Okay, I made it about half way. But I can't read any more. I have no idea what happened with the time jump between Nazi Germany and modern day US... it just sort of happened. And I HATE the US Vice President character. I can't read it anymore. There are too many other good books on my list to read rather than spending my time finishing this!

not good. Way too much detail of the jewish atrocities for background. everything that happened was obvious. not an original thought in the entire book. I am going to give my copy to someone I don't like.

Well it was another race against time and all the baddies got knocked off and the man on the white charger won the lovely lady . However what about a decent ending too many stories left unattended.

The Maya' s - An ancient civilization that was capable of accurate predictions based on astrological planetary movements. A civilization which foresaw the end of world on 21-Dec-2012 and took steps to protect and hide the ominous prediction and its resolution until the time was right.

The Maya Codex - the legendary codex written by the Maya to help prevent the destruction of world. The catch - it's hidden and can be found only when the time is right.

The Maya created 3 figurines to protect the path to the codex. The 3 figures had to be placed at the exact place on the dawn of 21-Dec-2012 solstice to reveal the path to the Codex. The figurines themselves were hidden deep in the Guatemalan jungles to protect them from falling into unsafe hands.

It is on this premise that "The Maya Codex" is based on. The hunt for the codex spans over 70 years, starting from Nazi Germany and ending in the jungles of Guantemala. Levi Weizman - an archeologist famous for his work on the Maya is engaged by Hienrich Himmler to find the connection between the Maya and the Aryan Master race. Weizman is Jew and not trusted by the Nazi's.

Meanwhile Weizman is using the expedition as cover to do his own research into the Maya Codex and find to find the figurines that lead to it. The third player in this story is the Vatican, the Church led by Cardinal Felici don't want the Maya Codex found and shown to the world as they fear that it may contain something that destabilizes the Church.

To get their hands on the Codex the Church forms an unofficial alliance with the Nazis. The Church's influence is managed through the Americans who also have their own interest in the Codex.

As Levi Weizman and his family get caught up in the holocaust, he manages to hide 2 of the figurines found by him and hide the clues that point to the third figurine and the codex.

Fast forward to the present, the search for the Codex continues and so does the quest to control it. Caught in this power struggle is Curtis O' Connor who is sent to assasinate Dr. Aleta Weizman Levi's granddaughter who is following his footsteps to discover the Maya Codex. As Connor joins Aleta in her quest, he also becomes a target to be eliminated.

As the date of destruction draws near, Connor and Weizman are caught in a race to find the Maya Codex before time runs out and all hell in unleashed.

The book continues in the same vein as the previous d' Hage books. The underlying theme of the book remains the same as that of the other two: "There is more than one way to Omega".

Verdict: Read it.

First and foremost I need to state that I was listening to the audio version of this book, in my car during holiday time. I find holidays not a good to for concentrating of listening as it is more important to concentrate on drivers who feel it is imperative to speed past in order to gain a twenty metre advantage on the road. In other words my opinion may be skewed slightly.

The first chapters of The Maya Codex (Curtis O'Connor #2) by Adrian d'Hagé are set during World War II in a Nazi concentration camp in Europe. The story, in my opinion, had potential to be interesting as it followed the fate of one family and how some of children managed to escape. However, that is where the interesting part ended. From there on there seemed to be different scenarios each time I tried to listen to the story.

I do know that time had passed by twenty plus years and the child who did escape was now looking for his tormentor, I think. The Vatican Bank was involved; the South American jungle got a look in, as well as numerous other locations.

By track 35 of 65 I was contemplating throwing in the towel, something I detest doing when reading. However, by track 45 of 65, I had had enough.

I think I have tried to read, or listen to offerings from this author in the past with little success. I will probably avoid books by this author in future. This appears to be a love it or hate book as other Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ reviewers have rated it between one and five stars.

I have mentioned this in the past but will re-iterate here. The narrator of an audio book either makes or breaks it, in my opinion, and in this case did nothing to help enjoyment of what was is probably a good read.

