Wicked Duet #2

No Rest For Wicked

Rate this book
Psychic.

What a joke.

The only thing I can be sure of these days are the three men who have somehow battered their way past my walls and forced me to, dare I say it, start feeling things.

Well…them, and my trusty trash panda partners in crime. But they've always had my heart.

I must have kissed their asses real good, because instead of wanting to kill me, I think they might actually kind of like me.

Circumstances, that were set in motion by my murderous stalker, have thrown my entire world off kilter. People I thought I could trust are acting shady, secrets are being exposed, and things I thought were resolute and irrevocable are suddenly not.

The deeper my sleuthing takes me, the more everything seems to be unraveling from my grip, regardless of how desperately I try to hold it into place.

With the help of the department’s three best detectives, I’m going to find out who's doing this to me and I will bring them to justice. No matter who it is.

There’s no rest for Wicked, because I see their lies

And I have a big mouth.

Author's Note: This is a medium-burn, mfmm, reverse harem novel. It includes darker themes, explicit language, and detailed sexual situations. Only intended for audiences 18 or older.

This book is filled with twists, turns, and revelations I never saw coming. It continues the case started in the previous book, and what they discover about Wicked’s stalker still has me reeling. Along the way, and with much prodding and poking from Nana Wicked, the team opens up about their pasts and their feelings to become a stronger unit together. I’m not sure what the author has planned for the future, but I really hope it includes many, many more stories starring Wicked and her detectives.
I received a complimentary advance copy of this book from the author.

I loved book 1 so much that I read all in one sitting. I wanted to do the same with this one, but unfortunately adulting came in the way. But no matter what, whether I had 5 or 10 minutes, I would dive back in the book, until I reached the last page. I adored it as much as I adored book 1, and I'm so glad it didn't disappoint and met all of my expectations.

Book 2 starts right back where book 1 ended. Wicked still has to deal with the stalker, but this time she has her guys with her. They think they need to protect her, but they still don't know fully that Wicked can protect herself. The story keeps you wanting to run page after page, as it captures its readers with Wicked's sassiness and humour. Yes, we get to find out who the stalker is in this book, but trust me when I say you wouldn't even have considered that person as the stalker.

I hope I get to read more about Wicked and her guys.

Fixing the Broken Pieces

This book takes off right where book one ended. Wicked and the guys, Ezra, Kai and Nic are all trying to figure out where things stand between them all. Their main priority is to keep Izabella safe, but what if her stalker is someone they all know and trust!?

This book continues with the sarcasm, humor and deep character connection. With every new clue or situation that Wicked comes into, it's just another piece of the puzzle to solve. Old secrets are uncovered. Hidden pasts come forward and just when we thought we knew everything, truths are revealed that may or may change her future with the guys.

This book dives deeper into their connections with each other and really open up to each other relationships. When Wicked finds out, the guys are here to stay, for good, even after they find their stalker - she realizes how much she has let them in. The heat is still pretty mild, but we are left with a "group activity" in the end that is pure deliciousness.

When the Stalker is finally revealed, you never would have thought who it is! The author did a great job making you look one way, but then psychin' us out! lol. I hope this isn't the last of Wicked and her guys as I truly do enjoy these characters so much and feel like their story isn't truly over yet. The guys were all perfect and each brought something new and special to Wicked. The trash pandas are still sickishly cute and provide a great amount of entertainment overall. Loved this book.

"I promise that every moment we have together will hold the fulfillment of a thousand lives. I promise that when death does come to take one of us away, we won't be leaving with any regrets. I promise that, while the one left behind may mourn, it will be because they have truly loved and been loved beyond something that death can steal. I promise to give you a life so worth living, that you no longer fear losing me, because you know our lives are so intertwined and woven together that even death cannot separate out souls."

