The second book in Raintree series by Linda Winstead Jones was more than I had expected.
Everything seemed to be in its right place.
Well-written story, interesting plot, likable hero and heroine, and fast-paced and easy to read. But there was something missing from the story. I felt no sparks, no fireworks. I wanted to feel more charming chemistry between a hero and heroine.
So I ended up giving this book 4 out of 5 stars.

İlk kitaptan daha iyiydi ama ben bu seriyi sevemedim galiba. Kitabı başka zaman okusam belki severdim ama şu an olaylara pek adapte olamadım. Neyse çerezlik niyetine okunur. Bu seriden dolu dizgin bir aşk beklentiniz varsa avcunuzu yalarsınız demek istiyor ve yorumu bitiriyorum.

This was my first book by Linda Winstead Jones and my favorite story of the trilogy.
The story happens at the same time as book 1. Gideon is Dante little bro. Where Dante can master fire, Gideon masters electricity and as a side effect of that gift he can see and talk to ghosts. Which come handy when it comes to solve crimes.
Even though Gideon doesn't have the jerkish tendencies of Linda Howard's heroes, he's HOT and sneaky. Lorna is a strong and warm woman who isn't afraid to fight hard to defend what she believes in. They too were well matched. I loved their relationship. It was hot, sweet and funny.
There was also a great cast of secondary characters. My favorite being Emma. Her relationship with Gideon was absolutely cute and hilarious!
""I hate to tell you this, sweetheart, but in order to make a baby there has to be a mommy as well as a daddy. I'm not getting married and I'm not having kids, so you'll just have to choose someone else to be your daddy this time around."
Emma was not at all perturbed. "You're always so stubborn. I am coming to you, Daddy, I am. I'm coming to you in a moonbeam.""
Like for the first book, the story ends up quite abruptly but is picked up at the end of the third book.

İlk olarak Harlequin yayınlarına teşekkür ediyorum bizleri bu seriyle buluşturdukları için... Çok hoşuma gitti :) İlk kitapta ateşi yöneten Dante'yi burada da elektriği kontrol eden Gideon'u okuduk... Dante'nin hikayesi öyle bir yerde bitmişti ki bu ayı sabırsızlıkla bekledim ama gel gör ki Gideon'un ki de farklı olmadı... Asıl olaylar son kitaba kaldı anlaşılan... Dante ve Gideon kardeşler hazır sığınaktaki Mercy'e yardıma koşuyorlar... İki haftacık daha sabredip neler olduğunu okuyacağım :D Kitapta Emma ile olan karşılaşmalarını sevdim en çok :D Dante'nin sevgilisi Lorna tam bir çatlaktı bence ama Hope'u da çok sevdim.. Seri nasıl sona erecek merakla bekliyorum :)

Hikayeye gelirsek ilk kitabı bitirdiğimde ikinci kitapta savaş falan görmeyi bekliyordum ama öyle bir şey olmadı.Aynen Dante'nin başına gelen olaylar biraz farklı bir şekilde Gideon'un başına geldi :D Ve sonu da bizimkinin evini korumak için yola çıkmasıyla bitti.
Ama ne yalan söyleyeyim Gideon'un hikayesi daha eğlenceliydi.Şimdi yıldırımları,denizi,explode olan lightbulb'ları, Gideon'un parlamasını ve elektrikler çıkarmasını hayal edin
Üstelik bizimki cinayet dedektivi ve ruhlarla konuşa biliyor :D Bu yeteneği sayesinde de tüm işleri çözmüş.Ve Gideon'la 3 aydır konuşan Emma adında bir kızın ruhu var ve ona Daddy diye sesleniyor :D Son ziyaret edişinde de

