I think this was a good book if you can get past some hurdles. The book starts off really slow, it seems by design, and only really picks up 3/4 of the way through. The characters were okay, somewhat messy but relatable. The plot was okay but it felt like Silvia compensated deeper connections of the plot to the character for extraneous details about the film industry in Mexico. While I could have done without the rom-com relationship, I appreciated the supernatural elements enough. Overall, Silvia does tie up the loose ends nicely in the end without subtle hints of a sequel (entertainment is too full of unnecessary sequels).

During the Second World War, scores of American generals were relieved of command simply for not being good enough. Today, as one American colonel said bitterly during the Iraq War, “As matters stand now, a private who loses a rifle suffers far greater consequences than a general who loses a war.� In The Generals we meet great leaders and suspect ones, generals who rose to the occasion and those who failed themselves and their soldiers.
