Character deserved a drop kick in the groin. From Willow being some kind of obnoxious fairy god mother to Lela, the raving psycho bitch. And the heroine; the worst character of all. I HATED her. She NEVER accepted Jack for who he was until she became like just like him. It bothered me so much that I waned to rate this book lower but this book deserves 5 stars so I'm conflicted. She basically poisons him to see if it makes him not turn into a 'monster,' which is what she so called him when she found out his secret. I like my heroines with a little more empathy and understanding, thank you very much.
Safety gang (view spoiler)[ This book is basically 99% safe. Just a few instances of OW/OM drama. I say its 99% safe because when Darcy transforms into a werewolf she doesn't remember Jack at all and decides she wants to fall in love with her 'mentor' Tombeur. This really pissed me off to no end. The last 15% of the book I want the couple to resolve all the problems in their relationship- not make new ones. The fact that Darcy thought she was in love with Tombeur for the last 10% made me so sick to my stomach I almost cried. I felt cheated and disgusted- especially when Tombeur started to respond sexually to Darcy's advances when he already had promised himself to Jacks mother. Obviously, the heroine remembers everything eventually and loves Jack again, which is fine, but two things: 1. If the main couple doesn't get together until the last page of the book, you better have a fan-fucking-tastic epilogue and this book did not have it. 2. This book had huge amounts of cheating in it (not with the main couple) but with all of the secondary characters, so it makes me not believe their HEA. I could totally see Darcy wake up one day and not be in love with Jack anymore, which is her loss because she's a royal bitch and Jack is in my all time favorite Heros list. So because of that last disgusting part where Darcy is begging (actually gets on her knees) to Tombeur to be her mate instead of Jack I will not be placing this on my all time favorite list. Not to sound pretentious, but your book doesn't get to make it on my highest, most esteemed shelf if I had a raging urge to spit in the heroines face for 80% of the book. Let me first say this book was never going to work for me because i hated the writing style- the author uses extra adjectives to try and make her writing sound smarter but it just makes it sound idiotic in my humble opinion.
The rest of this review has MANY SPOILERS SO READ AT YOUR OWN RISK I thought this book was going to be about a couple who solved their issues like The Divorce but this was VERY far from that. We first see our main couple all happy and cuddly at a party at a club they co-own with each other. The night completely goes to shit when one of their closest friends gets attacked and raped in a storage closet at the club. Our couple completely derails from there.
So why am I mad? Because the couple IMMEDIATELY blames themselves... ad nauseum. I instantly hated the heroine because to me she made herself a martyr for her friend that was attacked. She tells everyone how it was all her fault and asks "how can she ever forgive me when I'm the reason she got raped!!!!" Why did she blame herself? Because she left a fucking door open. So OF COURSE its her fault. Can you please keep the attention off yourself for five freaking minutes and think about the well-being of your friend? So after this the H and h have an argument about who feels more guilty and who should have the most amount of blame. SHUT THE FUCK UP!!! This just pissed me off so bad. THEN both of them watch the surveillance footage of the rape of their friend!! LIKE WHAT THE FUCK?!?!?! So of course this causes their relationship to crumble because they're both trying to out guilt each other. Like, no. I don't want to read a book where the entire relationship struggle is about their friends rape. I don't know if it was the dialogue or the content but this book just really rubbed me the wrong way. To an average reader, this book will be fine. But I've read over 1,000 books and this shit doesn't fly with me anymore. I'm cynical and I'm cranky after reading it and i don't understand why there are so many 5 star reviews.
This book was bad. So many things were wrong with it but the main two were; 1.) Extremely convoluted storyline + too many characters to keep track of. 2.) The romance aspect and the "you have to fight for him" plot line.
The tagline of this book should have been "Revenge: Where Everyone Knows a Hacker." The story was so convoluted it left me with a 'what the fuck' feeling and not in a good way. In one word: it was dumb. The author doesn't know how to write a series where each book, the stakes get higher. The reader has to read pages and pages and PAGES of utter non sense and the characters rehashing everything that just happened over and over again.
The romance was absolutely terrible; it was only 40% of the book. I was getting excited for an excellent grovel by the hero and it never happened- not even close. The author couldn't come up with anything original so OF COURSE she makes the hero a martyr and pushes the heroine away so she can "be safe" and OF COURSE he does it in a really hurtful way........ and then the heroine has to chase after him...again.
I freaking lost it. Because all of the female characters in the book told her she was being stupid for not chasing after him again and again and again. After everything the hero said and did, there needed to be a HUGEEEEE grovel. An earth shattering grovel. A grovel to end all grovels. But none was there.
And the hero never apologizes for all of the hurtful things he said because theres too much fucking 'action' in the book and it gets in the way of them hashing out a conversation.
The couple gets back together in the last 3 pages on the book with zero epilogue.
Don't waste your time on this book. Complete waste of space on my eReader. Some might read my review and think, "Whats the big deal? That doesn't seam to bad." But it is. I have trouble accuratly describing my emotions during my readings. It's too complex. I felt a little sick to my stomach while I was reading it. So hopefully my goodreads friends who are in the same boat as me will understand. ...more