Bayıldım harika bir macera idi.Bence ilk kitap Cehennemden her bakımdan daha iyi idi..Üzgünüm ama bu sefer Linda Howard gölgede kaldı Lİnda Winstead Jones'ın yanında..Hikayede hiç bir kopma kafa karışıklığı yoktu..İlk kitapda da yoktu ama sanki bu hikayede aşk,macera romantizm müthiş idi..Vee Dante'den Gideon karakterini daha çok beğendim..
İlk kitaptaki Lorna karakteri kadar Adalet'teki Hope karakteri de beni sinir etti zaman zaman..Fakat bu macerada kurgu karakterler çok daha iyi harmanlanmıştı. Gideon Raintree 'nin beceriside elektrik üzerine Dante'nin alevler üzerine olduğu gibi..Hope Lorna'nın aksine o şartlara göre normal sayılacak bir insandı. Onun öyle doğa dışı güçleri yoktu..O da Gideon gibi polis idi yeni Gideon'un çalışma arkadaşı olmuştu.Gideon'un en son istediği şey ise bir çalışma arkadaşı idi..ÇÜnkü cinayetleri soruştururken kurbanların ruhu ile konuşabiliyordu bunu da ortağının görmesine izin veremezdi..
Fakat gelişen olaylar Kendi klanın peşindeki amansız düşmanlarının tuzaklarına karşı koymak için Hope'ın yardımına da ihtiyaç duyabileceği ve ona karşı müthiş bir çekim duyabileceğini önceden farkedememişti..Doğa üstü güçlerine ve rüyalarına giren ve kızı olduğunu iddia eden Emma'ya rağmen..

This was barely an okay story. Dual Narration= the male narrator was good the female narrator was AWFUL (audible review)
Okay so the story was just okay nothing great. Could have been written better. I liked Gideon Raintree, he was sexy and had some electrical powers. Hope was just MEH. No character development at all with her character. The chemistry and romance seemed forced.
The story line and plot lacked a lot of elements, like why was this crazy lady trying to kill them? Don't know, I never will either since I won't be listening the to next book. It was somewhat a cliffhanger in a way. The story was written with a lot of unnecessary nonsense and was just kind of boring. No excitement at all. Just dull.
As for the narrator they were new to me. The male narrator Stephen Rudnicki did a good job. He has a very deep voice, but when he read the female voice he tried to make her sound like a woman and he had a very nice reading voice. The female narrator Theo McKell was terrible, when she was reading her portion she did not even try to change her voice for ANY character, it was just her reading voice. I will never listen to her again. Dreadful narration on her part. She's fired!
This was not written in the first person it was just a dual narration. Would have been better with only one narrator, the male narrator.

This was a great story. I loved the whole business/pleasure relationship with the hero/heroine. A great second installment in this trilogy.Loved it!

This is the second book in the "Raintree" trilogy, written by three different authors for Silhouette's 'Nocturne' line. Main characters were Gideon Raintree, from the gifted Raintree family, and his new partner, homicide detective Hope Malory.
Gideon has an amazing success rate for solving homicides. Unknown to the others on the force, it's because he can communicate with ghosts. He also has the power to harness and unleash lightning. The last thing Gideon wants is a new partner. Hope is used to having to work harder to prove herself in a male-dominated career. She is pleased to be partnered with Gideon, and she would like to learn from him. Hope hadn't counted on being thrust into the middle of an investigation into a serial killer. Gideon prefers to work alone, that way he doesn't have to try to cover for the fact that he's seemingly talking to himself when communicating with the ghosts of the victims. He does everything in his power to push Hope away, but Hope is nothing if not determined. Complicating matters for Gideon is the fact that he keeps seeing the spirit of a little girl in his dreams--a girl who calls him 'Daddy' and says she will be coming to him soon.
I detested the first book in this trilogy (Raintree: Inferno), but I'm glad I gave this one a chance. It was written by a different author, and I found it enjoyable. While Gideon is more domineering than I like, at least he wasn't a complete asshat like his brother. Hope was made of sterner stuff than the insipid twit in the first book, too. I really liked Emma, the spirit of their unborn daughter. In fact, I was quite enthralled with the concept of her appearing to Gideon before she was even conceived. Narrative shifted from Gideon's perspective to Hope's, and it occasionally was written from the perspective of Tabby, the killer. It was refreshing to read about a female villain. What did annoy me...
*Spoilers*
- In the first book, the male lead automatically believed that the female lead was one of the rival Ansara family of super-humans, but in this one, it never once crossed Gideon's dumbass mind that Tabby was Ansara.
- When Gideon was still hell-bent on "getting rid of" Hope, he sexually harassed her (Now she'll put in a for a transfer for sure!). Not only did this piss me off because he was a pig, but let's be honest. If Hope was dumpy or dowdy, he never would have done it, and he certainly wouldn't have done it if his new, unwanted partner was a man. Note to authors: this is not romantic! Good grief.
- Ended on a cliffhanger again. Guh.
The plot in this one was thrilling, creepy at times, and even gory at others. Characters were three-dimensional, including secondary ones. Giving this one four stars.

