Even though Tricia pens lesbian romances for a living, she hasn’t been out with a woman in forever. Her best friend sends her on a blind date in a bookstore, but the woman she meets in the LGBT section isn’t who Tricia thinks she is. What will happen when the wrong date turns out to be just right?
Jae is the author of twenty-six award-winning romances between women. She lives in the sunniest city of Germany, near the French and Swiss borders. The writing bug bit her at the age of eleven.
She used to work as a psychologist but gave up her day job in 2013 to become a full-time writer and a part-time editor. As far as she’s concerned, it’s the best job in the world.
When she’s not writing, she is an avid reader of sapphic books, indulges her ice cream and office supply addictions, and watches way too many crime shows.
Trish - "um I don't know if you remember me. My name's Trish Hoffman. I'm a local author." Mr Ashby - "Oh yeah I remember. My wife loves your books." His wife read sapphic fiction?! She stared at him.
Like there is only hetero and homo. I wish they'd expanded on this but the whole story is only a few pages, so...
This is probably the best short story that Jae has written. As far as I can tell it’s an original work and not connected to any other novel. This was delightful! This is probably one of my favorite meet-cutes ever? My only complaint is that this isn’t a full-length novel (Jae, get on it!). This was simply a lot of fun.
Available in a few places, compilation, and on its own, I think. You can find it in the compilations Love At First Write and Happily Ever After.
This was the most fun and sweet blind date quick read I’ve read. I loved the layers of the characters and the near brechtian fun the author had with making the main character a romance novelist. A cute cat, a blind date, and an author reading and that’s just the icing on this sapphic romance heart squeeze. Perfect read when you need a warm hug.
This was cute. Tricia is set up on a blind date with a friend of a friend by her friend Chi Lo. And, it's even in her favorite place, the bookshop, The Booklover's Lair. And, she's really excited when she and Jennifer really hit it off. Then came a quite delightful twist that had me laughing quite a lot. A perfect little short story.
This is a fun short story, a bit cringeworthy because I felt embarrassed for the characters, but far too short how I wish we knew more about them. This is more like the beginning to a full length novel than a short story.
4 stars. This was such a light and fluffy little novella. I really liked it. Jae always delivers and by the end I was wishing it was a full length novel because both Tricia and Jen were adorable. I wanted to see where their blooming relationship was going to go next but as it is this was a quick and fun read. Loved it.
This is a very cute short story of Tricia, a romance author and Jen, a psychotherapist, who accidentally meet in a bookstore. Both had been set up for a blind date by their good friends. Ironically, they were each stood up, but they mistook each other for that person. Frankly, the mistake worked out better for them both. It's very cute!
I am a big fan of Jae, and i would read anything she wrote. This short and sweet romance is just perfect! Her clever plot changes only add unexpected fun! I love this endearing story, with relatable and adorable MCs and the fun and funny exchanges between the besties. I would read it again and again without losing interest!
Cute, sweet, and enjoyable short story of an authors blind date at a book store. Can't say much else without spoiling it all, but definitely worth the read.
Such a cute, sweet little sapphic romance! Even in such a short story the characters come through with their quirks and foibles, I look forward to reading more by Jae.
A romance novelist’s best friend sets her up on a blind date, and a case of mistaken identity leads to real connection. I would have liked more internal conflict, but it’s a sweet story with a surprising twist.
