Quick Summary
FBI agent Trevor Rivette has tracked a serial killer to New Orleans, his own hometown he left years ago. He's confronting not only the tragic deaths of the killer's victims but the ghosts of his wrecked past. Rain Sommers, the sultry host of a late night radio show, crosses his path when it appears she's a potential target of the killer. They're soon investigating each other as their mutual attraction is impossible to ignore.

The heart of the story
What makes this story pretty interesting is the uncovering of both Trevor and Rain's past while sifting through the clues to try to identify the who and the why about this case. The New Orleans setting would normally be enough to add more mysteriousness but the underground Goth world seems to be at the center of the serial killer's focus. It added a creep factor to heighten the tension. Trevor's very complicated and his relationship with his family even more. Of course, his "secret" romance with Rain was completely inappropriate given she's part of the investigation but, hey, who cared?

The bottom line
I got wrapped up in this story as it's a page turner. In terms of suspense, it doesn't really chart new territory but it's written and paced very well. There are lots of interesting characters and discovering Trevor's history was equally intriguing. I'm not sure if the next book in the series is connected but I'm ready to find out.

Midnight Caller is an intense, dark romantic suspense thriller that explores the underworld of New Orleans and its fascination with vampire lore. While this is not a paranormal vampire romance story, it does explore in-depth how far society will go with this cultural fascination. And with all the mystery shrouding New Orleans about vampires, even the good guys are not always convinced that they aren’t real. It was a great read, with tight plotting and a realistic pacing that kept me guessing through much of the book.

Rain Sommers, a semi-famous radio psychologist who speaks to troubled youths late at night, finds herself needing the help of Trevor Rivette, an FBI agent who has been investigating a string of bizarre murders around the country. The latest murder brings Trevor to New Orleans, a town he grew up in but gladly left long ago because of an abusive father. He is only in town until the investigation is over, but after meeting Rain and realizing she is central to the murders, plus reconnecting with the family he left behind, nothing is as simple as he first hoped.

While this was a great dark suspense thriller, fans looking for a lot of romance and steam may be a little disappointed -- but I hope that doesn’t stop true romance suspense fans from giving this one a read. The romance storyline is small and shadowed by the mystery and other story lines, but it does heat up in a couple of places and provides a deeply emotional happily-ever-after ending for the couple. Rain and Trevor made a believable couple, and the romance elements flowed perfectly in the story.

I should also mention that this is a debut book, which is impressive! There were many characters and complex story lines running through this book, and the author did a great job to make sure we readers never got bogged down with confusing details. I have no doubt that we will see many more great books by this author, as she has really found her niche.

Typical romantic suspense, nothing special or different, too much stupidity, some things not answered.

REVIEWER’S OPINION:
Readers who love romantic suspense (RS) may like this, but it was too ordinary for me - things that have been said and done before. There was no “wow or surprise. There is a long, drawn out investigation with various clues, different things happening, and a major crisis/conflict at the end. It’s a complicated plot with some parts that needed to be tied in better. There are two sex scenes. When I read them I thought “nice sex scenes. The book could have used more of that and something more interesting between the main characters. This is her debut book.

WHAT I DID NOT LIKE:

There is a mystery about the age and physical condition of the killer. Author does not answer it which bothered me. It felt unfinished. I wanted to know more about how blood and other things affected the killer’s body. It was a perfect subject for creativity, but the author didn’t go into it.

“Someone helped the killer get victims. The story about “someone was never explained. I wanted to know why, what, and how “someone did what they did.

The killer knows Trevor is the FBI agent working the case. Why does the killer leave personal messages for Trevor after each murder? The answer that came to me was “that’s what they all do - per many of the RS books I’ve read. I would have liked some reasons for this one.

It dragged a bit in the beginning.

In the final conflict scene, the killer’s shooting and stabbing actions did not make sense to me.

TOO MUCH STUPIDITY:

Rain does stupid things.
Trevor asked Rain to list the people who knew the password to her home security system. She told him everyone except one. There was no reason to withhold that name. Her thinking was that she didn’t think that person was involved.