This book was rather unremarkable for a paranormal romance. The premise was kind of interesting; the hero can talk to dead people and is helping the heroine (a cop) solve a crime. They were okay together, but I seriously did not like the pregnancy plot line (which felt coercive) and the irritating ghostly child. The main leads seemed to lack chemistry and the book didn't strike a great balance with the crime/paranormal romance. The villains felt one-dimensional. There were a lot of good elements but it didn't hang together well. Maybe because it ended with plots unresolved that were probably addressed in the sequel. Perhaps it would have been better to combine the stories into one book.

Book two in the Raintree trilogy, Haunted is about Gideon Raintree and Hope Malory. Gideon is not only a homicide detective, he's a powerful member of the Raintree family with gifts that allow him to harness electricity and communicate with ghosts. Hope is his new partner.
An exciting story, as they team up to track down a serial killer. There are some elements that tie into the overall story arc, which is not resolved as we head into book three.

Gideon Raintree, a homicide detective, has the gift of controlling electricity and can see and communicate with ghosts. His partner recently retired and he doesn't really want another one because it is hard to disguise his gifts. When Hope Malory is assigned to be his partner, he tries to get her to ask for a transfer. Then when she sees his gifts manifested, she comes to believe and trust him. An attraction grows between them even as they are targeted by an Ansara assassin.

(Explícito). Estuvo bien, algo precipitado pero no se me hizo tedioso. Ni que los protagonistas avanzaran de golpe en su relación y en sus sentimientos. Prevé como si pareará mucho tiempo desde que se conocieron pero en sí, el libro narra los acontecimientos de una semana. Me gustó, recomendable. Lo volvería a leer. Narrado en terceras y te ofrece diferentes puntos de vista de varios personajes.

