Then again, how often does an assassin live long enough to enjoy her retirement? In this line of work, you either get lucky or you get dead. And since I destroyed my nemesis Mab Monroe a few weeks ago, all of Ashland's lowlifes are gunning to make a name for themselves by taking out the lethal Spider--me, Gin Blanco. So I'm leaving behind my beloved barbecue joint and heading south with my baby sister, Bria, to cool my heels in a swanky beach town. Call it a weekend of fun in the sun. But when a powerful vampire with deadly elemental magic threatens an old friend of Bria's, it looks like I'll have to dig my silverstone knives out of my suitcase after all. Complicating matters further is the reappearance of Detective Donovan Caine, my old lover. But Donovan is the least of my problems. Because this time, the danger is hot on my trail, and not even my elemental Ice and Stone magic may be enough to save me from getting buried in the sand--permanently.

POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD
I was a little wary about this book because Spider’s Revenge was so fantastic I just couldn’t see how the author could top that. BUT once again Jennifer Estep surprised me. I really enjoyed this book. The action was not as riveting as the previous book, which was expected, however in this book we had a lot of Bria and Gin moments, which has been a long time coming.
I have liked Gin’s little sister so far in this series, however there were many moments where I wanted to slap her. In a way she viewed Gin the same way as the jerk Detective Donovan Cain. They see themselves as superior to Gin, thinking her evil because she is an assassin and them pure as snow because they try to uphold the law. In this instalment Bria was forced to see herself through the way Donovan treats Gin. Yes you heard right, Asshole Caine made an appearance again. And although I never wanted to see this jerk again, I was VERY happy with how things turned out in this book. Gin got some closure and by the end she started to stand up for herself against those who judge her, Donovan got a much needed punch, and what a beautiful moment that was :-D. And Bria got her eyes opened.
I must say the villain in this book was very evil, and it was very interesting to learn more about how vampires become more powerful when they drink elementals blood. And it was a lot of fun to see Gin fighting without her powers. She is definitely not a kickass assassin just because of her elemental powers :-D
“You’re mine, Owen said in a fierce whisper, the heat in his eyes as bright as the scorching sun. “Not his. Mine. Only mine. Always mine.
I also loved the sweet moments between Owen and Gin. He’s such an understanding guy, and I just love him.
This was a much needed and great addition to a very kickass series that I’ve come to love.
The giant didn’t even get a chance to untangle himself from the tree before I palmed another knife and started in on him. He was half turned toward me, so I couldn’t slam my blades into his heart and put him down immediately the way I wanted to, but I cut up the right side of his thick, muscular chest like I was butterflying a slab of meat. The giant screamed and staggered back, but I kept right on going with him, opening his stomach from one side to the other, blood and intestines spilling across the white marble floor. The giant screamed again, his feet going out from under him, and slumped to the floor. I drove my knife into his throat, cutting off his hoarse cries of pain, before yanking it back out. He toppled over and joined the valet on the floor, both of them dead.
Trent stared at me, his eyes flicking around the room as if he was considering whether he wanted to fight or run. He should have run.