*Overall 4.5/5
*Heat? 3/5
*Med/Slow Burn
*MFMM Relationship
*Check for triggers (Talk of abuse and rape)

No Rest for the wicked is the second and final book in the Wicked series. This automatically picks up from the first book. For being a duet, this had soooo many questions and things revealed that I had been wondering since the very beginninh. It really was such a breath of fresh air. I really saw so much growth between Wicked and the guys. OMG!! This is definitely one that I would pick up again!!

Everything comes full circle in the end. I was totally not expecting the stalker to be who it was at all. It was interesting the entire time to me how Wicked even had a stalker but a stalker who seemed to believing vigilante style all in honor of Wicked. Not normal stalker behavior but still very messy, scary and heartbreaking considering this brings up a whole lot of secrets from Wicked's past that she is not expecting. Of course things go a little awry when the guys only want to keep Wicked safe and sheltered when that's not who she is at all. Being blind will not and does not stop her from jumping straight into the fire. And even when her not being able to see becomes an issue she has her lovely little sidekicks who continue to run the show. I still enjoyed this book but I do think I was a little more distracted here as there's a lot more time spent on sex and Wicked being hurt/knocked out than there is on building the plot. Either way this was a fun duet and I'm sad to let the trash pandas go!

That was unbelievable! It had me laughing so hard my abs hurt. At one point I was choking on my drink it was that funny. 3 hot dudes 1 stubborn as chick and 2 trash pandas who could ask for anything more?? I laughed I cried and I laughed some more. The tension between them all and the spice (fanning myself over here) best book I have read this year.

This duet really didn't hit the mark for me.

Character-wise, Wicked did improve and humanize a bit. Her moments of vulnerability were a bit better timed and her reservations with the guys were a lot more understandable after seeing into some of her (and their) past traumas. My heart truly broke for Kai and Nic's pasts. Ezra's was kind of glossed over but it's safe to say he's still the favorite. The chemistry between them all was much more bearable and Which brings me to the next part...

As for the actual story/mystery/etc. - It was really predictable. It was an interesting plot. The road getting there however..... well, not my cuppa. I was pretty bored throughout just waiting for the inevitable reveal.

Overall: 3.3/5 - Didn't love it. Didn't hate it. As I said in the first review, it's just really forgettable. There were emotions and dark pasts but none of it really resonated with me. The HEA was well done though and their next adventure on the horizon seems like a perfect fit. I think I just had much higher expectations going into this series with the premise and it just failed to meet its potential.

I really wanted to like this as much as I liked book 1, but I honestly didn't

Sum:We pick up where we left off, sort of, with the guys and Wicked laying low since Alan threw them off the case for their protection. We enter at Officer Bass' wedding, where Wicked and company chose to show up...when they weren't supposed to. Immediately we get the vibes from the guys, and an intense scene between Ezra and Nic regarding the treatment of Wicked and with the Stalker on the loose, we can't afford for the guys to not be a unit.

While I loved the multiple POVs and the effort the guys really put into opening themselves up to her and her for them in return...

I did not like that we spent over 85% of the book going back and forth over whether she was ready to love them or not. It felt like we were repeating the same things OVER and OVER again.. I just wanted some action and this was the best I got.

The most action came from one scene from an ex lover, who randomly wanted to go after her for literally nothing that was her fault, which from book 1 seems wayyyy out of character for him.

Another scene where we harm an animal, not cool, and then the ending duel out. I really just needed way more action that this and less of the massively repetitive feeling swarms in every single paragraph.

Lastly, so I don't put heavy spoilers in here, is the Stalker...are you kidding me, it didn't even really make any sense... you were obsessed with someone else, and I get maybe jut shifted it to her, but why wait so long? People been doing her wrong her whole life and she's been alone and blind for years now...it just just did not make any sense to me

The stalker was just a weak character and was written weakly as well, coming in at the last and I mean the LAST 3% of the book is a HUUUUUGE no-no...

Also the spicy scenes were limited two like two or three and one decent group one that was fade to black...

I had high hopes for book two being better, and I know the author said she appreciates those that love and hate her books, but flushing out your story and characters is an easy fix, but write what you like and are good at, just maybe market it differently.