Raintree adalah sebuah klan dari sebuah keluarga yang mempunyai keahlian khusus. Buku kedua dari trilogy Raintree ini berkisah tentang Gideon Raintree, seorang polisi, atau tepatnya detektif polisi yang condong bekerja tanpa ada rasa keinginan untuk memiliki partner, karena merasa partner hanya mengganggu pekerjaannya saja. Keahlian khusus dari Gideon seperti judul dari buku ini ialah sebagai Pengendali Badai. Badai selalu berasosiasi dengan petir, sedangkan petir dengan listrik, ya, itulah keahlian Gideon. Ia bisa mengeluarkan arus listrik, sehingga peralatan-peralatan elektronik modern menjadi masalah khusus bagi dirinya. Tak ada jalan lain, telepon rumah dan televisi jadul masih bertengger di rumahnya, bahkan penggunaan telepon genggam pun hanya seperlunya saja. Bagaimana tidak, setiap kali sehabis menelepon, telepon genggam itu pasti rusak. Kembali ke masalah pekerjaan tadi. Alasan lain Gideon ogah memiliki partner ialah karena ia bisa berbicara dengan hantu. Arwah-arwah orang yang baru saja dibunuh dapat berbicara dengannya, sehingga tak sulit bagi dirinya untuk mencari siapakah pelaku pembunuhan yang dimaksud. Jelas bukan mengapa ia enggan memiliki partner? Sebenarnya, alasan lain ialah gara-gara Gideon tidak ingin dianggap aneh oleh partnernya gara-gara berbicara sendirian. Padahal ia berbicara dengan sesosok arwah, ya, si korban pembunuhan tersebut.
Kali ini, tejadi pembunuhan misterius di kediaman keponakannya, Echo Raintree. Pembunuhan yang terjadi sebenarnya salah sasaran. Tabby, si pembunuh merupakan anggota klan keluarga Ansara. Raintree dan Ansara merupakan musuh bebuyutan. Keluarga Ansara berniat untuk menghabisi seluruh keluarga Raintree. Tabby diutus untuk membunuh Echo, sialnya, pembunuhan ini salah sasaran, yang terbunuh malah teman satu grup band Echo yang mempunyai ciri-ciri mirip dengan Echo. Tabby yang semula tidak mengetahui misinya telah salah sasaran telah melakukan pembunuhan dengan sangat keji, apalagi di setiap pembunuhan yang Tabby lakukan, ia selalu mempunyai ciri khas, yaitu memotong salah satu bagian tubuh korbannya untuk dijadikan sebuah “oleh-oleh�. Maka Tabby pun melakukan pembunuhan kembali, sebagai umpan untuk memancing Gideon, yang kebetulan ditugaskan untuk menyelidiki kasus pembunuhan ini. Untuk informasi, setelah membunuh Echo, Tabby ditugaskan untuk menghabisi Gideon juga, ini bukan misi yang main-main.
Sementara itu, ketika sedang asyik berkutat dengan penyelidikan, Gideon kedatangan partner baru, kali ini partner barunya seorang wanita, detektif Hope Malory. Seorang detektif yang mempunyai ibu yang agak unik, karena percaya dengan hal-hal yang agak mistis dan supranatural. Gideon, yang keberatan mempunyai partner akhirnya termakan omongannya sendiri untuk tidak terlalu dekat dengan partnernya ini. Apalagi, sesungguhnya Gideon telah bersumpah untuk tidak ingin menikah dan memiliki anak. Kepolosan dan keberanian Malory dalam membantu Gideon walaupun agak disepelekan, telah membuka hati Gideon. Maka, mulailah mereka berdua menyelidiki kasus ini, dengan catatan, Gideon sedikit demi sedikit mulai membuka diri kepada Malory, dimana segala rahasia yang Gideon miliki, seperti berbicara dengan arwah, ia beberkan, sehingga akhirnya Malory tidak lagi merasa aneh dengan sikap Gideon, bahkan cenderung membantunya dalam membuka tabir pembunuhan yang terjadi yang dilakukan oleh Tabby.
Dengan setting sebuah kota di Amerika Serikat bernama Wilmington, yang dibatasi oleh laut, sungguh sangat berasa deburan ombak dan petir yang menyambar ketika Gideon sedang menyerap kekuatan badai di tepi pantai. Apalagi dengan kediaman Gideon yang berada di tepi pantai, sungguh sangat membuat penasaran bagaimana pemandangan laut yang dapat terlihat dengan jelas dari jendela kamar Gideon.
Perlu diketahui sebelumnya, bahwa buku ini bergenre Harlequin, jadi apa yang terjadi antara Gideon dengan Malory, mengapa akhirnya Gideon bisa kesengsem kepada Malory, bisa tertebak dimana kejadiannya berlangsung. Aneh juga sebenarnya membayangkan dua orang detektif terlibat cinta lokasi yang sedemikian hebatnya. Apalagi, walaupun seorang detektif, kesan bahwa Malory merupakan seseorang yang lemah seolah tercermin apabila mereka sedang berduaan. Sungguh sangat kontradiktif dengan profesi Malory yang seorang detektif, dimana seorang detektif harus merupakan seorang pemberani dan kuat dalam berbagai hal.
Adalagi keunikan lain dari buku ini. Ini adalah buku kedua dari trilogy seperti telah disebutkan di atas. Ketiga buku ini, walaupun sama-sama menceritakan tentang keluarga Raintree, namun ditulis oleh tiga orang yang berbeda. Sungguh sangat menarik membaca keterkaitan antara ketiga buku ini dengan tiga penulis yang berbeda, karena kebetulan saya telah membaca buku pertama dari trilogy ini. Namun seperti pula telah disebutkan di atas, buku ini merupakan genre harlequin, sehingga diutamakan dibaca oleh orang dewasa, karena dikhawatirkan, apabila belum dewasa, buku ini dapat menimbulkan mual kepada pembacanya. Terakhir, bintang 3 untuk buku ini, cerita yang cenderung detektif, genre kesukaan saya, namun terlalu dipaksakan dipadu dengan romansa yang terlalu dewasa membuat buku ini terkesan agak aneh, walaupun tetap seru untuk dibaca.

I love the relationship between Hope and Gideon. Probably more than any other couple in this series. And I hope to be as free spirited as Rainbow as I age.