Rain is the target of a serial killer. Police are staying with her 24 hours a day to protect her. She wants to talk with Trevor’s brother about Trevor’s past, so she sneaks out of the house to go visit him? Trevor had just told her to take the policeman with her if she wanted to go anywhere.

Trevor does stupid things.
He is supposed to be guarding Rain. He leaves five minutes before the next policeman arrives. She is unprotected for those few minutes. Of course something bad happens.

Rain is kidnapped and the killer tells Trevor to come alone. Trevor does not follow procedure. He is an FBI agent! He goes alone and is harmed as soon as he arrives. If he had brought a sniper to hide nearby in the trees, the sniper could easily have taken out the killer. Trevor went alone because he feared his fellow officers couldn’t use stealth or keep their presence a secret? I doubt that.

STORY BRIEF:
A serial killer slices women in multiple places. They bleed to death. This happens in various states, with the most recent in New Orleans. Trevor is the FBI agent working the case. He comes to New Orleans to investigate. More killings happen in the area causing him to stay. Trevor grew up in New Orleans with an abusive father. Trevor moved away years ago. Now that he is back, Trevor is revisiting memories and interacting with his siblings and father (a secondary story).

Rain is a psychologist with a radio talk show. She is popular with young people in the Goth community. The killer calls and talks to her on-air during the show.

DATA:
Story length: 402 pages. Swearing language: strong, including religious swear words. Sexual language: mild. Number of sex scenes: 2. Total number of sex scene pages: 4. Setting: mostly New Orleans, Louisiana. Copyright: 2011. Genre: romantic suspense.

FBI Agent Trevor Rivette has returned to his hometown of New Orleans, fast on the trail of a serial killer. Dante (AKA: The Vampire) has left a string of victims across the country. Trevor discovers that Dante is calling into a midnight talk show hosted by Psychologist Rain Sommers. Dante seems to be obsessed with Rain and may be targeting her as his next victim. Trevor plans to use that situation to his advantage.

Trevor had a lot of backstory that came to life when he returned home. I found him appealing and liked his relationship with his brother and sister. Rain was a bit too TSTL for me. Twice she slipped her protection detail to go out on her own. Doesn't she remember that there is a serial killer just waiting for a chance to take her out?

This is the first book in the Chasing Evil series. I believe this book was the author's debut novel. The setting in New Orleans seems to automatically give the story a dark, moody atmosphere. The fact that many of the victims are from the Goth community gives it an extra creepy factor. My rating: 3.5 Stars.

I found this book because of the "GR Recommendation" -- yes, apparently, that one still has positive side for me. I never heard about this author, but saw some positive reviews and decided to take the plunge to the unknown. My last 'good' romantic suspense was back in July 2012, more than a year ago, and I seriously needed to find a good one.

And I did think this one was good. In the beginning, it was rather slow. I was also a bit bored and annoyed with a detailed description of what the heroine was doing. But the story picked up its pace and I found myself enjoying it.

What I loved the most about this was how both the hero (Trevor) and heroine (Rain) had baggage. FBI Agent Trevor Rivette, came from a family with abusive cop-father. He was seriously injured when he was a teenager, trying to protect his sister. Trevor's sister tried to kill herself, his youngest brother used to be an addict, and Trevor had detached himself from his siblings for quite awhile. Meanwhile, Dr. Rain Sommers also had a violent family history. Her own father killed her mother before killing himself.

Because of this, the romance was rather ... uhm, subdued? Low-key? There was attraction but at the same time, it didn't offer chapters by chapters of the characters thinking about the other one's appeal. Trevor still had to deal with his siblings, who missed his presence, while struggling to overcome his feeling of being back home. Rain struggled with his selfish ex-lover and 'celebrity' status that came from her mother being worshiped by goth community. It was interesting to see these two came together after the serial killer -- whom FBI named as the Vampire -- seemed to take personal interest to Rain, after the history of her mother.

