this book is definitely not for the weak. at first it was hard to digest due to the language of history in military and political usage, but i eventually got the hang of it. however, nothing can prepare me (and i believe, no one can be prepared, at all) for the sickness in my stomach that i would feel while reading certain parts of it. i knew it was a heavy book, but you never know how brutal and uneasy it is. although there were some humor (very little)in it, it made me mad, upset, angry, sick. sometimes it was so overwhelming that i had to pause because my eyes would tear up with misery. it¡¯s insane to think that some parts of this story was divulged from actual history itself and how true and gruesome the world can be. i give props to r.f. kuang for writing this, it must have not been easy at all.

so this was a good book. it definitely got me outta my reading slump. was very glad that it wasn¡¯t like every summer after (the cheating part). i loved will baxter. he knew how to cook, how to babysit, it was just *chef kiss*. beautiful. what i would give to have a man like that. but it broke me how he struggled trying to maintain a life for his sister and her daughter and himself. it saddens me that he gave up his dream, for his family. which makes him the least selfish person that he is. my only down part of this book is how rushed the ending felt and how fern¡¯s mom had a shorten relationship with peter. that is something i would¡¯ve loved to know more about. but overall, this is a good book for carley¡¯s second book release!!!