I simply loved the travels of archaeologist Dr Aleta Weizman and CIA agent Curtis O'Connor. This book kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time I was listening to this book. I couldn't put it down.

The mystery, intrigue and conspiracy theories abound in Adrian d'Hage storyline.

I also love a book that peaks my curiosity and encourages me to check some of the facts. Before reading this book I was not aware of Hugo Boss' connection to the Nazi party, the impact of the 36 year Guatemalan civil war nor any external involvement, the 1954 Catle Bravo bomb experiment or the connection of the Golden Mean (phi) and Fibonacci number sequences to many different religions.

The characters of Aleta and Curtis take us on a trail of archaeological travels to locate the Maya Codex before 21 December 2012. There is no end to the story plots that d'Hage has managed to skilfully weave into this story, conspiracies by the Catholic church and governments around the world, the changes over time of the Catholic church and its celibacy doctrine for their priesthood, climate change, the human impact on earth, worldwide intolerance for different religions, research into the possible use of weather warfare, paedophilia and the uncanny mathematical ability of the ancient Mayans.

The story ending leaves you wondering about your own intolerances and how you make a difference (positive or negative) in the world and the legacy you will leave on this earth.

A recommended read, especially for those readers out there who love the thrill of the chase and some intellectual stimulation.....

I didn't particularly enjoy this book as the story didn't make much sense. I can accept all the tomb raiding action but there are characters and events that just didn't make sense, such as the DDO at the CIA. He was just totally wrong and felt out of place.

One thing that really annoys me about novels when done badly is the time line. You never know if the the event that is happening is a day after the previous chapter or a week or month. Events need to flow in a reasonable time line and this is where this book failed. People seemed to move around very quickly without fitting into a neat time line. This book could have done with a good edit and most of it cut away. It seemed to be written as an epic family tale but failed because it was disjointed and just didn't make logical sense in so many places.

Confusing.

A work of fiction that will divide its readers down the middle. Maybe if you're one of the many blinkered in your religious beliefs this book might not be for you. But if you have an open mind, read on. Nazi Germany, the Vatican, Catholic priests, Washington, and the Mayans are all woven into this wonderful tale. Each to their own, but my beliefs entirely match that of the writer. We live in societies that force us to live with our heads in the sand. This book attempts to show us what could very well happen to us, as a civilisation, in our immediate future, if we allow our leaders to push us like lemmings over the edge of the cliff.

CIA agent Curtis O'Connor is tasked with eliminating Dr Aleta Weizman, a Guatemalan archaeologist - but is suspicious of the motives behind the orders, and becomes her protector instead, defying his bosses and enraging others in the process.

Why does Washington and Rome want to stop her from finding the artifacts that will reveal the warnings written by the Mayans in ancient times? What will it reveal about the alignment of the planets in the upcoming solstice? Will they find out in time?

This is a fast-paced adventure, and I enjoyed the read.

I only got half way through this book, i liked the idea of it - but found it hard to follow as i think you have to have an extensive knowledge of the history to understand, me - not knowing much about the germans, their language OR the vatican, i found it hard. BUT - if you did, I think it would be an awesome read!

I'm sure we have all heard of the Mayan prophecies about 2012 and the surposed end of the world in December next year (that said, something is meant to happen today as well...). This is a bit of an Indiana Jones/James Bond adventure into the search for the Mayan Codex that is meant to go into more detail about what is going to happen 21/12/2012. Fun read, start of a trilogy.

It spent a little too much time setting up for the adventure and some of the background nazi stuff was a little more detailed than necessary but otherwise enjoyable. It also may be OK that they built up so much because there are two more books in the series.

Could have been so much better. The book did not leave me wanting to read the previous one, nor make me curious enough to think of picking up the sequel.

So far this is my absolute favorite of this series. I loved how d'Hage spent alot of time on the WWII part of the story and went into detail with the Nazi element. To me, it was fascinating.