I was rather surprised though, that the identity of the killer was revealed rather early -- it was around 70% in my Kindle. Usually, to keep the suspense, we didn't get the revelation near the end. And it was just written there, the name of the killer, I mean. We didn't discovered it alongside Trevor. For me, it sort of taken out the element of surprise and that contributed to my taken the stars rating down from 4-stars (that and the rather slow beginning).

The last 30% was dealing with the killer getting all psychopath on Rain and Trevor, which was okay for the sake of action and drama.

I guess now I had to check the second book in the trilogy. Although the blurb didn't contain any characters that made appearance here. So maybe it wasn't all too connected. But still, I will check it out.

This was a pretty heavy and dark book and didn't make for an easy reading & I normally avoid these kind of books but this one was well written. The hero had a horrific childhood filled with unspeakable cruelties done at the hand of his cop father and now he's an FBI agent and a case has brought him back to his hometown. He hasn't dealt with the past and somehow his relationship with his siblings is awkward.

The heroine is a therapist who does a radio show and she too has a chequered past courtesy of her famous parents & their murder-suicide. The book had plenty of violence and dark themes like vampirism, child abuse etc

As far as the romance is concerned, it isn't that overt since the book is more about the suspense.

I liked the book but now I need something lighter to remove the after-taste.

An enjoyable read! Rain and Trevor have good chemistry and tragic pasts. There was a pretty constant high danger factor, and the writing had good flow for me. Trevor was a very tragic hero...I guess I would have preferred that he didn't get his ass kicked...constantly. At least it gave Rain the opportunity to come through in the end and save the day...Heading on to the next in the trilogy.

This book loses two whole stars because the main character (Rain) should have died every other chapter. I'm not sure I've ever read about a stupider woman in my life. She was constantly disregarding all aspects of her safety and the wishes of those that would protect her. It was beyond ridiculous.

And yes, I'm going to tell you all about it. I'll put it behind spoiler tags, just in case.

The only thing that made me like her was that she didn't ever attempt a "I'm leaving you because I love you and this is what I think is best for you" - she always accepted her feelings as a positive thing and didn't give up on her man. That does not negate the utter and total stupidity she showed throughout the rest of the book, though.

The hero was a good hero - dark back story, dry sense of humor, possessive protectiveness, etc. He was a fairly generic hero, though. You've read him a dozen times.

The bad guy was a really good bad guy... I mean, he was fucked up, man. His story is over, but there were a lot of unanswered questions about him that really needed to be addressed. I feel like the author was trying to leave us with a little bit of mystery, but it didn't work out that way and instead the story feels an epilogue short.

The story of the stalker going after the daughter of his obsession and all that... good stuff. But the stupid heroine really drew away from that. Repeatedly. Every time she did something stupid or said something so terribly clueless and naive, I was pulled out of the story with disbelief and annoyance.

I would not recommend this. If you're interested in the author and/or series, I'd suggest the third book in this series - "Edge of Midnight"...

Midnight Caller
4 Stars

Late-night radio psychologist, Rain Sommers, has a new fan - a sadistic serial killer who exsanguinates his victims and calls himself Dante. Targeting young women in the Goth community, Dante aka "The Vampire" is also obsessed with Rain’s mother, an iconic singer murdered long ago. Enter FBI Agent, Trevor Rivette, a man with a traumatic past that still haunts him to this day. Will Trevor and Rain be able to stop the deranged killer before he gets to them first?

The New Orleans setting and Gothic overtones lend an intensely creepy and gripping atmosphere to the story. While not the most original, the blood-obsessed serial killer plot is absorbing and the subplot revolving around Rain’s mother is reminiscent of one of my favorite Nora Roberts books - .

The suspect pool is limited, which makes it relatively easy to figure out the culprit’s identity, but the climax is exciting. Nevertheless, the ending is needlessly drawn out and several points are left unexplained, such as

In terms of the romance, Rain and Trevor's relationship is not all that convincing, and it appears that she is more invested in the relationship than he.

Rain is initially characterized as an intelligent and resilient heroine. However, she has several TSTL moments that undermine this portrayal and she lacks a certain amount of perceptiveness that one would expect from a psychologist. Moreover, her relationship with her ex-boyfriend does not present her in the best light as she fails to stand up to his passive-aggressive manipulations.

