This was my first "demon" book. I've stayed away from them for a while, but dash it all, this just sounded too good. I'm glad I finally caved.

The Good: Eden. I loved her! She was tough, empathetic and knew enough to be terrified shitless when the situation called for it. She didn't think she could take on the world (a character flaw that bugs me in most paranormal romance and urban fantasy) and was actively trying to get help when she needed it. She even knew when the help she was looking for was wrong and busted her biscuits to get away from said help. Also, you have to love a gal who is so socially awkward around a guy she's attracted to and can still keep up an inner snark dialogue.

More Good: Darrak *fans face* I totally see how he used to be what he used to be. His sarcasm and not-quite-careless flirting was a great break from the uber-alpha paranormal heroes. He was a bad boy (extremely bad) who honestly did want to do the right thing and was trying his damnedest (har har) to make those right (to him) decisions when the chips were down. He wasn't all sunshine and flowers, which is a very good thing, and he was definitely a selfish ass at times. Flawed and trying to turn his "life" around. Just how I love my heroes.

The Mediocre: . Oh, and .

The Bad: I actually can't think of anything right now that was Bad about the story. Yay!

Anyway. I was thrilled that the focus of the book was really Eden and Darrak figuring out how to "live with each other" and their growing relationship. There were action-y subplots and whatnot that gave it a nice break and kept the story from flagging too much.

All in all, a fun, fast read that made me immediately download the second book on my ereader and pre-order the third book.

21 May 2012 EDIT: I re-read this book a few days ago when I was scrolling through my ereader, looking for something to read, and found books two and three. I didn't notice The Mediocre this time, so my enjoyment went up even more.

The concept was really awesome. You follow a light medium who ends up getting possessed by a demon. But the demon is smoking hot and there's more to him than meets the eye. What I liked most about this was how Rowen brings in the supernatural realm once our main character Eden is introduced to this world. It is really reminiscent to the magic worlds seen in the TV show Charmed, Angel, and even Supernatural and I LOVED that.

At times, I found the dialogue to be a little cheesy, but overall, I really really enjoyed this book. I can't wait to read the rest of the series because the ending was a great ending that leads into the next book!

Pretty decent book. Third person POV. Bad demon becomes good demon. Good person unknowingly becomes black witch via sex. Yeah, that's different. LOL.
Protagonist is very relatable, quirky and funny. I like her.
Love the part about a Goonies poster!
Author didn't say how to get rid of the demon since the one person who could is now dead. Hm. . .

The ending was a nice surprise. Her father is a what? ;o)

I like this one. Curious to read the next.

So I got to read this early, and it was very fun! I have to admit that Rowen surprised me many times - just when I thought I had the story figured out, she twisted it on me again. Love that. :)

This book took me so long to review, and it's not because I didn't enjoy it. In fact, I think that, if anything, The Demon in Me is a refreshingly new twist to paranormal books.

Readers meet Eden, a young woman living on her own. She's struggling to make ends meet within a dying business. Hired as a "psychic consultant", our heroine is exploring a serial killer's home. Imagine her surprise when she stumbles upon our friendly neighborhood demon Darrak, who wastes no time in possessing her body.

But we have nothing to fear because Eden must have been imagining it. Wrong. The story picks up steam once Darrak finally gets to speak, and believe me when I say that that demon is more than welcome to possess me any time he wants. He's sexy with a capital S.

Our beloved heroine had the tendency to get on my nerves sometimes, especially since Darrak was such a sweetheart. I can't stand when a heroine treats the people around her badly, and, unfortunately, Eden had some bitchy moments. But you know, those moments aside, she was still an amazingly well rounded, strong character. So I'll forgive her this one time ;)

I can tell you right now that I am a new fan of this series, and of Michelle's books in general. I cannot WAIT for the next book in the Living in Eden series!

My feelings toward this book are all mixed up. While reading it I just couldn't put it down, I had this itch to keep reading and reading but once I finish it I never felt like it was the best book ever or anything similar. It was a great read though, original and catching, I really liked it. I think it has a lot of potential to become an amazing series but it has also the potential to become one very, very lame. One can only hope next book is better and not one which will ruin everything.

