I just read this to Julianna.she gives it a only 1 star. Did not like it. I thought it was super cute illustrations & silly story. But Julianna did not like one of the characters not being nice although at end of story all worked out.

SUMMARY: Splat is eager for night to come because tonight he gets to camp outside. But his Mother invites Plank and Spike, which are not friends of Splat's. Its going to be a long night.
The story wasn't good or bad, but I could see a kid really liking Splat and his pet mouse Seymour (which goes everywhere that Splat goes). Splat does shows enough patience to get him through the night of uncertainty and ends up with two friends.
Based on the Splat the Cat character created by Rob Scotton; but this story was written by someone else.
I like the illustrations of Splat the Cat, especially the wildly crooked tail that quivers at times when he is worried or excited; however, sometimes the over done smiles are a little on the scary side. I thought it was unusual that all the other cats in the story had clothes, except for Splat who only wore a hat. The last illustration was the best with the three friends piled high in their sleeping bags.
An I Can Read Book -- Level 1 -- Defined as Beginning Reader (short sentences, familiar words, and simple concepts for children eager to read on their own) It seemed the story was written in words that a beginning reader would be able to read on their own.
I read this title in a hardbound copy of five (5) stories in this sentence; however, THE ADVENTURES OF SPLAT THE CAT was not listed in the Good Reads database; so I have reviewed them individually.
The two main characters in this story are Splat, the protagonist, and Spike, the antagonist. In the beginning, Splat complains to his mom that he does not want to hang out with Spike. In the first half of the book, Spike annoys Splat. He does this by eating all of his fish cakes, and ripping Plank’s sleeping bag. The climax of this story is after Seymour climbs up Spike’s pants when Spike decides to stay with Splat and Plank rather than running home. It was interesting to read on the first page that, “He was getting ready to camp under the moonlight. This quote foreshadows what would happen at the end: Splat and his friends will sleep under the moonlight without a camping tent.

This is a good book for early readers. I liked the main character, Splat, and the illustrations but didn't care for the story line. I have read other Splat the Cat books and didn't feel the same as I do about this one. After being surprised with a forced campout with a peer, Spike, he didn't care for and the events unfold, suddenly Splat likes Spike after he gets scared? There could've been more added to the story, but I have to remember that it is a short ear reader.
(3 Got something out of, but wouldn’t read again) It was a good read. I personally don't like how the mom invites others over to camp out with Splat without asking him. And when he tells his mom that he doesn't like them, she seems to write him off. She doesn't ask why or seem concerned with his feelings, she just tells him that he'd like them if they spent more time together. I wasn't a fan of that part.

Splat the Cat is a fun series of books for early and advanced readers. My son enjoyed this book and it challenged him to sound out more words and practice new words. The story was funny and he enjoyed that as well.
This early reader teaches words ending in -ight. The 13 words in the -ight sound family found in this book are listed on the inside front cover.
Although it is designated as a Level 1 beginning reader, this book is longer and wordier with more complex sentence structures than most Level 1 beginning readers.
Didn't like it! We've read a few other picture books, some of which we liked quite a bit, such as and . This is however the second Splat the Cat early reader to come our way, and just like with the previous one, I'm not impressed. Worse though, my son didn't care for it at all either. Halfway through it he put it down to go to bed, and neither the day after nor any day thereafter could he be talked into finishing it. He didn't even want me to read the rest to him. Oh, well, we have other Early Readers to choose from ...
This is another book in the series of books that were originally created by . I don't want to cry "Sell-out" here, but the books that have been published lately as "based on the creation of Rob Scotton" seem to lack the charm of the original stories. Overall, it's just an okay tale about camping out with friends that will likely appeal to young children. It has an unsatisfying resolution to a bullying situation, with the bully suddenly becoming a friend with little reason for the change of heart.
This Splat the Cat beginner reader is a cute story about camping under the stars in the backyard. Splat and Plank are completely enjoying camping and the nighttime, but they are being bullied by Spike. Splat has trouble going to sleep and is mocked by Spike. But, then something happens that scares Spike. In the end, the friends vow to protect each other. Kids will enjoy the illustrations and the joy of being on your own under the night sky. The sentences are simple with only a few more difficult words thrown in.
Splat the Cat is having his first camping experience out in his backyard. He was really excited to go camping until he opened the tent to find Spike and Plank. Splat does not like Spike, but his mother told him to spend sometime with him and maybe they could be friends. It is cute, funny, and a pretty good read. Reommend for early readers, K throught 2nd grade. Published 2011.
Easy reader story about camping overnight in his backyard with Plank and Spike. Splate doesn't like Spike and is afraid of him. But before the night is through, they come to be friends.
Five year old grandson is a Splat fan. This one is not at the top of his list, but we did read the whole thing.
This was an easy read but I felt there were some things that my son didn't quite get such as what the characters were feeling. Example, he didn't catch on that Spike wasn't being very nice. He didn't understand why Splat said he doesn't like Spike. To him it was just a book about three friends camping and having silly things happen to them.
Splat is having a sleep over and it's outside in a tent! His mother has invited a friend he doesn't like very much, but she encourages him to spent time with him and he'll grow to like him... the adventures are fun and sometimes not so nice but the each find they can be friends and enjoy their time.
This is a "Beginning Reading 1" with "simple sentences for eager new readers." Each page has several sentences on it so if your child is a new reader who gets tired easily, this might be a little more advanced.
Granddaughter staying here and time for some new books. She had wanted to read this and by her reaction it didn't disappoint. So much fun seeing her reaction. She also was choosing her next Splat choice.
A first grade level story of a young cat on a campout and the prelims that he encounters. My grand niece read it too me with little difficulty asking for help with only a few words. There are nice drawings throughout.
Funny and cute. A perfect way to study French and have some laughs. Thanks very much to Rob, R.M. Vassallo, Harper Collins,Nathan and the people who made this possible. I enjoyed this book a lot and learned a little more French.