This was not a dark romance for me, it was barely reverse harem, and the stalker might as well have been an imaginary friend and let Wicked be the true killer...that would have made more sense to me...

General: 3
Plot: 2
Spice: 1.5
Char Dev? While they all developed emotionally, it was like watching puberty so...0
Fave Char? still trash pandas and maybe Ezra
OW/OM? No
HEA? Sure
Series/Lone? Duet, last book
Tropes: reverse harem, stalker situation, paranormal
Triggers: Mild, because of loss of a baby, read at your risk there, still murder scenes but less info on those this time...pretty safe IMO

The first book in this series was amazing. I was therefore really excited when I got an e-mail with my arc for the second book. Once more this is a contemporary novel, which I usually don't read too much, but add some murder mystery and a blind girl with special gifts and you got me curious. To make it even better there are raccoons in this series, with their own personalities and very clearly their own opinion that they voice quite clearly.

This second book felt different from the first book and it's hard to pinpoint why. I think it's because the main focus doesn't seem to be on the stalker anymore, but on the relationship. That's not really a bad thing. All characters were wearing masks in the first book, keeping their cards close their chest. That meant there was some instant attraction, but they weren't capable to really form a deep and meaningful connection. They didn't allow the other to come that close.

It was therefore quite interesting to see these characters growing. Our heroine especially had to learn that some people can be trusted, that not everyone leaves and that she's not a burden. But also our heroes needed time to open up and to accept that they wouldn't be our heroine's only love. Because it was quite clear that our heroine did need all of those guys since they each had something unique to offer. Challenges, Laughing and Love.

However, of course we do also find out who the stalker is in this book. There are a few quite exciting moments where the stakes are high and our characters are getting close to danger and I love how we slowly get more information on the stalker but it's still not easy to catch the stalker ourselves. Especially because there are quite some new and interesting reveals in this book only making the list of possible suspects longer.

A great end to a fab duology.

Although I felt it was a bit slow to get to the action and find out who the stalker was, it was brilliantly written, with oodles of wit and sass in the shape of Wicked who I love to bits!

"You want to know how to tell the difference between a sighted person and a blind person? Tell a blind joke. The blind one will laugh and the sighted one will be offended. Humanity is kind of screwy like that. So, yeah. I love blind jokes, and jokes of any kind. How can I not when my entire existence is a joke? If I didn’t have just a little bit of a self-deprecating twist to my humor, I don’t think I would have survived, let alone be as awesome as I am."

Kai, Ezra and Nic were fantastic love interests and each brought a little different something, something to the table. Can't pick my favourite so Wicked's definitely got the right idea in choosing them all!

“Well you know what they say, right? I state with deadly seriousness as I slide my sunglasses back over my eyes. “Men are like Pokémon gotta catch ’em all!

No Rest For Wicked focused more on Wicked, Kai, Nic and Ezra's relationship in the first half of the book. I really loved the bond they built together and bit by bit Wicked's walls came down as she learned to trust again. As the book goes on, you discover more about each of their pasts, which was absolutely devastating at times. Wicked's secret broke me. I sobbed! I think it resonated more with me becasue I'm blind in one eye with severely impaired vision in the other. It made me sick that someone/people could take advantage like they did.

The second half of the book focuses more on solving the case on who Wicked's stalker is. I was so flipping thankful that it wasn't one of the characters as they were like family! It hurt my heart to think they could have done it. The amateur detective in me figured out who it was a fair bit before Wicked, although it was touch and go at times as to who it could be.

Persephone Steele, I can't wait to read more of your work! Bring it on!

!!!This review will have spoilers from the first book in the series!!!
This was the perfect ending to the duet! I love it so much. Wicked and the boys continue to try to solve the case, even though they were all kicked off it in the last book.

This book goes into more depth on the relationships of all the characters. The love interests really start connecting and building that bond, and Wicked connects with other characters to build those strong bonds.

The mystery was so good, I kept guessing throughout the book, and was still so surprised at the end! The ending was incredible, everything felt wrapped up very nicely.