I liked the UF side of the story, I think it was very different and interesting. I loved how everything I discovered made me wanna know even more but also I loved how even though you were dying to know more the intimation got to you very slowly, torturing you while waiting. In this type of situations I tend to get frustrated and mad because I hate not getting enough background information but in this case it just worked for me.

I really wanna read next book, I just hope I wont be disappointed.

Michelle Rowan always confuses me. Not her stories, just my own feelings toward them. I like them. Her characters always appeal to me, and her plotting has a good pace. The problem is, I always feel there is something missing, but can never put my finger on it.
So now that I have finished this book, the first one in this series, I know I will have to read the others, to find out what happens, but these books will never be favourites that I re-read over and over again. I would also like a bit more steam in her books, as I like my romances just a little hotter.

"He was deep inside of her. She frowned. That sounded way sexier than it should have. No, instead she was possessed by a demon"

I had a lot of fun with this one!
So in this book we have our reluctant and often time sporadic psychic, Eden, is roped into trying to "sense" out a serial killer by a gun-ho detective when, surprise of all surprises, she does. However Mr. Crazy and Stabby is not your run of the mill psycho- he's actually possessed by a Demon. However, when the Demon no longer has a host he latches on to the first soul he can ie. Eden.

Now not only does Eden have a sarcastic and sexy demon, Darrak, inside her head at night and corporeal during the day- she also has to deal with the influx of supernaturals suddenly flocking to her day job at a detective agency, and a group of exorcists following her every move.

How can she get rid of Darrak without compromising her soul or killing him in the process, and meanwhile keep her feelings in check with her growing attraction to the seductive soul stealer?

The Demon In Me is the kick off to Michelle Rowen’s new Living In Eden Series.

Eden Riley is a psychic consultant to the police department, but Eden’s not like any other psychic. She doesn’t really believe she’s a psychic, she gets odd vibes but she can’t just direct things to happen for her. After finding a missing dog which she finds out belongs to the wife of the Chief of Police, Eden is asked to consult with them of the case of a serial killer. Accidentally, Eden finds the serial killer in a closet but little does she know he’s possessed by a demon. When the hot Detective Ben, who is partnered with Eden, kills the serial killer the demon enters Eden.

The demon introduces himself as Darrak, he was cursed by a black witch 300 years ago & has been trying to find her ever since. Due to Eden’s psychic energy, Darrak can take form during the daylight hours which has never happened in all the 300 years he’s been cursed. Together they must find a way to get Darrak out of Eden, because when a demon possess a host, the host only has one year to live & time is running out.

I cannot tell you how much I love Michelle Rowen’s writing, The Demon In Me doesn’t disappoint! Rowen is one of the best paranormal romance writers out there. Not only does she have solid plot lines that are action packed, but she is one hell of a funny writer. There were a few instances that a snort actually escaped my nostrils! Eden is one hell of a character, she gets possessed & doesn’t go all girlie & have a breakdown…well she does, but she’s strong as hell (ha). She’s a kick ass heroine who deals with all the crap that’s slung at her (and there is a lot) & keeps going. On top of it, Eden gets a crash course on the Supernatural, one that would make anyone freak right out. Not Eden, she takes it in stride & tries to learn as much as she can. But Darrak isn’t always so forthcoming with information, he IS a demon afterall.

Darrak is one hot demon who’s gained a little humanity whilst cursed. He’s been possessing bad people, but with Eden he is gentle, unlike what you’d think a demon would be. He’s overly protective of her even when he’s inside her head during the night-time hours. He’s sexy as sin & the romance scenes between Eden & Darrak are hot hot hot. He does have a bit of a temper, which manifests itself at times through slapping people Eden’s talking too (snort). But there’s some big old issues with their “romance & they’ll have Leena as a chaperone..

I couldn’t put The Demon In Me down, it’s one of those books you finish & go “oh damnit, I read too fast. I actually read the preview of Something Wicked in the back of the book & I never ever read the extras. Thankfully Something Wicked comes out October 2010! If you are looking for a humorus PR with a kick ass plot, go get The Demon In Me. It reminded me of how much I love a good PR.

