Book two in the Farmingdale Gentleman's Series:

A lot of things happen within the confines of a grey-ops organisation whose services are offered to the highest bidder. Sometimes even love, though that may well be easier said than done.

The last thing Simon is expecting when his latest Game goes thoroughly wrong is to be rescued by a man he doesn’t know and an oddly intelligent child, but that’s exactly what happens. He’s pulled from the proverbial fire by the strange duo. That would have been fine if he hadn’t developed some unexpected and unwelcome attraction to the man, Morgan.

Morgan’s been running for years, trying to keep his best friend, Rico’s, child from the clutches of what he’s sure is a group Rico wants no part of. Helping Simon is barely tolerable. Developing feelings for the secretive man is less so.

Between Simon’s organisation, the Farmingdale Gentleman’s Club, and whoever’s after Rico, Morgan’s pretty sure that he and Rico are screwed. When things come to a head, he has to make some hard choices, which might or might not involve Simon.

Reader Advisory: This book contains weapons, violence, medical experimentation and death. There is also a certain degree of moral flexibility in relation to a child who knows how to use guns.

5 stars minus one for extremely offensive sexism

I loved this book except for one thing which I'll go into below. It was well written, suspenseful, smart, funny, and interesting with a great plot, distinct characters, and lots of action and danger.

There was good word play, and clear voices. This was especially good considering one MC is American and the other British. Neither was described as such until the second half of the book, i think, but it was obvious from word choice and usage, and not just Britishisms. The book was well written, a HUGE improvement from the last book. I'm glad I stuck with the series.

One character was Very good.

I loved Simon's speech. I don't know if it was accurate or not, but it felt authentic. No, I won't tell you what it was--you have to read the book. ;)

It was great that they refused to have sex without protection. I also loved the unacknowledged reference to the original Ren & Stimpy: Happy happy joy joy!

My main problem with the book--really the only one--is a really big one for me and it was carried over from the first book, although it was even worse: the horrific way the one woman in power is described. They called her the ice queen and a twat. The latter is as repulsive and offensive to me as "cunt." They denigrated and called her names, even to her face. There wasn't even any grudging respect until the very end. I cannot imagine if "he" was replaced by "she" when referring to this character, that much of this would be said at all. They didn't insult anyone else like this, not even the bad guys--wait, they did the female bad person.

They didn't like her policies or choices, fine. With a guy, such as her father who they also disliked, they should say, "What an asshole," and then move on. But every single time they referred to her, they used a derogatory word. It just went on and on and on, way past the point where I got what they were trying to say. And she wasn't even that bad until one section and they eventually went along with what she decided! She even did a couple of nice things for them! I know it was supposed to be funny, but it wasn't; it was just offensive.

On top of that, the super evil villain was also female and the mother in the beginning was stupid and annoying.

Because of how extreme the sexism was, I'm docking a whole point. Yes, it was that bad.

Made it up to 42%, but that's enough.

Chapter Seven and again it starts with telling me how much time since the last snippet. In the beginning I liked it quite a lot, only the gaps and time leaps were getting on my nerves more and more. Yes, I'm not a fan of paranormal, but at first the kid was nice, but then her knowing of stuff got aggravating and the whole storyline suffered from sudden breaks and telling in hindsight what happened in between.
So, although overall the storyline was interesting enough to get me reading on, the way it was told left my head reeling.

Very good m/m romantic suspense about a guy who's been on the run for a long time, protecting his dead best friend's child, who has special abilities. Along the way, they rescue a member of the Farmingdale Gentleman's Club... but will coming to the Club's attention help them, or further endanger them?

This seems to be a nice book, but I learned that I won't like the sequel. Ugh, not my cup of tea.

The book had an interesting and good start, but somewhere the story turned slow and uninteresting. Not a satisfying ending.