The author also added a "The end.... Or is it?" At the end of the book, so I am very curious if a spinoff or sequel of some kind will come out.

I highly recommend this series, it was absolutely incredible and other works from this author are definitely joining my tbr.

Great HFN!
Yes it does have a happy ending but it definitely feels like Steele has left this open for future stories! Which after this unique duet I am absolutely open to 😄
Our girl Wicked is as sassy and biting as ever, she really does not want to let her boys in at all, yet her Gran has a few stern words to say and the men themselves soon show their true colours allowing Wick to open up to them 🥰 even Nic the utter twitwaffle comes round and you see his d***ish persona make way for the protective thoughtful leader; Kai finally reveals to Wicked what she refused to see allowing them to cement their feelings and Ezra welll let’s just say still waters run deep and he truly allows Wicked to float in his devotion 😍😍 coming together as a family unto really allows them to explore and grow 🔥🌶
With the stalker amping things up and suspicions arousing at every turn, Willow and her guys really need to put their heads together to figure this out! It doesn’t help that Allan has thrown them off the case and out the precinct but with Wickeds powers developing they may have other avenues to use 😅😅
Honestly the shock of who this could be and the twist and turns that help you read right on through (sometimes I found the pace needed to get going a bit but the twists were good when they came)! A solid who dunit 😃

This book was great. I enjoyed it. I loved the ending for Wicked, Ezra, Kai, & Nic and their romance.

It was such a different read for me so fresh and new from the things I usually read and it was just awesome for that. Plus I loved how despite the horrors & tragedies they’ve each faced they were able to find a home and love with each other.

I mean it may not be rainbows and unicorns but it was so raw, real, and their vulnerabilities it was just so deep and all consuming kind of love and no less real. The writing and emotions it’s just superb. Throughly enjoyed it.

Plus the ending oof did not expect that with Nana & Alan I mean realistically I knew it would happen to Nana but the way the book was I was really thinking it was Alan the author definitely for me there.

Also the stalker whewww I can say I really didn’t fully see that coming. I mean I had my suspicions considering everything and as the story progressed but that was wow, just wow.

Anyhow I truly enjoyed this book so to the author awesome job, from the displaying of scenes and her gift to all that they went through and how they all loved and just all the emotions it was an excellent book. And to a fellow reader if you read this review if this type of book is up your alley I’d totally give it a try I’m glad I did. It was very good.

This book was everything I could have wanted in the sequel to They Call Me Wicked and so much more!!

The story picks up where book 1 left off, Wicked at home with her 3 detectives and her stalker still out there disposing of anyone who wrongs her.
The story unfolds as we watch Wicked fighting with her feelings for Nic, Kai and Ezra; convinced that they will leave her at any moment.
It takes some prodding from Nanna Wicked to get the ball rolling. But when it does, It’s really beautiful to watch each of them open up to her and to see her realize that they are there to stay. Each hold a painful past, including Wicked, and I shed many tears learning of what they’d all been through.
The hunt for the stalker takes many twists and turns before the final reveal and I can say for certain that I did not see that ending coming! It was a shock but made complete sense in a way I couldn’t have imagined.
As per the first book, the spice is also top tier!!! The scene I was absolutely dying for played out even better than I had imagined so Thank You Persephone for that!
Overall I absolutely loved this sequel and I cannot recommend this duet enough.
It’s a Spicy Why Choose Mystery that will leave you in fits of laughter as well as feeling all the emotions

Highly Recommend!