Eden Riley is a skeptical psychic. After helping the Chief of Police's wife find her missing dog she was pressured into taking a job as a psychic consultant for the police. No one is more miserable about this arrangement than Eden. She freely admits that she doesn't believe she's psychic. She gets hunches that pan out, but she can't make herself have psychic visions. That means she's not psychic, right? Unfortunately for Eden, on her first consultant job she gets a hunch about where a serial killer is and ends up with more than she bargained for. All of a sudden she's hearing a man's voice in her head and she just doesn't know what's going on.

Darrak is a demon who has to jump from host to host to survive. Unfortunately for Eden, that serial killer was his last host and when Detective Ben killed him Darrak was forced to jump to another body. Guess who that turned out to be? Yes, Darrak and Eden now inhabit the same body. This is something new for both of them as Eden has never had a demon in her (obviously) and Darrak has never jumped to a female before.

Watching Darrak and Eden navigate the boundaries of their new life was fun. The author actually addresses subjects that the common reader would ask. What happens when Eden needs to go to the bathroom? What happens if she wants to get physical with someone? They have very funny exchanges throughout the book and the momentum never stops.

I really liked that Eden didn't trust Darrak right away. I think it was very realistic for her to try to take the measures that she did. She unwittingly started an undesirable chain of events, but how was she supposed to know? She was looking out for number one. I also really liked the facts that we found out about Darrak. I liked that he tried to present himself in the best possible light and that Eden had to figure out if she was okay with the reality of who he was once she found out more about him.

All in all a fun new series that I would definitely recommend.

the premise of this book had so much potential. the problem was the writing itself. it just seemed juvenile. the book came off like it was written by a teenager. a decent portion of the dialog sounded like it was taken out of a high school girl's bathroom. i am hoping this is one of those cases where the author finds their voice over time.

Eden Riley has had her fair share of mockery for being a psychic consultant with the police, however her life really becomes wacky when she becomes possessed by a demon. And things become especially complicated when he can take form outside of her and is incredibly handsome. Though for a demon, Darruk ends up being pretty nice, which is why Eden swears to help release him from his curse. That, and his possession will inevitably kill her within a year.

This was fun! The plots are a little far fetched, but entertaining enough. The characters are pretty average, but have enough good qualities to make you root for them. Darrak’s humanness was probably the highlight of this book, and I loved seeing that be explored and explained as the book progressed. Dialogue becomes a bit misguided and fake at times, but overall it was to be expected. I was hoping for a more slow burn romance that was in Falling Kingdoms (another Michelle Rowen book under a different name), but this was a pretty fast paced romance. It was still very sweet, and I’m looking forward to seeing where Eden and Darrak’s adventures take them next!

Unique story about a demon possessing a slightly psychic woman and the adventures they have trying to get him unbound from her. She will die within a year if he isn't released from her body. I enjoyed all the side characters. While this was classified as a paranormal romance, despite their attraction to each other and one night of sleeping together (no real details) there isn't much of anything of "romance". I would have liked there to have been somehow. Be warned, the story doesn't end with book one, and has a shocking cliffhanger, you'll need to get books two and three. I've purchased book two and will see how it goes.

Eden Riley is a skeptic psychic. She knows she has a little power, but she has no control over it. She is not a big believer in what she can do, but while working with the Police to find a serial killer, she has a vision and ends up finding him. It turns out to be a horrible experience for her. The killer makes her a hostage and the cop she is working with, the handsome Ben Hanson, has to shoot him. Little did she know, but the serial killer was possessed by a demon and when he dies the demon jumps into her.

She now has a demon inside of her. She can hear him, something he had trouble with when he was inside his previous hosts. Because of her otherworldly powers the demon can also take form during the day, although he has to stay close to her to do so. His name is Darrak and he is incredibly good looking and sarcastic. He tells her that he was cursed by a black witch 300 years ago and lost his body. He needs her help to find the witch and break his curse, in exchange he will help her in her dating life, which so happens to have improved when Detective Ben asked her out.