Trevor is a likable hero and the details of his family history only make him more intriguing. That said, his behavior is not always consistent with that of a trained FBI agent and he often comes across as a beta-hero.

In sum, Midnight Caller leans more toward the suspense than the romance, but it is still a good story with some excellent characterization and I will be continuing with the series.

Review: “Midnight Caller cries out to be read in one sitting, without sleep, for the reader will be captivated and turning pages as quickly as possible. Rife with action, emotion, romance, stalking, control freaks, art, psychology, childhood abuse survivors, murders old and new, vampirism play and Goth settings; the French Quarters and environs of New Orleans, this romantic suspense has something for practically every reader to devour.

FBI Special Ageny Trevor Rivette, in the Violent Crimes Unit, has been tracking one particular elusive and apparently nearly invisible serial killer through several states. Not only is the modus operandi identical, but the killer taunts Rivette with notes signed “D. Now he has killed in New Orleans, Trevor’s home town and one to which he never wished to return, due to the horrific childhood suffered by himself, his sister Annabelle, and his brother Brian. He’s scarcely arrived to investigate the fresh murder when he happens to overhead a caller on a late-night psychology talk program on New Orleans radio, “Midnight Confessions, hosted by one Rain Sommers, Ph.D. in psychology-and orphaned daughter of the infamous torch singer Desiree Sommers, murdered by her husband when Rain was only two. The caller labels himself as “Dante, and by his taunts to Rain, and his discussion of “bloodplay, Trevor believes this man may well be the serial killer he seeks.

Meanwhile, Rain’s producer, a control freak and narcissistic philanderer, perceives giant ratings from “Dante, and urges Rain to take his calls every night, if it so occurs. He doesn’t care that Rain is freaking out; and he certainly doesn’t want to hear that she plans to cancel the program when her contract expires in three months. No, David plans nationwide syndication, with himself at the helm, and claims he will take whatever steps are necessary to ensure just that. Nor does he care that “Dante has a stern and murderous eye trained on Rain.

Readers, run out and grab this multi-layered, totally suspenseful, and exciting mystery, and revel in the reading.

This was a really good romantic suspense read for a NTM author. What I found refreshing about this book was that we open with our hero's POV. Devon is an FBI agent chasing a serial killer across the US. He ends up back in his hometown of New Orleans. But he has a hard time as his childhood was a nightmare of abuse that is coming back to haunt him. In his investigation, he ends up meeting Rain Sommers, a late night radio host and children's psychologist. As it turns out our killer has a little thing for Rain that is somehow linked to her mother, who was killed almost 30 years ago. The killer wants to celebrate the memorial of her death with cake or maybe even a death or two. Nothing says I love you like spilling blood.

Trevor and Rain made a good couple. There were a couple of TSTL moments for Rain, but to advance the story line, I expected it. This was a good read and I am eager to read the next in the series. The agent in the next book had off screen conversations with Trevor on the phone. My only beef is I wish Rain's boss and Trevor's dad would have met with a terrible accident where they got thrown in a lion's cage with a side a beef attached to them, but that is just me.

Midnight Caller (Leslie Tentler)
Suspense/thriller/romance.
Rain Sommers is a radio psychologist by night, and councils teens and children by day. She is somewhat of a celebrity in the French Quarter , New Orleans. Her mother Desiree , the late singing icon in this Gothic area was murdered at the hands of her father when he then killed himself.

Trevor Rivette is an FBI agent also from New Orleans, somewhat estranged from his family and hiding from a troubled past. He is called back to his childhood hometown to investigate a gruesome and bizarre murder. In the French Quarter where Vampire legends and lore are common seems this murderer has a blood-lust sadistic ritual about his killings.

Rain gets pulled into this investigation when she is the recipient of on-air calls from a seedy character who is obsessed with her deceased mother. Trevor believes that the caller and murderer are connected and he is concerned for her safety.

Fast paced page turned. Filled with twist and turns, a bit of romance.
Intense up until the last page. Highly recommended to those who likke suspense/thriller/romance.

