. I love her older books and wished she stayed on the clean side and didn't talk about the main characters ravishing each other. I think this is the lowest I have ever ranked one of her books. I laughed multiple times throughout the book and loved that but didn't enjoy the fact of how the book handled the romance side of the book.

The book is about a 30 year old who wrote a story in her journal when she was a freshman in High school (15) about a senior boy she thought was incredibly handsome. Her older brother found the entry and spread it around the entire school. The romance scenes she wrote in the book were based on things she saw on HBO and it is stated throughout the book that she was detailed. Her parents thought she actually did the things in the book and she got in trouble. She was ashamed of the story and hid from the main male character any time she saw him. The book has a good story line but it could have been cleaner in my opinion. I thought that they didn't need to talk about how they were going to be reenacting the scenes from the book. I hope this helps. I would give it a 5 star if I didn't have to question if they had sex in the book or not.

This just some really bad writing imo. The author tries to hold your hand through every emotion you and the characters should be having and I just could not see the chemistry between the MCs. On top of all this I just could not stand the h’s mom and aunt (aka ‘the sisters) and I just feel in my bones they would be throwing micro aggressions my way left and right irl.

I liked the idea of the story but the execution was just all off

I’m DIGGING the “he falls first stories!

I LOVED Josie and Reece! They were good for each other! And boy oh boy was Reece such a great hero!!!

I wish we’d had dual POV, but I did enjoy the growth Josie went through and how we saw each step of that in her inner dialogue.

There were times that the story felt a little long, and a bit repetitive. She kept holding on to her past and a story she wrote when she was 15. And while I know the whole point was to heal, I think it could’ve been done in a few less pages.

I loved the family healing that happened as well. A lot of past hurts were confronted!

*THIS BOOK IS NOT CF*

There was some HEAT to this book! 🌶 While it was closed door, a lot was implied and a lot of kissing was described. There was also a tiny bit of mild language.

Overall I really did enjoy the story! I enjoyed the world! They really are great fall rom-coms!
I rated this book a 4/5 star

A cute, very over-the-top September-kind of romance. The storyline was actually pretty fun Josie, in her high school years, writes a smutty pirate romance about her one eye, eye patch-wearing crush. The story gets out, and unfortunately follows her throughout the years (yeah bullying sucks), until later on, the very same pirate, in adult form, shows up at her school requesting her to be his young daughter’s teacher. You can very clearly see where this goes, and the writing style isn’t great, but the fall feels were exactly what I was looking for! Especially as Josie’s family owns a pumpkin patch 🎃 Bonus points for the clever title.

This one has been on my TBR since last year and I really wish I would have read it sooner. It was as completely wonderful and amazing as I had heard. This was my first book by Jennifer Peel and it won’t be my last. It was a hands down 5 star read!

Josie had a huge crush on Reece “The Pirate back in high school. So big in fact that she wrote a torrid love story starring the two of them. Since then she has done everything possible to avoid Reece, including hiding from him in public. When Reece’s daughter is put into Josies’s class at school she is forced to have actual conversations with him and confront her past. Only problem is she just can’t seem to fight her attraction for him.

I honestly couldn’t get enough of Josie and Reece! It would be hard not to fall for Reece. He is not only charming and swoony but he is the most supportive and attentive man to Josie. He truly helps Josie face her fears and heal from her past. She has some amazing growth throughout this story. The chemistry between Josie and Reece was like fire on the pages! Seriously, sparks flew and that tractor kiss was just WOW! The entire cast of characters were fun and well written! The sisters had me laughing out loud and reminded me of my family. The book offered the perfect combination of depth and romance that had me flying through it! I didn’t want to put it down. I loved everything about this one! It had me smiling the whole way through.

Favorite Moments:
Josie hiding anytime she saw Reece
Your Royal Highness
Reece helping out at Josie’s family's farm
That Tractor Kiss!
All the kisses after that!
Turkish dramas

Content awareness: Some light innuendo, the kisses are a little on the steamy side but the book stays in the sweet and clean category.

This was such a great read!! Filled with lots of fluff but also deals with bullying.

I loved how Josie managed to face the teenage trauma she endured and work on her healing. I wasn’t expecting that when I first started reading this book.

I also loved seeing how Reece and Josie embraced their titles. Like screw you world. We’re owning it. 😂

Overall, a super cute read for the fall time!