Of course, things aren't as simple as they sound and the possession brings Eden a lot of headaches and problems, especially in the form of very insistent exorcists, free loading shifters and unexpected lust.

The premise sounds very interesting, but I wasn't captivated. I'm usually a very fast reader and once I start a book I tend to finish it in one sitting. That was not the case here. I kept stopping and finding other things to do. It wasn't that the book was bad, but I just couldn't keep my interest in it for very long. I'm actually having a hard time writing this review, because I can't seem to put my finger on what didn't really work for me, but I'll try.

There are some very funny scenes and quotes in the book, but I wasn't laughing out loud at them. I did smile more than once, but that was the strongest reaction I had while reading it. I did like Eden and Darrak, but their relationship struck me as very shallow. The book and the characters felt flat to me. The writing was weak. There were some surprising twists and turns in the plot at the end, but it just didn't do it for me. I thought the novel would be in the same line as the wonderful and hilarious Queen Betsy series by MaryJanice Davidson, but it really didn't come close. It is a light and fluffy read, but maybe too superficial for me. It has some entertaining moments, I won't deny that. There is room for improvement and the world the author built has a lot of potential, so maybe the next one will be better.

I don't regret reading it, and I know a lot of people will enjoy what Michelle Rowen created, but I wasn't impressed. I don't know if I'll be reading the next one in the Living In Eden series, Something Wicked, that will be released in October 5th, 2010. But I'll keep an open mind about it, after all I didn't dislike the book, I just didn't love it.

The Demon in Me kicks off a new series which is not quite paranormal romance and yet not quite urban fantasy either. Leading lady Eden, is a psychic who is skeptical about her abilities - she thinks she's just a bit intuitive since her powers are somewhat erratic. On Eden's first job as a police consultant, her powers work just fine, but as an unfortunate consequence of her first success, Eden ends up posessed by a demon. The demon was cursed by a witch 300 years ago and has been disembodied ever since, moving from host to host, but rarely able to communicate with them. However, something about Eden's powers makes it possible for him to not only speak to her mind to mind while resident in her body, but also to take an extremely appealing corporeal form during the daylight hours as long as he stays in close proximity to Eden.

Now that the demon can actually communicate with a host, he can finally get help hunting down the witch who cursed him and make the witch break the spell. As nice and undemonlike and hot as Eden's new 'guest' seems, Eden keeps reminding herself that demons are tricky, lying and seductive but still the demon has managed to motivate Eden to take up his cause and to help him find a way to end his curse. The motivation - other than the fact he's ruining Eden's chances with the hunky policeman she's been crushing on? The demon's hosts all die a year after he has taken up residence.

The demon was likable enough, if a bit possessive(pun intended) and his presence - despite the impending death part - actually changes Eden's life for the better and Eden was fine too. The story was cute and light but when I read the book I was expecting more of a romance and with the conflict between the demon and Eden over Eden's pursuit of the handsome cop, I wasn't sure whether to root for the beautiful blond human or the attractive demon. I actually liked the Demon in Me better after thinking on my reactions to the book when taken as more of a sexy urban fantasy. And since this wasn't an end-to-end romance, a less direct route to a HEA, along with a certain amount of world building can be justified and the ending with Eden's transition, plus the addition of angels to the mix, offers some promise as the series continues in Something Wicked out October 2010.

After falling in love with the author's other books, I was excited to start another series by her. Michelle Rowen always has the ability to create a new world with witty humor, fun characters and all at a great pace to keep me interested from beginning to end. With this series, we meet Eden Riley. Eden has a small touch of psychic in her that she has been using to help the police in unsolved cases. In her first case with the police, she failed them. Now as she tries again with the next case, she find herself working with a skeptical detective named Ben who happens to be a "Ken Doll" looking model. To say she has a crush on him is putting it mildly. When they enter a serial killers home to uncover clues, Eden finds herself face to face with the killer. After Ben shoots the killer, Eden is overcome with black smoke that only she can see and quickly finds out that it was a cursed Demon that has now taken up residence in her body.