The first book in the Chasing Evil Trilogy by Leslie Tentler. Slightly heavier on the suspense but still a satisfying romance in my opinion. I always love a story with a gorgeous FBI agent hero. The heroine was a strong likable woman herself but both had a few minor issues in life that they managed to overcome.

Not terrible, not terrific.
The audio narrator was pretty good too considering she had a bunch of different voices going on.
The storyline had a good, steady flow to it too with enough action and events around some minor character development - though the spicy moments between Rain and Trevor felt a bit like they’d been written by AI 😅 nevertheless, I’ll give the second book in the trilogy a go.

3.3 stars! ⭐️ (spoiler review)

This story had a strong backbone, but there were just times when the flow felt off. Perhaps it’s because it is the author’s first published novel, because her other books have a stronger flow! (I’m not even sure ‘flow is the perfect word, but there was an element here that felt disjointed sometimes).

BUTTT gosh, the setting gets 5 stars! I’ve not seen a contemporary novel that sets atmosphere like this. Typically for books in a gothic setting, we’d have to be around castles and stuff. But right there in the modern city of New Orleans, she was able to draw out gothic elements that transported me to the dark, weird world of goths. Huge props for that.

There were strong twists I didn’t see coming at the end! Like the death of two people: Oliver and Tibbs—Omg TIBBS death caught me completely by surprise!! It was sad! I also did not at all expect the Carteris house would get burned down when the truth came to light, and in such an explosive manner. Carteris was an evil genius. The twist of who the culprit was wasn’t entirely shocking for me because I literally just started suspecting everyone that came on the page, so I could say ‘I knew it! in the end 😂. But to be fair, I didn’t see signs early that it was Cateris. Oliver though was very easily a suspect! In fact it was SO glaring he was complicit, that I thought he had to be a *false culprit*. I think the smart thing here was that I thought it was one, or the other, or none. I hadn’t guessed it would be both father and son in on the carnage!

I love that the author didn’t tie a neat knot on the question of whether blood-drinking and the claim of being a vampire truly gives one longer lifespan than mortals. (Yikes this sounds rather dark, huh?) She didn’t refute completely that Carteris had retained his youth by drinking blood, and she also didn’t give complete technical explanations to explain his lack of aging. It’s also frustratingly genius that his house burned down with all the proofs that could’ve given us a clear answer to this. BIG 5 stars here too and I applaud the careful thinking!

I loved the sibling relationship here with Brian and Annabelle. This author is really good at exploring deeper relationships even in her mystery/thrillers. It’s never just surface level issues. They are specific and unusual conflicts, and make the characters feel like real people. I also appreciate that in the end, Trevor was ready to START healing mentally, and not that he was magically sound after a few weeks in New Orleans.

I did feel some annoying decisions were made. Like Annabelle not listening when Trevor insisted she got a restraining order against their father, and then crying when their father took her daughter. Or all the times Rain didn’t pay heed to his warnings, and then regretted it. Trevor seemed to be the only person with a solid head on his shoulders. But these could be easily overlooked.

What their father did to them in the past was horrible; but I don’t think he was portrayed rightly in the present. The author stuck to a stereotype deadbeat father—drunk, sloppy, sleazy, etc. But based on what he did to his family, he was a cruel and crafty person, and I think it’d have held more weight to keep him in that light, physically and mentally, even in the present. The sloppy drunk man didn’t match with the cunning policeman from their childhood.

The relationship was definitely a 3/5 stars for me. As usual with the author, there’s potential and a solid base for great chemistry. But again, all the focus is on the grim with stilted conversations, hence there’s no light moment that could show good rapport. In that case, it can make it seem like the MCs are just trauma-bonding. Rain and Trevor had some snippets of nice banter that showed great potential, but those moments were super brief. Also, the issue with no dialogue tags can mean you won’t even know they are joking together until after the moment has passed. I liked their relationship okay, but I didn’t swoon much over it because the potential wasn’t fully tapped.

