The Westmorelands #5

Riding the Storm

Rate this book
Women called him the perfect storm because he could sweet-talk any woman into his bed, and regularly did so. Firefighter Storm Westmoreland used lovemaking the way other men used a long, hot shower-to blow off steam. Until a torrid weekend with a too-hot-to-handle virgin left a certain legendary player craving something other than mere physical gratification.

Caught in the eye of the storm, Jayla Cole was no match for the sexy fire chief or the emotional inferno he ignited inside her. But would she be satisfied with the mind-blowing, sex only relationship she shared with Storm, or was starting a family on her own still what she desired more than anything?

Just lost the stuff I wrote, so lets keep this short and sweet, like the book.
Storm the playboy and Jayla the virgin whose too old to be a virgin.
But I did enjoy it. I just get tired of the double standards. Not that I want her to be easy...
Anyhow, part of the reason she is a virgin, is because her father was so strict when she was growing up. This is the man who was Storm's boss and a man he looked up to. So even though she has crushed on him since forever, he has always ignored it. He still ignores the attraction even after he has started to feel it in return, in deference to her father's memory.
So when they meet by coincidence in the same hotel in New Orleans, he is determined to keep it just friendly. She actually doesn't expect anything, and has plans that she doesn't want to change anyways. She is afraid of being with a controlling man, like her father was. You'd think it would be more about Storm's notorious playboy status, but nothing much comes of that. Except that she feels she can't take him seriously, even after he decides to get serious. It was sweet and romantic.
The audio reader was quite good.

Another good addition to this series!
Storm has known Jayla as his fire chief's daughter. While she has grown up having a crush on him, he's always overlooked her until her dad passes away. As he finds her all grown up and enchanting, sparks fly and they end up having a hot affair.
A woman determined to fix her destiny, and a man who intrudes those plans- this was a sweet read with no angst.

“Riding the Storm is another thrilling read. As with all the Westmoreland men, Storm is just as sexy, romantic and intelligent as the others. Once again I was captivated by the HOT & SPICY romance between Jayla and Storm. And I definitely love Mrs. Jackson's HAPPILY-EVER-AFTER endings. I look forward to continuing this series, until I'm all CAUGHT UP with each Westmoreland story.

I loved how Storm & Jayla rekindled their attraction in New Orleans. I loved how Storm realized Jayla was the only woman for him. I loved how Jayla got the man she had a crush on for so many years. I really loved how Jayla & Storm got the family they wanted. This book was enjoyable to read & it is worth every penny.

4 stars. This one was great because Storm and Jayla start off as strictly sexual relationship. No attachments, no catching feelings and it was wonderful. They are both very strong and stubborn characters that know what they out of life. Jayla was very spirited and feisty and I loved how independent she was. She wanted a family, but minus the husband to tie her down. Storm is traditional and wants a wife to provide for and they bump heads on it which was great. The development of both characters was well done because it felt genuine and they had awesome chemistry. The ending was cute and satisfying.

This series is so much fun because of all of the side characters. The Westmorelands are a huge ass family full of charming and lovable characters that add so much depth and heart to these books.

Short and sweet!

Storm is sexy, strong, powerful and earth-shaking just like his name! I loved the chemistry between Storm and Jayla. So glad they realized how important it is to communicate and to hold on to your dreams.

Nicely Done!

Nov 11th: re-read for second time. Just as scorching as the first time!

very easy to read and that's what i wanted. however, it's a little... boring. the writing is too simple for my taste and the characters' personalities are also a bit one dimensional. also this is one of the cis-straightest books i've ever read hahaha.

Very formulaic, but it works for Brenda Jackson, so why change? Recommended for those who desire a slow and easy read. No major drama, just Hallmark Channel type romance. No muss, no fuss.

Buy it, read it and enjoy.👍🏾🔥👍🏾🔥👍🏾🔥👍🏾🔥

A lire absolument.

Storm Westmoreland is one of my favorite Atlanta Westmorelands. I liked the opening love scenes in New Orleans. The fact that Storm is loyal to the memory of Jayla Cole's father does not stop him from falling in love and having some hot hot sex. I love the fact that Jayla wants a baby and that is exactly what Storm gives her... Those Westmoreland men will always give you exactly what you want.

This book is #5 of the Westmoreland series.

Jayla Cole the daughter and only child of Adam Cole is now alone. Jayla’s mother died when she was 10 years old and now her father is dead. Years ago, when Jayla was young, Storm Westmoreland worked for her father Adam and Jayla had this huge crush, but being six years apart, Jayla was too young for Storm and working for Adam meant off-limits to his daughter. However, Storm promised Adam that he would always look out for Jayla, even though he had not done a really good job of it.