Eden is the only one that can hear Darrak since he is literally living inside her body. After centuries of not being able to communicate with his hosts, Darrak is excited to finally have someone who can help him break a Black Witches curse that condemned this archdemon to his current predicament. Since Eden is part psychic, Darrak can also take human form outside of her body during the daylight hours.

The author did not disappoint with the fun and witty dialogue with this series. Darrak was sexy, funny and oh so bad but in a good way. You couldn't help but feel the same way Eden does toward the demon. She goes through shock, disbelief and eventually trust and love with the demon.

With a fun plot, sexy demon and a psychic who is as skeptical as a non believer can be, this book will take you on a roller coaster of laughter, suspense and all out fun. Darrak is a demon who could posses me anytime and take up permanent residence in my body! A well done beginning novel to a series that is sure to be a hit and one I look forward to reading the rest of!

Possessed by The Demon In Me!

Or should I say obsessed, mesmerized, entranced...any and all of those adjectives apply!

I've been a big fan of Michelle's work since her first book, Bitten & Smitten. Since I loved the Immortality Bites series, color me a bit skeptical that she could write a hero I liked as much (or even a wee bit more) as IB's Thierry de Bennicoeur. I was wrong. Darrak, the demon who does the possessing (and the occasional ass kicking and/or romancing, as the situation warrants) in The Demon In Me is my favorite Rowen hero yet. Even though he has his angst - hello, demon - he has a sense of humor about the situation he and Eden find themselves in. He doesn't take himself too seriously and he's also pretty direct about who and what he is, though he dispenses the truth in manageable doses for the confused human who ends up being his earthly vessel.

Eden's..refreshing, for a lack of a better word. Smart and self-aware, she's a character I loved spending time with. I very much related to what she was going through, as impossible as that sounds. You can't help but root for her to somehow find her improbable happy ending with the demon who's possessed her. But all's not as it seems with Eden, and I can't wait to find out more about her backstory in the next book.

The scenes between Eden and Darrak sizzle, but I also laughed out loud - at work, no less - several times. Rowen writes great romantic comedy, but the subject matter definitely isn't all sunshine and roses. This is paranormal romance at its finest and the action is non-stop. Don't expect to have time to sleep or eat once you start this book, because I sure didn't. I sucked the story down so fast that October and Something Wicked seem VERY far away. A truly excellent start to what I know will be a fantastic series!

I was really surprised by Michelle Rowen's latest the Demon In Me. I enjoyed her Fanged and Fabulous series as a very light but forgettable read. The Demon in Me was a bit darker, edgier, and yes, still funny, read.

Eden Riley is a psychic that doesn't really believe in psychics (I know, right?) when she is paired with the delicious detective Ben aka golden boy to solve a murder. Fate doesn't seem to like Eden Riley much these days - she is attacked and almost killed by the serial killer hiding in the closet when sexy Detective GB (Golden Boy) rescues her. Only she becomes possessed, literally, by a demon that used to reside in the serial killer. Oh, and she only has a year to sort this hot mess out otherwise Mr. Tall Dark and Demonic will suck all her energy and kill her.

This book reminded me a bit of that yummy movie with Katherine Heigel and Gerard Butler, The Ugly Truth. Darrek has agreed to help Eden win over sexy Detective GB in exchange she a. doesn't exorcize him and b. helps him find the black witch that cursed him. Easy peasy right?

My favorite scene has to be when Eden and Detective GB are on their first date and when GB leans in to give Eden a kiss, she finds herself slapping him. Seems that Darrek has become 'possessive' and can control Eden's arms and legs.

If you are looking for a romance that doesn't necessarily have the normal HEA, sexy demons, and great humor, The Demon in Me is a great non traditional paranormal romance read.

I picked this up because I thought it sounded like a novel concept. How many times have the hero and heroine shared the same body? I wasn't disappointed.

Eden, a woman who's just a little bit psychic, ends up being possessed by a demon after his previous host is killed by police. She was on scene playing psychic detective, and she just happened to be the closest warm body available when the demon had to seek a new host.

Usually Darrak resides in humans, but has little control or contact with them, but Eden's psychic abilities allow him to communicate with Eden ... and more.