Rain’s character suffered from passiveness. I was tired of people treating her house like it was a motel and she was a guest rather than the owner. The policemen were ALWAYS in her *kitchen*, and I wondered if she didn’t worry about someone putting poison in her food or robbing her. She was always too casual about someone being in her kitchen or having the passcode to break into her house. Once, she heard noise downstairs and literally cracked open her bedroom door to PEEK outside, in HER OWN HOUSE. Passive. Her psychology practice was the real joke. She didn’t have one single successful client she’d helped. Her passiveness really played in here. She kept letting Oliver do as he wanted break into her house, steal her things, mess with her deliveries without actually sitting him down to get into his mind and help him. She also took over-frequent work leaves and returned to seeing patients randomly; how’s that kind of unreliability accepted for a psychologist? And for someone supposed to treat other people’s mental baggage, she had SO many unaddressed. It’s like she didn’t really believe in what she did for a living, so she never sought counseling for her own issues. It made her career just a tag to help her character seem different, but was clearly not something the author knew much about.

Trevor was a strong character. Very three dimensional. His trauma was handled very well! Especially in the end when his fear of ventilators came back into play, it touched my heart!

McGrath and Tibbs were added likely as comic reliefs, and they did awesomely with the wry humor. But these men were also detectives, and I didn’t see one tangible thing they did to prove that in the case. All they did was bicker and banter over Trevor’s shoulder. Even when RAIN got kidnapped, all McGrath basically say was ‘hey I’m going back to the station to chill, call if you need anything. Like man, you should be up and turning over the city to find her partner’s girlfriend! LOL.

Lastly, I didn’t understand Rain’s relationship with her mother. Her mother was into some real dark and kinky stuff. How did Rain feel about discovering these? How did it change her view of her mother? These were never explored. Rain learned her mother was a gold digger, that she took racy photos with religious relics, and there was no reaction in her thoughts to them. I mean, even admiration at her mother’s daring, would’ve been good and made her feel more actively in the situation.

All in all, it was a bit hard to get into the story at first, and I considered skipping it. But I’m glad I pushed on. It was a decent, enjoyable read!

This is the first book in the Chasing Evil Trilogy by Leslie Tentler.

Wow! I was on the edge of my seat the entire time reading this. I am so glad I picked this out of my Kindle library. I have the other two books in this series as well and plan to read those soon also. I chose this book for two reasons. One, the Reading Rush Readathon had a prompt to read a book with a house on the cover. Two, I have my own wheel of TBR prompts over at WheelDecide and it asked me to pick a book with a purple cover. This fit both of those prompts perfectly. Oh, and I just thought of a third reason I wanted to read this. It reminded me of the old Midnight Caller television show with Gary Cole that always intrigued me.

Basic premise: Rain Sommers is a late night radio show psychologist whose parents were murdered when she was a kid. Now a caller named Dante has vampiristic tendencies and wants Rain for his next snack. Plus, he seems fixated on the death of Rain’s mother who was quite a celebrity back in the day. FBI Agent Trevor Rivette has come to New Orleans to find a serial killer. And he is listening one night to Rain’s radio show when Dante reveals his tendencies to her. Now he is certain that the serial killer and Dante are one in the same and now his focus is on Rain.

I loved the setting in this and I was in awe at how the author built her characters with so much backstory. You could feel all the pain as Trevor returned to his hometown. He knew he was missing the joy of family but it was also his relationship with his father that kept him away for so long. Hard to face those ghosts of the past.

Rain was hiding in her own way. She had built a comfortable life out of the public eye but that didn’t keep a mad man from finding her and wanting to make her his.

Loved this so much. Can’t wait for book two. I wish there were stories for some of these minor characters because I would certainly read a full book about any of them, especially the siblings of Trevor.

If you love a good romantic suspense, definitely check this one out. You won’t be disappointed.

Included in audible plus....the narration killed this one for me. The accents and the use of a single narrator for all the voices, was not a great plan with such a good story.
That being said, I loved the storyline, the convoluted twists and turns and characters. It was a very well developed story in my opinion. Just read it, don't listen to it.

Wow. This book isn't as all what I thought it would be. From the summary of the story, I expected an urban fantasy. Instead, I got a mystery/thriller. It was pretty good, just nothing like I expected.