Adam Cole was so strict when it came down to Jayla, it was almost controlling. Yet, it was a father’s love with no harm intended. Storm was like the son that Adam never had, but regardless Storm worked for Adam and Jayla was off limits so his change of pursuing her was out of the question. Adam was now dead, so he was no longer a buffer, but still Storm was hesitating. Because Jayla was so sheltered by her father, she had no intentions of developing a relationship with any man, she refused to let a man dictate her life. Now alone with no family, Jayla decides to reach out to a fertility clinic, because she wants a baby and that is all she wants.

Jayla and Storm runs into each other in New Orleans while attending a convention and they develop a pretty good relationship, considering it took them awhile. Although, she has feeling for Storm, but she refuses to let that get in the way of her having a baby. Jayla felt the relationship between them was just temporary and was not a concern. On the other hand, Storm was fighting his own feelings, he could handle physical passion, but not emotions. After Storm had finally admitted and accepted that he was in love with Jayla and once he found out about the fertility clinic, there was no way he was going to allow Jayla to have a baby by a man she did not know. He would marry her and give her that baby she wants, but Jayla never found or thought Mr. Right existed. Stone let’s her know he is Mr. Right.

I enjoyed the story. It was real and understandable. It shows how not thinking rationally can cause you to make hasty discussions; we can learn from our past, but not live by it and how stubbornness can make you blind. I give this book 4 out of 5 stars. I probably won’t re-read, but I do recommend this book.

Cast:
 Justine Skye as Jayla Cole

🙃

why no I not like myself - which - the comment is because I didn't write a "review" and it's now 3-13-21 and *facepalm*

it doesn't feel right to review this book but it'd be Cish?

But! I like the smitten characters - so IIRC the hero was attracted to the heroine the first time he saw her - but she was too young so he shut that down/off - and she liked him too but ... she didn't take into consideration the age thing [which *eyeroll*]

I liked that she kinda gave him a run for his money

I THINK also this is the heroine who did the whole dress thing - and maybe O_o the fortune teller?
:X maybe? 🤷🏻‍♀

I think I liked this one low key more than the others and would be willing to re-listen to this one/would do so happily :)

It was ok, although hero is a nice guy I just really can't stand the type of guy hero is and had been for years. He only goes away for a week to a conference and his answering machine is full of women wanting to hook up with him, I would imagine with the amount of women he has been with would probably be thousands and thousands. I also didn't like that hero didn't have this overwhelming attraction from seeing heroine year before at her father's birthday party or even 6 months before at Father's funeral to not sleep with lots of other women. Heroine was alright but her stubbornness got a bit old by the end of book. P.

Where's the story? Where's the plot? the entire point of this book is to have sex between the main characters. Yeah Jayla wants to have a baby by herself and Storm wants to love 'em and leave 'em but that is about it. I spent several hours on this book and i still have no idea what it was about apart from all the sex they had. I don't mind sex in books but I prefer storyline to go with the sex. Without it, it's just a book about sex.

I can’t lie, the description made me question if it would be either bland or just so lust filled that the storyline would suffer....Boy was I wrong ! Storyline was intact and I ended up liking Jayla more than I expected. I also love the transformation of Storm from playboy to dedicated husband to be. Another great book in the Westmoreland series!

Unfortunately, this was just a lot of sex and not much story. Don't get me wrong, sex is good, but I like my romances to have more story to them. The majority of this book was them in bed. Whenever they were somewhere else, it was quickly told, not shown and then they quickly went to either their hotel rooms or homes and back in bed.

The Perfect Storm met his Perfect Match. Jayla was at times immature. No one should have a child because they're lonely. What a terrible expectation to place on another human being especially a baby.

I love that Storm managed to blow up that plan. She got the family she needs. The Westmorelands/Outlaws clan are deep in roots and numbers.

Storm worked with Jayla's father. Both Storm and Jayla met unexpectedly when they were out of town and at the same hotel. They ended up going on a date and realized they had feelings for one another.

I am enjoying the Westmorelands Series. I am up to #16 in the series. And it has not disappointed. This is one was okay. It was an easy read. I enjoyed the intimacy scenes. Not too much over the top - just enough. I look forward to coming back for more!

I really liked this story. Storm has to overcome his ideas about traditional roles and Jayla has to realize that sometimes Mr.Right is not who you think it is.

I found this one to be a little too corny for my taste. Cute story but not much character development.