Quick read -- I read it in one sitting -- on the lighter side of my typical urban fantasy reads. And, yes, it's urban fantasy, not paranormal romance, despite what is printed on the spine of the book.

There isn't another author Michelle Rowen's writing style immediately reminds me of in the "if you like XXX" sense. Heather Webber, of "Lucy Valentine" fame, comes the closest in terms of how light/dark the tone is and the density of writing (level of descriptive detail + sophistication of writing).

Psychics, witches, and demons are the main otherworldly creatures we see, although there are also hints of shifters and fae. This is a closed universe.

Next time I splurge on books, the sequel will be on my to-buy list.

So, just a warning out there for those who care, this book has what I consider non-graphic sex, but then the second book escalates it quite a bit, which sucks because it means I can't finish the series, so if you're sensitive to that, now you know before going in.

Very funny and interesting read. I loved the plot and the characters are a lot of fun. I didn't like the very obvious and frustrating Ben development near the end. It was very obvious and I was yelling at Eden in my head as she did her part to create what he becomes. That was the only part I didn't like ( that and the fact she's a red head and the cover has her platinum blonde, that's random XD).

The world is worth delving into. I have so many questions, but in a good way!
-
I recently reread because I couldn't remember it and...I don't know why I liked it before, but the male lead felt VERY abusive and dismissive. I couldn't handle his gaslighting and the unhealthy dynamics of their relationship. I don't know what changed from the last time I read it.

fun.sexy.engaging. Those are just a few words I could use to descibe The Demon In Me. This is the first book in the Living In Eden series by Ms Rowen. Eden Riley becomes posessed by a demon who just happens to need her help in breaking a curse that keeps him in need of a human "host" body. Darrak is said demon and when in his "human' form is quite a looker which is making it very hard for Eden to have him exorcised from her so she can get on with her life. Darrak has told her he is a "good" demon and means her no harm, but others have told her different. What should she do? I was sad when Michelle's "Immortality Bites"series came to an end and now I am excited to see this new series from her. The night I picked up this book, I decided I would read a few chapters before bed. Well, before i knew it, I was half way through! My only regret about reading this book is that I didn't do it sooner! Can't wait for book #2 "Something Wicked"

LOVED this book. A 4.5 Stars. This is a new author find for me. I've since downloaded several of her books. Have loved every one of them. The Demon in Me is hot, sexy, incredibly witty and funny. Eden is a psychic working as a consultant for the police. As a result of the murder of his host, Darrack is a demon forced to possess Eden by night but has control over his body by day...just as long as he stays within 90 feet of Eden. Darrack is hilarious and he and Eden are a fabulous couple. Eden is intelligent, brave and sharp. The paranormal world explodes for her once Darrack comes along. This is a great series, fast paced, nonstop action, with wacky side characters... just a fun sexy read. They’re on a mission to find a way for Darrack to be able to exist outside of Eden's body. The sequel Something Wicked is just as good and leaves you wanting more. Anxiously waiting on That Old Black Magic in September.

Eden is mostly faking her psychic ability until an assignment for the police goes wrong, and she winds up with a sexy, but cursed archdemon inside her head. (and in her bed.)

Her mundane life is turned upside down when her newfound powers make her failing detective agency a hotspot for otherworldly creatured. Meanwhile, the Malleum, an organization that fights against demons, want to exorcise her demon companion with or without her consent. And Darrak is actively sabotaging her lovelife...

A fun story. Liked the dialogue between Darrak and Eden. As well as the little revelation concerning Eden's father... Next book, please.

Wow! I really loved this book! The ending, I have to admit, I did NOT see coming! Darrak and Eden make a fantastic couple dispite their problems. I have mixed feelings about Ben. I can't believe I have to wait until October for the next book!

3-1/2 stars for this one. It started out very reminiscent of Jenna Black's Morgan Kingsley series. However, I was pleasantly surprised with the second half of the book. The likable characters really drive the story.

I enjoyed The Demon in Me a lot. I really took to Eden and also to her demon Darrak. There were mentions of different types of 'others' in this book and I'm hoping we'll meet some more in the next book.