Trevor is an FBI agent with a traumatic childhood. He has tracked a serial killer back to his hometown of New Orleans. Once home, he not only works to find the killer, dubbed the Vampire, but also to reconcile with the brother and sister he's been away from for so long. The hunt for the Vampire turns into a game of cat-and-mouse, as the killer targets Trevor with carefully laid clues and taunts.

The Vampire also has a marked interest in Rain, a psychologist and radio talk show host. He targets her on the air, making sick sexual references and talking about her mother, a long dead rock singer. The Vampire's calls put Rain on Trevor's radar and the two grow close, quickly.

All at once, we see Trevor & Rain come together, as the mysteries of Trevor's past unfold; the tragic history of Rain's mom comes to life; and twisted machinations of the Vampire come to a head. I liked the romance. The love scenes were pretty good. And I never suspected who the Vampire was before it was revealed. My only nitpick was the whole supernatural thing. Is the Vampire really supposed to be a real vampire or a deranged sicko? The doubt was especially annoying to me since I thought this was supposed to be a paranormal off the bat. I never got a satisfying resolution, even as the book came to an end. Overall, a pretty good romantic suspense. 4 stars.

This romantic suspense novel is the debut book from new author Leslie Tentler. Late night talk show hose Rain Summers is the daughter of a murdered singer from New Orleans who is credited with being goth before goth was a trend. Special Agent Trevor Rivette is a native of New Orleans who left in his team and has spent the ensuing years trying to forget his childhood. Now he is back and dealing with a case that involves Rain, but may also be personal. As the case progresses, he finds that trying to protect Rain and identify his unsub may be more than he can handle on many levels.

Although I have read many romantic suspense novels throughout the years, it is not the genre that I read the most. In fact, I think most of the books that I have read in this genre were probably written by Nora Roberts. This one had an interesting plot line that kept me involved. In addition, the characters of Rain and Trevor were quite interesting, and their personal stories were enticing. I really enjoyed the mystery story line and although I figured out who the killer was before it was revealed, there were enough possible suspects to keep me guessing through a lot of the book. Unfortunately, the romance story line was a bit predictable, and the very end of the book fell a little flat for me.

All in all a good read from a new author, which I enjoyed enough to look forward to her next effort.

Trevor har aldrig kunnat glömma sitt förflutna.
Slagen, fosterhemmen,a lkolism, dödandet och drogerna.

This was a good book. But I like a lot more excitement than just "good" when I'm reading a suspense. Dr Rain Sommers was a therapist with a late night radio talk show whose normal clientele were teenagers and young adults. But she started getting threatening calls from an older male identifying himself as "Dante." Enter the hot FBI Agent Trevor who has been on Dante's trail for a while. The story takes the readers into the world of "Goth" and also delves into both Rain and Trevor's troubled pasts. It was fun being able to figure out early on who the real Dante was, and it kept me entertained enough to finish it. But I constantly had the feeling that I had read this book before and it was because I've read so many books like it, there were no real standout moments that made it different.

Leslie Tentler's masterfully crafted a romantic thriller with the perfect amount of edge of your seat pacing. A hunky alpha male FBI agent with a troubled past. A beautiful and smart psychologist hunted by an evil killer. What more could you want? I loved the characters and plot, but what really stood out for me was the setting. Leslie draws you into New Orleans with rich details that make you want to run out to buy chicory coffee and beignets. As she leads you around the city hunting a vampiric serial killer, you're inundated with the sultry flavor that is New Orleans. Smart, sexy and just a little scary, Midnight Caller is a wonderful thriller. I can't wait to start the next book in her series, Midnight Fear.

Midnight Caller is an excellent book. I really enjoyed the story that the author drew the reader into. Trevor and Rain are enjoyable characters that you really care about. I love how the author tells the reader a little at a time about the characters' past. The reader cannot wait to get to the end to know about the past stories as well as who the killer is. Who is the killer? You have to read to find out. Great start for Leslie Tentler. I cannot wait to read her new book when it comes out and more of her books in the future.