No Rest For Wicked

The idea of a blind consultant for the police was so intriguing that I just had to find out more!
Wicked is by far the funniest blind woman. She doesn’t let the fact that she can’t see, stop her from being who she is. She is a woman with no filter, but hey if I could see people’s thoughts and emotions, I wouldn’t have a filter either. Yes, Wicked is a psychic. It runs in her family on her mothers side, skipping a generation. With the help of her abilities, she helps the police solve crimes. And with the help of her 2 beloved seeing-eyed trash pandas, she gets around just fine. That is until she finds out she has a stalker out there murdering people that have hurt her. When that problem comes to light, the police chief orders 3 men from the department to watch over Wicked and protect her. All 3 men bring out different emotions for Wicked, so let’s just say, those men go on a wild ride. But in the end, they are the 3 that Wicked opens up to and let’s in.
Wicked’s personality is one that I wish I could have in my life. She is a BA ballbuster and she doesn’t give a crap if you like it or not.
This series is going to be one that I reread so many times. Such a wild ride!

Okay this book was everything!!! I absolutely loved it, in this book we learn some truths about our 4 main characters. They each have their own stories which make them who they are and I personally love all 4 of their personalities. Especially Wicked’s I think she’s got a great personality with her smart a** and sarcasm. This book has plenty of steam too. I love seeing Wicked breaking her walls down and opening up to the guys. We also learn who her stalker is which I for one was definitely not expecting, I was convinced it was someone else so was upset that I was wrong 😂 I’m really hoping that this isn’t the last of Wicked’s story.

Review

It has been awhile since I have read a book by Persephone and am so glad I picked up this new Duet by her. It was absolutely phenomenal. With every book she writes she just keeps getting more and more amazing. And the characters she created and paired together in this duet were amazing and perfect.

Wicked is an absolutely strong and unique individual who isn’t just a Psychic Detective, which she is awesome at, but she’s also blind. She may be blind but she definitely does not let it stop her from living and enjoying life to the fullest. She’s snarky and funny and has the most amazing trash pandas, and three guys, Ezra, Kai, and Nic who have her back.

This entire Duet will keep you on the edge with all the suspense, action, danger, and steamy moments. Book one ends on a cliffy but book two gives you all the relief you need from it and leaves you feeling totally satisfied. The character growth in book two was absolutely amazing and I enjoyed every minute of all of them. Absolutely fantastic Duet and highly recommend it. Looking forward to reading what Persephone writes for us next.

No Rest for the Wicked by Persephone Steele is the second book in the Wicked duet and is a fabulous continuation of Wicked and her sexy detective guys.

This story picks up right where the first book left us hanging and never stopped running with the mystery of a stalker dead set on “protecting Wicked and hurting anyone that wrongs her in anyway leaving the team scrambling for answers in a hurry to solve the mystery of who her stalker could be.

As always, Steele does an amazing job at creating an intriguing plot that flows perfectly with amazing character development. I loved each of the guys for wicked and how they all felt for her so differently and are each unique in their own way creating the perfect dynamics of a relationship and team. And as always her furry little friends and grandma totally steal the show!

The mystery of the stalker, the buildup of suspense and further development of wicked and her guys relationships was well written and will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very satisfying end that left things perfectly for extra stories to come if Steele so chooses. Well done!

WICKED is such an amazing FMC i am in awe as she is so well written that you feel you actually know and love her, Blind but not weak. Sassy yet has insecurities that make you love this smart-mouthed prickly, and amazingly intelligent person.

INTRUIGED Great, who-done-it plot with so many twists and turns to keep you guessing!

CUTE Trash Panders with as much personality as Wicked!

KINKS 3 different distinctive men all coming together to protect Wicked even from herself. Individually each is broken in some way or another, but together they can help each other cement over the crack in their lives

EVERY CHAPTER HOLD YOUR INTEREST, and this is a read in one sitting book so buckle up B’s, you are in for one heck of a ride!

DEAR AUTHOR DON’T LET THIS BE THE LAST INSTALLMENT WE NEED MORE FROM WICKED!

This is an amazingly different RH story, a delight to read. However, check out the triggers, as it may be off-putting for some people, especially those who are into fluffy pink bunny slippers , rainbows, and unicorns, as is decidedly darker than that.

