I really wish i could say i enjoyed this book., i really wanted to enjoy this book. Unfortunately for a book that has less than 300 pages, it actually started to drag for me. It certainty isnt one of the worst books ive ever read but it just felt so lackluster and one dimensional. The premise is so interesting and has so much potential but the pacing issues and insta-love with no chemistry was too obvious to overlook. I'd probably describe my experience as disappointing more than anything, which is such a shame because again, there were so many opportunities for this to be such an interesting story.

What started off as a somewhat confusing alternative story, soon turned into a dark and almost troubling plot which had the potential of being great but in my opinion feel flat. With this reimagined look at Aurora, the fairies and Prince Philip you had the opportunity of seeing more into their characters than that in the original film however, I do feel that while strides were taken in getting to know these characters it wasn't properly realised and they still felt kinda one dimensional.

One thing I did not like was the blatant refusal of this book to recognise that Aurora had a serious mental illness and that even when she was being confronted with the possibility of this the author did nothing to suggest Aurora was coming to terms with it. There was no sign that the author understand the implications of implying this of Aurora and at the end of the book it was completely written off to make way for the happy ending.

What I did like however was the overall character arc of Aurora. While many of the other side characters had a small arc or little character development, Liz Braswell did try to show an in depth look at Aurora and her journey from princess to queen and all the new characteristics and responsibilities that come with that, even if she disregarded some of her previous writing.

Overall, I was not blown away with this book and despite my excitement going into it I have not finished it with the same level of excitement as would be expected. Gurrrrrrlll when i tell you I am GAGGED. The book as a whole was kinda average for me but the ENDING. I needed to write a review just to get it out the system. I'm usually pretty good at guessing a twist and i was at peace with the fact that one of the two mans was gonna end up not working but having a double bluff. I AM FLABBERGASTED. Overall Brie is fine, Sebastian is fine, Finn is fine (ignoring the obvious). Like the motivations are all solid and i dont dislike anything about this book but other than the ending nothing about this screamed out to me. It was an easy read and the plot was well thought out so yeah average read but i admit it. You got me screaming at the end there. Kudos to you Lexi Ryan.

This was such a cute book that had so many lovable characters and messages to portray. I adore both our main characters and connect deeply with their love of fandoms and imperfections. First off I'd like to start by saying I don't love this book, only like it. I do however find all the characters very endearing and the amount of spunk Blue has is something I enjoy highly. I'd also like to mention how likable each of the main characters are in how imperfect they appear and how this in turn makes you root not only in their success but they're friendships and in them. This is a brilliant starter book and paves the way for the growth in character development and the fascinating plot I expect will unravel. There are a lot of questions I still have and Maggie is great at keeping you guessing while still allowing you to play detective yourself.

Overall I can't wait to see what the next book holds and in re-reading The Raven Boys I have gained a new fondness for the book series and the potential it holds.

Personally I couldn't get into the book, which isn't to say it wasn't filled with great characters and a gripping plotline but for me, I found it difficult to find the motivation to finish it. If you're looking for some troubled and angst-esc ships this is the book for you, it left me surprised as the twists unfolded and i couldn't help but congratulate the characters, specifically Kaz, on some of his endeavours. The book did feel a little slow around the middle but the ending only left me wanting more and getting to know these characters was an honour that I won't soon forget. Highly recommend for people wanting to read something new and that keeps you guessing.

I don't know how to describe my feelings towards this book, only that I am an emotional mess filled with too many to count. Sarah does an absolute brilliant job at presenting characters that are so imperfect and relatable that you can't help but root and love every single one of them. She tackles difficult topics that I feel can be inspirational for those dealing with similar things. I know personally I connected to some of her characters on a level i never thought possible and that people can find themselves in any one of the array of personalities portrayed throughout this book. It is filled with political intrigue and well defined character arcs. We are introduced to characters of new and old that manage to capture your heart and make you really question not only the constructs of not just this world but of our own. There are some mature scenes that some may not deem necessary or cringeworthy but personally I think it only adds to the realism of this book. The plot is perfectly paced and I never felt a chapter not required in the overriding scheme of the plot. The only flaw I would have to note is the flurry of questions still left open but I can only leave that down to how invested I am in our characters and the world Sarah has created.

I have cried and laughed and can't wait to see what else Sarah has to offer us with all the new faces we have discovered and the troubles they still have yet to overcome.

Feel it necessary to give an explanation about why this book has the rating that it does. Firstly, its definitely a product of its time, however, some of the language usage was inappropriate and I would have not approved of it back then and even more so do not now. The overall story is kinda cliché, very chosen one trope but dialed up to an eleven and the main character is for a better word, cringe. Its very obvious at the start of the book that this is an author going out of her way to try and sound like a 16year old and not doing a good job of it. That and the fact that Zoey (our main character) is probably one of the most judgmental people I have ever read about makes the whole reading experience eye roll worthy. It is very conservative, which again might be a by-product of when it was written but the stance on intimacy, drinking, smoking and general stance on how women talk about each other is not flattering. I will say, despite all this negativity, it was a quick read and I think if these problems weren't so glaring it could have been an average early 2000 YA paranormal read. Unfortunately It cannot be redeemed in this day and age.
