I’m TR Cameron, science fiction author. I’ve been an avid consumer of the genre since I was six, I think, when I broke the seal on my Dad’s copies of the Asimov Foundation books. It’s been all downhill since then.
I have a day job that I love most days, and writing is pretty much my only consistent hobby. When I find time that’s not already filled with my wife, my daughter, my writing, my work, or dodging the affections of our clowder of cats, you can find me playing video games (currently Dishonored 2 I’m a little behind the times on this one), watching things (Marvel movies, American Gods, Agents of Shield, Justified, The Expanse, Gotham), playing board games, or, naturally, reading.
My favorite authors in Sci-Fi are David Weber, Jean Johnson, John Scalzi, CJ Cherryh, and the giants: Asimov, Pohl, Bear, Heinlein, etc. I read a lot in other genres too, and am a big fan of Matthew Woodring Stover, Michael Anderle, Jim Butcher, and I could go on and on and on. If I had to choose one favorite, though, it would be Stephen R. Donaldson, whose Thomas Covenant series was transformative for me.
Probably my pie-in-the-sky dream for my writing career is that someone would make a movie or television show of my books and I could be a part of the production. Sure, unlikely, but a clowder-dodger can dream, right? My more practical dream is that I can keep writing and both entertaining and connecting with my readers for years and years to come.

Satisfying conclusion to a combat-rich, adventurous, urban fantasy series of series
Before reading this series, I strongly recommend readers to first complete the preceding series by this same group of authors (in order of dates of publication), as all the main characters appearing in this series have backstories. This includes: Federal Agents of Magic (US/Oriceran setting); Scions of Magic (New Atlantis/New Orleans/Oriceran setting); and Magic City Chronicles (Las Vegas/Oriceran setting) [not listed here in chronological order]. It is possible to read each series as standalone fantasy, but the jokes and intertextual references make the story so much more enjoyable when the reader is familiar with each character’s storyline and background. (It is worth reading the other Oriceran series as well, of the different schools of magic; the bounty hunters and the artefact seekers to become even more deeply immersed in this Oriceran urban fantasy world.)
That said, this is great entertainment for those who love realistic combat scenes (meaning that the authors took time to make sure the fight scenes make sense the reader can easily visualise the fighting sequences as in a movie). The running jokes between characters, between novels and between series, bind together various storylines and act as effective counter to intense fight scenes and high-stakes plotlines.
This series is the conclusion of a story that started with Federal Agents of Magic, where Bryant and Diana meet for the first time to form a magical defence against enemies that are magically enhanced threatening the United States. In this conclusion, the fight is no longer confined to the US or Earth, but has built to include the universes of New Atlantis and Oriceran.
There is some formulaic sameness to the different series: introduction of the heroes, the heroes face some seemingly unstoppable foe or group of foes, it looks like the heroes will lose the battle in the middle of the storyline, and then eventually they overcome the foes and all obstacles. But in that lies safety for readers who enjoy happy endings and good triumphing over evil. Along the way, there is rip-roaring action, much good-humoured banter and building of alliances.
What makes this series stand out from the other that precede it is that the guaranteed baddies at the start of the series do not remain bad throughout to die in defeat at the end but are more nuanced. There are opportunities of redemption and changing course in this series that are not present in the preceding series. I found myself rooting as much for some ‘bad characters in the beginning as I was for the heroes. All in all, a most enjoyable reading journey.

Another reason to keep this group of authors in your best reads category.
I am so glad I found this Cameron series. The characters play off each other so well and Cameron is basically a king when it comes to fight scenes. It is not the typically ordered fight, talk, fight scenes like many books, thank the gods! Nope, these folks have brains and lives away from their battles. Definitely a must read.
I read the first box set of this series (Federal Agents of Magic) a little over 2 years ago. It was great to get reacquainted with the team. I enjoyed that this set was not completely about Diana and Rath, but that all the team members had story time and plots dedicated to each of them. These plots were integral to the overall arch of this set. Plus, this set had even more snark, action, laughs, and fun!
I really enjoy these characters. They cope with their setbacks very well and just continue to do their best. I also like that they interact with other magicals that we meet in the Ocerican universe.