Nonconforming Heart

‘I’ve licked them. They’re mine. That’s how it works, right? Even with the risk of destroying my soul if I ever lose them, I’m done being stupid and trying to push them away. Nic still has some road left to travel between us, but even that feels inevitable. Ezra and Kai? Well…they’ve already taken up residence in my heart with no plans on ever moving. It’s like they’ve found their forever home.

No Rest for Wicked, Persephone Steele’s second book in her Wicked Duet series, was hysterical, steamy, and sensitive, all while being irreverent.

Watching Wicked, psychically superior, falling in lust with her detectives-yes, all three, feeling her psychic Nana getting ready to leave the earthly plain, and questioning those closest to her, all while trying to solve the mystery of her stalker and prevent others from becoming victims of said stalker, makes this book crazy intense. It also provided a wonderful sense of drama that kept me reading straight through til the end.

I look forward to seeing what Wicked and her trash pandas will be up to next!

Wicked is an interesting character. She’s an unusual FMC. Blinded due to an accident when she was 12, shackled by a psychic gift passed down on the female side of her family, her emotions and heart are rather stunted. When faced with a stalker, she’s forced to open her home, and dare I say her heart to 3 guys who latch onto her and fill places she didn’t know were hollow. They compliment each other, as well as drive each other mad. There were times I wasn’t sure why they stuck around, but it all comes together in the end. The stalker mystery kept you on your toes until the end, as well as the mystery around her family a bit. Her gift is interesting, and I’m curious to see how it will all shake out in the future. I love how even though this is the end of her back story and getting her together with her guys, it could be only the beginning of more investigational crime books as the 4 of them (don’t forget the trash panda support animals) strike off on their own. I look forward to reading more!

Spent a lot of time dwelling in darkness before the light at the end of the tunnel started to appear

Bell, a psychic, along with Nic, Ezra, and Kai, three detectives she works with, have rescued her mother, and she uses that term VERY loosely, from the stalker that is dead set on making anyone that wrongs Bell pay with their life. As the story progresses there are things she needs to know, they take her to places she prefers not to go, and she get hit with multiple unhappy events than she should in a row. No Rest for the Wicked spent a lot of time dwelling in darkness before the light at the end of the tunnel started to appear. Bell, her men, and her trash pandas all have a permanent place in my top books to reread. They spend just as much time trying to heal from their pasts as the do trying to solve the mystery of her stalker. I would love to see further books with these characters solving other cases!

I received a free copy of the book from the author. I had the opportunity to review or not.

Oh wow this book was fantastic. This is the second in this contemporary duet and it ticks so many boxes for me. I was drawn to this series initially because it really stood out. A blind FMC with special abilities?with raccoons as service animals? I was very intrigued and this story did not disappoint. This book starts off pretty much where the first ended and it keeps you on your toes the whole way through. The sarcasm and jokes are hilarious. The twists and turns and overall plot is thick and well fleshed out. The character development and personal growth is phenomenal , these characters had to face some big truths in this book and this authour has done such an amazing job making these characters come to life, the intricate detail to not only Wicked but the men in her life was so so well done. Overall I really enjoyed this duet. It has drama and action and humour and while not exactly plenty, the spice is also really well done. This story flows really well, it was a very entertaining read and ties up the story nicely , although I do hope we get to see Wicked and her men again!

The second book in the duet mellowed out a bit with the abruptness. With this story, you learn more about each of the characters backgrounds.

Izabella Wicked is a blind psychic detective. She also has a stalker who knows of her abilities and limitations of said abilities. She has a pair of seeing eye raccoons (I did not care for this aspect of the story). I also did not like the lack of calling Izabella's psychic power for what it is: Psychometry. I felt it should have been stated due to the fact she had to touch something to get the vision.

I enjoyed seeing the story unfold with Izabella's past and the accident that made her blind. Though she learns more about her men, and they seem to find their niche together, the stalker angle of the story was what kept me reading.

I will say I was surprised as to who the stalker was.
And the end scene at the cemetery? That was another "I don't think so" moment for me. There were just too many of those moments add in the inconsistencies in this story, and it took away a lot of enjoyment that I would have had other ways.
