"The Dragon King's Bride" starts with our MMC raiding the castle of the FMC's family (she's the daughter of a prostitute and her "mother" is actually her step-mom who abuses her). He brutally kills a bunch of no-names and his skin is of a darker color than the rest of them, his people are simple called "barbarians" by her family.
He then marries the very white (literally) FMC who behaves like an abused child, doesn't know that she's pretty and hasn't been treated well for one second of her life. He immediately kisses her against her wishes and says that she must bear his child to be a real queen and then we learn that child bearing usually (!) ends in the death of the dragon wife.
And this wife here is extra fragile because of her past.
So.

Generally I'd recommend this if you are just thirsty for some drama and art that looks good, but keep in mind that it will be the annoying kind of drama, like a character not telling another something for bs reasons or an evil lady being evil because she can.
And uncomfortably icky as the main evil lady is the guy's sister in law, and he'll always talk about her and his brother's relationship because he admired him so much.
The MMC is "a nice guy", but disappears for weaks without telling her and despite being king he does nothing against the evil women in the castle she's forced to live in. Not to mention that he's dumb as bricks because he doesn't wonder why a mother would give up her child that easily... obviously something has to be wrong there.
I liked that she immediately has an ally in her servant Titi and that there's some mystery about her magical abilities and a forest sprite she befriends. And the dragons.

I dunno it wasn't the worst webtoon, really, it just left me in some kind of "huh so that was that" mood.]]> 3.92

- great magic system, people can only use a specific kind of magic if they tap a magic card and it will always have a price (a beauty card will turn the user's heart cold, a wealth card will make them greedy, etc.). I loved this so much, really a breath of fresh air in the romantasy genre
- The Nightmare and Ione are great characters and I can't wait to see what they'll do in the sequel
- the secondary characters in general are pretty interesting and I wished they were used more, especially the head doctor
- many villains that are pretty black-and-white but they work because you hate them and want to see them get their comeuppance.
- Elsbeth isn't an annoying FMC
- Gothic atmosphere, magic smells like salt and the forest and it's deadly mist is creeping closer

The bad:
- Elsbeth always talk about her sisters as "half-sisters" and when she describes them there's so much hate, while they... just behave like two twins that were treated well.
She doesn't talk to them unless they speak to her first, apparently never comes to their birthday, generally doesn't think too highly of them and there isn't any good reason besides "children of her step-mom".
- The step-mom is a good villain but her story isn't really seen through, I kinda wanted more and I don't expect this happens in the sequel (will correct this if that's the case)
- Loooots of repetition. On the one hand we have the nightmare who always talks in rhymes - which is great! On the other every single chapter begins with the text of a card that we already know and that gets repeated again... and again ("magic always has its price" We get it!!). While the book is written well in general, it will repeat the same words for the same things, like "his oily voice" or the way in which the nightmare moves in her mind. Would have been great if there was some variance there, came close to the annoyance of "she stuck her chin out" in Fourth Wing.
- some scenes will repeat as well, like her constantly running away for 50% of the book
- Elsbeth and Ravyn are somehow less developed then the side characters Elm and Ione.
- Because of this, their romance falls flat and I would really not read this just for the romance. Did a double take when the sex scene happened because it really didn't feel earned.
- I know everyone loves Elm but I thought he behaved strangely at times, it seemed like he hates Elsbeth more than his horrible brother at some point with how much time he spent picking on her, despite her actions towards him

I'll read the second book because of the great ending and the Nightmare and Ione, but I think this could have used some trimming and some more relationship scenes for the romance to work]]> 4.22 2022

Who would have guessed, the book actually has multiple pantheons!
So first of all, it's a romantasy book so you know what you are in for.
Imo this is already much better than Fourth Wing because:
1. The dangerous trials make sense (they want to crown the king of all gods, unlike the military in FW which... seems to be interested in just murdering their cadets for the lolz)
and 2. She isn't horny 24/7
Even the modern slurs are ok, as this takes place in our world with smartphones and the internet.

Who would have guessed, the book actually has multiple pantheons!
So first of all, it's a romantasy book so you know what you are in for.
Imo this is already much better than Fourth Wing because:
1. The dangerous trials make sense (they want to crown the king of all gods, unlike the military in FW which... seems to be interested in just murdering their cadets for the lolz)
and 2. She isn't horny 24/7
Even the modern slurs are ok, as this takes place in our world with smartphones and the internet.
